This is a great little book of salsas and sauces for taco night and beyond. The pictures are mouthwatering and I can see using some of these outside of Mexican food dinners. My only quibble is the inclusion of bullion in some recipes.
I love spicy so this was right up my alley! Very interesting recipes not your every day run of the mill, grocery store salsa or mole. The authors wrote out the recipes in detailed, easy to follow ways.
Anyone who prepares a lot of Mexican food at home will want to pick up an excellent cookbook, Spicy Salsas & Moles: A Cookbook for Lovers of Mexican Heat by Ericka Sanchez and Nicole Presley. Even though it’s a small, short book, it’s filled with all of the sauces and salsas we need to make our Mexican dishes over the top. This cookbook includes several kinds of basic salsas, as well as moles that can be used in dishes or used to garnish or accompany good Mexican food.
The recipes are written in the traditional manner with the ingredients listed first, followed by step-by-step instructions that are easy to follow and suitable for everyone – beginning cooks and advanced cooks. The recipes call for easy-to-find ingredients, mostly available at regular mainstream grocery stores. Each recipe is accompanied by a beautiful, professional photograph which showcases these must-make accompaniments to any Mexican food. The authors also include information on what the particular sauces should be served with.
There are plenty of tips and hints included, insuring great success. The recipes are very appealing, and will make readers want to make them all. Grilled pineapple salsa is incredibly good and I made it to go with some pork tacos. I also loved the Pueblo Style Mole, a traditional mole containing Mexican chocolate; it has a long list of ingredients but the final result is very worth it. The pico de gallo is also excellent.
All told, this is an excellent cookbook and a good addition to a recipe collection.
Special thanks to NetGalley for supplying a review copy of this book.

I would recommend!
Mexican food is so much more than tacos and nachos. Ingredients are always fresh and nutrient dense. Flavoured with salsas and moles makes every meal a new culinary adventure. Looking forward to working through this great book. Thank you for the preview,
I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. I liked how simple this cookbook was and found a few recipes I am excited to try.
I love salsas, so this book was exactly what I wanted to read. The recipes are easy for the most part. I tried out a couple and can't wait to try out more.
Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for the ARC of this delicious cookbook.
Who doesn't love a selection of Mexican dips with go with their tortillas chips right? I tend to stick to the same old dips and rarely make my own, so I was ready to challenge myself with Spicy Salsas and Moles, and boy did the book rise to challenge. It's got all your favourite salsas covered but I also really enjoyed the more unusual recipes too - Cactus Salsa, Dog's Nose Salsa and Strawberry Serrano Salsa, to name a few. I cannot wait to try the peanut mole and the idea of a tablecloth staining mole makes me smile. The recipes are easy to follow and accompanied by mouthwatering, vibrant pictures.
This is a must have for anyone keen on Mexican food.
Thank you to the authors, publisher and NetGalley for the change to review an advanced copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
Salsa being one of my favorite snacks made me so excited for this ARC. Super easy to follow recipes. I can’t wait to try some of them out in my own kitchen.
This was a very interesting book it's interesting how these s a l s a s was made I like the descriptions as well and I also like how the m o l e s or we're also made it was a very interesting cookbook and I learned a lot I like how she explained the history behind it as well
One of my closest friends is from Mexico and over the years I’ve peppered her with all kinds of “white girl” questions such as “what’s the difference between salsa and mole” and “if you call hot sauce salsa how do you pass it at a table without people being confused between tomato salsa and hot sauce?” (Answer what I call salsa she calls pico) I appreciate her humoring me.
POINT IS I was very excited when I saw this book, especially after learning from Michel just how many different types of moles and salsas there are in Mexican cooking.
This book only slightly disappointed me. I would have liked to see more recipes for the different kinds of mole (this book has far more salsas) and I think it would have been helpful to have some front pages dedicated to the questions I posed to my friend.
I wish I could show this book to my friend to get her opinion.
To end on a high note, there’s a photo for every recipe, which I think is helpful for this type of book. I can often imagine what a meal will look like but not a salsa
The book was beautifully written. The photos were mouthwatering. Overall, the book was well written and I did really enjoy it.
Book Review: Spicy Salsas & Moles by Ericka Sanchez & Nicole Presley
Rating: 4 Stars
As a self-proclaimed lover of all things Mexican food, I was beyond excited to dive into Spicy Salsas & Moles: A Cookbook for Lovers of Mexican Heat by Ericka Sanchez and Nicole Presley. This cookbook is like a spicy love letter to salsa that will undoubtedly make your taste buds dance with joy!
From the get-go, the authors set the stage for a culinary adventure filled with bold flavors and spicy surprises. They share their treasured secrets for crafting authentic salsas that promise to make you sweat—literally! The book covers an impressive array of salsas, including cooked and fresh varieties, as well as moles and enchilada sauces. If you’re in the mood for something hot, you might want to try their Mango Habanero Salsa. For those who prefer a more gradual heat, the Smoky Red Pepper Salsa is the way to go. There’s truly something for everyone here!
The structure of the book is fantastic. After the introduction and some handy how-to’s, Sanchez and Presley take readers through various chapters such as Cooked Salsas, Fresh Salsas, Enchilada Salsas, Sweet and Spicy Salsas, Curtidos and Escabeches, Moles and Pipianes, and even a chapter titled Make It Spicy. I especially loved that they included a recipe for homemade tortilla chips—because what’s salsa without chips? This recipe adds a delightful twist to the classic “love triangle” of chips and salsa.
One of the standout features of this cookbook is the stunning photography. Every recipe is accompanied by a full-color photo that leaves nothing to the imagination. I found myself drooling over each page, eagerly anticipating what I’d whip up next. The visuals truly enhance the experience and make you want to jump right into the kitchen.
Overall, Spicy Salsas & Moles is a delightful blend of flavor, flair, and creativity. It's not just a cookbook; it's an invitation to explore the exciting world of Mexican salsas. Whether you're a seasoned chef or a salsa skeptic, this book will definitely leave you wanting more. I can't wait to try out these recipes and turn up the heat in my own kitchen!

This is a beautiful cookbook! The photos are just as nice as the recipes themselves! I loved the inclusion of the tortilla chip recipe at the beginning of the book. Each recipe was easy to follow and sounds so yummy. Looking forward to making many of these salsas soon.
Thank you for the opportunity to review! We tried a few salsas from this book over the past few days, and I'm excited to try more! The portions were great, we got to share some delicious things with a neighborhood potluck. The molé recipes feel more approachable than others we've done, and I'm definitely going to try more of them!
Perfect book for a salsa fanatic!
Stunning photos and thorough instructions. Can't wait to make a few!
