After a delayed and canceled flight, the only way to get to her best friend's destination wedding is to board a private plane with ex, Wyatt. Surviving a crash landing, the pair need to figure out how to survive and deal with their past.
Being compared to Carly Fortune's Every Summer After, which I absolutely adored, I went in with high expectations. It started off cute and I enjoyed the premise at the start. The then pov really lacked in fully engrossing me in their story. I felt it really lacked details on the relationship before they ever started caring for each other in a romantic way.
Being stranded on that island and the crash wasn't even the most unbelievable part. I was able to process that. But something just didn't work. It was boring at times and the characters seemed two dimensional. It was ok. I finished this a week ago and couldn't think of what to write for the review so I put it off. Oops.
Solid romance story from debut author. Wyatt and Piper were close friends turned bf/gf in high school until he suddenly breaks up with her. Fast forward 8 years when they run into each other on the way to a wedding of another friend from their hs group. Cancelled flights lead them to taking a charter plane which crashes. Still harboring hurt feelings, Piper must figure out how to survive with Wyatt. Not the most original story and very predictable, but enjoyable. Pick up at your library.
Thank you Avon and Harper Voyager for providing this book for review consideration via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.
This second chance romance had me glued to my kindle! ✈️
Piper is on her way to attend her best friend’s wedding in the Bahamas, but a crash landing leaves her and her ex deserted on an island together. Will their old feelings get in the way of their survival?! 🏝️
I can’t believe this was Annie’s debut novel! I really enjoyed the storyline and pacing of this book. We get past chapters explaining their relationship mixed with current chapters on the island. And the right amount of romance was given 🩷
This ARC was provided by the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Crash Landing will be published April 1st.
Crash Landing is a solid debut rom-com from Annie McQuaid that I could not put down. This is a second chance, forced proximity story that was full of adventure, some angst and really heartwarming moments. This was an easy but entertaining read perfect for a day on the beach! I predict Annie McQuaid to become another household name in the Romance genre and I can't wait to see what other stories she has to tell!
The interesting premise drew me in and I really wanted to love it, but the execution was lacking a bit. I did like the idea of the alternating chapters between the present and the past, as we got to see more insights and aspects of their relationship. Though I wished there were more scenes of the present and how their relationship developed over time. At times, it was hard to believe Wyatt and Piper’s chemistry. I think a dual POV would have benefited the story, instead of third person. It definitely has potential to be more, but overall, it was a nice, sweet second chance story. A promising debut novel- I’m looking forward to seeing the author’s future works.
2.5⭐️
I don't know where to start. Fantastic. This is FANTASTIC!! I hardly knew anything about this book going in. I requested an ARC from NetGalley because the cover caught my attention, and the blurb made me think the main characters were going to go through (at least) a little bit of a survival situation. Boy, was I overjoyed that it was not just a little survival. Most of the book revolves around it! Thank the Maker!! I LOVE survival romances. They are few and far between and that makes me so sad that more people don't give them a try. Hopefully this book will turn around that mind-set! This is a delightful rom-com survival romance with a cinnamon roll hero.
I cannot wait until this book is published! I'm going to buy a trophy copy for my bookshelves (I mean, why not, it's gorgeous!) and a secondary copy to re-read/annotate. I can't even wait to read it again. After I finished this book (five minutes ago) I learned that this is the author's debut book. "Impressive. Most impressive." (Anyone know what movie that quote is from? - sorry, I digress). I sincerely hope, pray, and wish that this is not Ms. McQuaid's only survival romance. I understand that not all her books could be around that (I mean she could... hopefully), but maybe at least some? Anyway, I cannot sing the praises of this book enough. I'm a fan.
This book is about Piper and Wyatt. They were high school sweethearts... until they weren't. Eight years later they find themselves stranded on an island together. Will this be the chance to sort things out? Or will the stress of surviving cause them to drift further apart? (Drift- get it?? That was intentional).
The only part of this book that took me out of the story a little bit was how long some of the flashbacks were. Don't get me wrong, they contained extremely important information, but I wanted to get back to Piper and Wyatt on the island in the here and now. During the last half of the book the flashbacks were minimal, which I appreciated because it made me fly through the rest of the novel. I would stop reading at night in bed when I just started to get sleepy if the next chapter said "Then." With trimmed up flashbacks I have no doubt this book could absolutely be a best seller.
I want to thank NetGalley for allowing me to read this amazing ARC.
What a beautiful second chance story! It was dramatic and heart wrenching and such a good debut. I loved it.
This book crashed and burned. I really didn't find either main characters likeable at all and they had zero chemistry. I also wasn't a fan of the overabundance of metaphors in the author's writing style. It had a good premise, but it ended up feeling just so dull.
Thank you to the publisher (Avon and Harper Voyager) and NetGalley for the digital ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I was a dash skeptical going into this book because let’s be real, the cover is a bit cheesy. However. I am a HUGE sucker for a second-chance romance, (especially where they were high-school sweethearts) so I took a chance on this book and I am SO glad I did.
Wyatt and Piper hooked me right away. The right amount of miscommunication to not be too annoying, chemistry galore, hot forced proximity, and all the backstory to make you fall in love with them. It’s more of a closed door romance, which I also personally like.
As far fetched as getting stuck on an island with your ex felt, this story read as authentic and by the end I was rooting for them to get off the damn island and live happily ever after. Definitely recommend to second chance and forced proximity romance lovers alike.
I couldn’t get enough of this book! The chemistry between Wyatt and Piper was addictive, and their journey from past lovers to stranded survivors had me hooked from the first page. If second chance romance with a dash of forced proximity is your thing, you’ll love this one.
The history between Wyatt and Piper made their reunion all the more intense. After years of silence, the tension was palpable when they found themselves stuck in the same airport. Wyatt’s offer to fly them out on a private plane seemed like the perfect escape, until they ended up crash-landing on a deserted island. Talk about raising the stakes!
The blend of adventure, romance, and emotional tension made it impossible to put down. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time, watching them navigate not only the wild but their unresolved feelings for each other. Definitely one of my favorite reads in a while.
I really enjoyed this book! The characters were lovely and I loved their storylines. The book was well-written and interesting. This was the first time I’ve read a book by this author and I loved it!
DNF couldn’t get into this one. While the concept really intrigued me, the main character was just really shallow and annoying. As a middle class girlie it’s hard to connect with people from the upper classes. But if you’re looking for a romance from a rich girl’s perspective you’d probably like this one! Happy reading.
This was such a good romantic book. I was hooked from the first sentence. I loved the characters, the plot, and everything in between. The actor did a wonderful job describing the characters and the circumstances they were put it in. This is a great book for anyone looked to be swept a way in a good story with lovable characters.
This was so cute and fun! I don't think I have ever read a book where exes were stranded on an island after a crash and need to figure out how to survive together. That's a really great premise right there! It was really fast paced, and although it's third person POV ans switches between past and present, I felt like it was very well written and the story flowed while also having me hooked from the beginning to the end. I felt the chemistry between Piper and Wyatt and what better test for if you're made for each other than a plan crash and being stranded on an island and having to figure out how to survive with someone you don't really like? It's such a good book, and I highly recommend.
Thank you to NetGalley, Annie McQuaid, and Avon/Harper Voyager for the ARC of this book.
What's worse than being stranded on an island? Being stranded on said island with the guy who broke your heart eight years ago. CRASH LANDING is a cute and breezy read about two people finding their way back together... and by finding, more like forced, due to their plane crashing that was supposed to take them to her best friend and his cousin's wedding. The love and connection between Piper and Wyatt felt believable and pure. 3.5 stars rounded to 4.
Thank you to Avon and Harper Voyager and NetGalley for the arc in exchange for my honest review.
This book has an absolutely adorable premise, but the execution didn’t fully work for me. While the concept was really unique and interesting, I found myself struggling to connect with Wyatt and Piper’s chemistry. The lack of miscommunication and second chance romance tropes, which aren’t typically my favorites, made it harder for me to engage. If those tropes are more your thing, you might really enjoy this! I also felt that third-person POV wasn’t the best choice here, as I think the story would have been more engaging in either single or dual POV. Overall, a cool idea but not my personal favorite execution.
A debut novel set in the third person Crash Landing is a contemporary ROMCOM second chance romance that will having you flying out of your seats and watching two people surving and rekindling their connection on a deserted island. There was one specific thing I really didn’t care for about this book and that was the time jumping back and forth. I understand why Annie McQuaid did it. It told the backstory of how we got to the main characters being in the place for the second chance romance point. How their past made their present possible. Why Piper has issues with Wyatt. Butt If I was truthful, which I am being it is what is making my rating go down. I personally feel like I could have found out this information without going back and forth constantly almost evenly other chapter. I also thought the time jump consistently was weird. At one point it mentioned Senior year and then all of a sudden a few chapters later we were back in Junior year.
When I read the sysnopsis of the book I was really hoping for more island story . The Island story I did get I liked I just wished there was more. I do think that overall the story was good. I liked the reason why they needed to end up on the plane together and that the reason for the crash and that the search efforts and all of that stayed consistent in the story. Overall I will definitely be reading more by this author as it is put out becuase I really enjoyed the writing style!
I love the cover of this book! I love the idea of this books plot! What I did not love was the book. I feel bad because my standards are pretty low for liking a romance book. The biggest problem is I don't believe the love story. The two main characters have zero chemistry. I like the idea of the flashbacks but at times I forgot which time I was in because the characters showed absolutely no growth! How can they act like teenagers when it's 8 or 10 years later? The fact of them being stuck on a desert island seems so unserious for almost the entire book.
SO good! The only thing i can criticize about this book is the pace is a bit slow. I definitely would read more from this author.
