Ready, Set, Slow
For years, stress. Anxiety and speed had been his default states, causing him to become a pilot constantly running on autopilot. He was immersed in the rat race in the sky – one he thought he could win. The ugly truth is that nobody ever does. Life isn’t a game to be won but a gift and a pleasure to be lived in the moment.

Let’s step back and look at the goal of life. What is it exactly that we are all striving to achieve? Although our dreams wear many masks, what people want for themselves and their loved ones, more than anything else, is to be healthy and happy.

Our body isn’t just reacting, it’s overreacting. And repeatedly triggering this fight-or-flight response wears it down. The mind swiftly follows this breakdown, as the pent-up stress has nowhere to go but deeper in.

This book is filled with hope and compassion. I can certainly relate to Martin’s story a little bit. The psychology in this book is really interesting and I understand what it’s trying to say. The author has done a well put job of explaining the concepts and they are easy to grasp.
I like how this book has a little bit of everything in it, concepts, examples. Techniques and history. It helps the value of the book more. I loved the mindfulness section the most. I’m neurodiverse and some of these techniques have really helped me. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I have.

Lee Holden presents the philosophy of slowing down in your life. Modern society has made us believe we always need to be on the go or working hard to achieve our goals as quickly as possible. Holden brings back the old thought that everything has its time and you should savor the moments. One thing Blue Zone areas have in common is a culture of savoring the moment of enjoying the meal one bite at the time and the company of friends during meals or of an evening and taking your time doing a task.
Holden presents Eastern traditional methods for slowing down and participating in life instead of rushing through it. The benefits of slowing done affect your mental and physical self. Improve your health and begin 2025 with Ready, Set, Slow.

“There’s too much at stake not to slow down,” shares Qi Gong master Lee Holden. “By slowing down, you’ll gain time, energy, focus, and clarity.” It seems counterintuitive, yet it's so true. This is the reason why taking a study break at school makes you retain more information when you return. Why taking a short walk during lunch on a long workday leaves you more invigorated. Why the power-nap even exists! In this book, common myths are busted and exercises are provided for retraining your brain and body to slooooow way down...something that doesn't seem to be valued in today's fast-paced society. Do it anyway. You - in twenty years - will thank the you of today.
