Angie Loves to Dance was absolutely adorable.
The secondary font used to emphasize text on each page was stunning and the watercolor illustrations added to the whimsy.
You can tell this was created with care, delight and heart and it's a sweet read to add to your kiddo's bedtime routine!
I read this book with my daughter this afternoon and she loved it!
She attends dancing lessons every week and loved any stories where the main characters do, and have similar hobbies or passions to her so I guessed that this one would be a hit with her and it certainly was. She really enjoyed it from start to finish and there was plenty for us to talk about too after the book finished.
The illustrations were lovely and they worked really well with the story to bring it all together.
It was well written and easy to follow and laid out really well. The text was nice and clear and not clouded by the illustrations.
It is 5 stars from me for this one - very highly recommended!
Like the title states, Angie Loves to Dance. However, she also likes to do many other things! Follow along as she puts on different types of shoes and participates in a wide-range of activities. This is a simple story that shows you can have different interests and that all of these parts of you combine to make you special just as you are. The watercolor art is a unique touch and made it feel soft and whimsical. This a great book for preschool or early elementary aged students and short enough to hold those brief attention spans.
Thanks to BooksGoSocial and NetGalley for an eARC of this book for an honest review.
Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC! My 3yo daughter loves to dance! I thought this book was going to be all about dancing, but it’s more about shoes. She still liked it though. For me, the rhyming and phrasing was odd at times.
The message in this book was nice and the idea was cute but overall the activities the main character was doing felt a little disjointed and random. There wasn’t much to tie the book together. The illustrations were cute but there wasn’t much about this book that makes it stand out.
All around perfect story for any little girl. The story is written in rhymes and follows Angie going all all sorts of adventures in different shoes. The best part was the morale at the end, it doesn’t matter what you wear or the shoes on your feet. Lively story and beautiful illustrations.
I am grateful to Karen Brough, BookGoSocial, and Netgalley for the Digital Reader Copy I received. Here follows my thoughts on the book.
Written in ballad quatrain, the rhymes were sometimes clumsy and heavy, like the writer was trying to condense some lines for the sake of the rhyme rather than the sense of the sentence. However, there was a clear pattern to the text. Each quatrain describes a type of footwear, followed by what it is used for, then the joy it brings.
More than anything, I liked the illustrations. The rough watercolor that sometimes fell over the lines was symbolic of Angie not being pigeon-holed into a box. She was herself and that took many forms. I think the book sends a message that lets little girls be whatever they want, whether that be a dainty princess, or a hilly hiker. I love the overall message that life ought to be fun!
This is as cute, though was expecting a book about dancing based on the title and cover. I enjoyed the fun unexpected words my daughter learned.
A book created as an advert for a shoe shop… Well, that's the feeling – we're meeting Angie, and she has a great heart and joie de vivre for every occasion – and the shoes to match. So insistent is the rhymed script on telling us what shoes and boots she wears for everything, from gardening to just jumping in puddles, that we lose sight of the core, the heart of the woman, and concentrate on the footwear too much. It's almost as if the footwear gives the woman the spirit, and not the other way round, and to match her we're going to need a shoe storage space a lot bigger than the average child can afford. As such, I find this was a piece that lost its way a bit – and added to the fact the beat of the verse was a bit off here and there, and the fact that I didn't quite take to the very scratchy art style, I can only reach to two and a half stars. And before you say that's too low, just put yourself in my shoes...
My niece loved the book and the illustrations.
I loved it to.
It was a light read.
I recommend it.
Angie loves to dance. Angie loves many activities, along with all the shoes she wears while doing them. She enjoys dancing shoes, garden shoes, hiking boots, and rain boots—such an adorable and beautifully illustrated story for young readers.
Thank you so much to Booksgosocial & Heart Hope Publishing and Netgalley for the ebook to read and review.
Angie has many shoes and she uses them to do many different things, each one gives her a new sound, a new feel and a new experience within her life. This was a unique book everything that she did was so varied with a different style of rhyming that went with it.
I liked seeing the variety of activities shown it’s a great way to encourage children to try some of these activities that Angie loves to do. From dancing, to hiking, to swimming. The illustrations weren’t my favourite but were still cute showed off everything that’s he was doing and what her shoes looked like doing each event.
The rhyming was interesting within this book, I didn’t always fully understand all of it, some didn’t always make much sense to me, but regardless it was still a very good read with a cute story to encourage children to try new things.
Angie Likes to Dance is a delightful and heartwarming picture book that celebrates imagination, resilience, and the joy of self-expression. This charming story follows Angie, a young girl who loves to dance in her many different pairs of shoes. Through playful and engaging illustrations, readers are introduced to Angie's boundless enthusiasm and the message that she can be anyone she wants to be, no matter what shoes she’s wearing.
What truly sets this book apart is how it gently teaches children an important life lesson: that falling down and making mistakes are part of the journey and that it’s okay. The story’s emphasis on Angie’s determination to keep dancing, despite the occasional tumble, encourages young readers to embrace challenges and build confidence in themselves.
The vibrant and whimsical artwork perfectly complements the story, drawing readers in and capturing Angie's joyful spirit. This book is a wonderful reminder of the power of creativity and the courage to be oneself. Angie Likes to Dance is perfect for parents, teachers, and caregivers looking to inspire kids to dream big and stay resilient. It’s an enchanting addition to any child's library, bound to become a treasured read!
