Angie Loves to Dance is a heartwarming book with captivating illustrations that inspire readers to embrace and enjoy each day to the fullest. The final message in Angie’s Secret is especially touching and uplifting.
Angie Likes to Dance is a delightful and heartwarming picture book that celebrates imagination, resilience, and the joy of self-expression. This charming story follows Angie, a young girl who loves to dance in her many different pairs of shoes. Through playful and engaging illustrations, readers are introduced to Angie's boundless enthusiasm and the message that she can be anyone she wants to be, no matter what shoes she’s wearing.
What truly sets this book apart is how it gently teaches children an important life lesson: that falling down and making mistakes are part of the journey and that it’s okay. The story’s emphasis on Angie’s determination to keep dancing, despite the occasional tumble, encourages young readers to embrace challenges and build confidence in themselves.
The vibrant and whimsical artwork perfectly complements the story, drawing readers in and capturing Angie's joyful spirit. This book is a wonderful reminder of the power of creativity and the courage to be oneself. Angie Likes to Dance is perfect for parents, teachers, and caregivers looking to inspire kids to dream big and stay resilient. It’s an enchanting addition to any child's library, bound to become a treasured read!
I thank the author for allowing me to read an advanced reader copy of this book.
Angie loves to dance. Angie loves many activities, along with all the shoes she wears while doing them. She enjoys dancing shoes, garden shoes, hiking boots, and rain boots—such an adorable and beautifully illustrated story for young readers.
My niece loved the book and the illustrations.
I loved it to.
It was a light read.
I recommend it.
This is as cute, though was expecting a book about dancing based on the title and cover. I enjoyed the fun unexpected words my daughter learned.
All around perfect story for any little girl. The story is written in rhymes and follows Angie going all all sorts of adventures in different shoes. The best part was the morale at the end, it doesn’t matter what you wear or the shoes on your feet. Lively story and beautiful illustrations.
Like the title states, Angie Loves to Dance. However, she also likes to do many other things! Follow along as she puts on different types of shoes and participates in a wide-range of activities. This is a simple story that shows you can have different interests and that all of these parts of you combine to make you special just as you are. The watercolor art is a unique touch and made it feel soft and whimsical. This a great book for preschool or early elementary aged students and short enough to hold those brief attention spans.
Thanks to BooksGoSocial and NetGalley for an eARC of this book for an honest review.
I read this book with my daughter this afternoon and she loved it!
She attends dancing lessons every week and loved any stories where the main characters do, and have similar hobbies or passions to her so I guessed that this one would be a hit with her and it certainly was. She really enjoyed it from start to finish and there was plenty for us to talk about too after the book finished.
The illustrations were lovely and they worked really well with the story to bring it all together.
It was well written and easy to follow and laid out really well. The text was nice and clear and not clouded by the illustrations.
It is 5 stars from me for this one - very highly recommended!
Angie Loves to Dance was absolutely adorable.
The secondary font used to emphasize text on each page was stunning and the watercolor illustrations added to the whimsy.
You can tell this was created with care, delight and heart and it's a sweet read to add to your kiddo's bedtime routine!
This is the sweetest picture book! Originally a person would think it's all about the shoes she is wearing each day. But it's much more than that. It's taken note of the joy that Angie brings to everyone she encounters, and just her zeal for life is seen on all the pages. I love the rhyming, the larger vocabulary that is woven into the story, and the art is adorable.
This is a children’s book full of beautiful pictures. Angie loves to dance all the times, in different settings and in different ways.
Angie has fun wherever she goes, and you can, too!
The illustrations by artist Hiruni Kariyawasam are soothing, simple, gently colorful, and expressive.
Well suited for reading WITH someone of any age including ESL, and great for gifting to everyone, but especially to a school, doctor's office, or your local public library!
I requested and received a temporary uncorrected proof on PDF from the author and BooksGoSocial via NetGalley. Thank you!

I really like the meaning and central theme of this book, but I don't think the title makes total sense. I love how Angie finds ways to spread joy no matter what activity she is engaging in, and no matter what pair of shoes she's wearing. Choosing shoes as a grounding point to help define Angie as a character was a smart idea! Additionally, the author chose a variety of different shoes. This keeps the book fresh and exciting, so that readers don't get bored while reading. However, as I mentioned earlier, the title doesn't fit as good as Angie's shoes do. Angie has a range of things that she does and spreads joy while doing, but the title only mentions one of those many things. I would have liked to see the title reflect the amount of detail that the overall story has, but that is my only critique. All in all, this book was a joy to read and I have no doubt that other readers will enjoy reading it as well!
Angie loves to dance… and prance, stomp, splash and glide. No matter the occasion or the shoes, she is ready to enjoy all that life has to offer. As she goes through all her adventures, the reader goes on the journey with her. There’s some fun, new words to learn and I particularly enjoyed the hunt for the hidden hearts throughout the book. I struggled to tell the age of our protagonist (is she a child or adult, or growing up in the story?) but otherwise a great book with a great message.
Thank you to BooksGoSocial and NetGalley for the digital ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Adventures with Angie
Angie brings the energy of embracing each scenario and making the most. She takes her shoes and you while truly living life. She is an inspiration to actually live life.
The illustration moved through various settings and actions supporting the range from casual to action filled.
A great book to teach kids to get in the moment. I think this would be a great book to read to individual child and also a great conversation starter in a classroom and/or story time setting to engage peers in conversation around the topics included.
I received a free copy of this book from Karen Brough and BooksGoSocial. I am voluntarily leaving a review. All opinions are my own.
This is a lighthearted picture book that focuses on celebrating joy in the little moments. I loved the theme of different shoes being used throughout the course of the book for different activities. I really enjoyed the “Angie’s Secret” page at the end because it will engage readers with the questions. The only thing I would change about this book is the illustrations because I wasn’t a huge fan of the illustration style.
A wonderful story for our little ones that really embraces the importance of taking in every moment of life. We follow Angie and she sees her life as an adventure. In each of her different pairs of shoes we see another way that Angie loves to live and enjoy her life. She really finds the extraordinary in everyday ordinary things and moments. She expresses herself in different ways and through many different emotions. This story is so uplifting and just what I think all our children, and adults, need to hear. It is a perfect story for snuggle time with your little ones. The story opens so many opportunities to talk about different emotions, everything from happiness to nervousness. It shows the importance of family, friends and every little thing in our lives. The whimsical illustrations go great with the vibe and feelings of the story. Your family will love this story. Enjoy the adventure together!
Angie Loves to Dance is an engaging read, one your children will surely love! With delightfully childlike illustrations, we are given a glimpse of Angie's daily life and the various shoes she wears for different activities--from hiking to playing in the rain, there's bound to be a situation your child can relate to!
Note: the book isn't focused on dancing, despite the title.
