Jordan Harcourt-Hughes’s Bitroux is a mesmerizing blend of science fiction and fantasy that takes readers on a journey through interdimensional mysteries and profound transformations. With its richly imagined world and complex characters, this novel is a captivating exploration of discovery, responsibility, and the boundaries of reality.
The story centres on Merouac, a man whose life takes an unexpected turn when he discovers he possesses other-worldly abilities that allow him to tune metal to interdimensional frequencies. While he initially believes his life’s work will culminate in leading the metal workshops of the Transcontinental Railroad Project, Merouac soon finds himself at the heart of a much larger and more mysterious challenge.
As he navigates his newfound abilities, Merouac also takes on the role of guardian to his niece, Evra, who may have more to teach him than he ever anticipated. His decision to help an interdimensional race find refuge underground further complicates his life, drawing him into a deeper mystery that reshapes his understanding of reality.
Harcourt-Hughes’s world-building is nothing short of spectacular, blending the intricate details of a fantastical realm with the tension of interdimensional exploration. The novel’s exploration of themes like discovery, responsibility, and the nature of reality is both thought-provoking and emotionally resonant. Merouac is a compelling protagonist, his journey of self-discovery and growth making him a character readers will root for.
The supporting cast, including the enigmatic Evra and the interdimensional race, adds depth and richness to the narrative. The pacing is masterful, with each twist and turn heightening the sense of wonder and suspense. Harcourt-Hughes’s prose is lyrical and evocative, capturing the beauty and complexity of the world of Ahm with equal skill.
Bitroux is a story of transformation and discovery, of the courage to embrace the unknown and the responsibility that comes with power.

This was an interesting read. I loved the metal art/sculpture parts of it, as much as the tuning in & their adventures. I do believe in frequencies, so to see it played out in this story was quite interesting.
It was a little slow to get into, and then in parts too.
