A sweet story about a newly born firefly trying to figure out what she is. The illustrations are charming, but the story fell a bit flat for me. Her journey is quite short, I wanted her to compare herself to more other glowing things. P.D. Eastman did this kind of search for identity much more effectively in his classic Are You My Mother?).
This is a very sweet little book about a firefly trying to find others like her. My daughter (5) very much enjoyed the drawings, and the characters. Seeing a little girl like her help the firefly made her very happy. She was engaged and followed the emotions through the story, feeling sad when Clementine was sad, and nervous when things got tense. We chatted about her feelings with the story, and she was so happy when the the little girl showed up. For my part I think this book was well written, the story is clear and easy to follow. The illustrations are adorable, and even when a 'scary' moment happens, the illustrations remain on theme. Clementine's journey is a very cute little book, and to some effect, helped my daughter to see bugs as other creatures and not scary things. Definitely one we'll be looking to pick up in hard copy for the bookshelf. We read this digital picture book through NetGalley.
The Journey of Clemintine tells the story of a little lightening bug born on a warm summer night. Neither she nor the other insects she encountered knew what kind of bug she was. She wondered if she were a star or perhaps bright twinkling lights in the distance since she lit up. Clemintine was about to be eaten by a bat when a lantern held by a little girl saved her. Taking Clemintine into her hands, the girl set off to find the other lightning bugs. Clemintine discovered other bugs like her!
Super cute story of a lighting bug finding his family. I did think she'd have more of a journey, but overall, a cute read for the little ones.
Thank you to NetGalley and Publisher Spotlight | NubeOcho for the e-ARC of this title to read and review. The Journey of Clementine is a sweet story. I adore the illustrations, and I think they greatly upped my enjoyment of the overall book. They are just the right amount of cartoony- and also illuminating and beautifully representative of a glow in the night sky. The bugs are colorful and fun, and show each of their uniqueness. The story itself was less strong, in my view, because it starts off as a quest to find Clementine's identity, and we are left mostly having to guess it ourselves. The discovery doesn't quite feel satisfying.
Cute and very quick little story. I think it would be better suited for very young children, and not any that are looking for a little more for their bedtime story.
Clementine is new to the big woods she was born into. Eager to find out what she is and others like herself, she meets several creatures that are equally curious to know what she is. Come along this short story with beautiful illustrations capturing the beauty of compassion, bravery, self discovery and friendship.
This is so cute!! The art is beautiful and it really makes you appreciate nature more. Every page looked so peaceful and I just wanted to jump into the book itself and go exploring with Clementine. The firefly aspect of the story kind of reminded me of the fireflies in The Princess and the Frog movie and it just felt very nostalgic. This would be perfect as a bedtime story for children!

Super cute story! I know it’s a children’s book but it felt rushed and then never really answers the question of what clementine is. For a child who doesn’t live near fireflies/lightning bugs/etc, they will definitely be left wondering!!
The Journey of Clementine is a sweet picture book that follows a lightning bug on a journey to find out who she is. The illustrations in this book really stood out and were definitely the star of the show. I liked the plot, but wish there had been a couple more pages at the end with Clementine at her destination. Overall, a super cute read for the littles and the illustrations definitely made it worthwhile! Thanks to NetGalley, Publisher Spotlight, and Alessandro Montagnana for the chance to read and review. My opinions are my own!
Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC!
This picture book is absolutely beautiful! I loved the illustrations. The story follows a little lightning bug trying to find others like her and a little girl fascinated with the pretty lights in her yard. My 3yo liked Clementine and the other bugs. She really liked that the other lightning bugs were all different colors, especially the purple one. 😊 I highly recommend!
Newborn Clementine has no idea of what species of creature she is; all she knows is that she burns pretty bright. Some insects peg her as a fellow insect, but what kind? But in the end (no spoiler) she finds other twinkling insects of her own kind. Cute message, but meh execution.
In the interest of full disclosure, I received this book from NetGalley, Publisher Spotlight and NubeOcho in exchange for an honest review.
This is a cute little book about finding where you belong. I liked the underlying message that when we lose ourselves sometimes our light can go out. But when we find a place to belong it can be relit again.
Thanks NetGalley for this ARC.
"Is that it?"- one of the kid that was listening while i read this book to them through call. They were confused on what type of insect Clementine is since the book didn't have the specific answer. Also when i ask them to guess based on the pages they hardly recognize the spark since the book is a little dark the light is not that visible. Maybe one more page with the answer will do.
Oh my goodness, why am I about to cry because of a children's book?! This was such an adorable, short story to add to a little one's library. Clementine is a newborn firefly trying to find her place in the world. The ending was so sweet!
A short story of Clementine, a firefly, who finds many creatures but is lost from those similar to her. The dark pictures paint a great bedtime story.
The Journey of Clementine is about a firefly named Clementine who doesn't know what she is. She meets some helpers along the way that help her make the journey to meeting other fireflies. The overall story and illustrations reminded me a bit of Eric Carle and fans of his would probably also enjoy this story.
Thanks to NubeOcho and NetGalley for an eARC of this book for an honest review.
