A powerful and joyful addition to any library, but particularly “young kings.” With lots of famous Black men represented in the illustrations (and a helpful icon key at the end), this book could be read over and over again each time a child learns about another of these important figures. My personal favorite part was the moment of appreciation for Black men’s/boys’ hair. I’ve read a lot of books that celebrate Black girls hair, but not very many for Black boys. It could just be the stories I’m picking up, but I’m happy to see it all the same!

Loved that this celebrated our young block boys. It was fun and my elementary kids really enjoyed reading it and learning more.

Black Boy, Black Boy is a beautiful book that seeks to raise up and celebrate little Black boys, in a world that still seems determined to try to pull them down.
Angela Bowden's validating and uplifting words are full of passion, pride and love, and Ibe Ananaba's gorgeous artwork is joyful, dynamic, and vibrant. Each page is a reiteration of the fact that the Black boys this book is intended for are important, they are loved, and they can do anything they set their minds to.
I was fortunate enough to receive an advance digital copy to review, from Nimbus Publishing & Netgalley, but as soon as it was published I requested a copy be added to our Library's pre-school collection. A wonderful book!

It’s a celebration of their magic, power, and the undeniable truth that they are their ancestors' wildest dreams come to life. This inspiring and uplifting book is a must-read for every young Black boy, filling them with pride, confidence, and love. Highly recommend for personal collections, classrooms, and community spaces!

Bold, vivid illustrations representing black boys and men across generations and history make this a great book for encouraging black boys to practice self love, confidence, and pride for their roots. I would recommend this book to any young reader interested in a baseline introduction to black history as well, as the illustrations of historical figures leave plenty of space for discussion with young readers.

A beautiful book that is narrated in a very-well rhyming and flowing poem that celebrates being Black and empowers Black children, especially boys.
Thanks to its layers and general appeal, it is empowering for everyone.
The art style is fresh. As for the selected role models/examples/successful-influential Black people, I do not feel qualified to speak about them, though, objectively, it is diverse selection.
The book feels like an energy ball.
