A nice introduction to zoology and different professions available to zoologists. The photographs are nice. It's a good combination of adults at work and interesting animals.
This text would be best for 3rd-5th graders, or possibly younger ones who are interested in animals and have patience for the bigger words.
Thank you for the ARC! I will purchase for my library.

Most kids think at some point that they would like to work with animals. This book shows some of the amazing careers they can work toward, with basic descriptions of what they need to do to prepare and what the jobs are like. There are also wonderful photographs showing some of the settings and animals.
My favorite thing was how at the end it talked about different things kids could do to prepare, such as volunteering with a rescue. This book is a practical and realistic guide to these kinds of jobs.
Thanks to NetGalley for letting me read this

This is a high level book about zoologists that is perfect for children looking into careers with animals. There are fun facts about animals, and there are many photographs. I enjoyed this.

I really enjoyed this book. I thought it would just be a general book about zoologists and what they do (ie study animals). But the author goes over different career paths that zoologists could take such as herpetology or marine biologist. This really shows children how diverse this career path is and opens up the possibility of them finding an area that might interest them.

What is a zoologist and do they only work in zoos? What kind of specialists are there? What is an ichthyologist? Is it the same as being a veterinarian? How do they study animals and why? This book is part of a series of books for youth in which Scientific American investigates careers in science and is filled with interesting photographs.
Great for gifting or recommending to a school or your local public library!

This is a great. simple, and easy-to-understand guide to zoology for young readers. All advanced terms are explained in age-appropriate language, which is a perfect way to expand vocabularies. Additionally, I really appreciated how specific this book got, rather than just having a broad explanation of zoology. It creates for a much more interesting and rich book that is full and well-rounded in its information. Lastly, I have one small note to make. I would have liked to see pronunciations included with the bolded terms. This will add a cherry on top of the facts listed, and it also lets readers get more involved in the topic of the book in a different way. Great book!

One of a set of six books that define and discuss the varieties of scientific careers, for the older primary school child. This gives examples of what an ichthyologist might be concerned with, or what a herpetologist concentrates on at work, and so much more. We get a page of text and a more pictorial page to follow, which can often have box-outs and captions and bonus factoids, but not in a way that interrupts any flow from the main text. It is, then, very readable, very informative, and only encourages you to think of science as a life option. A commendable approach – four and a half stars.
