Narrators: Stina Nielsen, Joshua Manning - I like Stina as a narrator but I felt her voice was too 'normal' for Katie, the female main character. It needed more spunk and fun. The Scottish accents were pretty good and added authenticity to the story. I did prefer reading the text though.
A Pepper Basham rom-com will always be fun, swoony, and quirky in all of the best ways. Some Like it Scot has so much humour but it also has some very tender and important moments. Healing is another important aspect to this novel. And if you have a fondness for puns, well.... you'll find this extra punny!
I think most, if not all women, can relate to Katie. We all have our self-conscious concerns and we tend to worry about living up to the expectations of others. Katie, also has the biggest heart and a love for people, nature, and beauty. Graeme and her have a rather unusual and gruff start to things but they eventually become friends and sparks start sparking! The clean but potent chemistry and swoon factor will send your inner squeals afire!
Graeme and Katie share a sad commonality. They both lost a sister and they went through rather different grieving experiences; however, it ends up drawing them closer. Graeme's confidence and tenderness become like an antidote to Katie's need to feel she has a home to belong to. Likewise, Graeme's trust and loyalty also needs a soft place to land.
One of my many highlights from the novel: "It seems to me we need to pray you find home, Katie-girl, because every wandering heart needs a place to rest."
As I said before, there is comic relief in many forms: clumsiness, odd situations, awkwardness, sarcastic moments, the puns, etc. Yet there are equally wonderful and deeper moments that are so touching because they are so relatable.
Be ready for cheeky parrots, suspicious sheep, grumpy Highland cows, and all sorts of hi-jinx. The characters within this book are varied and the community will win you over. ANNNNNNND.... there are kilts. (Cue the bagpipes.)
>>> Huge thanks to the publisher, Thomas Nelson, and to Net Galley for providing me with a digital advance copy of this novel. My review is in my own words.

This was pretty cute and definitely funny, but it just didn't quite hit for me. I can't put my finger on it besides maybe they each had too much trauma which weighed down the story and didnt vibe with the hilarity of the rest of it.

Pepper Basham has created a beautiful story. Beautiful scenery, beautiful people, beautiful grief. *Extra bonus points for the audiobook accents*
This book does a great job of being light and fun while also discussing deep topics. Pepper describes this in the Authors Note by stating "this story is filled with little hints about finding home, or sibling grief, or self confidence." It's easy to see a little bit of each of us within Graham and Katie's story.
Heads up - this book does have mentions of Christianity. It does a great job of not being overly pushy about it, but it is present. Due to this, it also is not "spicy".

Quick and fun romance read. I appreciated how clean this was and would consider stocking in my classroom. I didn't love the historical play-acting characters were engaged in, but the overall vibe and romance were sweet & cute.

Thank you NetGalley for the advance reader audiobook! The premise of this book was really cute and I enjoyed listening to it. It was a book I knew would end a certain way but enjoyed the listen along the way. I would recommend it to anyone that wanted a nice easy read - perfect for the summer! Made me want to go to Scotland ASAP.

Katie Campbell is a travel writer who finds herself falling (quite literally) for handsome Graeme MacKerrow while on assignment in Scotland. Prone to hilarious mishaps, Katie has made her living by sharing her misadventures with readers all over the world and loving every minute of it. She has never had any real desire to settle down or stay put, so why does she find herself warming to the idea of finally finding "home" in Scotland? Perhaps it is because this idyllic little town calls to mind her Scottish grandparents, the only adults in Katie's life who had ever genuinely made her feel loved and cared for. Perhaps it is because her heart has been well and truly captured by the "Hot Scot" along with warm and doting Mirren, boisterous and witty Lachland, and a host of other lovable characters on the charming Isle of Mull.
This book is like a hot cup of tea and a warm hug from a friend. Pepper Basham brings a great mix of hilarity, heartwarming romance, and a healthy dose of faith to Some Like it Scot. I found myself falling in love with the idea of Scotland and this cast of genuine, good-natured people, and I was wholeheartedly rooting for Katie to find her home among them. Some Like it Scot is a Christian romance, so there is no profanity or explicit content. It is a sweet romance story with a little touch of faith sprinkled in. I loved the fact that Basham also included messages of body positivity and reassurance that we all need and deserve a place to belong. My heart is happy!
The audiobook version of Some Like it Scot was wonderful! Stina Nielsen and Joshua Manning truly brought this story to life for me. I appreciated the dialect so much more when I heard it spoken in a Scottish accent. I would absolutely recommend the audiobook version over the text copy. I now fully understand and appreciate Katie's obsession with hearing Graeme call her "lass" 😉

Once again, Pepper enchants you again with a heartfelt romance filled with a rich setting, witty banter and characters with depth! Set in the breathtaking country of Scotland, we follow travel writer Katie Campbell who embarks on a 3 week Edwardian experience. What begins as a professional journey turns into one of self-discovery, unexpected friendships and an irresistible connection with a BROODING SCOT! Sign. Me. Up!
Katie is a "wee bit lost", having spent her life bouncing from place to place, never really setting anywhere. She deep down wants a feeling of HOME and finds it here. Enter our handsome SCOT -- Graeme -- who is a great, hardworking family man and you have one great relationship that develops between the two. He is gruff, but an endearing, kind man helping raise his nephew after his brother passed away. The layer of grief experienced and explained in this book - is beautiful. Reading Pepper's author's note also added to the story because of her own experience writing this book. But "dinnae fash", Basham's signature humor shines through as Katie navigates the quirks of Edwardian living and the people who make this place feel like home.
The romance between Katie and her Scotsman is a sweet, slow burn that I really enjoyed, filled with many heartfelt and swoon-worthy brogue moments - with a sense of family that makes this story truly special.
Highly recommend this healing story as a love letter to Scotland, family, and the kind of love that doesn't ask you to change but rather to stay.
Thank you to Thomas Nelson for a copy of the eBook and audiobook to honestly read/listen to for review. (I have also preordered the book, so recommend you do too!) All thoughts and opinions are my own.

An enjoyable, pleasant read, with very lovable characters. The Scottish highlands provide a magical background for this fun, quirky story.
There are some heavier themes, of grief but handled well and presented in healthy ways that support the story well. Faith is important to these characters, but doesn’t overwhelm the story just builds into the characters development, and allows for some really well developed moments. An enjoyable listen, if you enjoy a lighthearted romance and the Scottish highlands!
Thanks NetGalley & ThomasNelsonFiction for this ARC

Some Like It Scot is such a refreshing story. Basham's Katie and Graham had me smiling like an "idjit" and laughing out loud. I may have even kicked my feet a time or two. Katie's character reminded me, in some ways, of one of my favorite characters -- Anne of Green Gables. Her exuberance for life, ability to find beauty in the ordinary, and her whimsical musings brought an extra lightness to the already charming story.
I listened to the audiobook, and both narrators were fantastic. The accents were perfect, and they drew me in from the start. I felt like I was listening to friends.
Thank you, NetGalley for allowing me the opportunity to listen/read and review this gem!

The fmc main character just goes on and on and on and on and on- even on 1.5x speed I could barely stand it! Hardly gets to the story, just yaps. It's like you're hearing every single little tiny thought that goes through her head I HATED it. The mmc was slightly better- at least he kept to the storyline.
Please don't read this book. I wanted so badly to DNF, but my friend and I made fun of it while eating cookies. Also the mmc had a nice voice.

"Oh my goodness! I loved this book. So sweet, so beautiful, and so funny! Well written and very enjoyable. Pepper Basham is a new to me author. 5 ⭐️ to her writing. I loved the scottish setting, the folklore, and wonderful Scottish people portrayed in this book. Graeme is the most giant of cinnamon roll heroes. Katie is the most alive and go-with-the-flow ""mis-adventurer."" You will be laughing along with her in all of her scrapes she gets into. While this book is fun it also deals with themes of grief and disconnected parents. It also mentions God and going to church and the characters' faith in Him. It is not ""preachy"" or pushy, simply the characters have faith and it is shown as characteristics of the main characters. There are no swears or alcohol, and level 1 non-descriptive kisses only. Dual first person present POV. I listened to the Audiobook and the dual narrators were superb and did excellent accents. I received a complimentary copy of this audiobook. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. #SomeLikeItScot #NetGalley #ThomasNelsonFiction"

I listed to the audio book and I loved this one! It had an interesting and creative storyline and I could not put it down!

This Is Wonderful!
🌷I was expecting a cute romcom with a bit of a Scottish flare but what I got was an amazing story full of funny, chaotic misadventures, a homey family, faith, tons of Scottish language/ scenery and personal growth!
🌷Both of the main characters are wonderful and the side characters are not far behind. From the knitting ladies to a sweet little boy and even a crazy bird every character was written perfectly.
🌷Also the narrators are top notch! They do a fantastic job at bringing the story to life and keep you wanting to know more.
🌷I absolutely adored everything about this book! Highly recommend it as your next read!

Pepper Basham has done it AGAIN! 💖 Some Like It Scot had me swooning for days with its beautiful, hilarious, and heartfelt story about how genuine kindness and neighborly love can soften even the most guarded hearts. 🥰
Our journey begins with Katie—tall, accident-prone, and a travel writer influencer who has never quite found a place to call home. 🏕️✈️ But her next big story takes her to her ancestral homeland—Scotland! 🇨🇱 And cue the Hallmark music 🎶—because this trip comes with an unexpected bonus: a tall, brooding, irresistibly grumpy Scot named Graeme. 😍💙
Graeme has shut off his heart, but then Katie stumbles (literally) into his world, and suddenly, those walls don’t seem so sturdy. 🏰🔥 Oh, and let’s not forget those lips—because apparently, they make Graeme want to throw away his eyeballs. 👀😂
Both Katie and Graeme are running from painful losses, each with something the other needs. 💔❤️ Will they open their hearts and accept the love waiting for them? Or will the town’s delightfully meddlesome book club (which just so happens to include Graeme’s mom 😏) have to give them a little nudge in the right direction? 📚💘
This book is everything I love about Pepper Basham’s writing—humor, depth, and romance that makes your heart melt. 💕 A perfect blend of laughter, love, and second chances with a Scottish twist. Highly recommend! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

While I enjoyed Kaite and Graeme, I should have looked closer at the category listing on NetGalley because I was not expecting this to be a Christian Romance. Also, what good, steady Christian man offers 'no strings attached' because my mother would be shocked.
Small moments of religious trauma aside, Some Like it Scot had very strong themes of grief, loss, and belonging which I really enjoyed. Kaite and Graeme were two different sides of the same coin and I enjoyed their journey.

This was a sweet story about love, family, grief and acceptance. I usually read rom-coms and while there were so amusing instances in this book, I wouldn’t call it a rom-com. I also had never read a book categorized as a Christian romance before and I wasn’t certain what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised. While religion was sprinkled throughout the story, it wasn’t front and center.
Katie and Graham had a not so cute meet, and he definitely was a grump for the beginning of the story, but once we were able to really see him, it was clear that he was a sweetheart. Katie is looking for someplace or people to call home. Each had holes to fill and they fit together and complimented each other perfectly.
The book wouldn’t have been the same without the wonderful supporting characters. I fell in love with a little boy named Lachlan. The author did a wonderful job of building the world and really showing us who the characters are,
I listened to the audio book and I really enjoyed the narration. The male and female narrator each did wonderful Scottish brogue and I enjoyed listening to both of them. The only thing that would have made the narration better would have been if it was done as a duet rather than just dual narrators.
If you are looking for a sweet story, characters to fall in love with and a beautiful story, you will enjoy this book.

I loved this audiobook sooo much! This author writes books with me in mind - I just know it! This particular book gave me all the feels. I felt the mis-adventures through and through. I loved the saving and the mending in this story! You need to read this book! You will love it!
Thanks to NetGalley for this opportunity, all opinions and thoughts are my own.

This book was a slow build for me and felt a little long for the story that it told. I felt like it could have been much shorter. I loved the setting and the found family aspect. Graham’s family really were a great part of this book. There was one plot hole that just bugged me - there is never any explanation as to where Lachlan’s father is during this story. It doesn’t matter but the lack of explanation kept bugging me. The romance grew on me. I was leaning towards a 3 star rating until the very end where it picked up and I liked how it ended.
I enjoy dual point of view first person narration and I enjoyed the performance of both voice actors on the audiobook. Accents are hard and while I’m not certain whether or not the male narrator is actually Scottish but if not, that accent was well done.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the an advanced copy of this audiobook. The thoughts and opinions in this review are my own.
Content Notes: Kisses

This was my first book by Pepper Basham and I am looking forward to reading more from her. Some Like It Scot was a charming romance delightfully set in Scotland. The grump/sunshine romance was so cute and funny. I really enjoyed all the Scottish customs, folklore, and history. Joshua Manning and Stina Nielsen did a great job with the accents and slang in the dual perspective narration.
Thank you Thomas Nelson and Zondervan Fiction Audio for this early copy. All opinions are my own.

ALC for Net Galley
I loved the audio on this one. I thought that Joshua Manning (excellent accent) and Stina Nielson did an excellent job of brining Graeme and Katie to life.
This is an amazing story of love lost, tragedy, challenging family dynamics and find a true sense of home. Katie - "Miss Adventure" is an adorable disaster. Graeme is the grumpy Scot who had his heart broken by his fiancé.
His family and community encourage bringing them together and nature takes its course. His nephew Lachlan even does his part.
This book will make you laugh, cry, and give you lots of warm fuzzies.
