Description
She lives her life on the fly. His heart is double-knotted to home. Can two different souls create a life together?
Popular travel writer and podcaster Katie Campbell roams the world collecting other people's stories. She's built a career as "Miss Adventure," known for saying yes to anything new--country, food, or experience--and predictably finding those adventures taking a downward turn into misadventures.
Offered the chance to explore her ancestral roots through a three-week Edwardian experience, Katie finds herself immersed in the beauty and eccentricity of Scotland. In her period attire, with traditional foods and activities, the opportunities for misadventures are endless, especially with the presence of a maniacal macaw, a jealous co-worker, and an all-too-surly Scotsman.
Reclusive and protective Graeme MacKerrow doesn't venture far from his island home. A stoic Scotsman, Graeme's comfort zone has always been family, and after his sister's death, he's even more determined to save the MacKerrow ancestral home and keep those he loves close. The sudden intrusion of a six-foot-one American lass, famous for her traveling misfortunes, was far from his plan.
As this world of folklore, community, and woodworkers-in-kilts tempts Katie to discover her own story, could this one grand series of misadventures lead her directly to where she belongs? And would a settled-in-Scot ever risk loosening his grip on what's familiar to allow a wanderlust writer a home in his heart? How could their very different worlds share the same page of life's story when "home" is in two very different places? But maybe home--and the future--isn't quite what either one imagined it would be. Maybe home is less about a place . . . and more about a person.

Surprisingly enough, this was my first ever read by Pepper Basham and it certainly did not disappoint! As soon as I started reading, I could tell that I loved her writing style. It instantly pulled me into the story and kept me highly entertained until the end! Pepper’s talent with descriptive writing painted such a vivid picture of beautiful Scotland in my mind’s eye.
This book had some of my favorite tropes including a grumpy/sunshine trope that was absolute perfection! I loved that the FMC was not your average, petite character but rather 6’ tall and “well-built” 🤭 The fact that Graeme was able to make her feel small was the best! The meet-cute was one of the best meet-cutes I’ve read in a while; it really showed off the main character’s personalities to a T 😂
Katie didn’t have a place she considered home and traveling the world for a job certainly didn’t help matters. When she arrives in Scotland and falls instantly in love with the raw beauty of the country and possibly a local Scotsman, could she possibly begin to consider setting down roots? Katie’s life has had its fair share of pain and quite a bit more than its fair share of mishaps, or misadventures as she dubs them. Can she finally find peace and healing in the beautiful country of Scotland? Can she possibly trust someone enough with her brokenness and choose to stay with them?
Graeme was the perfect counterpart for vivacious Katie, with all of her wildness and misadventures. His was a calm and easygoing life now made a bit more wild by a certain redheaded American, but he was able to be that strong and secure presence she needed in her life. Graeme had his fair share of hurts and pain over the years as well and I love that they were able to finally find some semblance of healing together ♥️
This book showed such real and raw relationships of people with God. It’s one of those stories you can easily relate to because you’ve been through similar struggles. I love how the characters made such an effort to truly seek God and make Him an active part of their lives.
This book was breathtakingly beautiful ♥️ It gave off Tea With Elephants by Robin Jones Gunn vibes 🥹 I highlighted so many beautiful quotes in this book!

The audiobook of this story was phenomenal! The narrator for Graham was superb and really brought him to life!

𝗙𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁:
I always love book based in fun destinations so when I saw this slow burn sweet romance in Scotland it was an instant yes. This story follows two characters both who are dealing with loss in different ways and sheds a beautiful light on how we all process grief differently. I love both characters and how they bring balance to each other in different ways. You even get the knight on the shinning white horse moment, iykyk. Really fun book with a lots of depth and character growth. Plus the narration was spectacular and added so much to this story.
𝐒𝐲𝐧𝐨𝐩𝐬𝐢𝐬:

Some Like It Scot by Pepper Basham is a charming contemporary romance that seamlessly blends humor, heart, and swoon-worthy moments. Set against a gorgeous Scottish backdrop, it blends humor, heart, and swoon-worthy moments. Perfect for fans of clean and wholesome romance.

I dinnae ken if ye love Scottish stories as much as I do, but either way Some Like it Scot is a must read for Christian romcom fans!
Pepper Basham is one of my very favorite authors! I’ve read every single one of her books, and one of the things I love most about her writing (besides the knee-weakening kisses of course!) is the way I always find hope between the pages of her books! Her words speak truth straight to my heart, and every time I read one it feels like coming home!
I could so relate to Katie! No, I’m not a traveler, but I am a writer, and I’m tall, curvy, and often struggle with feeling unworthy and unwanted so I feel like we have quite a bit in common!
Graeme just might be my dream man! He’s strong, but gentle. Artistic and hardworking. A funny and tender-hearted family man with a heart for the Lord. And I mean come on, the man has a KILT!!!!! Not to mention a swoon-worthy accent that, were it directed at me, could likely make me forget my own name! Yes, please! Sign. Me. Up!
I also adored the side characters, especially little Lachlan, he is just the most precious thing ever!
I fell in love with the setting of this book immediately, and I hated to leave when I reached the end!
The Edwardian era is my favorite historical time period, so I absolutely loved the “Edwardian Experience” featured in this story! That element of the story sorta gave me Austenland vibes and I loved that!
This book gently and gracefully touches on the difficult topic of sibling grief, sprinkled with hope and healing. However, this story never felt depressing or too difficult to read. I’ve not experienced sibling grief, but I have experienced grief at the loss of other loved ones. One of the things I’m amazed by is how seamlessly Pepper Basham balances the heartbreaking and the humorous. Because in addition to being touching and poignant, this story is also hysterically funny! I completely lost track of how many times I laughed out loud while reading!
I totally and completely adored everything about Some Like it Scot!
I seriously wish I could crawl into this book and live there!
I think the world needs a new catchphrase to go alongside “Keep Calm and Carry On.”
I vote for “Dinnae fash yerself, just read Some Like it Scot.”
This book has a spot on my favorites of 2025 list, and I now NEED the paperback for my shelves!
Some Like it Scot is happiness in book form, and I most highly recommend it! Please do yourself a favor and grab a copy of this one! You will not be sorry!
P.S. the audiobook is absolutely phenomenal! Can you say SWOON?!

This was a fun listen. I loved the accents! The storyline was fun and interesting. Truly enjoyed this audiobook!

This was so good!! It's quite the emotional journey for Katie as she's still figuring out where she belongs, but the humor and her "mis-adventures" really balance everything out nicely. The setting for this story is just beautiful, and the idea of an edwardian themed week of classes is so fun!!! Also, #hotscot!! The way the main characters' relationship progressed just felt so natural and I loved it!! Thank you to NetGalley and to the publisher for my audio ARC!!

If you love adventures and traveling I think you will love this book!! This book has a little bit of travel, experiencing life, travel mishaps, humor, romance, local lore– it was a delight to read. Katie Campbell is a travel writer and embarking on a new adventure for three weeks in Scotland embracing the Edwardian lfiestyle. I loved this atmospheric setting and really gave such a great background for the story. The story blends humor and an emotional journey in such a beautiful way that you really feel for the characters. Both main characters are overcoming loss and dealing with grief. They really seem to be destined to meet and help one another in the best way.
The audiobook is dual narrated by Joshua Manning and Stina Nielsen. Their voices and accents were perfect for this story.

Thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the ARC of this wonderful book! I'm just a wee bit OBSESSED. ;)
There were so many elements to love in this story, from Katie's klutziness to Graeme's grumpy demeanor, from the antics of the "Edwardian experience" to the toe-curling chemistry. I also loved the shared vulnerability in grieving a sibling, and the differences in how they take on challenges. Katie flees the country and never stays still to avoid her mother's expectations and the grief of losing her sister, while Graeme stays close to home with the people he loves most in his own grief. Its truly a testament to the fact that everyone grieves differently, and THAT'S OKAY.
I also appreciated the elements of faith mixed in. I don't recall their ever mentioning any particular religion, but both characters are obviously God-fearing and seek God's counsel in directing their lives. I also loved Lachlan and Mirren(if that's how you spell it, I listened to the audiobook haha), and the family Katie found that she needed so desperately in her mostly-solitary life.
I've had access to the Ebook for a while now, but jumped on the chance to listen to the audiobook as soon as I saw it pop up on NetGalley. I am SO glad I listened to the audiobook, as it just made the Scottish accents and attitudes that much more tangible. The narrators did a wonderful job portraying the voices of Katie and Graeme, and making the latter sound like the "hot Scot" he's meant to be. ;) I cannot wait to return to this delightful story in the future! <3

The fun and quirky mis-happenings of Katie is so adorable and you can’t help but giggle. Especially if you’re a klutz like me.
The story starts with Katie, going to CraigHill house for her blog and she ends up meeting up with Graeme the “hot Scot”. I love how the author threw them together in so many hilarious ways. My favorite part is how the author goes between Katie’s perspective and then Graeme’s. It’s very engaging.
This is a good clean romance and I love that.
I listened to the audiobook as an arc and the Scottish lilts were fantastic.
I would highly recommend this book if you like, clean romance, Scotland, giggling, and happy endings.

I love a character with an accent and I love it even more when it’s an audiobook. Katie Campbell, the leading female character, has just enough quirk and sunshine to make her the perfect match for grumpy Scot (and lead male) Graeme MacKerrow. This was such a fun read, and my first from Pepper Basham. Thank you Thomas Nelson Fiction, Zondervan Fiction Audio, and NetGalley for providing me with an advanced audiobook copy in exchange for my honest thoughts!

Some Like It Scot is the eighth book I have read written by Pepper Basham. Ever since reading Authentically, Izzy, Pepper Basham has become an instant read. I have absolutely loved everything I have read, and some Like It Scot was no exception. I was sucked in from the very start and could not put the book down.
The character development was good. I loved getting to know each character and learning more about each one. Katie was absolutely hilarious. I loved her clumsiness and knack for getting herself into predicaments. It made for the perfect rom-com. Graeme was the perfect grumpy character. I loved getting to see behind the façade and peel back the layers. There were a lot of side characters; at times, it was a little hard to keep them state in my imagination.
The storyline was so fun. I loved that it is set in this Edwardian Experience/B&B in Scotland. Katie being a travel writer, gets invited to experience it all. Little did they know she wasn’t the average girl. The book was very entertaining and funny.
The relationship between Katie and Graeme was sweet. One thing I know I am going to get from Pepper Basham is passionate kisses, and it was present in this book as well. Some scenes were a little on the border for me and my preference. (ie referencing imagining what’s under clothing) scenes can easily be skimmed over. Other than that, clean, low-spice, closed-door romance. I enjoyed the grumpy/sunshine relationship dynamic. It was a fun read for me.
There were faith elements intertwined throughout the novel.
*I received a complimentary copy from the author and voluntarily chose to review it. All opinions are my own.

I read the paperback and then listened to the audiobook to bring this story to life. So fun!
This review may be a jumbled of mess of ramblings because truthfully I loved the story so much I can't figure out how to put that love on the page. Plus I don't want to give too much away. But here you go anyway...
Katie is a traveling blogger, a pun queen, and a source of what I can only assume is bad luck, that she twists into instant fame. She needs this job here in Scotland for her career but also for her personal growth. She's here for an event but also because it reminds her of her Grandparents, the closest thing she had to a "home." Graeme is the owner of the place where the event is taking place, hes also the contractor making the repairs, the Scottish hero ( you'll see why soon enough), the butler lol, a dance partner, and a man who will change Katie's life... but little does she know that just yet. She literally falls into Graemes grumpy arms and from there they instantly butt heads. But there is a thin line between love and hate... and the more time they spend together those feelings soon morph into something more real!
How Pepper Basham manages to have me laughing one second, crying the next, swooning over a Graeme moment, or at the edge of my seat waiting for all the feels... Idk how she does it! I was on an emotional roller coaster, and I did not want to get off! Lol! You all, I just can't sum up this book is words, there are none. I went in looking for a Scottish romance and boy did I get that. But gosh, it also just spoke to my heart a bit, spoke to my faith, my path in life, healing, growth, and moving on. And gosh the two main characters phew... Graeme is grumpy on the exterior but such a sweet soul on the inside. And Katie is so confident and happy on the outside, but she is second-guessing, insecure, and running away from her situation, scared that if she settles down , life will disappoint her again. Both of them are operating on fear, something their loved ones have been telling them they have been doing. But they don't realize it, until they meet each other....
Just for fun....
Random quotes completely out of context:

"I was under the influence of hot Scotness . . . or Scot hotness."

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5/5 Stars (Outstanding)
Setting: Scotland
Genre: Christian Rom-Com
If ever a book deserved to be called a love letter to adventure, Scotland, and the unexpected twists of the heart, Some Like It Scot by Pepper Basham is it! From the first page, I was utterly swept away by Katie Campbell’s vibrant, chaotic, and laugh-out-loud misadventures, set against the breathtaking backdrop of Scotland’s misty moors and craggy coastlines.
Katie is the kind of heroine you can’t help but adore—bold, funny, and wonderfully real. Her enthusiasm for new experiences (despite their inevitable disasters) makes her the perfect contrast to Graeme, the brooding and fiercely loyal Scot whose world is as structured and rooted as hers is wild and untethered. Their chemistry crackles with tension, warmth, and just the right amount of slow-burn romance to keep you turning pages long past bedtime.
And the setting? Pure magic. The immersive Edwardian experience, the rich Scottish folklore, the tartan-clad woodworkers (yes, please!)—every detail transported me straight into the story, making me want to book a flight immediately. The secondary characters, including a scene-stealing macaw and a meddlesome co-worker, add layers of humor and heart that make this novel feel like home.
At its core, this is more than just a romance. It’s a story about belonging—about finding home not in a place, but in the people who see us for who we truly are. With a perfect blend of humor, heart, and sizzling romance, this book is a must-read for anyone who loves a fish-out-of-water adventure, a grumpy/sunshine love story, and a swoony Scotsman who might just steal your heart along with Katie’s.
#netgalley, #somelikeitscot #booked_this_weekend

I love Pepper Basham’s writing so much! It is funny and delightful, but also encouraging and inspiring. I especially enjoyed her focus on beauty and hope after loss. Full of heart and found family, it feels like a warm and comforting hug.
Ideal for anyone who loves Scotland, historical TV series, awkwardness, or unexpected romance.
Huge thank you to NetGalley, Thomas Nelson and Zondervan Fiction Audio for the opportunity to enjoy this audiobook. The narrators were really fantastic!!

Let me just preface this with, I. Am. An. Idiot.
I honestly thought this was a totally different book when I requested it on NetGalley (I thought it was Scot and Bothered by Alexandria Kiley) and did not realize that it was in fact a Christian romance. Which, no shade to anyone who reads that, whatever floats your boat right? But I had no inclination whatsoever to venture there as my religious views have been all over the place as I've grown up. ANYWAY, I didn't figure all of this out until I was approved and then I started to panic a bit. BUT I did see it was narrated by one of my all time favorite narrators, Stina Nielsen so I thought I'd give it a go.
TW: Grief
Katie Campbell has been assigned to visit Scotland for an Edwardian Experience by her boss. As a well known travel writer, Katie has been many places and has gathered a significant online following, but most she's mostly famous for her hiccups and accidents that happen on her travels. Trouble has a way of following Katie wherever she goes but she makes the most of it with lots of humor. Graeme is trying to save enough money to renovate his family's estate home while also caring after his late sister's son. He's 2 years out of an engagment that went wrong right around the time of his sister's death. He's not sure if he's ready to open his heart again until Katie Campbell literally lands on him.
I found Katie's humor so infectious and cute. The way she doubted herself a lot was easy to imagine after the horrible relationship with her parents was revealed. I really felt for her. Graeme was just the right sort of grumpy Scot we needed. He was so yum in how he cared for Katie and how he fed off her humor as well. I loooooved Katie's relationship with Lachlan too, gah he was beyond adorable. Honestly this story was stupid cute! Even if it was labeled as a Christian romance I did not feel like I was preached at, it was very subtle in how it was brought into the story.
Like I said previously, Stina Nielson is a favorite author and she did an excellent job here as expected. I also loved the male narrator, Joshua Manning, his accent was so enticing and I thought he did a great job with his tones and inflections. I will definitely listen to him again!
Overall a really cute romance that could be listened to or read in a day. It was just a nice slice of cozy funny romance that really made me want to visit Scotland someday! Thank you so much to Thomas Nelson and Zondervan Fiction Audio for gifting me this ALC in exchange for an honest review!

I love the clever, lightheartedness of Pepper Basham and the narrators of the audiobook for Some Like it Scot checked every box. It was so fun to go on a Scottish adventure with the characters and I can’t wait to read Basham’s next book.

I loved this rom com!! Think of a grumpy bear meeting the clumsiest new born giraffe and they fall in love over a bunch of “meet cute” moments! Waltzing through the night and my heart!
Not only was this book laugh out loud hilarious, but all characters in this book were so endearing. I can relate to the female MC for her height and “gracefulness”. The author is either a tall woman herself, or is very close to someone who is.
The real MVPs are Lachlan and Wedge!!
Not only is this book a great read full of laughter, it also has the best healing vibes for the loss of a sibling. My heart goes out to @pepperbasham and her loss when she started writing this book in 2021. Loosing your sibling impacted your plan for this book, but I’m a firm believer that everything happens for a reason. This book was beautifully written and the emotions were truly heartfelt.
Please readers, go get this book on April 7, 2025. Especially the audio version produced by Thomas Nelson and Zondervan Fiction Audio.
The narrators @stinanielsen.actor and Joshua Manning were perfect!
Thank you @netgalley for this ARC!!

ALC for Net Galley
I loved the audio on this one. I thought that Joshua Manning (excellent accent) and Stina Nielson did an excellent job of brining Graeme and Katie to life.
This is an amazing story of love lost, tragedy, challenging family dynamics and find a true sense of home. Katie - "Miss Adventure" is an adorable disaster. Graeme is the grumpy Scot who had his heart broken by his fiancé.
His family and community encourage bringing them together and nature takes its course. His nephew Lachlan even does his part.
This book will make you laugh, cry, and give you lots of warm fuzzies.

I loved this audiobook sooo much! This author writes books with me in mind - I just know it! This particular book gave me all the feels. I felt the mis-adventures through and through. I loved the saving and the mending in this story! You need to read this book! You will love it!
Thanks to NetGalley for this opportunity, all opinions and thoughts are my own.

"Life can be hard, humor can be a good weapon to have in defense."
Pepper Basham has done it AGAIN! 💖 Some Like It Scot had me swooning for days with its beautiful, hilarious, and heartfelt story about how genuine kindness and neighborly love can soften even the most guarded hearts. 🥰
Our journey begins with Katie—tall, accident-prone, and a travel writer influencer who has never quite found a place to call home. 🏕️✈️ But her next big story takes her to her ancestral homeland—Scotland! 🇨🇱 And cue the Hallmark music 🎶—because this trip comes with an unexpected bonus: a tall, brooding, irresistibly grumpy Scot named Graeme. 😍💙
Graeme has shut off his heart, but then Katie stumbles (literally) into his world, and suddenly, those walls don’t seem so sturdy. 🏰🔥 Oh, and let’s not forget those lips—because apparently, they make Graeme want to throw away his eyeballs. 👀😂
Both Katie and Graeme are running from painful losses, each with something the other needs. 💔❤️ Will they open their hearts and accept the love waiting for them? Or will the town’s delightfully meddlesome book club (which just so happens to include Graeme’s mom 😏) have to give them a little nudge in the right direction? 📚💘
This book is everything I love about Pepper Basham’s writing—humor, depth, and romance that makes your heart melt. 💕 A perfect blend of laughter, love, and second chances with a Scottish twist. Highly recommend! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This Is Wonderful!
🌷I was expecting a cute romcom with a bit of a Scottish flare but what I got was an amazing story full of funny, chaotic misadventures, a homey family, faith, tons of Scottish language/ scenery and personal growth!
🌷Both of the main characters are wonderful and the side characters are not far behind. From the knitting ladies to a sweet little boy and even a crazy bird every character was written perfectly.
🌷Also the narrators are top notch! They do a fantastic job at bringing the story to life and keep you wanting to know more.
🌷I absolutely adored everything about this book! Highly recommend it as your next read!

"Oh my goodness! I loved this book. So sweet, so beautiful, and so funny! Well written and very enjoyable. Pepper Basham is a new to me author. 5 ⭐️ to her writing. I loved the scottish setting, the folklore, and wonderful Scottish people portrayed in this book. Graeme is the most giant of cinnamon roll heroes. Katie is the most alive and go-with-the-flow ""mis-adventurer."" You will be laughing along with her in all of her scrapes she gets into. While this book is fun it also deals with themes of grief and disconnected parents. It also mentions God and going to church and the characters' faith in Him. It is not ""preachy"" or pushy, simply the characters have faith and it is shown as characteristics of the main characters. There are no swears or alcohol, and level 1 non-descriptive kisses only. Dual first person present POV. I listened to the Audiobook and the dual narrators were superb and did excellent accents. I received a complimentary copy of this audiobook. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. #SomeLikeItScot #NetGalley #ThomasNelsonFiction"

Some Like It Scot is such a refreshing story. Basham's Katie and Graham had me smiling like an "idjit" and laughing out loud. I may have even kicked my feet a time or two. Katie's character reminded me, in some ways, of one of my favorite characters -- Anne of Green Gables. Her exuberance for life, ability to find beauty in the ordinary, and her whimsical musings brought an extra lightness to the already charming story.
I listened to the audiobook, and both narrators were fantastic. The accents were perfect, and they drew me in from the start. I felt like I was listening to friends.
Thank you, NetGalley for allowing me the opportunity to listen/read and review this gem!

Katie Campbell is a travel writer who finds herself falling (quite literally) for handsome Graeme MacKerrow while on assignment in Scotland. Prone to hilarious mishaps, Katie has made her living by sharing her misadventures with readers all over the world and loving every minute of it. She has never had any real desire to settle down or stay put, so why does she find herself warming to the idea of finally finding "home" in Scotland? Perhaps it is because this idyllic little town calls to mind her Scottish grandparents, the only adults in Katie's life who had ever genuinely made her feel loved and cared for. Perhaps it is because her heart has been well and truly captured by the "Hot Scot" along with warm and doting Mirren, boisterous and witty Lachland, and a host of other lovable characters on the charming Isle of Mull.
This book is like a hot cup of tea and a warm hug from a friend. Pepper Basham brings a great mix of hilarity, heartwarming romance, and a healthy dose of faith to Some Like it Scot. I found myself falling in love with the idea of Scotland and this cast of genuine, good-natured people, and I was wholeheartedly rooting for Katie to find her home among them. Some Like it Scot is a Christian romance, so there is no profanity or explicit content. It is a sweet romance story with a little touch of faith sprinkled in. I loved the fact that Basham also included messages of body positivity and reassurance that we all need and deserve a place to belong. My heart is happy!
The audiobook version of Some Like it Scot was wonderful! Stina Nielsen and Joshua Manning truly brought this story to life for me. I appreciated the dialect so much more when I heard it spoken in a Scottish accent. I would absolutely recommend the audiobook version over the text copy. I now fully understand and appreciate Katie's obsession with hearing Graeme call her "lass" 😉

Some Like it Scot by Pepper Basham and narrated by Joshua Manning and Stina Nielsen. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. Thank you to NetGalley, Thomas Nelson and Zondervan Audio and Thomas Nelson Publishing for providing me the opportunity to review an early copy of this audiobook. All of the thoughts and the opinions expressed are my own.
American travel writer and slightly accident prone Katie Campbell traveled to Scotland to take part in an Edwardian program at a manor house. There she met Graeme MacKerrow-by accident-literally. In a series of unfortunate (or fortunate) events, Katie and Graeme are continually in each other’s company. Katie begins to feel the pull of having a home. Graeme begins to feel the pull of having more than his limited life. Both characters have to make some decisions about their futures.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was quintessentially Pepper Basham. This book was brimming with fun and humor. It was very punny! Even with the humor there is an overarching story of dealing with grief. The underlying message was great as well. The message of the love of Christ shows through.
This is my second read/listen of this story. I read an ARC last year and loved it so when I saw it was available on audio I wanted to hear it. I knew the narration would be good. I was wrong! I think it was outstanding! Joshua Manning has the perfect Scottish voice and accent for this story. Stina does an amazing job as Katie. They mesh together beautifully. Their voices kept me engaged from the beginning and I stayed engaged throughout.
If you like clean, humorous love stories, then this will be a great story for you to pick up. If accident prone people and silly people get on your nerves, this may not be the book for you. If duel narrators, especially one with an accent, bothers you then maybe skip this one. #SomeLikeItScot #NetGalley

This was such a good book! A great story about finding your home and loving who you are flaws and all. I listened to the audio book and loved every bit of it!! I loved all the characters! The Scottish accents made it for me! I would read another book by this author!

Some like it Scot
Pepper Basham’s Some Like It Scot is a charming contemporary romance that blends humor, heart, and just a dash of adventure. The audiobook narration, performed by Joshua Manning and Stina Nielsen adds an extra layer of warmth and authenticity to the story. The narrators skillfully capture the distinct Southern and Scottish accents, bringing the characters to life in a way that enhances their personalities. The dialogue feels natural, and the emotional depth of the characters shines through in the performance. The themes of heritage, belonging, and trust are woven seamlessly into the story, making it more than just a love story, it’s also a journey of self-discovery. The scenic descriptions of Scotland add a magical quality, transporting listeners right into the misty Highlands. Would recommend to anyone who is looking for a cozy romantic read.

If all rom coms were this amazing, I’d be reading a whole lot more of them. Basham has crafted a novel with the wit, humor, and romance I expected of a rom com, but the depth of the story and characters were a pleasant surprise that will keep me returning to the story.
Katie and Graeme were an incredible leading couple with their uniqueness and relatability combined with their protection of and care for those around them. As the story progressed, their growth felt natural, and challenged me to look at what lies I might be believing in my own life.
Accompanied by a cast of diverse, funny, and heart-warming characters, Katie and Graeme give us a glimpse of life in Scotland, with just the right amount of whimsy and hilarious experiences to make it memorable. This is a story I’ll be returning to again, both for the laugh-out-loud misadventures and the heart-warming truths about love and life.
The narrators are absolute perfection for this story as well, their voices capturing both Katie and Graeme perfectly, as well as doing a great job of immersing you in the world around them with their different voices/accents for the other characters in the story. I could listen to this on repeat.

Some Like it Scot
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
“ Popular travel writer and podcaster Katie Campbell roams the world collecting other people’s stories. She’s built a career as “Miss Adventure,” known for saying yes to anything new—country, food, or experience—and predictably finding those adventures taking a downward turn into misadventures.”
I really just loved this book. I couldn’t stop listening. The narrators were wonderful especially the male with the Scottish accent. The characters stories had me laughing and crying at times, written beautifully. And as someone who has been to Scotland after reading this book I long very much to go back. The author made you long for it and did capture the at home feeling you have when you are there. And also being a Campbell myself I loved the whole “o watch out if you are a Campbell around here” mood, so very true in some places lol. Highly recommend this one.

What an absolute delight of a book. It was truly refreshing to see a FMC who wasn’t a tiny blonde perfect woman. Katie was a flawed, tall, redheaded relatable character. The relationship she held with her family, with the grief of losing a sibling and how lost she seemed even though she had a successful career was understandable and something many readers may find themselves going through or have gone through in the past. Graham also had many similar traits that were relatable. Their love story was very cute and I liked how both characters came to care for each other despite their initial crazy meeting. Their attraction to each other was well established. I truly loved the Scottish setting and all the small details that were included. Not only did I laugh, but I had all the giddy feels and even teared up a few times. This was a touching portrayal of not just falling in love but finding your place in the world!
The narrators were excellent and I’m not sure if the male narrator is truly Scottish but I would 💯 believe it if not!
Thank you to the publishers and NetGalley for an ALC in exchange for my honest opinion!

Katie and Graeme's story was so much fun to listen to. When I think of a big burly hunk Graeme is exactly who I am thinking of. The natural protectiveness he has over Katie was so swoon worthy and I loved reading about it. It made me so giddy with happiness that she found someone to love her and stand by her side in all her "mid-adventures".

This is my second time reading this book- this time I listened to the audio. It's just as wonderful the second time through- with tears.

I absolutely enjoyed Katie and her #hotscot! I will be adding this to my shell, most definitely. The love story was by far well written. The narrator is one of my favorites and I think she did an amazing job! Thank you for the chance to review.

Happy Sigh!!!! Y'all, this book!!! Soooo good! I know I should think of better descriptive words than "soooo good," but it's very true! I just adored this book so much! Oops, there I go again with the "so's." Sorry, not sorry. I loved this one so much that this is my second read/listen through. Yes, I read it first and then I was given an early audiobook copy and loved being pulled back into this sweet world of Katie Campbell's! She made me smile and cry and laugh! I just adored her character so much. She brought a light with her everywhere she went and helped to lighten the loads of those around her. Especially a really grump Scot. Hahaha! But it just goes to show that she shines brightly that this surly Scot couldn't help but notice and be affected.
Oh my heart!!! I loved every scene with Katie and Graeme in it. And every moment that they are thinking of each other, especially when trying NOT to think of the other.
You'll love the spark and chemistry and tension between these two. As well as the friendship that develops and then continues to grow into a sweet love story. Awwww! These two just compliment each other perfectly. They bring balance to each other. And fill the needs of each other's hearts and souls. Perfection!
The narrators of the audiobooks brought the story to life so beautifully! Their inflections and the emotions that they added made it that much more enjoyable! If you can't tell, I'm hooked and a big fan of this book!
Pick it up and be transported to the beautiful hills and crags of Scotland! You won't want to leave!
Content: Clean. Some sweet kisses but nothing further.
I received a copy from the publisher, Thomas Nelson Fiction, via JustReads, and the audiobook from the producer, Thomas Nelson and Zondervan Fiction Audio, via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.
Happy Reading!!!

Last year I read Loyally, Luke and completely fell in love with @pepperbasham ! So when I saw Some Like it Scot on @netgalley I automatically placed a request!
This book is such a fun, heartwarming read! I absolutely adored Katie’s adventurous spirit (and her knack for getting into mishaps), and Graeme’s gruff but oh-so-sweet personality totally won me over! Their banter had me grinning, and the slow building relationship gave me all the warm fuzzies! But this story really had so much heart, touching on some difficult but very real topics! I loved the aspects of the story like loving yourself, finding your home, healing from loss, and learning to let people in.
And let’s talk about the setting! Pepper’s descriptions of Scotland were absolute perfection and made me want to book a trip ASAP!
With Graeme’s charming nephew and mother, a clumsy Highland Coo, a conniving frenemy, and the perfect cozy small-town feel, this is definitely a book I’d recommend! Watch for its release on April 8th!
*I have to give credit to Pepper for the cute couple pictured in the bottom photo! She has so many fantastic teasers and images on her page! You totally need to go check them all out!
Huge thank you to Netgalley and @thomasnelson & Zondervan Fiction Audio for the opportunity to listen to the advanced audiobook! All opinions are my own.

As I am someone fascinated by certain points in history, I would be all over a real Edwardian Highland experience and that’s just how Katie (love her name 😉) finds herself in Scotland. Is this adventure as amazing as she had hoped it would be? Let’s just say that all that glitters isn’t gold, including a sullen Scot named Graeme, but it did provide a lot of entertainment and I LOVED the narrators.
This slight enemies-to-love vibe is rolled with sugar and spice, creating the most delicious cinnamon roll hero to exist. I adored these characters and their personalities fascinated me.
There are so many opposites with this duo–one longs for home and familiarity while the other aches for exploration; one finds himself a parent to a precocious nephew while the other lives carefree; one is full of sunshine and light and the other is filled with reality and grumpiness. But this story that showcases all things Scotland allows for these characters to bond over a common thread of loss.
Witty connections full of banter and chemistry tie this sweet story together in such a lovely way. I read did thoroughly enjoy the narrators.
Content: mild religion; mild romance; mild moment of peril

This book was adorable! I was in the mood for a cute, heartfelt story and this book fit the bill. I love Pepper Basham's writing and feel impressed with each new book she writes; Some Like It Scot did not disappoint and I highly recommend it.
What I loved in this book the most was the healing and character growth both main characters experience. I thought it was really neat how the author had both characters dealing with grief from losing a sibling and how though they shared a common loss, their experiences and grief were so personal. It really gave a lot of depth to the story.
Even though there were these deeper themes, the humor in this story was spot on. I loved the book club grannies, dear Lachlan with Wedge, and the whole host of memorable secondary characters. The misadventures were hilarious and for me, relatable. I would totally want to follow Katie and her travel stories in real life. The romantic tension between Katie and Graeme was there from the start and boy did I love the way the romance played out and that happily ever after ending. Graeme's grand gesture just made me smile.
I listened to the audiobook version of this novel and wow! Joshua Manning and Stina Nielsen knocked it out of the park. I about melted listening to Manning and the Scottish brogue he gave Graeme. Like I could just put this on and listen to him talk forever. This is one audiobook I'll have on repeat and I completely recommend.
I received an advance listening copy of this book from Netgalley, Thomas Nelson, and Zondervan fiction audio. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This heartfelt story was full of laughs and tears. The author touches on some heavy topics but they are done with funny puns.
We follow Katie a travel writer who doesn’t long to settle down due to not feeling loved by people in her life and dealing with some buried grief. Until she goes on this whimsical assignment and finds a Scot and his family who welcome her with an overwhelming love.
There are a few triggers but they are done with respect and grace:
Grief
Sibling lost
Child lost
Tropes:
Grumpy/Sunshine
He falls first
Damsel in Distress
Tall FMC
Single Parent
I would recommend this to the person looking for a light hearted rom-com full of tough topics and belly laughs.

Any time I can get my hands on a cozy rom com set in Scotland, I'm going to devour it. Even more so if it is an audiobook version narrated by a voice actor with a great Scottish lilt. Enter, Some Like It Scot - with wellies, hairy coos, sheep, and of course, a homey bookshop.
I feel like "Hateful Highlander to Hot Scot" should be a formally recognized romance trope at this point, as it seems to be a common theme amongst the USA/Canadian/UK woman visits Scotland storyline. And I'm here for it. Our FMC, Katie, travels to Scotland for work as a travel writer/blogger entering an Edwardian experience. There are a few mishaps along the way, but they lead Katie to learning more about herself - and about what she wants (perhaps a hot Scot?) out of life. I caught myself laughing a lot, and have even more desire to visit Scotland someday thanks to the settings described by Pepper Basham.
There is mention of faith throughout, which I rather enjoyed, but isn't predominant enough that someone couldn't enjoy it who is not into faith based books.
Joshua Manning and Stina Nielsen did an amazing job with this audiobook! My favorite part about the narration is that they each voiced their own character's lines, even if it was in the others POV. It made it much easier to stay rooted in the storyline throughout, and creates a cohesiveness that I really enjoyed. Since I listened a lot while driving, the contrasting American accent and Scottish accents were absolutely delightful.
Thank you to NetGalley and Thomas Nelson/Zondervan Fiction Audio for an audiobook arc!

I don't think it's possible to be unhappy while reading a Pepper Basham book (unless you dislike kissing books). Yes, Basham covers some HEAVY topics in Some Like It Scot (e.g., the death of a sibling; never earning a parent's favor), but it's in such a tender way with hope in God - and it's always followed by something funny. Like, I snort-laughed-out-loud-while-listening-to-it funny, and I don't usually snort-laugh. It has a lot of improbable scenarios, and is over-the-top in some instances of physical attraction (Katie is rendered speechless by seeing Graeme shirtless). But we are not here for realism; we are here for ridiculous fun and delightful escapism, and Basham delivers! There are cute kids! cute animals! kilts! kindly mother figures! beautiful Scottish scenery! What's not to love?
I am not even typically an audiobook person, but this audiobook was SUPERB. If you are into accents, you should definitely get the audiobook as well.
I recommend this to other Christian readers who enjoy romcoms and are okay with a lot of swoon and sizzle in their stories (but no open-door spice).
Thank you to NetGalley and Thomas Nelson for the free eARC! I post this review with my honest opinions. This review is crossposted on Goodreads and will be posted on Amazon and Instagram within a week of the book’s publication.

First off, kudos to narrators Joshua Manning and Stina Nielsen for their stellar performances. This story is magnificent all on its own but it rises to a whole other level as an audio book. They convey all the drama and humour with the kind of feeling that leads me to believe they enjoyed the story as much as I did and that increased my ‘reading’ pleasure all the more.
So, what can I say about this story other than it’s sheer brilliance in every way. Humour. Faith. Emotional depth. Quirky characters. All woven together into an incredible love story that had me laughing one moment and close to tears the next.
And, much like Katie, I was in a constant state of ‘human combustion of emotion’ because of a certain amount of ‘hot Scotness or Scot hotness.’ Their meet-cute is hysterically appropriate for a Pepper Basham rom/com. Especially since Katie has a unique radar for trouble no matter what country she’s currently traveling through.
Her ‘surly Scot’ is classically brooding though a tender heart beats beneath that brawny, gruff exterior. Personalities clash even as sparks fly and I happily settled in for what I knew would be an exceptional read.
Discovering emotional depth in the midst of riotous bedlam was an extra bonus. Our hero and heroine have suffered similar loss, though they’ve dealt with it in different ways. Basham compassionately tackles the power grief holds – to draw people closer or push them apart. And the hope that comes from finding your place in an accepting community.
‘Some Like it Scot’ is a definite must read (or listen) for discerning romance readers who enjoy savouring every last drop of deliciousness in a profound love story.
My thanks to Thomas Nelson, Zondervan Fiction Audio and Net Galley for providing me with an audio edition of this book.

Some Like It Scot was an absolute delight! The romance was swoon-worthy, the characters were lovable, and the setting was breathtaking. Pepper Basham perfectly blended humor, heart, and passion into a story that had me hooked from start to finish. A truly charming and unforgettable read

Pepper Basham is one of my favorite authors. She writes the kind of books where I find myself smiling or giggling as I'm reading. And that's just what I got in Some Like it Scot!
Katie, a travel writer, meets grumpy Graeme when she goes to Scotland to immerse herself for a three-week Edwardian experience. The setting is perfect and so is their romance. They both have things they're dealing with and they learn how love can help one another learn and grow. It was just so sweet and so much fun!
Many thanks to NetGalley for the opportunity to read/listen to the audio book and review. Joshua Manning and Stina Nielsen did a wonderful job narrating! All opinions are my own.
Publication date: 8 April 2025

Oh my word. You know the book is good when you finish, you are crying happy tears.
This slow burn rom com was so delicious. Katie’s humor and enthusiasm is a joy. Graeme’s care of Katie and his love for his family is lovely.
They both have walked through the losing of a loved one but their experiences are so unique. Watching them grow through their experiences helped me with my own.
The audiobook version was so charming. I love that Katie and Graeme each had a voice actor in for their chapters.
I can’t wait to share this book with my family and friends. I received an advanced copy of this book. The review and thoughts are my own.

I love, love, love this book! It had the right balance of humor and romance. It was not sappy and it was not filthy. It was a wonderful read. Who doesn't want to cozy up to a book about meeting a well built Scottish ginger? It made me want to immediately book a trip to Scotland. I couldn't decide who I pictured as Graham (the main male character), should he be Sam Heughan (as season 1 Jamie Frazier) or Gerard Butler? The narrators were so talented. I am always in awe of those who can switch accents as they read. I loved every minute of the read, I hope you will too!

Absolutely loved this! This is perfect for someone who loved the idea of Austenland and an escape to a getaway where you can live in a different time period. I wish there was a little more about that experience since Katie was there to write about it. But I loved her character growth and her budding romance with Graeme. The idea of home being a place you always come back to and not the place you’re stuck in was so special. The narrators were awesome too!

Going into a book knowing it promises a happily ever after comes with certain expectations, and this one absolutely delivers on every level. Our leading lady is an American travel writer whose entire brand revolves around chaos—so much so that her series is called Misadventures. No trip ever goes according to plan, and that’s exactly what makes her experiences so entertaining. When she gets the chance to spend three weeks in an immersive historical experience, she’s all in—until, of course, she finds herself tangled up with a swoon-worthy Scotsman. But love isn’t as simple as storybook endings, especially when both parties carry their own doubts, fears, and deep-seated beliefs about what they’re willing to change for someone else. What follows is a whirlwind of attraction, tension, and, of course, plenty of miscommunication.
This book has everything I could want in a love story—heartache, self-discovery, and a romance that keeps you rooting for the characters despite all their obstacles. The setting is beautifully described, making the town and its surroundings feel as immersive as the historical experience itself. Every moment felt rich with emotion, from the lighthearted mishaps to the deeper, more vulnerable conversations. It’s the kind of read that sweeps you up and leaves you with a full heart by the end. If you’re looking for a charming, feel-good romance with just the right amount of adventure, this one is a must-read!

Wow! What a wonderful read! This is not the first book I have read by Pepper Basham and it will certainly not be the last, but I will just say that it definitely rises to the title of “one of my favorites.” I read the physical book and listened to the audiobook and both were winners. The narrators of the audiobook were top notch. I mean, who can resist an accent?
This book is filled with many of the things that I appreciate about Basham’s writing – her delightful sense of humor, her unique and varied characters, and her love of family and relationships. The concept of “home” is clearly presented in this novel and I was engrossed in this part of the story.
I highly (See what I did there?) recommend this fun “trip” to Scotland with Katie and Graeme!
I reviewed this book through NetGalley. All opinions are my own.
