This was a book full of great information. It was very easy to read and I would highly recommend it.

No matter how many wine weekends I go to or how many times I pretend I know what I’m doing while ordering a glass, the truth is...I still have so much to learn about wine. Uncorked: Wine Without the Bullshit was the perfect place to start.
Andrew Fenwick manages to be hilarious, honest, and informative. It’s like having a very funny, very wine-savvy friend walk you through all the stuff you’re too embarrassed to ask about. This is the kind of book that makes you feel more confident without taking itself too seriously.
Thanks to Thirsty Dog Press and NetGalley for the ARC!

Definitely worth a read if you're new to wine. Lots of humor with a lot of good info.
I've been interested in wine for over 50 years -- living in Northern California for 18 years and Washington state for 25 years. Between my own experimentation with purchasing wine -- including visiting wineries, attending tasting events, and traveling -- I've determined what I like and generally where it comes from. I'm no expert, but I've been at this for awhile and have found some amazing wines from all over the world.
My only quibble is the author's repeated message that sommeliers are useless idiots. I've met dozens of sommeliers, some that were overbearingly pretentious, but many who are truly interested in helping me find a good wine. It's easy to figure out which ones are only trying to make you (the customer) look foolish -- the rest are sincerely helpful. I've made it my life's mission to purchase the best wines I can find for less than $20 per bottle, and have had great success. Most sommeliers I've dealt with have been excited to help me find those inexpensive treasures.
Apart from that, the book provides excellent guidance on reducing or eliminating the feeling of incompetence in interacting with wine, all with a heavy dose of humor. Still worth 5 stars.

Uncorked: Wine Without the Bullshit is the wine guide I didn’t know I needed. It strips away the snobbery and gets real about wine in a way that’s not only informative, but genuinely funny. I appreciated how it gave me useful tips—like how to fake wine confidence without breaking the bank—without ever making me feel dumb or out of my depth. I laughed, I learned, and I now feel way less anxious ordering wine in public. Definitely a keeper on my shelf.

I thought this was a very informational book for wine drinkers, new and veteran. As someone who just started her wine journey but has had a lot of education in a short period (WSET2, CSW in a year) plus is opening a wine shop, I felt this spoke to a lot of the eccentricities and snobbery of the wine industry that turns many away. I appreciated the wit with layered education, it’s approachable but informative. I think a reader who is interested in how wine works but intimidated by the attitude of many in the biz would appreciate this book. I also think those who know a good bit already will find the tongue in cheek approach nuanced while still providing good education. I wish it was a bit more visual (note: I have an ADR so publisher may update this later) but overall I enjoyed it and find it a valuable read for wine lovers of every level.

Y’ALL. This book is like your wine-loving bestie who tells it to you straight, cracks jokes the whole time, and somehow makes you feel like a total boss with a corkscrew. I snorted coffee out of my nose at least twice (ironic, I know), but more importantly—I actually learned stuff. Real stuff. Like how not to drown in a wine list and how to fake it with flair when someone starts talking about “mouthfeel.” If you’ve ever felt clueless in a wine shop, this book is your cheat code. 🍷😎

This book is actually hilarious. Surprisingly so. And I learned a lot. It helps to take some of the pretentiousness aware from the learning of wine

I’m 25 years old and work in the spirits industry, and one of my goals for 2025 is to become more knowledgeable about wine. I read this book in ONE SITTING!!! I feel like wine guides tend to lean on the pretentious side, but this one was literally perfect! The book actually engaged me and made me want to read more, rather than spitting facts at me and making me feel stupid. It was a blend between wine history, general facts, and genuine comedy. Every chapter had a hilariously clever title, and yet they were all packed with such valuable information. I feel like I learned at least 1 new thing in every chapter, and there is something for everyone in there. It doesn’t matter if you like drinking alone, or you want to impress friends at a dinner party, there’s something in there for you. I will 100% be recommending this to friends, and if this author ever decides to make a part 2 or a deeper dive, I will 100% read that as well. This is genuinely the first book on wine that I actually enjoyed reading!!!
