Nothing that this author writes is disappointing! Again with another great read that is a page turner and keeps you on your toes! Great read!
In NEVER DIE ALONE, Lisa Jackson puts a new twist on the serial killer genre. The "21 Killer" has returned; he targets only twins about to celebrate their 21st birthday. This means the man convicted of the previous killings could be innocent. A thriller that fans of Lisa Jackson will enjoy.
Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC
Great book, thrilling from start to finish. Lisa Jackson is always a favourite author of mine! Would recommend to others for sure.
(I received a free copy of this book from Net Galley in exchange for an honest review.)
It should be the best day of their lives. Too bad they never get to see it. On the cusp of their twenty-first birthday, he strikes. His victims are always twins, their ritualistic murders planned in exquisite detail, down to the moment when they breathe their last together…
A possibly innocent man is in prison, and Brianna Hayward needs to convince the New Orleans police. Not just to free her cousin, but to save others who will suffer until the true culprit is found. Reporter Jase Bridges is intrigued. It’s a story that could make his career—as long as Brianna never guesses the secret in Jase’s past…
Detective Rick Bentz had doubts about the “21” conviction when he worked the case in L.A. Now the real murderer may be loose in Bentz’s backyard. Twin sisters from All Saints College have vanished on the eve of their twenty-first birthday. And as Bentz and his partner, Reuben Montoya, desperately follow the trail, a killer prepares to unite his next victims in death forever…
*2.5 stars*
This is the eighth book in this series featuring Rick Bentz and his partner, Reuben Montoya. I think this is the fourth one that I have read...
I guess the problems with series like these is that it must be hard to find something new for your characters to do. The premise in this story was an interesting idea - a killer who targeted twins right before their 21st birthday. I thought there may have been enough in that story to carry this book all the way but it just didn't quite make it.
The biggest issue I had with the story is that, while it is billed as a Bentz/Montoya novel, they were surprisingly absent through a lot of the book. And even when they did make an appearance, there was just a sense of disinterest - like the author had this great idea for a new novel but didn't think she could really sell it without including the two detectives.
But I really think she could have...but now we will never know. And that's sad that it ended up being a book that got bogged down, not really knowing what it was supposed to be...
