This is a very appealing book, visually. But theologically, it is lacking, perhaps even bordering on dangerously inaccurate. There is no mention of what sin or why we need to repent. There is only a vague allusion to wrong ways of living. Therefore, there is no strong case for Jesus needing to die for our sins and no salvation message. It's a feel-good story, leaving one with the impression that everyone will go to Heaven and be with God forever, which is not accurate theology. Kids in the target age range (4-8 years) can understand these concepts. There is no need to white-wash them or water them down for kids. It's not pleasant to discuss sin or death as the punishment for sin, but kids clearly see sin at work in their lives and the lives of others. As harsh as the Gospel may seem on the surface, it is actually life-giving, and kids deserve to know what the Bible really says.

I received this book for free from the author, the publishers, and NetGalley in exchange for my unbiased review.
