Well put together! Not what or who you would think and that's what makes it even better! Attention grabber and keeper and on the edge of the seat read!
Thanks so much to the publisher and to NetGalley for giving me access to this book. Our patrons love a good psychological thriller. I felt this would be great for our collection of suspense novels. I will be recommending this novel to many of the patrons who are asking for suggestions.
As usual Burton has excelled herself with this one. A rich combination of thriller and romance that keeps you on your toes till the end. Delightful characterisation , a grueling cat and mouse and tension aplenty. This is a good read which I thoroughly enjoyed. Recommended for those who like a dash of romance with your gritty crime thrillers
I really struggled to connect with this book and as a result I didn’t finish it . I had tried to read it a second time but unfortunately I was still unable to enjoy it.
Leah Carson's husband stabbed her 23 times in the name of love. He had abused her enough, she moved out. He got angry ... very angry. It was like "if I can't have you, no one will have you'.
Four years have passed. Leah has moved on... made much easier by her husband's death. She is now a veterinarian and trusts animals much more than people ..especially men. Because she had been stalked for months before he tried to kill her, she still journals, listing anything that seems out of line. She never saw her husband's body and when strange things begin to happen, she can't help but wonder if he really died.
The only person who half-way believes her is Tennessee Bureau of Investigation Agent Alex Morgan. So has her husband come back to haunt her ...or is this a new stalker?
Mary Burton writes some of the best Romantic Suspense around ... heavier on the suspense, lighter on the romance. There are twists and turns and roller coaster rides. You get good cops .. bad cops ... people who lie...people with secrets.
Highly recommend to anyone who loves Romantic Suspense.
This one worked for me on all levels! I loved Leah and Alex and the story of their developing relationship. The suspenseful storyline captured my attention and held it throughout the book. I thought the balance of romance and suspense was perfect. This is my favorite book by the author to date, and I look forward to more of the series.
4.5 stars for I'll Never Let You Go by Mary Burton.
'Till death do us part.'
Some people take their marriage vows more seriously than others. Leah's husband Philip is one of them.
After stabbing Leah 23 times, Philip is declared dead following a car accident.
But 4 years later, strange things are beginning to happen again.
Leah has a mantra 'He's gone. He can't hurt me. I'm safe. '
But deep down, she doesn't believe it.
Mary Burton has struck exactly the right balance in this deftly written thriller. There is a little romance, but not too much. There are plenty of twists and turns in the plot; none of them obvious. She kept me guessing, and reading.
And she is going to keep me reading. This is the second book I have enjoyed from this author and I will be looking for more.
NB: Although this is the third book in The Morgans of Nashville series it works perfectly well as a stand alone.
Thank you to Kensington Books via Netgalley for providing a digital copy of I'll Never Let You Go by Mary Burton for review.
The mystery was brilliant with loads of red herrings to keep me guessing! The main characters and their romance were more of a problem and dropped this from a 5 star read to a 3.
Leah was nice but damaged. It was more than understandable but she was so closed off that there was no progression in her attraction and romance with Alex, it just kind of lurched from one event to the next without any supporting thoughts or feelings from her to back it up. As for Alex, I pretty much knew as much about him at the end as I did in the beginning. He is described as stoic and an iceman and this remains true throughout and very little of his feelings are revealed even in his private thoughts.
* Minor Spoiler *
Even the epilogue showed hardly any affection between them, and considering it was set 4 months after the main story there seemed to have been no progression in their relationship.
All in all I thought this part of the story was a missed opportunity as if the romance had been handled better then this would have definitely been a 5 star read but as it is I would recommend it to those looking for a solid mystery, but avoid if romance holds equal billing in your requirements.
