I'm not typically a "health nut." I live on a diet of Red Bull and cigarettes. I'm nearly 30 and I still eat Lunchables and Chef Boyardee. However, I am always interested in trying new foods and I'm already a big fan of many of the popular "superfoods" in this book - including seeds, nuts, and broccoli. I also recently tried sweet potato for the first time after years of refusing to try it and loved it. So I figured I'd give this book a shot.
There is a section at the start that goes over the health benefits and suggested meal plans. I did think this section was very informative but I feel like it could have been organized visually and with possibly a chart of the vitamins and nutrients and their benefits since many of the different ingredients have similar benefits (This is mostly personal preference, as I always find non-fiction more interesting and entertaining when visually appealing).
The next section of the book contains the recipes, split up into sections like breakfast, entree, and, of course, dessert. All of the recipes are vegan, but the pictures of the foods look delicious and filling, so you may not even realize the meat is missing. The recipes are simple, so you could of course add your own twists or add meat/dairy to them if that's a deal-breaker for you. I found many of the recipes appealing as they are twists on popular foods we already love, such as brownies, cheesecake, and mac and cheese. As I said before, I'm not what I would consider a super adventurous eater, so I like when "healthy" cookbooks make the food more accessible to "less sophisticated" palates. I copied down a handful of the recipes and can't wait to try them!
