I love military romances, but this one was a little tough. The sacrifice and devastation of wartime tragedy was heart wrenching, yet I still found myself upset at Josh the second half of the book, and at Ember too for wanting to put him first and above her own self. However, it was realistic, more so for a young couple in their first serious relationship.
This is the riveting conclusion to the Flight & Glory series and Rebecca Yarros doesn't make it easy on us. There are so many emotions that come to the surface, especially with this being the last book in the series. The intensity of this story made it feel so real. There are parts of the book that I read while literally sitting on the edge of my seat. I grieved with these characters and I applauded their honor and their bravery. I celebrated with these characters and captured a glimpse into their future and I don't regret a minute I spent with them. If you are already a fan of these characters you will enjoy seeing some familiar faces.
I always loved Josh and Ember's story but I forgot how much until I was with them again. These two together are an amazing couple. They've worked so hard to get where they are, both personally and professionally, and now it's time for them to own up to their "us against the world" mentality. I just felt this book brought Ember and Josh full circle.
If you enjoy military heroes I urge you to read this series. You will be hard pressed to find many that do it better than this author. I will certainly miss these characters but I am certainly looking forward to what will be next!
