Description
Josh Walker is loyal, reckless, and every girl’s dream. But he only has eyes for December Howard, the girl he has yearned for since his high school hockey days. Together they have survived grief, the military, distance, and time as they’ve fought for stolen weekends between his post at Ft. Rucker and her schooling at Vanderbilt. Now that Josh is a medevac pilot and Ember is headed toward graduation, they’re moving on—and in—together.
Ember never wanted the Army life, but loving Josh means accepting whatever the army dictates—even when that means saying goodbye as Josh heads to Afghanistan, a country that nearly killed him once before and that took her father. But filling their last days together with love, passion, and plans for their future doesn’t temper Ember’s fear, and if there’s one thing she’s learned from her father’s death, it’s that there are some obstacles even love can’t conquer.
Flight school is over.
This is war.

I thought this book was the cherry on top of the Flight and Glory series sundae! The author wrapped up the series beautifully, giving us glimpses into all of our favorites lives, while centering the book around Josh and Ember. Ember always hoped she would never have to be in her mother's shoes, but when service men come to her door she knows her life will be forever changed. I don't want to say any more than that so not to spoil the plot of the book. But this book is not a stand alone. I would strongly suggest reading the first three books in the series first. You will not be disappointed!
"You are my dream now, December Howard. You are everything to me. My heart beats for you , my soul is only whole when you're near. You're my home, my shelter, my wildest fantasy, and I can not imagine a future where you're not mine, because I'm yours in every sense of the word."
"You and me?" he whispered against my lips. "Against the world," I promised. And what a beautiful world it was. Our world.
I have been a fan of the Flight & Glory series ever since I picked up Full Measures. And with each book, I have fallen more in love with the characters and their stories. So, when I heard about Hallowed Ground and that we were getting more Josh and Ember, I just knew I had to read it. What I didn't know was how much this book was going to effect me. I haven't been able to stop thinking about Hallowed Ground since I finished it. Hallowed Ground took me on such an incredible journey; one that I wasn't expecting. It was beautiful and heartbreaking. There were moments where I felt like my heart was being ripped out of my chest and I hurt so much for what the characters were going through. But, I have to tell you, their story; it was worth it. It was worth every moment that I had to walk away. It was worth every moment when I felt like I was going to throw my kindle. It was worth every moment where I had tears in my eyes. It was worth every moment that I fell in love and had my heart broken.
Hallowed Ground is well-written and utterly captivating. Just when I thought I couldn't love these characters anymore, Rebecca Yarros has proved me wrong. She has found a way to make me connect so deeply to these characters that I feel as though they are a part of me. She made the characters so real and their emotions so palpable. I felt like I was experiencing everything right along with them. And along the way, these characters found a way to burrow themselves deep into my heart. Yes, this is supposed to be Josh and Ember's story, but it so, so much more.
I will not go into any of the details of this story, but I will say this: Have tissues handy. Be prepared for a wild, emotional ride. Be prepared to have your mind consumed with this story. This book is everything and has easily made it to my list of top reads for 2016. If there is one book/one series that you should read this year, I highly recommend that you check out this Flight & Glory series by Rebecca Yarros. You will not be disappointed.
