Hmm, well there are 2 things that are absolutely certain to me after finishing this book. 1) I’ll be thinking on it for a few days, and 2) Detroit is not the kind of place you wanna be out gallivanting after dark. Especially in a Jaguar.

The book is called Silent Sentry, and the novel opens with a man watching over Gianna at her father’s funeral. He is obviously there looking out for her safety. Needless to say, I thought this “sentry” would be a main part of the novel, seeing as it’s basically named after him. Interestingly enough, although he ends up playing a major role, he really isn’t in the book at all! He’s seen in the background in a few scenes, and at the end we find out the connection as to why he’s protecting Gianna, but other than that? Not much! Honestly, I was kind of hoping for a bit more. He seemed like such an interesting character during that first scene, that I really wanted him and Gianna to have an actual conversation at some point.

Our lovely couple of Gianna and Joe is an interesting mix. He’s a life-saving doctor, and she’s created an invention which will revolutionize hospital care. However, aside from their rather impressive resumes, they’re far from perfect. They’re both pretty stubborn, and constantly butt heads throughout a large chunk of the novel.

This was one of those books where so much focus was placed on the drama and mystery side of the story, but I think a tad more integration of them falling in love would’ve been helpful. We are constantly questioning the details surrounding the hacker of Gianna’s invention, the mystery of her father’s death, as well as the death of Joe’s first wife. But before you know it the two are planning their wedding. Um, where did that come from? I think at one point I even asked, “Wait, do they actually like each other?”

This novel is full of twists and turns, but not the kind you’d expect, which was refreshing. It’s not like you thought the story would go one way, and then it ends up going another. No, instead it has more to do with the twists we encounter in life, both good and bad.

I personally thought there were almost too many stories taking place in one novel. We’ve got hackers, murders, mafia, business dealings, and romance all rolled into one. All of the stories kind of connect, but I think it would’ve been much more poignant to just focus on one exciting plot line. There were plenty to choose from after all! But after a while it was almost like sensory overload.

The author describes this book as a suspense novel with a touch of romance. I describe this book as a romance novel with a touch of suspense.
If you like romance, it’s okay. If you like well done suspense, look elsewhere. The book focuses on the two main lovers, who are described in great detail. Their characters are two dimensional:
The female protagonist is a trained nurse with world class computer coding skills. She’s so brilliant that she’s critical to her company that her partner can’t keep up with her. If something happens to her, he’d never be able to support the program by himself. She’s also very guilt driven, she believes that anything that happens to anyone else is her fault.
Her knight in shining armor is a surgeon who seems to have a flexible enough schedule to drop everything to come to her aid. He even gets into fights to defend her. I’ve never heard of a surgeon who would risk his hand for anything. He devolves into a typical hero in a romance novel.
The villains are vague.
This author could use a good editor. Given that the name of the publishing company is the same as the author’s last name, I doubt she hired a professional editor to review the book.
I cannot recommend this book.

Gianna’s company is just a short time away from launching a new invention with applications that are endless. It could very well revolutionize how quickly and efficiently patients are treated. The problem is the patent is still pending. She’s prepared to do just about anything to make sure nothing stands in the way of the launch, even if that means keeping a little information out of a police report.

Break-ins, hospital visits, and murder all play a role in this fast paced read. However, the real root to the story is Gianna and Joe’s attraction. Surprisingly her trip to the hospital brings Gianna right smack in the middle of Joe’s life. The whole embarrassing situation doesn’t keep past feelings for Joe from surfacing. As much as she would like for this all to be over, the web has already weaved its way into both their lives.

Will they be able to find out who is behind it all before someone else gets hurt? Will the past keep Joe from letter Gianna in? Or will his overwhelming feeling to keep her safe bring them together? Find out the answers to these questions in so much more in this action packed story.

Thanks to the author for providing a copy in exchange for an honest review. I’m looking forward to reading more from Theresa Rizzo. Enjoy!
