As an avid crocheter, I am always interested in learning new techniques, and this was NO different! Learning how to do all these different edgings was great, and I found a couple new favorites in this book!

This was the first Edie Eckman book I've interacted with and definitely not the last. One of my favorite projects now after reading this book is buying cute fleece blankets (you know, those ones you can get at walmart for less than $3?!) And adding cute crochet borders on them!

Loved this book. I've been crocheting for two years and this was very clear and easy to follow.

Great variety of edging and all skill levels included.

We will include this on a blog post about crafting over June 2017.

It's taken me longer than expected to review this, but that also meant I was able to use several of these borders for various projects! The photos in this are great and really give you a good idea of what the border will look like!

The patterns themselves are well-written and there is a lot of variety here, which is exactly what you would want from a book like this!

For anyone that wants to try borders on crochet work or items, this book explains the working very clearly. At the start there is some chapters on the elements of crochet borders and how they impact with the use various wools, colour, scale and shape. It also explains how to get round corners neatly and with easy. There is a FAQ part as well, I found this part of the book really worthwhile.
The book then gets into the workings of different edges and how to work them, there are 145 of them , some very unusual and others traditional but all remind us of the variation and how they can enhance our projects.
The book ends with information on how to execute stitches and how to read patterns.
I felt this to be an excellent book for anyone interested in finishing a project, either crochet, knitted or sewn.

I've purchased a number of crochet books by Edie Eckman over the years. Her work is so well done and so informative that if I see she has a new book, I immediately pre-order it. I keep most of her books within arm's reach from my crochet “nook” where I do most of my projects. If I have a question, it is sure that I will find an answer in that set of books.

“Every Which Way Crochet Borders” is a wonderful resource for me. I have added borders to receiving blankets for years. I buy the cute flannel print fabric, serge it, and then crochet a border using cotton thread. I have six go-to borders and thought that was enough. Once I got this book, my go-to borders are simply considered “elements” in this book versus the unusual and beautiful border patterns that are included. I'll be having a lot of fun adding new borders to the blankets and I am also inspired to add them to scarves, wraps, and afghans as well. There is a picture of a necklace that I want to try, too. I only wish the pattern had been included but I will figure it out – I plan to use Spangle yarn for that project.

Between the numbered borders and the element borders, there are 139 borders in this book. Ms. Eckman details the types of use of borders, how colors work, how the weight of the yarn makes a difference and more. I especially appreciate the pages which show examples of the same border stitched with different color/weight of yarn. It visually shows how the various components of design can effect the overall look of the project.

The crochet terms are in US standard and each of the patterns are presented in both written and symbol charts. The book is a hardback with an interior spiral binding. This is great as the spiral is not exposed and won't snag any yarn at hand. In addition to the explanation pages at the front of the book and the patterns (with full color example photos), there is an appendix with an explanation of reading crochet patterns both written and symbols(great for beginning crocheters), a stitch key of written and symbol equivalents, a table of attributes (gives a visual checklist of each border), a border directory (color photo thumbnails of all 139 borders with page number), and a glossary with illustrations of many types of crochet stitches.

This is a book that I will use extensively and one that I will be including as a holiday gift this year for family and friend who crochet.

In addition to the copy of this book I purchased on Amazon, I was provided a temporary digital advance reader copy of this book by the publisher via Netgalley.

Received an advance reader copy in exchange for a fair review.
Thanks to NetGalley and Storey Publishing for the opportunity to read and review Every Which Way Crochet Borders: 139 Patterns for Customized Edgings by Edie Eckman! Detailed instructions and close up photos describe the different borders well. Definitely for intermediate and above crocheters! This helpful book even includes the different ways to crochet around fleece or other materials and the tools available - a skip blade rotary cutter to cut holes in the fabric or a sharp ended crochet hook specially designed to poke the holes before crocheting. Easy to follow instructions and a photo accompany each direction and make this book a must for creative crocheters. A huge variety of border patterns with accompanying photos and illustrations of each pattern and complete, thorough directions. The appendix has a stitch key, reading crochet symbols key and a photo index of the crochet patterns contained in this book - 5 stars for a comprehensive instructional text!

An excellent crochet guide, absolutely crammed full with information. With an in-depth introduction, colour theory, details of different yarns types, customising borders, troubleshooting and a big glossary, there's a wealth of knowledge without even looking at the patterns themselves!

The border designs are beautiful and some of them are just stand-out amazing, I could spend all day just flicking back and forth looking at them all! From small to big, solid to lacy, textured to fringed, scallops to hearts, there's definitely a border pattern for your project in here.
I'm a moderately skilled crocheter, but I admit that some of these patterns at first glance made my mind boggle! But with the clear written instructions, diagrams and great photographs, any of the borders are achievable with a bit of patience and practice for all skill levels.

I can't wait to try some of them out for myself, the only problem is going to be choosing which one!

As a crocheter not yet a pro, I am constantly trying to find ways to make my work look more interesting. This is a great tool for making your crocheted works not only look interesting, but complete as well. There are many different varieties you can choose from so that you can find the best fit for your project. Not only that, but the instruction are clear and easy to read, even for someone who still has trouble reading patterns. The author doesn't just give you patterns either. She adds troubleshooting, tips and tricks, and crystal clear images so you know what your work is suppose to look like.

I highly recommend this book as the perfect companion for an crocheter to add something extra.

This is an incredible resource book for anyone (crocheters, knitters, sewers, etc.) who uses crochet borders. This subject sounds so mundane, but borders are vitally important in fiber arts crafting.

This book delivers in a big way. Ms. Eckman is so clear in her explanations and descriptions along with the excellent photos and illustrations. I am mainly a knitter, but I use crochet borders in my knitting and this book vastly expands my repertoire of edge finishes.

A must have for any respectable fiber arts resource library. Great book - I highly recommend it for anyone who wants to learn how to make crocheted borders.

Crocheting is something I love to do… there’s nothing like the feeling of taking a hook and a few skeins of yarn and transforming it into something beautiful. And what it is that enhances the beauty of crocheted creations? You guessed it… a pretty border!

I’m not creative (or knowledgeable enough) to dream up my own patterns, so books like this one are extremely useful to me. I have a small collection of crochet pattern books that I look to for inspiration for my next afghan, etc. but none of them had a dedicated section on borders, so I was excited to see what this book had to offer. It’s so much more than merely a book of patterns, however. The chapter about design concepts gives tons of useful information, from choosing borders that will either complement or contrast the main body of your project (and what that means) to the importance of border size, the colors you choose, and even the type of yarn you use. You’ll also find instruction on how to add a crocheted border onto a fleece blanket, for example—something I never even thought about doing!

With 138 patterns to choose from, shown in beautifully colorful photographs, you’re sure to find a border you’ll fall in love with. Each one is precisely detailed and illustrated, with notes on how to do specific stitches. The appendix includes information on how to read crochet patterns—which is useful for people like me who can’t always remember all the stitch symbols—as well as an illustrated glossary… which is perfect for deciphering things like “Dc2tog over 3 sts” for those of us who often forget the meaning of certain abbreviations.

This is definitely a book any crochet enthusiast would find beneficial, and would be a lovely addition in your crochet book collection.
