Thank you so much Netgalley for the advance reader's copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
4 stars.
Slow Burn is the 2nd book in the Colorado High Country series. This book was addictive and a steamy read.
Thank you so much for the opportunity to review this book and to be an early reader via NetGalley! However, I will not be writing a review for this title at this time, as my reading preferences have since changed somewhat. In the event that I decide to review the book in the future, I will make sure to purchase a copy for myself or borrow it from a library. Once again, thank you so much for providing me with early access to this title. I truly appreciate it. Please feel free to contact me with any follow-up questions or concerns.
I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. Hot, hot, hot, this fire firefighter knows how to heat things up. Great characters, spicy scenes, and a well-written storyline are making me want to read more by author Pamela Clare.
ARC received for review
"Firemen are my favorite color." Vic makes no secret she thinks Eric is hot, but a past mistake has her taking her time with hooking up. Eric really is HOT and sexy. Love sneaks up on both of them. Loved seeing all the old peeps again. Can't wait to see who falls next.
I love reading books by Pamela Clare and this one was no exception. Eric and Vic are such well developed characters you feel as if you really know and understand them. This was a book I did not want to put down.
Hot hot hot! Sexy fireman Eric doesn’t disappoint! His chemistry with Victoria is sizzling! Loved it!
OMG LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE
This is the first book by this author that I've read but it definitely won't be the last! I loved this book! The book opens with Vic and Eric meeting in the most hilarious was possible (open foot insert mouth) and takes you through their anything but predictable friendship and romance.
I loved that Vic was mature enough to recognize what she wanted and didn't want and that she knew what she could do without. I loved Eric...just loved him! He fought so hard against what he wanted that it was enjoyable to watch unfold.
An amazing story! Can't wait to read what's next for this series!
Love Pamela Clare and her charming and sizzling love stories!!!!
And as a master of writing prowess, she creates Eric Hawke and Victoria Woodley with enough passion and fire to burn the sheets as hot as the fire that Eric plays with.
Loved it!
This was a wonderful follow up to the first Colorado High Country book. It had wonderful characters that I could relate to, a very interesting storyline, and a great setting. Clare's books are always fantastic, and that was certainly true with this one!
Slow Burn
Colorado High Country Series - Book 2

September 2016
Contemporary Romance
Victoria Woodley had been to Scarlet Springs before. She had come trying to convince her best friend Lexi not to fall for the man who had once broken Lexi's heart, and to remind her that her home was in Chicago. Things hadn't worked out quite as planned. She'd met a sexy stranger that she'd flirted with at the airport. He'd told her that he was there to stop some guy who was coming to break up his best friend and the woman he loved. The stranger turned out to be one of Lexi's friends, Eric Hawke. Even more shocking was that Lexi had chosen not to return to Chicago, and had indeed stayed in Scarlet Springs.
And now Lexi was marrying her first love, Austin. Vic was returning to Scarlet Springs for the wedding, and who should once again show up at the airport but Eric.
Eric had no intention of starting anything with Vic. She was his friend's best friend, and she lived in Chicago. He would not go through what he'd seen Austin go through wanting a woman who didn't want to live in Scarlet Springs. As members of the wedding party, they were spending time together, and the more time he spent with Vic, Eric realized she was unhappy with her life. She couldn't go a few hours without being in contact with her boss - even when she was on vacation prepping for her best friend's wedding. Eric didn't think that was any way to live a life, but he could only live his own. He couldn't make someone else's decisions... although he could try to coax her.
Slow Burn was an entertaining second installment to Pamela Clare's Colorado High Country series. I had enjoyed Eric's character from the first moment we met him in Barely Breathing. Funny, flirty, sexy, and committed to his friends, Eric needed an exceptional woman, and Vic was the perfect woman for him. I enjoyed watching these two characters find their happily ever after, and revisiting favorite characters. I look forward to the next Colorado High Country story.

I am such a fan of this series! I haven't read any of her other books, but I'm loving this series! Vic and Eric are a fun couple. After a rocky first meeting, it didn't take long for the heat to kick in. Definitely want more from this series!
Based on the smoking hot book cover and title, you’ve likely already guessed Slow Burn by Pamela Clare features a handsome, sexy firefighter and a smoldering romantic tale. As book 2 of this series, you also won’t be surprised this stand-alone features a main couple (Victoria and Eric) who were first introduced in book 1 then went their separate ways. Not having read the previous book, I jumped right in without too much loss of character development, as the author did a decent job of bringing me up to speed on pertinent details regarding past events without redundancy.
Ms. Clare’s writing at first was very appealing/engaging, and the story line definitely flowed, until about the halfway point. Then the uncharacteristic cheesy, crude sexual banter/commentary and too lengthy, numerous smexy moments, kicked in and, overall, the rest of the plot/writing began to lose its appeal. Usually I can’t wait for the hero and heroine to bond as a couple. Instead, that’s when the book took a decidedly turn for the worst and slowly but surely went up in flames. Seriously, folks, it felt like two separate authors wrote each half. I half expected Eric to stop wearing his firefighter uniform and start appearing in all out biker leather gear, complete with a MC patch and tattoos.
Need an example? In the first part, they both came across as professional, classy, slightly on the straight laced side individuals. Then out of the blue in the second portion, Eric would use the term f*king in his hand like it was as normal as asking for someone to please pass him the salt. At one point doing so while discussing with Victoria his previous attraction to Lexie, her best friend. Victoria also started using the “f” word nearly the same, especially while referring to their smexy time together (even in texts). Folks, it just didn’t fit their previous established character profile.
I also need to point out I wish Victoria’s very humiliating former boyfriend drama had been something else. Embarrassing, creepy, even potentially dangerous doesn’t begin to describe it, folks. Here’s to hoping that dirty, rotten scoundrel rots in the fiery pit of Hades for all eternity.
As I was intrigued by Jesse Moretti, I’m really hoping his HEA in Book 3, Falling Hard, will not stumble down the same literary road as this one. This reviewer needs consistency in character portrayal and overall delivery of the entire romantic tale.
Rating: 3.5 stars
Title: Slow Burn, Series: Colorado High Country (Book 2), Author: Pamela Clare, Pages: 287, stand-alone but part of a series, good guy firefighter hero, loyal/beautiful heroine, humiliating past boyfriend drama, no love triangle, no OW/OM drama, no cheating, first half was better than the second part, numerous/lengthy VERY steamy scenes with lusty language, too lengthy rock climbing "how to" details.
Book 1 - Barely Breathing (Lexi & Austin), Pages: 272, 5/7/16
Book 2 - Slow Burn (Victoria & Eric), Pages: 287, 9/19/16
Book 3 - Falling Hard (Ellie & Jesse), Pages: 316, 2/18/17

This second installment of the Colorado High series is stronger than the first. I really appreciated that the main characters were such realistic characters. It's so refreshing to see characters that approach problems in an adult manner, that live lives with actual jobs and strong work ethics. The story itself moved a bit slowly for my taste, a little less Colorado Tourism might have helped move it faster, lol. I liked the hero's vulnerability and the heroine's fragility - that is not to say they didn't both have backbones! All in all, Slow Burn is an excellent read, well crafted with un-telegraphed twists and turns. I look forward to the next book.
Short review
3.5- 4 stars
When Victoria an Eric first met at the airport there were sparks, then fuming anger by the end of their meeting. Now Victoria is back in Scarlet falls for the wedding of her best friend Lexi and Eric’s best friend Austin.
Victoria has a really tough past year and now has sworn of men. And no matter how extremely attracted she is to the fireman, she is determined to keep it nothing more than friendly. Eric Hawake on the other hand, is a fireman and a player. He doesn’t do relationships that is of course before he ends up for falling for Victoria. Even knowing that it might not work out, they both find themselves caring and loving each other.
I enjoyed it a lot but I did have some issues.
I did really love Victoria and Eric together but it did feel like they moved to quickly into the relationship.
The book is wonderfully written, the chemistry and Victoria and Eric’s relationship was done pretty well, I just felt it would have been better if the timeline was a bit longer.
quibbles: I don’t know why but compared to I-Team the characters in this series seem quite less developed and not exactly superficial but I guess they just lack the depth that PC’s other series (I-team and her historicals) have.
Can I just live happily ever after in a Pamela Clare novel? Please? Her men are so hot, and her heroines are so witty and endearing. Both of which you'll see in Eric and Victoria. Their story is not one of ease, or sweetness. It's an internal fight of trust, lust, and safety. Which develops into more than either of them thought possible. Eric and Victoria truly are a slow burn, and it feels oh so right, and deliciously sexy. Eric is like the perfect man. I know there's not such thing, but the way he looks at Victoria is enough to win me over. And he's exactly everything Victoria needs. Someone to let her feel freedom, and feel loved and safe. But what are they supposed to do when it was a fling they were both looking for and it turned into something real, and meaningful, and they found the other half of themselves in each other? This is where the trust and safety comes back in and the decisions made will either make or break these two.
Read this. You need no further instructions. Just read. Devour. And enjoy (you won't have another option). Eric and Vic will warm your heart and your cheeks with their undeniably sexy chemistry and their touching connection.
