Description

Victoria Woodley is done with men. Fresh off a dating nightmare, she flies from her home in Chicago to Scarlet Springs to take part in her best friend’s wedding. Who picks her up at the airport? Eric Hawke. Of course. She made a fool of herself over him last time she was here. He’s cocky, charming, and sexy as sin. But the fact that she’s attracted to him is all the proof she needs that he’s bad news. She would ignore him if she could. But he’s the best man, and she’s the maid of honor. She can’t just tell him to jump in a lake—especially not when her lips are locked with his.

Eric isn’t looking for a relationship. Between running the firehouse and volunteering for the county’s search and rescue team, he has enough on his plate. He doesn’t need to get tangled up with a woman from the big city, especially one whose idea of roughing it is going without designer coffee. Yet from the moment he looks into Victoria’s big brown eyes, the attraction he feels is too strong to deny. Faster than he can imagine, the spark of desire that has smoldered between them since the first day they met will flare into full-blown passion.

But can Eric convince Victoria to set aside her doubts and trust him with her heart before their time together runs out?

Victoria Woodley is done with men. Fresh off a dating nightmare, she flies from her home in Chicago to Scarlet Springs to take part in her best friend’s wedding. Who picks her up at the airport? Eric...

Wow what a phenomenal story! I loved the story with Victoria and Hawke they are such warm hearted, realistic characters that would make great friends, in real life. Reading about Scarlet Springs and the relationships between everyone how they care for one another, makes it my dream place to live. It may be a fictional town but the way its written it feels like home. Its the place I look forward to living one day.

I loved the first book in this series and I didn't think anything could live up to Austin and Lexi's story, this book is right up there with it. After Eric and Victoria met at the Denver Airport in the first book and it went horribly wrong, a year later after Victoria has been blackmailed and treated horribly by a man, she's changed and not sure if she can get close to Eric or if she completely trusts herself.

Only their chemistry does nothing but draw them together and its almost like they subconsciously throw fire-crackers in the air. As they grow closer together, they know they only have a week together before she goes back to Chicago but they're not taking Austin and Lexi's wedding week for granted. Until the night of the wedding, an accident happens and Eric is forced to face his feelings and his fear of losing her. Eric may be a sexy firefighter, member of Search and Rescue, and a paramedic but he is so much more.

I love this series and all these characters. I love the fact that everyone is so close knit in Scarlet Springs. I don't know who I'm hoping the next story is about but whoever it is, I can't wait.

Reading Slow Burn was like visiting with old friends. The whole gang from Scarlet Springs was in it.
Eric seems to have his feet firmly planted on the ground. He's the one who people know they can count on. Victoria thought she knew what she wanted, but boy coming to Colorado really confused her.
If you like hero type books, then you'll love Slow Burn.

My first book by Pamela Clare. Will not be the last. Eric and Vic were awesomely written. They both had some things to overcome, but it was believable. I loved how protective Eric was toward Victoria. I wanted to beat up the dude who hurt Vic myself. And now I really want to read the story of Austin and Lexi! It sounded really exciting!

5 Firemen are my favorite color Stars
Oh My Gawd!!! I loved this book!. I have been dying for Eric and Vic's book since I read Barely Breathing(book 1) back in May. It was everything I hoped for and more. I have had people tell me this series is just so different from Pamela Clare's I-team series. Well I haven't read that series yet(it's on my tbr list) so I don't know what it's like. I know it's suppose to have a lot of action in it and suspense. And while I enjoy action with my romance too, this series to me was more like a pure romance. Where the story's main focus is on the love and relationship of the main couple. Both books in this series have been sweet, very romantic, lower on angst, and high on super hot men in uniforms. And boy do I have a weakness for men in uniforms!
Eric really stood out to me in book one and I couldn't wait to get my hands on his book. He was so yummy. Eric was this sexy fireman with a heart of gold. He was cocky, playful, and outgoing. He was respectful to his mama, brave, loyal, caring, and he really knew how to work his hose! lol.
Victoria (Vic) was sassy, outgoing, and fun. She had been hurt really bad by a guy she was dating in a way that would mess anyone up. It almost ruined her life, but Eric helped her to open up again and reclaim her life. Vic was a little scared and insecure at times, but it was totally understandable. Vic and Eric has some burning heat. Pamela Clare really knows how to bring the passion. I loved every single minute of their relationship. I felt really connected to them as a couple and I was deeply invested in their HEA.
I love that this book has so much romance to it. In some books the couple's love almost feels like a side story to the plot but not with this book. Their love is front and center and there is plenty of relationship build up. And never once was I bored or did I feel like the book dragged. It grabbed my attention and held it til the last page. Even then I wanted more. I loved getting to Catch up with Austin and Lexi. I loved getting to read all about their wedding. I really liked Chaska, Sasha, and Jesse. I am hoping they each get their own books but I am hoping for Chaska's book first! Eric and Vic's HEA omg swoon. It was so good and sweet. I enjoyed every minute of this book including all the minutes I drooled over that cover! OMG that cover is hot! I can't wait for the next book.

I absolutely loved this book! This is an excellent series so far and I highly recommend both this book and the previous book Barely Breathing. Hawke and Vic’s story could stand lane just fine but reading Barely Breathing first will enhance your experience. I loved Hawke and Vic, they have such great chemistry and even though they had cross purposes when they first meet they get over initial bad first impressions to have a really great relationship. Hawke is a really great character, he's such a hero (I mean gone on he’s the fire chief and a search and rescue volunteer), such an alpha, but there’s still a deep vulnerability in him. Then there’s Vic (or Victoria, or Vickie…depends on who's talking), she's awesome! I loved her, she has a deep well of caring for people, and an ingrained sense of justice. I loved how these two were together, they really brought out the best in each other. I also love seeing the rest of the cast of characters who make up the search and rescue team and I have to say I absolutely cannot wait for more in this series! Who’s HEA is next? I received an ARC of this book from the publisher through Net Galley in exchange for an honest review.

Wow, that was fantastic! I just finished reading this book on the way back from a retreat for historical romance readers (shout out to Renee Benard and Delilah Marvelle!), and I am delighted that I got the chance to review this book. You might wonder, if you haven't heard of me before, why is a historical romance reader reading a contemporary romance. Well, this book is why I do! It shows that chivalry is most certainly not dead, and it gives me, a single woman, hope that such men like Eric are out there.

Victoria Woodley is in Colorado for her best friend's wedding as the maid of honor, and who picks her up from the airport but Eric Hawke, the best man. They have a rocky history from the summer before, when they first met, but both are determined to start anew. Especially Vic, who recently went through an ordeal no woman should ever have to go through. Eric and Victoria grow very close, and soon both are thinking in terms of love. The question is, can a city girl be content in a small town, even if it is with the love of her life?

I have to say, at first I was a bit skeptical of Victoria and Eric. Vic seemed like the typical pretty woman, who knows it and flirts with everyone. Likewise, Eric seemed like the typical hot guy, who knows it and sleeps around. Boy, was I wrong! There were so many facets to their personalities, and I found myself wishing they were real. Victoria, while being ridiculously gorgeous and wealthy, was actually very relatable, and Eric was a big softie, who had a bit of a hero complex. Okay, a lot, but hey, he works as a firefighter and a search and rescue/paramedic, so he kind of is. Their love was sweet, and it was a joy to read.

I can't wait to read more books by this author! The next book in the series should be great - I just wonder who it will be about...

I loved this book. Book two in the Colorado High Country series and it has everything you could want in a book and more. This story overlaps book one, where we find Evan "Hawke" and Vic. Hawke is sent to the airport in Denver to pick up someone he doesn't know, he only knows their name Vic Woodley, whom his best friend Taylor describes as his fiance Lexi's best friend from Chicago who wants to break them up and drag Lexi out of the sleepy tiny mountain town back to Chicago. Hawke meets "Vic" in line in the airport, a little overtaken with her looks, they talk while waiting. She's waiting for a ride, he's waiting for this person to show up to take them back to Scarlet Springs. He oddly reveals who he is waiting for, that he and his buddy weren't happy about this persons arrival and had laughably plotted to toss Vic in a ditch. The light bulb clicks in Vic's head and she asks him who he's waiting for. Vic Woodley. Oops. That sets them off on a bad foot to say the least. They stay clear of each other for the remainder of the visit. It's clear to Vic that Lexi is happy here back in her hometown. Taylor her fiance, is a ranger and firefighter paramedic. Hawke is the fire chief, an EMT paramedic and they're all part of an elite Search and Rescue team in that area. They live this 24/7.
Fast forward a year and Vic is returning to Scarlet for a week of prenuptial festivities, Taylor and Lexi are getting married and the week is planned out with great outdoor activities every day. She knows she's going to see Eric again and yes he's there to pick her up at the airport. This time they make friends. Taylor has warned Hawke to go easy on her because she's a rough go of things. He leaves it at that and gives no more information. Vic works for a high profile PR firm in Chicago. Her boss is obnoxious and bothers her all hours of the day and night, despite her being on vacation. I have to hand it to Vic, there are times when she turns off the phone and tosses it in the drawer. She's staying atLexi's family's B&B and has the best suite in the place. Jewell's father Bob has gotten himself together from book one. Lexi's mother died when she was young leaving her and her younger sister behind with their Dad. Her dad has remarried and we see that story in book one. As the week progresses we see the relationship between Hawke and Vic develop despite her fear and what's happened in the past that has her so fearful.
This small town and every single character in this story feel like family, because in this story they are. But they feel like people you know. People you can relate to. There's a local bar/ restaurant called Knockers after the legendary Tommyknockers, spirits who are said to live in the old mine shafts. Vic hates their pizza and teaches the owner how to make a deep dish Chicago pizza. The story just keeps getting better. This story is rich which history, Native American lore and serves up a great glimpse into what these teams do and is a wonderful love story. Not just between Taylor and Lexi but Hawke and Vic.
The plot was perfect, it had every feel you want, low angst, and there wasn't a thing not to like about this book. Not a thing.
This is my first book by this author and it won't be the last. I loved it. She's a great writer, story teller and has a real love for her home and the mountains. It comes through her writing.
I want more. Next book please!

5 - "Until you..." Stars!

I fell in love with Pamela Clare’s writing after I read the first book in the Colorado High Country series, and Slow Burn lived up to the high standards of its predecessor Barely Breathing, in every way.

IMAGE.

Eric and Victoria’s story, sort of began towards the end of the first book, with them getting off on completely the wrong foot after Eric, basically puts both of his right in it, when picking up Victoria from the airport. Slow Burn apart from the prologue sets off roughly a year after their initial meeting, with Vic returning to town to take up Maid of Honor duties for her best friend Lexi’s wedding. Eric also happens to be the Best Man, so this is a couple that are expected to spend a considerable amount of time together over the week of planned wedding celebrations.

She’d come to Scarlet hoping to get away from the past year. But somehow she’d bought it all with her.

A lot has changed for Victoria over the intervening year, and taking a break from her life back in Chicago is what she needs. The chemistry between her and Eric, is an inconvenience that she initially tries to avoid, but it doesn’t take long for his caring actions, and her getting to know him better for her walls to start crumbling down.

"You’re a good man."

Loved this story, the romance was well paced, the sexy-times between Eric and Vic were hot and sometimes sweetly emotional, and the background stories for the rest of the Scarlet Townsfolk as well as the rest of the Search and Rescue volunteers that continue to play out and expand keep everything developing nicely.

"Firemen are my favorite color."

Another positive for me is the fact that there are so many secondary characters, and all of them seem to have stories that are waiting to be told, the author has scope to keep this series running for a long time to come, what with the locale, the people and the town in general, Scarlet is somewhere that I look forward visiting more and hopefully regularly in the future.

"This is the closest I’ve come to paradise."

Two books read, two five star reviews written, Pamela Clare is an author that I have no qualms about reading anything and everything by in the future.

Victoria and Eric certainly did not get off on the right foot to start this book off. When they meet again a year later as best man and maid of honor it is safe to say that they still have some work to do. But underneath it all is an undeniable attraction to each other. As they spend the week together leading up to the wedding that attraction becomes harder to resist.
I really enjoyed this book and this author's writing. I will be looking for more books to read. I was given an ARC of this book by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Another winner! I like the fact that they didn't fall for each other right away. As the title says Slow Burn, it was indeed that! I love Clare's books and can't wait for the next one. Slow Burn features Eric and Victoria featured in the previous novel Barely Breathing with is another of my favorites. Without spoilers in both books, this is a series that everyone NEEDS to read!

Until this book I hadn't read anything by this author. I can't believe I didnt know this author before know! Iv definetly been missing out if her previous books are like this.

This is my Perfect kind of story. Low on angst but high on laughter and love.

Eric was a fantastic hero. He was super sweet, very funny, a little arrogant(in the best ways) and a whole lota sexy. I love that there was no female ex drama which is what normally happens with small town romances and in fact most romances all together. There is absolutely no references to his past and women other than that he works a busy life and hasn't had to time to settle and one bit in his inner thoughts were he mentions that he's never had a women other than his mum in his house. So I'd definitely say it's 100% safe for the no cheating group. He wasn't in denial nor did he fight his feeling towards Victoria and pretty sone after the realisation that he loved her he told her. And to be fair he was just all round amazing!! Also the fact that he's a fireman doesn't hurt. Yummy!!!

Victoria was a little harder to crack! The glimpse of her in the beginning of the book doesn't leave much to go off but as you read on you realise she's more of a layers person.. the longer you read the more layers you pull back and the more interesting she becomes. You also learn very early on that something shitty has happened to her but your left hanging in suspense until pretty far on in the story for detail of what exactly happened. All you know is that she's been hurt by a guy badly.
I loved her though! She was super sweet and very loving and even though she had her guard up with Eric she didn't once deny her feelings toward him nor did she play mind games. Always willing to try new things regardless of if she was terrified and super funny to. She was a great character. I also over how you don't really know she's loaded because it's not something she mentions or uses to her advantage, she very low key about the fact she has millions and very down to earth.

I loved reading their growth and watching them build this wonderful love story. Very low on angst but lots of funny moment including some cracking one liners and some very sexy scenes hot enough to get your skin on fire!! ( don't panic though.. sexy Eric is our resident fireman more than qualified to put of the flames ;))

The side characters were great. The story is well built with depth and emotion without to much unnecessary drama. It's just one of them stories that leaves you with that happy vibes feeling!! I can't gush about this book enough! I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Slow Burn is book 2 in the Colorado High Country series. I haven’t read book 1 yet but will correct this mistake very soon! Slow Burn can definitely be read as a standalone though.
This book was fantastic! I loved the chemistry between Victoria and Eric and how they fell for each other within an action-packed week of adventures.
The story was a perfect mix of sweet and steamy with lots of action, suspense and fun!
And OMG, I want to move to Scarlet Springs. Seriously, I fell in love with the town and its people.
Can’t wait to read more of this series. Highly recommended!

This is my first book by Pamela Clare and it definitely won't be my last. Slow Burn was a wonderfully written story. I fell in love with Eric and Victoria. Their relationship started of as acquaintances and continued to grow as they realize their feelings for each other. I will be checking out the first book on this series and can't wait for the next one!

I first read Pamela Clare’s book with a series of historical fiction novels, then moved on to romantic suspense books by her. For a while I did not see anything new by her until Jack West’s story in Soul Deep. The Colorado High Country Series is an off shoot of that book which includes Slow Burn. I can honestly say this series is even better than the I-Team which was a hard act to follow. Even though I have never met Pamela Clare r had any personal contact with her, this series seems to have her heart in it.
The mystery is not so much a danger to the characters now but it kept me reading to see what had happened in Chicago and what happened to the Search and Rescue Team on call out. Both situations were heartbreaking. I thought that this would be the great suspense in the book but at the wedding of Lexi and Austin the story turns on a dime. I so was not expecting that and could not have stopped reading if my house had been on fire. Well, maybe if someone like Eric had shown up! I loved the way it all played out. Now I can’t wait for the next in the series. Pamela Clare, write quickly.

4 1/2 Stars! We first meet Eric and "Vic" at the end of book 1 when Eric thinks he is picking up a man at the airport. A year later Victoria is back in Scarlet Springs for her best friends wedding ... she is the maid of honor and Eric is the best man. Eric and Victoria are from different worlds ... Eric was raised by a single mom who barely scraped by while Victoria was raised by a rich and powerful father. Eric is a fire chief in the small Colorado town and Victoria is a high-powered executive in Chicago. But this time, the sparks fly and they can't keep their hands off each other. How can they be together without one giving up their life style. I enjoyed the ups and downs in their story with some laughs and sexy times. I can't wait for the next book in this series.

I received a copy of this book from the author through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

On the outside Victoria Woodley seems like any other rich city girl, more focused on her cell phone and her job but with her best friend getting married the next week Victoria leaves it all behind to celebrate in the tiny town of Colorado trying things she never could have imagined herself doing.

Eric Hawke is a walking talking dream man come to life. Not only is he the Fire Chief but he’s also a volunteer search and rescue member… SERIOUSLY CAN THIS MAN BE ANYMORE SEXY?!?!?! Eric thought he was content in his life but the moment he heard those few little words “Firemen are my favorite color” his life is never the same.

Finally, a book that had it all! From the character development to the happily ever after. I haven’t read the first book of this series going in so I didn’t know what to expect from it and while I do wish I had read the first one first its only because I loved the characters so much that I feel like I missed out on possibly loving them even more if I had experienced the first book with them as well. Slow Burn can absolutely be read as a standalone though because of Pamela’s amazing writing skills. She informs you with every bit of history without making you ever feel like the story is dragging on. Pamela could easily become one of my new favorite authors!

I am such a fan of this series! I haven't read any of her other books, but I'm loving this series! Vic and Eric are a fun couple. After a rocky first meeting, it didn't take long for the heat to kick in. Definitely want more from this series!

This was a wonderful follow up to the first Colorado High Country book. It had wonderful characters that I could relate to, a very interesting storyline, and a great setting. Clare's books are always fantastic, and that was certainly true with this one!

Love Pamela Clare and her charming and sizzling love stories!!!!

And as a master of writing prowess, she creates Eric Hawke and Victoria Woodley with enough passion and fire to burn the sheets as hot as the fire that Eric plays with.

Loved it!

OMG LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE

This is the first book by this author that I've read but it definitely won't be the last! I loved this book! The book opens with Vic and Eric meeting in the most hilarious was possible (open foot insert mouth) and takes you through their anything but predictable friendship and romance.

I loved that Vic was mature enough to recognize what she wanted and didn't want and that she knew what she could do without. I loved Eric...just loved him! He fought so hard against what he wanted that it was enjoyable to watch unfold.

An amazing story! Can't wait to read what's next for this series!

I love reading books by Pamela Clare and this one was no exception. Eric and Vic are such well developed characters you feel as if you really know and understand them. This was a book I did not want to put down.

"Firemen are my favorite color." Vic makes no secret she thinks Eric is hot, but a past mistake has her taking her time with hooking up. Eric really is HOT and sexy. Love sneaks up on both of them. Loved seeing all the old peeps again. Can't wait to see who falls next.
