I had never read this one before, so it was a new experience for me. It's amazing how well these tales hold up through the years; they're classics for a reason. A cottage, an evil queen, and a virtuous girl are the tried and true markings of a classic fairy tale. Accompanied by simple yet beautiful illustrations, I hope this tale finds an entirely new audience.
I enjoyed reading this aloud with my daughter. It's been some time since I last read any Andersen and I don't think I've ever read this one. An engaging story about a young girl's adventure to find her eleven brothers after they have been turned into wild swans. Following various clues, she manages to track them down. The settings are described in a hauntingly atmospheric way, as you would expect of Andersen. If you like fairy tales with a dark side, you'll enjoy this. I will be buying this in hardcopy to keep for my daughter.
2 classic fairy tales in one bind up. Both "Wild Swans" and "The Nightingale are timeless treasures. While I would have liked some more character depth, I understand that this was not the style in that time. Compared with other fairy tales I feel like these didn't contain the violence or horror yet still kept with the themes of teaching lessons to the reader. I would recommend this to any friend.
I own way too many copies of Andersen's tale, and I don't even care. Andersen is my favorite storyteller.
This lovely edition contains two of the loveliest fairy tales from my childhood. First of them - "The wild swans" tells us a story of bewitched princes and their younger sister who tries to save them. I don't know if it's just this edition, or if I used to read a little bit different version, but there are few things that were not exactly as I remembered them. Still, the essence of the story is the same and it is a lovely tale about faith, devotion, and determination. The little girl is willing to do anything to save her brothers

The second tale - "The Nightingale" is the one I like more, but this edition treats it like some kind of bonus story that didn't even get one image... Anyway, this story is pretty much about freedom and nature being a superior comparing to technology. As much as I love computers, I have to admit that in nature is a powerful and lovely force and taming it is not always the right way to go.
I should probably write few words about this edition since that is what brought this review as I knew both of these stories since childhood. The cover is lovely and so fitting, but it's concentrated on one of two stories. Well, most of the books is, the illustrations also cover only the Wild Swans tale, but the images are lovely even if not colored. Actually, the images looked like they were meant to be colored, like in a coloring book - just take come color pencils and have a go at them. If the paper editions have appropriate paper, they might be a fantastic gift for kids who'd love to color their favorite storybook.
Beautiful Book. I love the illustrations , and I love the story.
A n enchanting introduction to this story for new readers of these tales. It is sure to become a favourite.
This is absolutely stunning! The imagery is vivid and the writing is lyrical throughout. Perfect short read.
