A nice little volume of knitting patterns some easy some more complex but all of them interesting . The patterns are shown in glorious white but I know they would be equally beautiful in the knitter's choice of color.
I think a beginning knitter will a great sense of accomplishment making the shawl which could easily be adapted to a baby blanket or if one wanted and had the ambition a nice throw for an adult.
I read Ms. Soboti's first book, "Margeau Chapeaux," and was very impressed. Ms. Soboti does not fail to disappoint in this new knitting book, "Margeau Blanc," which only has winter white knits (though the patterns can be knitted in other colors, of course.).
The patterns range from accessories to sweaters, with every something for every level of knitter. Using white as the only color allows the stitch work to show so well, even if the garment is in simple stockinette. This can really show off the details in even the simplest of knit garments.
The instructions are very clear and well written. The photography is excellent - every garment is shown in its best light.
I really enjoyed this book and plan to use some of the patterns. And I would recommend it to other knitters. A really good book.
As a knitter I am constantly looking at knitting books. This one will appeal to the majority of knitters, I believe. It has several patterns and they all looked interesting to knit. I am really glad that I was chosen to review this book and have at least one pattern that I plan on knitting out of it.
I'm not a fan of all if the patterns but overall I like the idea of the project. Patterns look easy to follow.
This is a very good and clear book full of basic patterns suitable for the beginner onwards. I don't really see why they are all in white- (that may just be me!). The instructions are clear, with added diagrams and measurements.
It would make a good addition to anyone's knitting library, and would also be a good supply of plain patterns for any one wishing to add their own motifs .
Margeau Blanc A New Perspective on Winter White Knits by Margeau Soboti
After watching the inaugural and all the women wearing white I had wanted to read this book.
Patterns are simple yet elegant. My favorite is a beannie type hat where crown is worked in special design.
Not all the pictures showed properly for me on my tablet but I was able to understand what was being shown.
Think I like the accessories more than the sweater but those are really nice also.
Each pattern starts out with color photo and a summary of the item.
Skill level, yarn used, needles and notion along with measurements and gauge.
Stitch glossary is enclosed for each pattern and then the directions, row by row-not charted directions.
Easy to understand and I do not think anybody will have a problem making any of these as the details are so descriptive.
I did not care for the sweaters hanging on a tree branch as they didn't just hang right. It does show how the item will look but I'd rather see a model wearing them.
Like that there are so many different methods for neck and sleeves and even length of sweaters. So versatile.
Abbreviations are listed at the end. Something for everyone.
I received this book from Net Galley in exchange for my honest review.
The book, in my opinion, is geared for intermediate or expert knitters. The designs are attractive and the pictures show them off nicely. I like that they're all fairly basic designs, although there is enough change in stitches to give variety. I know the white garments were the theme, but think they could have been improved with a little color. I especially liked the crew neck sweater because of the extended back hem. The reason I believe this is for knitters with experience is because most of the designs call for smaller needles and more stitches to the inch than a lot of books with basic designs. I appreciate being able to read and review this book.
After reading Ms. Soboti's previous book, Margeau Chapeaux, I was anticipating another stylish knitting book and was not disappointed. With such clear instructions and diagramming, knitters of all abilities would be able to follow these patterns. The use of white yarns definitely shows off the stitches in these garments, including the simple stockinette stitch. Definitely worth putting on your crafting shelf.
I'm sorry, I misunderstood what this book was about. I thought it was about Winter fashion, not making your own winter fashion. I gave it a 5 because it did seem informative to those who are into this. My apologies.
Winter white is the theme of this knitting pattern book. 14 patterns for hats, shawls, sweaters and a cowl. The book uses written patterns and is suitable for anyone who can do a cable. None of the patterns is particularly unusual and I wish that the models had smiled more often instead of looking as if they had just swallowed a snowball.
I received a review copy of "Margeau Blanc: A New Perspective on Winter White Knits" by Margeau Soboti (Dover) through NetGalley.com.
