Description

Their families feared concentration camps, the gulag in Siberia, executions. But the children, Ed and Donna, emigrated to the safe shores of the USA and met as teenagers. They married young, were adventurous together, successful together, and still together as young parents in pursuit of the American Dream they’re pushed to their breaking points as their serial entrepreneurship careens out of control, trapping them in a work prison of their own making.

The memoir CAR PALACE plunges the reader into the anxious seas of risk in the land of American commerce and literature, revealing several regions of the soul—marriage, morals, ambition and fear—and asks, what does it mean to control your own destiny?

A story driven by men and women working the seams of the fractured American Dream, stitching hope and ambition to overcome risk. Based on events 25-years in the making, the Lithuanian-born author, Gediminas Trimakas, portrays a perilous journey across a bridge joining commerce and literature in the Second Gilded Age of Inequality. A memoir ripped from the Great American Experience—and more timely than ever.

An interesting memoir - a cross between what it means to have a strong marriage, a strong entrepreneurial spirit and be a neophyte involved in what can only be described as a high-stakes, go-for-broke real estate venture. Add to that a son who - through stupid teen-aged behavior - came close to bankrupting everything. My only complaint was that the ending felt much too rushed; almost like he couldn't wait to just wrap everything up and move on. A good read though. And certainly a book I would recommend.
