Potted by Annette Goliti Gutierrez: Mary Gray is a very cool book of the various materials that can be used as pots for your plants. This book includes everything from concrete, to pvc pipes, to containers you find around the house and repurpose or decorate to become a trendy pot for your patio or garden. Lots of ideas in this book! Highly recommend this for the crafty, or not so crafty, gardener.

Potted by Annette Goliti Gutierrez and Mary Gray is a creative look at making planters from common materials especially those found in construction but also some found in the kitchen. I asked my husband, a professional landscaper, to look over my copy, he found the book to be imaginative but also reasonably doable; giving the homeowner plenty of ideas to choose or expand.
As for me, I liked that an assortment materials were used so that there is something that would appeal to most anyone reading the book. A few of the planters I had seen before but never with this much detail on the construction of them. Most were new ideas for me.
I appreciated that all supplies are listed in a clear concise way with detail directions and illustrations. Photographs of the work in progress were extremely helpful as well as ones of the finished planter. I do think that one would need to have some knowledge of using tools such as saws and drills. A few of the cement planters and driveway grids were definitely out of my skill range but most were ones I would be willing to try. My favorites were the planters using the PCV pipes and the stock tank, along with the flying saucer planters.
Overall, anyone from a novice to a skilled worker would be able to read, enjoy and use this book to make planters. One of the strengths of the Potted is the way that it encourages each person to see everyday materials in a new way to create something of beauty for homes and gardens.

This book drew me in originally because of the flower image on the cover as well as the subject overall as our house loves plants, flowers etc.
The writing is laid out in paragraphs and columns with large images to view and steps to follow. It utilizes space in the garden by introducing the idea of planters built into the wall not just plain designing pots.
The book is definitely for older readers as the use of saws and drills are required for a lot of the projects. Though there are some more simple plain to amazing design ideas for standard terracotta pots, family can pitch in and help there with supervision I'm sure.
Overall it was an interesting read and I with be trying these ideas with my mum in the future. I was intrigued to find out too that the authors owned between them a Pot shop and it's a unique idea because we can only ever find our pots we need in retail shops that are well known and obviously mass produced too.
Many thanks to the publishers for allowing me a copy to review!

Such creative ideas!!!! I mage several of them for my patio!....even had a "potted" party, where my friends and I made containers!!!!

I voluntarily read and reviewed this book. Thanks to NetGalley and Timber Press for the opportunity to read and review Potted: Make Your Own Stylish Garden Containers by Annette Goliti Gutierrez! Beautiful photographs and detailed directions make this a must-have book for creating imaginative plant containers. The book isn't bogged down with instructions for planting because the focus is on the pots. A list of needed supplies and clear directions will help beginners create and enjoy beautiful containers that are show off worthy! My favorites are the metal water garden, the cinder block planters and the marbled pots- gorgeous! 5 stars for a wonderfully creative craft book to give your plants a special place.

This is a lovely book, well worth looking through to learn new techniques.

A great resource for container gardening - great for urbanites and people with small yards or no yard at all. Container gardening is great when you have plants that require special soil or who are super picky about soil ph.

This is awesome, but be ready to get your hands dirty. It isn't just about drilling holes in the bottom of this or that everyday object, some of these are actual builds with cement and other messy stuff.
It's about looking at things in new ways, which is my favorite thing to do. Also about creating facades that look heavy and very permanent, that aren't.
