Description
- The material for this book comes from workshops Albert has taught all over the country (Esalen, Omega, etc). As such, each chapter ends with a meditation exercise followed by a writing exericse.
- Albert breaks down the book into twelve chapters, one for each month of the year. For the most part, the content and exercises in a given chapter are thematically related to the month (e.g., January is "Rebirth," April is "Blossoming," and November is "Reflection").
- In the introduction, Albert asserts and supports the premise that everyone is a creative genius. He also illustrates how mindfulness practice and creative endeavors go hand-in-hand.
- Albert presents eastern wisdom in a secular manner that is conversational and accessible to readers from various backgrounds (e.g., one needn't be a seasoned writer or meditator to be able to appreciate what the book offers, but neither need one be a beginner to find value in the exercises presented).
- Each chapter presents personal stories from Albert's life, explores the topic at hand (e.g., what does "reading" actually mean?), and concludes with a meditation exercise (clearly instructed and progressive as the book evolves) and a writing exercise (associated with the theme and content of the chapter).
- As a segue between chapters, Albert plans to add exercises for other creative artists (e.g., dancers, painters, actors, musicians, and so on).
