Charmed by Charlie is the perfect office romance. If you ever worked as a product manager, you can probably recognize a lot of Valerie's 'all-in-a-days-work' adventures. Last minutes requests from your nasty boss about the latest sales figures. Having them to rework all day, because the graphics do not look convincing enough, overhearing discussions in a meeting room and gossiping with your BFF colleague at the coffee machine.
Val's best friend Bernie is hilarious and the constant bickering between her and Val's fiancé George is very amusing. And I also think the Spice Boys is definitely better than Haddad's...
And what's not to like about Charlie? Charms, looks, flirtatious remarks, he has it all. Including the Senior Product management job Val's had her eyes on. So no, she really doesn't like Charlie. But Charlie clearly does like her. And everybody in the company seem to have set their eyes on Charlie and Val to save the company with the newest discovery in paint and a grand marketing campaign. Every turn Val takes, she (literally) bumps into Charlie. Infuriating, especially when Val feels their mutual attraction, but really tries her best to deny this.
And when Seth (Val's ex-fiancé, who cheated on Val with her best friend and roommate Deidre) reappears, Val's misery is just complete. Who can she trust and how can she trust her heart, when every guy seems to lie to her. Even faithful and reliable George. What secrets does Charlie hide and who is draining the company funds? Val needs to find out soon, or she will be out of a job. Can she find out the truth or will the men in her life keep painting pretty pictures?
Funny, charming and a great read. Thank you Amanda Uhl and Netgalley for this arc. Four out of five stars from me.
Charmed by Charlie is a cute romantic comedy. I absolutely loved this book. A new to me author and I enjoyed her writing style
This was an ok book. I personally do not like books, where heroine's friend ends up with boyfriend and she is ok with it. Val has a steady boyfriend, so even though she is attracted to Charlie, she tries not to be, she want the comfort of George. Her friend does not get along with George or vice versa, but it is really because they are attracted to each other. Every other woman, wants Charlie, but he wants Val. Eventually everything does come out, George ends up with Beverly, and Val gives her blessing, there are a lot of misunderstandings, but they do get resolved, and Val ends up with Charlie.
4 Stars! The story really pulled me along, and I couldn't help but root for the heroine. I really would have liked to see the hero's point of view in several places, because it read like an old-fashioned romance where we never know what's going on with the hero. There were misunderstandings and corporate intrigue, but it was clear that the heroine was in love in spite of herself, lol. Charlie was too much of an enigma for me, seeing that we only saw him through the heroine's eyes. Still, the book was very good, the cover adorable and the author's voice bright!
This is the first book by this author I have read. I got to say I am impressed. This was a sweet romantic story with a roller coaster of emotions. I was impressed with the authors style of writing. She did not rush the book, instead took the time to develop and tell the story. It definitely had you guessing in some parts. The characters were fun, witty and entertaining. Val really struggled with trust issues. But still did what she could to help others. I would recommend this book. It is a cozy sweet read. I'm definitely looking forward to reading more from her.
Valerie (Val) works for a paint company, and gets stuck working with Charlie, the gorgeous new man, promoted to her coveted position. For the most part I liked the book, but the side mystery of Seth is not fully described. Not sure how if fully ends, and the ex BF is not mentioned again either. I also got frustrated with Charlie's attitude at the end, and felt irritated at his pouting. Still would recommend the book though, and it would make an easy summer read.
This is my first book by Amanda Uhl.

What I didn't like:
"my alter ego"
Val
I had a hard time staying interested in the story, but I will try another book by this author.
Enjoyable romance with an interesting storyline.
There are two strands to the story. The first is of a rich playboy meeting his much poorer soul mate who already has a boyfriend but unusually for this kind of story the boyfriend also ends up matched. The second storyline is of the company where they meet and the ups and downs of this too. Lows so down that the owner is sued over the issues involved.
I did enjoy the novel but didn't really feel the pace of the writing picked up when the story got exciting and I kept having to reread parts to understand the action.
Valerie has the worst luck in choosing men, after dealing with heartbreak she finds herself in a new relationship that's safe but not nearly as satisfying as it should be. While her mistrust is understandable, it was very annoying to see her naivety in many of the situations. She has no real discernment of people's character and she was quick to believe every lie that any one told her even though she had been burned by the person before. It was very frustrating seeing how easily mislead she was. It was still a really good read and a very happy ending.
Quick read about multiple misunderstandings. The ending felt rushed. This is a work romance.
