Buzz Launch never failed me. Thank you so much. It's helpful for book bloggers, librarians, and media who supports books.
As always, Buzz Books has released a selection of great excerpts. I was thrilled to read excerpts from books I was already aware of and excited for - Beasts Made of Night, Girls Made of Snow and Glass, Warcross, All Rights Reserved - and I was pleased to find that I enjoyed them all immensely. I think All Rights Reserved is going to end up being a favourite of mine.
Wow! I am loving Warcross, Girls Made of Snow and Glass, The Gatekeepers, and so many more. This is a great addition of buzz books. 2017 is an awesome year for books!
Thank you for the previews! So many exciting titles. I'm especially really looking forward to reading 'Girls Made of Snow and Glass' - it seems amazing!
Looks like a lot of great books coming this year! Looking forward to some of these selections.
Wonderful to see the diverse range of books on offer in this genre. Definitely an interesting selection, very interested in some of them. Thank you for this. So appreciated!!
This was the best edition of Buzz Books in recent memory! The Young Adult Fall / Winter 2017 Edition is packed full of wonderful book excerpts from talented authors... some of the authors are completely new to me, and some are old favorites (like Marie Lu!) It opens with an excerpt in prose, which I nearly swore I would never read a book in prose again, but it hooked me right from the start. I felt like I could hear the spoken words as the story unfolded.
Thanks for providing this as an eARC. I added a lot to my TBR pile today.
Awesome for references as ever, highlighting books I didn't even know were coming out and helping me understand the feel of them!
While I didn't find myself attracted to quite as many of the YA offerings this time around, I love that YA is broken out in the seasonal additions and will continue to look forward to each seasonal addition of Buzz Books.
Super useful as always, I can't wait for these releases, most look so good. I loved it!❤❤
There are so many new releases to get excited about in the upcoming season. A feminist retelling of Snow White (GIRLS MADE OF SNOW AND GLASS)? YES PLEASE AND THANK YOU. A world dominated by clones (YOUR ONE AND ONLY)? SIGN ME UP! Nigerian-influences fantasy (BEASTS MADE OF NIGHT)? MORE PLEASE. This sampler almost has me craving cozy sweaters and hot chocolate. (Almost but not quite. I'm most definitely a warm weather girl.)
When ever I see a new Buzz Books is available I run to it!! I love the idea of getting exposed to a book I normally wouldn't pick up. I have found wonderful new to me authors this way and it's so easy to request an ARC with the link at the end of each excerpt. Keep up the good work!!
I loved reading the summaries of the upcoming YA novels. I am extremely excited to read many of the featured books and have added multiple to my TBR list. It is wonderful to get a sneak peak at these books because it helps shape my future reading goals and trends. Thanks for providing this amazing compilation to me - I thoroughly enjoyed every word.
Very Informative about the upcoming books coming out this fall!
Always exciting to see what books I have to look forward to. Never disappoints!
Definitely interested in a lot of these releases. I'm reading an arc of Girls Made Of Snow and Glass right now, and it's just as fabulous as promised. Marie Lu's book and Marieke Nijkamp's book both look so amazing, and I was glad to get excerpts from them.
Aside from that, I enjoyed the excerpt Solo, which I hadn't heard of until now. I hope none of them disappoint.
Thought this was really helpful and fun to look through. Lots of new books on my TBR now :)
There are so many books in here that I'm looking forward to. I'm especially interested in Girls Made of Snow and Glass, All Rights Reserved, The Gatekeepers, and All Things New.
This annual excerpt anthology always gets me excited for things to come this Fall and Winter!
I found some new books to read from this collection and I can't wait to get to some of them. I would definitely recommend checking it out.
Like always, as super helpful in finding information on upcoming releases. If you have trouble keeping up to date with the YA community these are a must!!
Love to read snippets like this. It helps in planning what the media center where I work can and should order.
Very excited to get my hands on these books! Especially for Girls Made of Snow and Glass and Your One and Only! Really cool to get to taste the vibe of new books long before they come out.
Very informative. Great to get more information on upcoming books.
Buzz Books once again compiles a great list of upcoming Young Adult releases for the fall/winter! I have a few more promising titles added to my TBR and I can't wait to read them!
I love when these come out, the only bad thing is what it does to my wishlist
I'm already a fan of the Buzz Books excerpts, but this has to be my favorite one yet.
I requested MANY of these from NetGalley, but I also preordered several.
The ones I'm excited about are:
Girls Made of Snow and Glass
Your One & Only
Everless
All Rights Reserved
Warcross
Love Songs & Other Lies
Another season, another set of book excerpts from Publishers Lunch, this time in preparation for colder weather. As usual, I’ve written down the ones that piqued my interest the most and I am incredibly excited to get my hands on them as soon as I can.
My can’t wait for books:
1. Girls Made of Snow and Glass by Melissa Bashardoust
2. Everless by Sara Holland
3. All Rights Reserved by Gregory Scott Katsoulis
4. The Gatekeepers by Jen Lancaster
5. Warcross by Marie Lu
6. Before I Let Go by Marieke Nijkamp. I’m not entirely sure about this one yet, but it certainly sounds intriguing.
7. Beasts Made of Night by Tochi Onyebuchi
I'm waiting this buzz book every year, it's great to have a snipet of the next big releases in YA. As always I like some of them and other a bit less.
I always love the Buzz Books samplers. I haven't been able to attend a Book Con yet, although I'm dying to go one day. These little samplers are great to get preview what the next big upcoming books are, especially when they feature some of my favorite authors or most anticipated releases. There are a couple books in this sampler that I'm kind of interested in. There isn't anything I absolutely have to have in this one at this point. However, I've had some must read books seriously disappoint me and some that I wasn't all that interested in really surprise me, so you never can tell until you give it a shot. I love getting to read samples of things I may not normally pick up or things I don't even know about.
Thank you to Netgalley, Publishers Lunch BUZZ BOOKS, Kathryn Berla, Jen Lancaster, Gregory Scott, Sara Holland, Kwame Alexander, Mary Rand Hess, Will Kostakis, Melissa Bashardoust, Jessica Pennington, Marie Lu, Tochi Onyebuchi, and Lauren Miller for the chance to read and review this ARC;
I am such a big fan of the Buzz Book previews, that give teachers, reviewers, and librarians the ability to place their fingers on the pulse of newest, bring up and comers about to drop into the scene. I love this volume, and it is my newest favorite of them.
I'm crazy interested and already looking most to get my hands on copies of Solo (by Hess & Alexander) given it's all written gloriously in evocative poetry, in Girls Made of Snow and Glass (by Bashardhoust) as a glorious gripping feminist retelling of the story of the well-beloved Snow White, and Warcross (Lu) who has taken the VR game land and given it a gripping new tale.
I can't wait to see, and all of these books, in the coming fall/winter!
I love getting these previews!!!! These books give me a chance to see what is coming out soon and start my reading list. Thanks for publishing these!
Super excited for Warcross and Girls Made of Snow and Glass! I love when these samplers come out!
I don't like to read many YA novels so I love having these excerpts and reading to see what might be interesting. Before I Let Go sounds so good!
This is my first time checking out one of the Buzz Books compilations, and I'm so glad that I did! I learned about a lot of upcoming releases that I hadn't heard of, and they sound great. I also appreciate the "sorted by publisher" list, as it made it very simple to look up contact information to request ARCs for the ones that sounded interesting (which was well over half of the titles shown, for me). I'll be sure to check out the next Buzz Books YA compilation, too!
I loved the idea of this book, and it held up to my expectations it gave me an idea of books coming out that I might want to order for our library. The excerpts in the book were just enough to get you hooked and the mix of genres and types they chose to highlight were varied enough for all interests. I will make sure and check these out every season to see what is up and coming.
Buzz books is a great way to sample upcoming books and sample what you may be interested. The YA version focuses, of course, on YA. Unlike the general buzzfeeds, instead of being divided into three parts (Fiction, Debut and Non-fiction), there is no separation. The list of books is smaller but still plenty of synopsis and previews. Harlequin Teen was highly figured in this one. I’ll check some of these out, especially curious about Girls Made of Snow and Glass, a Snow White Retelling.
So beneficial to anyone who is in a position of pre-reading or purchasing books. It gives you just a glimpse of the book so you can decide if it is something you need to read or if you have enough to recommend to others.
Check out some new Young Adult titles that are forthcoming this Fall and Winter ... you can get a downloadable list of new books and also excerpts from writers like Kwame Alexander and Marie Lu at this link:

That page will also take you to previous Book Buzz editions so you may find some inspiration for your summer reading, too.
This is perfect! A little too many contemporary books, true, but it is summer and during summer contemps are wonderful. Very interesting choices. So glad Warcross was featured. I discovered many new titles.
A really good idea to advertise up and coming books. I found quite a few on there that I have now requested. Fingers crossed I get them. Unfortunately some of them are US only so UK citizens like myself are likely to get them but I will still add those to my shopping list for when they are released.
I look forward to this book every year. It's a fantastic introduction to authors I've not read before. Highly recommended.
BuzzBooks Publisher Launch is quickly becoming something I look forward to each month and season. They compile excerpts from wonderful soon to be published books for review all in a single location. It is always exciting and fun to discover upcoming offerings from favorite authors and learn about new talent emerging. My wish list grows with each edition! I'm especially excited about Girls Made of Snow and Glass by Melissa Bashardoust.
I just love Buzz Books! It's such a great way to learn more about upcoming titles, and to figure out which ones I'd be interested in pre-ordering.
I am SUPER excited about Beasts Made of Night and All Rights Reserved - both have such amazing, unique concepts! I'm also very excited for Warcross and intrigued about Everless. Glad I had the opportunity to read these excerpts!
There are SO many good books in this one to keep an eye out for, but the best surely must be the feminist retelling of Snow White - hells to the yes! Thank you, Publishers Lunch.
A good mix of upcoming YA fiction. This contained some well-known authors, as well as some newbies to the genre. While some of the books were definitely not to my liking, a few seem really interesting. I look forward to reading some of them in their entirety.
Great look at what's ahead. Particularly keen on Girls Made of Snow and Glass, but also a few others in there!
I love these Buzz Books samplers, There are always several books that I end up adding to my wishlist after going thru the various selections. Keep them coming!
This is a fantastic read for anyone looking for some new releases to sink their teeth into. Great samples of upcoming releases, and I already want to pick them up (even though some aren't out yet).
An excellent way to find your next read, and learn about some less-hyped releases at the same time.
A very intriguing experts from anticipated releases! Lots of new books on my TBR
Great look at some fantastic titles for the fall/winter season!
Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for providing me with a digital ARC of so many upcoming YA books. There are some truly wonderful and imaginative books coming out. This compilation was full of magic and exciting drama. I am most excited for “Warcross” by Marie Lu. So many patrons love Marie Lu’s previous work and I know they are going to love her newest story. Thank you for creating these compilations! They get me excited for each season and every new compilation.
A wonderful collaboration of books to look forward to as always from Buzz Books.
The ones I'm most looking forward to as a Fantasy lover are:
Girls Made of Snow and Glass - Melissa Bashardoust
Your One and Only - Adrianne Finlay
Everless - Sara Holland
All Rights Reserved - Gregory Scott Katsoulis
Warcross - Marie Lu
Beasts Made of Night - Tochi Onyebuchi
Thanks for the excerpts and links! There's a few here I may not have looked at otherwise!
Continuously one of the best resources available for voracious readers. Thank you!
Exceptionally useful for collection development. More than one book won me over, and it's nice to read a solid excerpt from more popular book that might be more difficult to receive in full ARC format. Worth downloading!
I have already requested several of these titles. June is going to be a hot month for YA readers!
Very helpful for looking at upcoming books, the excerpts are the perfect length to get an idea of a book before committing to reading it.
So many great titles! I'm super exited for WARCROSS by Marie Lu and BEASTS MADE OF NIGHT by Tochi Onyebuchi.
These books are great for seeing upcoming books and for getting ideas for placing orders for our library.
Wonderful! Love the excerpts from the books! Wish there were more.
This was a awesome preview of upcoming fall titles!!! There are 5 books previewed here that I can't wait to read and have requested on NG. Thanks for the Fall preview opportunity!!!
Buzz Books is always a treat to read! I love getting little previews of upcoming books I'm already anticipating as well as being introduced to new books and authors I had not previously known about!
I always enjoy the chance to read a Buzz Books book as it allows me to read excerpts of many books being published in the coming months, helping me to decide which ones I want to put on my reading list. As expected, this book of excerpts showed me several books that I'd like to read.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Publishers Lunch for enabling me to read this edition of Buzz Books!
Excellent resource! As a Bookseller, I find these excerpts extremely helpful in discussing books with customers.
Love getting to see a glimpse of the upcoming releases before they are even on Netflix. Gives me, the reviewer, a chance to know what I'm going to pick up to read before anyone else. I really enjoyed the books I read in th fall and winter edition of Buzz Books!
I love these little books. It's amazing how I can get the inside scoop on the upcoming releases.
This was great! So excited for some of these releases :)
Young adult is my all-time favorite genre, so this has definitely helped me discover some new books that I know I'd be interested in!
Another fabulous collection of upcoming books! Great to read the extracts but not good for my TBR!
I am so excited for a few of the books! I really appreciate the staff who puts these amazing guides together for us.
This is a collection of book samples not an actual book. All appeared well-written and interesting.
Buzz Books never disappoints--the format is wonderful and this year's selection of YA books is phenomenal! So many books to look forward to but I am especially excited for All Rights Reserved!!
I loved this and I can't wait to read the full books that are coming out
A lot of great YA books coming out this winter, and I can't wait to read them. Thank you for the collection!
I am very excited about All Rights Reserved. Great buzz - thank you for the introduction
Love this snap shot of the upcoming books for Fall and Winter. I find this soooooo very helpful when ordering books or placing them on request at the library. A win-win all the way around!
I love these Buzz Books, especially the Fall/Winter and Spring/Summer versions because they add a lot of books to my ever-growing TBR list! I've been on a YA-Fantasy kick lately, and several of the YA books in this collection sound very intriguing. Among those include "Girls Made of Snow and Glass" by Melissa Bashardoust ("Frozen" meets "The Bloody Chamber" in this reimagined version of "Snow White"); "Your One and Only" by Adrianne Finlay (a futuristic SciFi tale); and "Everless" by Sara Holland. I look forward to reading these books!
This is so helpful for bloggers to sift through the vasts amount of information and books. I love these books as a blogger and a reader. The excerpts, as well as the descriptions, are invaluable.
thanks for the heads up of so many new books coming out. I have already put several on my to be read list as well as requested here on NetGalley!
As always, I enjoy getting these free previews of the next best books. There are some very nice books coming up. I think I found a few I will enjoy and pass along my recommendations!
The only downside of reading this is I get so into the beginning of books only to realize that I can't read them for another few month. Great way for the Publisher to get me hooked on the book so that I'm sure to buy it once it releases.
They look so interesting and can't wait to read the full books
So many books to add to my pile of titles to read! I think I am most looking forward to the one set int he fictional town of Lost Alaska. I was hooked from the excerpt.
ARC provided by Publisher's Lunch via Netgally, but does not influence my review in any way.
I absolutely adore these YA excerpt collaborations. They fill my TBR with wonderful book goodness. I skimmed through all the stories, focusing mainly on the fantasy novels. I am very much looking forward to Melissa Bashardoust Girls Made of Snow and Glass, Adrianne Finlay's Your One and Only. Warcross by Marie Lu, Beasts made of Night by Taochi Oneybuchi and Everless by Sara Holland.
Jen Lancaster was featured in this collaboration and I really enjoy her memoirs. I may give her YA novel a try.
Another book that has piqued my interst was All Rights Reserved by Gregory Scott Katsoulis. I have a feeling this is going to be a book everyone will be talking about.
This is the first Buzz Books that I have read and I quite enjoyed it. I learned about new authors that I probably would not have been exposed to any other way and discovered an upcoming release for an author that I already adore. I love that after each excerpt the book and author info are listed letting you know the publication date. It is nice to create a list well in advance of the books to keep an eye out for. All of the excerpts were phenomenal and it is hard to pick which book I'm looking forward to the most.
I have never had a book like this, full of excerpts from authors that I personally have never read. It was so fun and I have definitely found some new authors whose work I will be following!
This is a great way to preview a number of books at one time. Having a couple of chapters to read in addition to the summary really gives one a much better feel for what the book will be like; the pace, mood, writing style, protagonist, etc. Usually once I start reading a book, I can't put it down until I finish, which gives me depth, but not breadth. This way, I'm forced to move on to the next book after a chapter or two, so I get a feel for more books in the same amount of time. I will choose a couple to read the full book, and I already spotted one that I know I will be recommending to a number of tweens & teens, including my hard to please son.
I really liked that this bundle included a variety of YA books. This was my first time requesting excerpts instead of an advanced copy, and I'm happy to say that I've added some new discoveries to my "to read" list! I'm really looking forward to EVERLESS and WARCROSS,
This is bad! I interest pick this books because I want Warcross preview but now I want to read almost of this books. So many good first chapters that made me curious!
This book has a great assortment of upcoming YA books. I really like how it is set up with the cover, summary, and an excerpt of each book. It is both helpful and comprehensive.
I'm excited for Girls Mae of Snow and Glass, Before I Let Go, and All Rights Reserved! Thank you for putting this collection of excerpt together! Can't wait until these books come out!
Great preview. There are lots of good books coming soon!
Wow, this was really helpful, how did I not know that this exists?!!
This is a great resource to find upcoming books that may be of interest to check out.
Most of these books sound absolutely amazing and I can't wait until they come out so I can read them. This little booklet is so amazing because I can learn more about up coming books, and I get turned onto new books that I haven't learned about until now. Thank You!
Good books coming soon! Looking forward to fall and winter cozy reading!
This is a great collection of excerpts of upcoming YA books for Fall/Winter 2017.
It contains an introduction followed by a list of BuzzBooks authors that appeared at BookExpo (Kwame Alexander, Gregory Katsoulis, Marie Lu, and Marieke Nijkamp). After that section there are excepts by publishers. I particularly enjoyed the excerpt for WARCROSS by Marie Lu.
Overall, a great list of buzzing YA titles for Fall/Winter 2017.
I'm looking forward to so many of these books! Especially All Rights Reserved - I can't wait to read the full story!
Buzz Books is one of my most useful tools as a librarian. I found books not yet on my radar I'll be sure to order. Thanks!
Always appreciate these compilations to help me determine what is best for me to spend my time reading!! I believe my book review blog is better for it! Thanks so much
I always love these samplers! It is a great way to see what is coming and to look out for!
Buzz Books always helps me decide what ARCs to request, thanks!
Young Adult is my favorite category to read from, and so many of these featured books seem so interesting. I'm glad to have added some of these to my to be read list!
As usual, buzz books has included some many amazing book excerpts. I have added quite a few to my tbr.
Always thankful to have these! Thanks, Netgalley for creating these lists!
It can be difficult to find the right book for middle schoolers who are still young but are also advanced readers. This is a great way to check out the appropriateness of upcoming titles for this age group!
A good way to get to know upcoming books and a nice selection of different authors and genres.
Requested Buzz Books to see what new titles are emerging in the YA market. Although a book written in poetic verse is not something I would normally be drawn to, Kwame Alexander's Solo both intrigued and lured me in to the story of Blade Morrison, the 17 year old main character. The excerpt available introduced you to his addiction riddled father Rutherford, girlfriend, and worries for his Mom, in a way that made you skip through the pages without realising & Solo is a title I will certainly be looking out for.
In a totally different vein, Melissa Bashardoust's Girls Made Of Snow And Glass is described as a feminist retelling of The Snow White fairytale, but is by no means predictable. You are first introduced to Lynet, a young princess living in a castle, observing co.ings and goings and avoiding her music lessons like children are want to do, before Mina, a magician's daughter who goes on to be Lynet's stepmother enters the story. Her heart of glass was an unexpected twist to the description of her father Gregory's laboratory and made me seek to purchase the full book.
Unusually for me, The House at 758 by Kathryn Berla was something I just could not engage with. The early desceiption building up to Krista's attempts to deal with her father moving his new girlfriend in just weren't drawing me in.
Great way to find out what books are on the horizon and plan your reading list accordingly.
Really great taster of the novels to come in the future
So many exciting titles to look forward to. It is always a joy to get the latest installment of Buzz Books to see whats coming out. I am particularly looking forward to the Jen Lancaster book and also some of the Sci-fi books were interesting despite it not being a genre I go for much. I guess that's the whole point of Buzz books.
Great preview book found a few books to order for my library
I always really enjoy these little snipets of works to come! Amazing if you want to know what will come out soon
These are are awesome excerpts in a great format. Perfect for reviewers. I can't wait to read a lot of these books.
All of the books were fantastic and I will definitely be reading them fully
This has really helped expand my reading list for the rest of the year. I love discovering new authors and books in genres I love!
I love these books. They are great tools that help me decide what to buy and promote.
I love getting to preview a lot of upcoming titles -- both to talk about them with library patrons and to decide what I want to read myself! As a librarian, I don't have time to read every new release but patrons (especially teens!) like to talk to me about them anyway, and these samplers make me more conversant on a number of different titles.
Excited to see all the new books coming out. Thank you Buzz Books for an easy way to get them all in one place!
I'm a big Young Adult (YA) fan. I never know what books are coming up and I'm always having problems saving the funds for a book I have to have. This is great for those who want to plan ahead. You get a snippet of the book and you get to see the prices. If the book wasn't what you were hoping, you don't feel upset after purchasing the book. Great to have.
Solo – Kwame Alexander
This excerpt could be very powerful in the right hands. It was very deep at times and could easily be related to by teens and adults. Some sections were a little erratic and didn’t seem to flow well together, but that may have been how the formatting was set up on the kindle edition. It is a conundrum as to whether or not to purchase for the library as Alexander is a popular author, yet books in poetry are almost impossible to get off the shelves unless assigned.
Girls Made of Snow and Glass – Melissa Bashardoust
This is an interesting start to the Snow White story that appears to give a detailed background of the evil queen. The writing was well done and immediately gave the characters depth and meaning. This is a popular theme recently, but may get lost in the abundance of alternate fairy tales out there.
The House at 758 – Kathryn Berla
I was not immediately sold on this story after the first chapter. I felt that there needed to be a little more revealed to get the reader excited about this mysterious house and why it means so much to Krista. So far, she appears to just be a whiney teenager that is grieving for her lost mother. It is clear that this will be a story of coming to terms with life and its downfalls, yet I do not think that Krista’s character is sympathetic enough to make readers follow along.
Your One and Only – Adrianne Finlay
This title is a little hard to grasp from such a short excerpt. The characters were a little confusing, except for Jack, which immediately separates you from the “normal” people in the novel. I felt that I could get more of a handle on the same few names with different numbers, but it simply wasn’t comfortable at the beginning. The concept of this future world was intriguing and I would like to see where Finlay was intending to go with it. The writing appeared to be solid, with a large background, but the setting was limited. Needed more to make a decision.
Everless – Sara Holland
The writing of this excerpt was easy to read and follow, with a clear purpose and history. There is tension, action, humor, and backstory all rolled into the first chapter. I look forward to reading the rest of this tile and seeing where this story takes her.
All Rights Reserved – Gregory Scott Katsoulis
This new world is a little confusing and extremely farfetched. From the first chapter, it is clear that the message the author wanted to get through to the reader is that our reliance on consumerism and ease at being taken over by brands is dangerous. Getting the parents out of the way, to create a pseudo orphan situation, by says they owe six million dollars for a generations old fine is quite ridiculous. The authors thoughts are there, but the story, at least this first section, is too far out there and preposterous for even a teen to get into. Maybe a history lesson as to why things are the way they are would have been a better entrance to this story. I did not connect with the main character, as I was too distracted by everything else going on around her.
The Sidekicks – Will Kostakis
This first glimpse at the novel was both exciting and a little off putting. The loss of their best friend was rough on all three boys, yet they have a long way to go to become friends themselves. It seems a little far-fetched that they are not friends at all to begin with and this would take a lot of the novel to explain why. That aside, adding in the mischief at the beginning draws in a reader and gives them more shenanigans to look forward to.
The Gatekeepers – Jen Lancaster
I was not fully impressed with this excerpt. There was not a lot of detail in the characters and I was not sure, by the end of the second chapter, as to where this novel was trying to go or what angle the author was trying to portray. The setting of an upper class neighborhood was laid out nicely. The people in them clear, yet do not have definition at this point. I could see this as being a read for those who delve into the teen angst genre, yet without more from the book, it is hard to tell.
Warcross – Marie Lu
This title has an interesting concept but was slow going in the beginning. From the few chapters available, the actual game was not seen which makes me leery as to the rules, play, and action that will follow in the novel. The world and character building is strong, but a little long winded and repetitive. I am anxious to see Lu’s take on the online/immersive game that has been proposed.
All Things New – Lauren Miller
This brief look into Miller’s novel is a great look at the effects of anxiety on teens in this era. The writing was well done form the inside of our heroine’s head. We was what she did and felt her fears and anxieties. It was interesting to see the dynamics from this perspective. The chapter was fast paced and moved into a plotline quickly.
Before I Let Go – Marieke Nijkamp
Corey is reeling from the death of her best friend in this excerpt. There is a mystery as to how and why this death occurred. I’m not sure how an entire town can have such a large reaction to, as what most people see as a manageable disease, bipolar disorder, but I suppose that is part of the quirkiness that will be explained as the novel goes on. The characters are given depth with thorough descriptions and flashbacks. I liked the hints of mystery as new characters sidestepped questions and gave unexpected answers. Will definitely look for the full novel.
Beasts Made of Night – Tochi Onyebuchi
This was a very short excerpt, but definitely caught my attention. This is a very different and very intriguing idea. The process is somewhat explained, but was cut off right before we would have been able to experience it. The writing was very fluid and attention grabbing. I only fear that this may not be fully formed with necessary details and explanations for such a new and complex world. hard to tell in just one chapter.
Love Songs and Other Lies – Jessica Pennington
This was a great beginning to what could be a wonderful crossover book from young adult into adult fiction. The characters are a bit older than normal in a young adult novel and will most likely go through some situations that many older teens are about to face themselves. It was a good lead up to a romance novel driven from a heartbreak. I like the present and past switch in chapters and hope that continues throughout the novel.
This Buzzbooks edition included excerpts from 2017's most anticipated reads including Girls Made of Snow and Glass and Warcross. I exceptionally loved the Warcross snippet and am even more excited for the release of it.
I love Young Adult books. I never know what books are coming out unless i watch my favorite youtubers. So this is great for those who want to plan ahead. You get a preview of the book and you get to see the prices. There are so many books that after reading the previews i'm super excited for them to come out! :) This is a great book to have when planning for future books!
This is such a useful tool for book bloggers. All these books look great, can't wait for Fall!
This is an excellent selection of Young Adult titles to get excited about. I'm definitely going to be reading and reviewing a lot of the full books!
I love reading BuzzBooks Samplers! I always find new and interesting reads for my TBR shelf! In this sampler set, I am really excited for Girls Made of Snow and Glass as I have heard many good things about it.
Looking to find out what books the teens at your library will be asking for next season? Look no further. This is a great collection of upcoming titles that will help you with almost all of your readers' advisory needs.
As usual a brilliant advanced guide to upcoming autumn releases. Useful guide for those who have a book budget in libraries,s books etc and bloggers, influences to request and promote on their channels
My first experience with Buzz Books! A wonderful way to discover new talent and upcoming authors aswell as getting a sneek peek at highly anticipated titles by favourite writers. I only wish I had discovered this publication earlier. A highlight in this edition has to be Kwame Alexander's 'Solo'. I wouldn't normally have picked up a novel in poetic verse but having the extract in front of me meant I discovered how much I enjoyed reading it and will definitely be reaching for more.
Great collection of excerpts. I was especially interested in Warcross by Marie Lu and Girls Made of Snow and Glass by Melissa Bashardoust. However I found a few other gems which I plan on checking out soon.
I found this to be great for recommendations towards myself and others. I liked how you could read the first chapter as that is usually what brings me into the book, if I am past 3 chapters and I am still not feeling great about it then I probably wont continue. What I also found great is it has different genres in and you could request to read the full version.
I thought this book was great! It got me really excited for some of the books coming out, but some aren't in my interests. I did love how it was just little excerpts so it was more like reading short stories.
I am a little late to the party with this one (it's September and this sampler came out in May for these Fall books), but I thought I'd check out this sampler from NetGalley as I enjoyed getting a preview with another similar excerpt round-up. Plus I'm a new reviewer so it was something I could get my hands on!
There are so many great books coming out in the YA category at the moment, so some of these books are already getting buzz (even without sending out samplers) and for some, it may be easy to get lost in the fray. There's a pretty broad range of books here (13 in all!) so there's something for everyone. Here are some standouts:
'Solo' (Kwame Alexander) - This obviously will not be the right book for everyone, and you can tell that immediately when you start reading the poetic verse. It's a coming-of-age story, written in song, about a teenager called Blade Morrison and from seeing the buzz around this book, this might be one I would actually prefer to go the audio route; it's narrated by the author, which is something I love, and would help with any struggle with the fact that it's verse/poetry. Actually reading along at the SAME TIME as hearing it would be amazing too, because I think this might just be a groundbreaker, and it may be easy to dismiss this one based on it being verse. Perfect for music and poetry lovers. Fascinating.
'Girls Made of Snow & Glass' (Melissa Bashardoust) - This is one of those that has had a lot of buzz around it; for me, I was initially drawn in by the simplicity of that beautiful monochromatic cover design of the icicles! Stunning. 'Snow & Glass' is described as a 'feminist fantasy reimagining of the Snow White Fairytale'; although we've had quite a few retellings of fairytales of late, what I hear is that this is a complex and magical look at the relationship between stepdaughter/stepmother and this is NOT a damsel-in-distress story (thank goodness). The excerpt is a slow introduction into the story but I would love to read this one in its entirety.
'All Rights Reserved' (Gregory Scott Katsoulis) - The title sticks with me right away (I'm a photographer), and it's honestly genius with respect to the premise of the book. Set in a world where every word and gesture is copyrighted (are we that far off?), a girl called Speth chooses to stay silent in protest, and refuses to speak, rather than to pay every time she opens her mouth. When I read this synopsis I immediately began to think about the current day's debates over the right to protest, and THEN the excerpt immediately starts with references to suicide (so trigger warning right away); I know pretty quickly this is not going to be the book for everyone either. Quite a bit of controversial content and lots to talk about. I want to keep reading this dystopian novel as I'd love to see how Speth navigates this frustrating world.
'Warcross' (Marie Lu) - Without a doubt, this was/would have been/is the highlight for me, and by this point, I'm happy to say I've read the book. I read a sampler ahead of time, and preordered the book; after picking it up, I had read it by the next night. Had I not had photos to go take, a dog to walk, and my child to keep alive, I expect I would have read it quicker! Needless to say, I devoured Warcross faster than just about anything I've read of late. While this is about a teenage hacker and a virtual-reality game that has taken over the world, which before this, wouldn't sound like anything I would read, this book is amazing. The imagery and plot take you to a colorful and exciting world very quickly and you become so immersed in it that suddenly Marie Lu has you wanting Book 2 (and she says it's in the works) immediately upon finishing. LOVED it. And all because I read the sampler.
'Beasts Made of Night' (Tochi Onyebuchi) - The short excerpt that I read in this sampler was one that I had been looking forward to reading for a while (the book, which is about dark magic, appropriately debuts on Halloween). The book is set the city of Kos, where a young sin-eater called Taj wrestles with his livelihood and his desires; this novel immediately throws you into the Taj's world, and you can just sense this will be a book filled with rich imagery, complex world-building, and I have high expectations for vivid fantasy and great characters. I hope the buzz delivers!
*Thanks for making my book list even longer!
Note: The whole of this excerpt edition can be found at buzz.publishersmarketplace.com
Great selection of books for young adults. Can't wait to read them all.
I love, love, love the idea of putting together a "sampler" book! There were some really great stories in here and ones that I know now I will not be interested in reading. The one I liked the best was Girls Made of Snow and Glass. although there were some other pretty good choices. I would absolutely read another book like this!
I loved reading & getting the previews of some awesome YA books! I was sad that it was only a chapter or two as my interest was piqued, but I requested on NetGalley and added to my TBR list. Thank you to NetGalley for my copy.
Really loved seeing excerpts from new and upcoming books. I will be looking out for these Buzz Books publications more frequently! Everless and Girls Made of Snow and Glass are definitely on my radar now.
I love the buzz books! Please keep them coming as they are such a great way to find out about upcoming titles and help me to stay ahead of my YA students.
Buzz Books are my favourite things to request on NetGalley. With another excellent pick of books to showcase, this edition has made my TBR expand. The excerpts are perfect and I will definitely be reading a few of these books when they come out. I didn't love all of the excerpts, but that's to be expected as everyone has different tastes. I can't wait for the next YA Buzz Books to come out.
Never disappointed by Buzz Books! I always find the best titles and end up loving most of them.
Always a great read. Looking forward to reading more than just a preview for some of these.
Thanks for the opportunity to dip in and out of this buzz books sampler.
Such a fabulous resource for YA adult fiction coming up towards the end of 2017. A must read for those into YA titles. Great as always.
I like most of the books being featured in this book. Books within a book. Cool. It contains 1 or 2 chapters of each featured book. It’s nice that you get to read a chapter or two to get the feel of the book and the writing style of the author before buying a book instead of just the blurb and summary to decide.
Great edition of Buzz Books. So helpful to book bloggers. Thanks!
there are so many good titles coming out this fall and winter. I am so excited for all of them.
I really enjoy reading every issue of Buzz Books because every time I find many interesting books to add to my TBR. In this edition of Buzz Books 2017 Young Adult: Fall/Winter i discovered books that had heard and after reading an excerpt from it I added it immediately to my TBR. I also found books that I didn't know but I look forward to learn more about them and read them.
I loved this edition of Buzz Books 2017: YA. I feel like it encompassed a wide variety of YA subgenres including some that I would never have looked past the cover of. It also made me really hungry to read some of the upcoming releases such as Everless and Your One & Only. I really look forward to future editions of this catalogue.
Great to read about the upcoming stories this Fall and Winter. Can't wait until the books finally come out !!
Helpful as always! I hope this compilation will continue into the future. I find the combination of summary and excerpts to be great in my selection responsibilities.
Excellent samples! I'm looking forward to reading many of these titles.
Always fantastic! A great resource for anyone buying or recommending books!
Can't wait to pick some of these books up, this is such a great way to try out a book to see if it's for you.
Why have I never seen this before?
This glimpse into upcoming books is just heaven......but it's also hell!
Tidbits of books to draw you in, you salivate over the sublime book offerings.....and then, bang, it ends!
Seriously though, I will be on the look out for these in the months to come so I can add these beautiful books to my book countdown app.
Fabulous, just fabulous.
Great selection and mix! Love getting a preview of what is coming!
As always, Buzz Books is a great reference for all that's coming and helps me plan ahead.
I always love this series, it's so helpful to get an idea of what is coming and to get to read a chapter. I will always download these!
What a great resource! Thank you for the previews! So many exciting titles. My TBR pile just got huge.
A great overview of the new seasons upcoming YA releases.
This is a nice sampler with lots of titles. As of December 2017, many have already been released, although some are still to come in the next winter months. (For example, Marie Lu's Warcross - I have already read the full book and it's great!)
I was glad to see an excerpt of Melissa Bashardoust's GIRLS MADE OF SNOW AND GLASS - although it's already released, I haven't picked it up yet. The excerpt made me more interested in purchasing a copy.
Overall this sampler is helpful for deciding new books to review, read and request!
I love the idea of this and I will definitely be on the lookout for the next Buzz Books. It's a lovely idea as a smorgasbord of YA fiction to sample, as I often find myself sticking to authors I already know or books I know friends have recommended. Some of my favourites included Girls Made of Snow and Glass (you had me at feminist fantasy reimagining), The House at 758 (so relatable and emotionally impactful), The Sidekicks (Again, hit me right in the feels, but really funny and intriguing) and The Gatekeepers.
I have already read another Buzz Books YA this year, so I was excited to check out the new releases in fall and winter. However, this time, most samplers didn't really make me want to read more. The ones I really want to read are Everless and All Rights Reserved. I was also thinking about reading Girls Made of Snow and Glass, but after the sampler, not so much anymore. So it was still helpful in making my decisions.
I like the concept of Buzz Books very much and recommend it to anyone who wants a quick overview over upcoming releases and to find out which books to request/buy. I also like that there are many different genres and types of young adult books (I think there was also one written in free verse?) and both big and smaller publishers.
I received Buzz Books YA Fall/Winter 2017 via Netgalley.
I really do love seeing these samplers go up every couple of months so I can get a taste for what's coming out soon/what I can currently request on NetGalley.
Book Review
Title: Buzz Books 2017: Young Adult Fall/Winter: Exclusive Excerpts from Forthcoming Titles by Kwame Alexander, Jen Lancaster, Marie Lu, Marieke Nijkamp and More
Author: Publishers Lunch
Genre: Various
Rating: ****
Review: The buzz books collection is a collection of excerpts from upcoming authors and amazing authors with new books coming out. Some of these books I have ARC’s of but haven’t read yet. If you have read any of these books, I’d love for you to drop your thoughts in the comments section.
Solo by Kwame Alexander with Mary Rand Hess – Solo is a book that has caught my eye for a while now, so I was very excited to read the excerpt. We meet the protagonist Blade as he talks about his life, he talks a lot about Chapel his girlfriend who I believe for what he has said might be asexual as she seems to have no interest in those sorts of activities. He also talks about his father Rutherford who loves the spotlight as a musician. He talks about the lifestyle his father had with all the parties and how he used to make them laugh by drinking their booze as a small child but one night he accidently ingested some cocaine and ended up in hospital while his father was arrested. These opening pages were great, and I will definitely be reading this very soon.
Girls made of Snow and Glass by Melissa Bashardoust – Girls made of Snow and Glass is a reimagining of Snow White with strong feminist themes and possibly an f/f romance, so I was hooked from the blurb alone. We meet Lynet who is a princess who hates being treated as a delicate flower and almost immediately becomes enamoured with the new female palace surgeon. We also meet Mina, whose father is an alchemist and an outcast but when he saves Lynet’s life during her birth, he takes his daughter to live at court, but Mina doesn’t want to leave her house and Gregory reveals to her why she must follow his orders. Definitely a very gripping excerpt and I will be picking up the full novel as soon as I can.
The House at 758 by Kathryn Berla – In this excerpt we meet Krista who is grieving after the death of her mother almost a year after the actual event. Krista seems to be stuck in a phase of her life she can’t get out of, her father has moved on and left her to deal with these complex emotions by herself. As her best friend goes away for the summer Krista’s feeling of anxiety only get worse, but she is obsessed with a strange run down house number 758 for reasons she doesn’t reveal yet. However, in her grief Krista finds herself sinking to shop lifting in order to feel the way she did when her mother was alive. While the premise of this novel was good, and the writing is pretty good, it just didn’t really grab my attention enough for me to buy a copy of it.
Your One & Only by Adrianne Finlay – In Your one & only we Althea-310 who part of a series of 10 Althea clones made from genetic material of humans after the homo sapiens died out and the homo factus grew in number. Despite being identical to her sisters bare a single scar Althea-310 is quite the outcast until Jack arrives at school and he is a human like the originals. For the offset Jack is bullied and outcast by the other kids especially the Carson range who think they are better than everyone else, but they soon learn their lesson that humans are far more dangerous and vicious than they had ever seen before. I really liked this novel and will definitely be picking it up very soon.
Everless by Sara Holland – In this excerpt we are introduced to the land of Sempera and our protagonist Jules and in Sempera time itself is the currency of the land. If any of you have seen the move In Time this was the sort of vibe I was getting. Jules is trying to get time together in order to pay the Gerling family for the rent they owe but her father has been selling his time and doesn’t have long left to life. News of Lord Gerling’s wedding to Ina Gold, ward of the Queen spreads quickly and one of Jules’ friends Amma is heading to Everless a place Jules remembers. A place she and her father ran away from but when her father’s time is running out and they have bills and debts to pay Jules knows what she has to do to save her only family.
All Right Reserved by Gregory Scott Katsoulis – Now this is a book I have being seeing some rave reviews for, so I was really excited to get into this excerpt. So, in this world every word and gesture is copyrighted, patented or trademarked meaning people have to pay the Rights Holders so almost every word they use. We also meet our protagonist Speth, who is about to turn 15 and lose her free speech and as the seconds tick down she realises that she doesn’t like the system that everyone seems to accept so easily especially after she bumps into Beecher. Beecher used to be her best friend until he turned 15 and when she meets him a few years later on her 15th birthday he kisses her for which he receives an electric shock as he doesn’t have enough money to pay for this kiss, then commits suicide and I feel this will set Speth upon her path of silence. I was super intrigued by this novel and I can’t wait to read the rest of it.
The Sidekicks by Will Kostakis – In this excerpt we are introduced to Ryan, Harley and Miles who aren’t friends, but all were best friends with Isaac. The story opens with the boys learning about Isaac’s death in an accident, and things only gets darker from there. The boys break into Isaac’s locker to find a bag of cash while belongs to one of the other boys so there is a mystery surrounding that, but we also learn that Ryan might be gay. This novel really reminded me of Adam Silvera’s writing so I will definitely be picking it up soon.
The Gatekeepers by Jen Lancaster – So this book has been compared to 13 reasons why by Jay Asher but centres around a small town where one teen suicide turns into several teen suicides. We are introduced to Mallory an extremely sporty young woman just living her normal life although she does seem rather obsessed especially about her diet. While not a lot happens in this excerpt the premise about a group who get together to try and prevent the large amount of teen suicides happening in their town really intrigued me.
Warcross by Marie Lu – Now, I actually one an ARC of Warcross but haven’t picked it up yet so this was a critical excerpt for me. So, according to the blurb Warcross is a game and Emika Chen is a hacker who hunts down people who bet illegally on the game only to end a part of it, colour me interested. We follow Emika as she takes down an illegal better only to learn that she won’t get the payment because someone else phoned in the call before her leaving her with minimal money and one hell of a grudge. This is one of the best excerpts I have read in a long time and as a massive fan of Lu’s legend trilogy I will definitely pick Warcross up very soon.
All Things New by Lauren Miller – This story follows Jessa Gray who suffers with panic attacks, points for mental health rep. On her way to a new year’s party she fights with her boyfriend Wren who really doesn’t understand what it like to date someone with anxiety. After calming down, she tries to find Wren only to discover him in bed with a girl called Lex instead of confronting them she runs away to go home and gets in a car accident. This novel was really gripping from the offset and this is a must read for me.
Before I Let Go by Marieke Nijkamp – Again, I own an ARC of Before I let go but have not picked it up yet story of my life, right? So, this is Corey’s story as she returns home to Lost Creek, Alaska after her best friend Kyra died in a supposed accident, but Corey smells something suspicious about Kyra’s death from the second she heard about it. After returning to Lost Corey knows things are different and strange but the strangest thing is that she is seeing and hearing Kyra all around and I have a feeling that this novel will have a story paranormal element to go along with the mystery element and I will be picking this up soon – I feel as though I am repeating myself but hey I try.
Beasts Made of Night by Tochi Onyebuchi – This is another book I have seen around a lot and never read so I was excited to learn what it was about. This novel is set in the city of Kos where mages can magically call forth sin from a sinner in the form of sin-beasts—lethal creatures spawned from feelings of guilt. Taj is the most talented of the aki, young sin-eaters indentured by the mages to slay the sin-beasts and I was very intrigued by the blurb alone. We learn that when aki kill sin-beast, the image of the beast is forever marked on their skin. The aki are outcast from their society because of their gift but it is a gift needed. So, when Taj is called to the palace to eat the sin of a royal when another aki Jai failed he knows he is in for a challenge. The hype about this book is right and I will have to buy it very soon.
Love Songs & Other Lies by Jessica Pennington – So from the blurb this is a novel about Virginia Miller also known as Vee, a summer romance and second chances. It seems like your typical YA contemporary which isn’t something I read at all although I have been recommend a few books by Morgan Matson, maybe this excerpt can change my opinion on YA contemporary romance novels. The contrast between the past and present is pretty good and sets up the conflict and ultimate resolution that is going to come between the characters so it seems like something I might enjoy as it is heavily centred around music, so I might be able to get onboard with it but I’ll have to think on it.
So much great YA coming out in for Fall/Winter 17! I can't wait to read more of these.
As always, this Buzz Books is full of books with gorgeous covers and intriguing concepts. I had actually already managed to get my hands on a few of the books that they previewed (EVERLESS IS AMAZING AND EVERYONE SHOULD READ IT). The books that I had not read, but that instantly made the climb to the top of my TBR list are:
The Sidekicks: A book about three teenage boys who share a mutual friend, and the way their lives proceed after the death of that mutual friend. I'm a sucker for heart breaking books and this sounds like it will do just that.
The House at 758: If the concept of a heartbroken girl observing a strange house doesn't catch your attention, the gorgeous minimalist cover will.
Last but not least- I HAVE to get my hands on a copy of Jen Lancaster's The Gatekeepers. The Gatekeepers tells the story of a group of teenagers that takes it upon themselves to prevent any more suicides in their school. It sounds amazing- and once again heartbreaking. I can't resist.
