Thanks to NetGalley for providing this ebook for review. What a wonderful addition to your Christmas traditions with children. The content and illustrations are interesting, colorful, happy and humorous. Highly recommend.
The idea of Advent is to prepare for Christmas. This is exactly what Santa does in this book. Each day he has another task that either he, Mrs. Santa or the elves must do to get ready for the big night of delivering the presents. The idea is to read a short story (very short) of something that helps prepare them for Christmas. I would read this and then have my grandson open the day on the Advent Calendar. The illustrations are cute and will delight the little ones. A great addition to a family holiday library. The publisher generously provided me with a copy of this book via Netgalley.
This book is a delight! It is full of bright, colorful illustrations that capture the humor of the story and the spirit of Christmas. The book works like an advent calendar with an activity or job to be done each day in December for Santa to be prepared to deliver presents. This would be a great title to add to the home collection for the holidays.
This is such a fun idea and different twist on the Advent idea leading up to Christmas day. Every day adults and kids can read a story together to count down the days until Santa comes. The stories talk about how the Claus’ and Elves prepare for Christmas which can also provide a chance for people to talk about what preparations they make in their own family.
The only negative I see is children have been ‘trained’ to flip pages to read the stories so having them focus and understand you have to stick to just one page might cause a little confusion. If you have multiple kids and let them take turns reading a story each day that might make it a bit easier but it’s one of those try it out and see what happens things.
This illustrations are beautiful, festive, colorful and absolutely perfect accompaniments to the stories.
Lovely book with really nice pictures. A great way to build up the excitement before Christmas. I must say I think this is a book that must be read as a physical book to see it in its full glory!
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an arc copy in exchange for an honest review.
I love the idea of this book, 24 stories to read, one day at a time, leading up to Christmas. The stories tell of how Mr & Mrs Claus and the elves prepare for Christmas. The illustrations are delightful, but I foresee the problem with this book being the need to stick to one page per day. Reading books with children, half the fun for them is turning the page and looking at the next picture, so trying to get a child to focus on one page and that be it for the day, may be a little tricky! It's a lovely idea though.
Some bits of text are easier to read than others, i.e. black text on white background, whereas black text on blue is harder to read. A minor detail, but one that makes a difference.
Overall though, this is a great idea for the run-up to Christmas.
Wow, such a cute book. I love anything Christmas so it was no surprise that I loved this book! A countdown to Christmas is exactly what I need. I am adamant my kids will enjoy this book also. Thanks Netgalley. Will look for this one in hard copy for keeping.
This is a terrific book for parents and kids to read every night during the month of December. Each day there is a little story about the goings-on at the North Pole as Christmas draws near. Some days Santa is making cookies, some days making toys. He is also checking out those naughty and nice lists, but no fear. There are so many good boys and girls this year! This is the kind of book that will come out year after year on the first of December.
I obtained this book from Net Galley and have left an honest review.
This is so much better than an Advent calendar. The children will be wanting to hear a new story every night before Christmas. What a great idea! Love it!
Fab book. loved reading it to my children who just loved it and want me to buy it
Santa’s Countdown to Christmas is like an advent calendar of stories for children. Each day you see Santa deal with something new….. Will his suit fit him this year? Will they have enough toys?
What I loved is that each day although a story in its own right flowed quite nicely into the next day and each story has a charming illustration to accompany it. I think my favourite character has to be Tec the Elf who comes up with one madcap invention after another in an attempt to modernise Santa and his operation.. not always very successfully.
The stories will make you smile but you may just have a problem getting your child to wait until the next day to find out what happens. You may not be able to persuade them to have this instead of the chocolate advent calendar we all love but it would be a welcome addition to it.
A lovely short story to share during December as a countdown to Christmas Day. Follow Santas journey into getting reading to deliver all the presents.
I enjoyed this book but I wasn't a huge fan of Santa giving pets to children for Christmas... and I have marked the book down from 5 stars to 4 stars for this, after all the advertising that a dog is for life not for Christmas I didn't really expect to see them being given as presents!! Other than that the images were lovely and the story was very easy to follow and I thought that countdown idea was great as you could read a page each evening - 4 stars from me
An Advent calendar type book that day by day tells a story of how Santa is preparing for Christmas Eve. The cute picture scenes and the way Santa interacts with his elves are entertaining for the little ones.
It is a Christmas tale about what Santa does from December 1st to the 24th. It's almost like a Christmas Advents Calendar but in book format. Each Day Santa has a new story or thing to handle in the story. You also get some pretty pictures of Santa and his friends throughout the book. Its overall gives you a great Christmas vibe and beauty. I would recommend this for anyone who wants get Christmas books for the little ones. Now onto my final thoughts on this book.
This book illustrations are amazing, they alone are 5 out of 5 stars. Then the story is adorable and totally 5 out of 5 stars. They illustrations bring such life to the words of the story. Santa’s Stories or problems are so cute and simple but would appeal to any little kid. It's just a great book to read all of December. You can take the book down off the shelf each day and read that days section to the kids. I can’t wait to get this book myself for the kids even though I have read the Arc because my kids will enjoy the book each year. I believe all kids would enjoy this each year, especially the little ones. It's a great Christmas fun filled buy like the ELF on the shelf.
This was a great child's novel. My nephews loved it! Great for the holidays and a must read for Christmas time. Children will definitely enjoy listening to this one read by a loved one!
Christmastime means Christmas stories, and what’s sweeter than a well-crafted, fun and festive children’s book with an unusual twist? It presents itself as some sort of advent calendar, an original touch. One page a day to follow Santa’s preparation with the elves until the big day. The story is light and heartwarming, although I doubt children would really wait patientely for 24 days to read the next page.
Recommended!
A great book to build up to the excitement of Christmas for children. So much better than an Advent calendar. This book has the child involved, the colors, illustrations, and the anticipation for the next day is fantastic. A book that will be handed down through many family generations.
Thank you Netgalley for allowing me to review this book.
Advent calendars have changed a great deal over the past 40 years, they've been the traditional Christian images depicting the story of the season, to ones containing sweet and then even to have candles, beer and a range of consumerisms finest. More recently, a trend of giving a book a day for advent has been doing the rounds, a great, if expensive, idea. This book put that all in one book with a story a day for advent. The language used in the book is engaging and supportive of good reading. It promotes the good things about the holiday season and encourages youngsters to give without thought of receiving. A real book to be read with and to the whole family, a book for all ages.
Everybody knows advent calendars. My kids love those with chocolate. But they will love this one too: an advent calendar of Christmas stories. These tell us how Santa, the elves, and the reindeers are preparing themselves for the big day, Christmas day. The stories, thought extremely short, are very amusing. The illustrations help to turn this book into a very fun reading. I think it will add to the pleasure and excitement of kids waiting for Christmas day.
I absolutely love this book! I am definitely going to purchase the hard cover copy for my son to have this year for the Christmas season! I really like how it gives children a visual of all the things Santa has to do to prepare for Christmas Eve and I love that it emphasizes that Santa and the elves read every letter kids send him.
I think this book could really come to be considered a classic. Its so cute and the story is perfect for young Santa Claus believers. I can see children saying things like "It's December 10th so Santa and the elves are testing the huggability of the stuffed animals".
In a day and age where it seems children are growing up so fast and losing their imagination earlier and earlier, I think they need more books like these to nourish those fading imaginations.
I highly recommend this book to parents during the holiday season and as I said I will be introducing it to my son on the first of December.
Wonderful way to countdown to Christmas. We will be reading a little story from this book next year and it will be a new tradition. Cute stories they are great for the family.
My daughter and I loved reading this in the lead up to Christmas! Fantastic!
Very nice for all children. A good choice to read right after Thanksgiving.
Santa’s Countdown to Christmas is the PERFECT book to read with your kids, while they anxiously await Christmas Day to get here. The illustrations are so great, and the story is too! This is definitely going to be a Christmas book staple in our house- and knowing my kids, it’ll be a year round staple!
Yay Holiday Books! This is a great idea for a holiday book. It takes the advent calendar we all love so much and is a book version. Each day/night you have a bit more to read about how Santa prepares for his journey around the world.
What I liked about this book was the advent calendar feel - I didn't read it like that but thought it was a really good idea for parents and kids reading together each night. However, some of the days were very short excerpts which was a little sad.
The sections have illustrations as well, of what Santa and his elves are up to and overall I thought this was a very creative book for the holiday season.
This is the kind of book that I wish was available a few years ago when my son was little as I am sure he would have loved this holiday book. This would make the perfection addition to a child's holiday reading or story time
This was a really cute Christmas-y story and I loved the "advent calendar" setup. It would be perfect for actually reading one "day" of the story per evening with your kid, to get them hyped up for Christmas and Santa Claus!
