Description
You'll find exclusive excerpts of seven titles due for publication during the month of October in this sampler. At the end of most excerpts, you will find a link to the full galley on NetGalley!
First up is The Prague Sonata by seasoned novelist Bradford Morrow, an epic musical detective story, and only fitting that we include the audio excerpt. Audio also accompanies Sarah Bailey’s debut suspense thriller The Dark Lake, set in Australia, and Life Detonated by Kathleen Murray Moran, a memoir about recovering from her husband’s death by a terrorist act.
Other debuts include Francesca Hornak’s family comedy, Seven Days of Us and screenwriter Phil Harrison’s The First Day, which starts in Belfast with an affair.
In nonfiction, neurologist Gayatri Devi’s The Spectrum of Hope: An Optimistic and New Approach to Alzheimer’s Disease and Other Dementias does exactly what the title promises. Where the Past Begins is a creative autobiography by bestselling novelist Amy Tan.
Finally, be sure to listen to Armistead Maupin’s audio version of his new memoir about growing up in the South and moving to San Francisco.

Yay Buzz Books! I always love seeing the new titles coming out.
Buzz Books Monthly is one of those resources book lovers adore. There's a list of all the upcoming releases by week, excerpts, publishing information, links, and more.
It really is invaluable and a must-read for anyone into books!
When the latest and greatest Buzz Books Monthly comes out, one of my favorite things to do is compare it to my own reading plans for that month, using it to validate my choices, and steer me towards others. And, of course, I always note what I had somehow missed out on and hunt it down on NetGalley, see if it's being ordered at my library (request a hold if it is, a purchase if it isn't), and put it on my TBR. So many reasons to look forward to the next Buzz Books coming out!
I love the Buzz Book Monthly editions! They are great for providing a bite-sized snippet of upcoming books being published for the month, whether fiction, nonfiction, young adult, etc. This also provided several excerpts of books that looked interesting, particularly The Prague Sonata (by Bradford Morrow) and Seven Days of Us (by Francesca Hornak), both of which are now on my ever-growing TBR list! Thanks, Publishers Lunch!
Brilliant! I love getting the new Buzz book. A good way to decide if you want to really read a certain book.
Always look forward to new Buzz Books! These excerpts are a great way of discovering new books that I otherwise wouldn't come across.
A great selection. I thought the fiction titles were particularly promising. Thanks BuzzBooks!
This edition of Buzz Books Monthly was outstanding. It featured some amazing excerpts that really got me into the reading spirit.
Right off the bat, I fell in love with The Dark Lake by Sarah Bailey, I'm definitely reading this one asap!!
Another one that caught my eye was The First Day by Phil Harrison, I can already tell this one will be a hit.
Definitely give this one a try if you're looking for amazing upcoming releases, you will fall in love with these books right away.
I always love when these Buzz Books come available. It's an awesome way to be exposed to books you normally wouldn't reach for. It takes you out of your comfort zone. You get to read a few chapters of a book to see if you are going to like it or not. The best part is there is usually a link at the end of each one to click on to request! Brilliant!!
As always, I loved the opporinity to sample some new books that are coming out soon. Unfortunately, none of them sparked my interest.
Handy little guide for the forthcoming month. Some books on the list which may interest me and will keep my eyes open for them!
Another great Buzz Book! I love these monthly Buzz Books because it really helps me plan what books to feature on my blog during the upcoming months. Lots of great books to choose from in this installment.
This is an exciting, week-by-week lineup of October's new books from publishers large and small and authors widely known and debut. As always, it features excerpts from selected titles; I particularly loved the sample from Sarah Bailey's upcoming thriller. This month also introduces a new audio component to enhance the experience.
It is amazing how consistent the quality of books chosen for these preview collections is. I love to keep up with what's coming up, though it may not be good for my to-read shelf! This is another great collection of upcoming releases.
This is a great material to have every month. BuzzBooks is always high quality and interesting - this month my favourite was the week-to-week list that helped me organize this month's schedule.
I always love reading these, especially the debut novels and ones to watch out for. It's always handy for me to see what's coming up and October looks amazing!
September is one of the biggest months in publishing but October is no slouch - the publishing calendar included three books that I had no idea were coming out and are now on my TBR. Awesome as always!
Book Buzz Monthly is a great tool to preview what books are coming soon. The excerpts inform us about upcoming titles and well as new authors. Good reading resource.
I love these publications because they're so helpful!!! Please keep them coming!
Just love getting the October Buzz on upcoming books!!!
Buzz books are for me, a professional reader, extremely helpful.
This is a great collection of excerpts of upcoming books for the month of October 2017.
It contains an introduction followed by a section with a list of "Literary Favorites and Emerging Talents", debut fiction, commercial fiction, and nonfiction titles. Then it has a section of "Week by Week" title releases and at the end some book excerpts that were originally published in Buzz Books 2017: Fall/Winter. I particularly enjoyed the excerpt for The Dark Lake by Sarah Bailey.
Overall, a great list of buzzing titles for the month of October 2017.
I love these monthly excerpt collections; it is a great way to preview upcoming titles and decide which ones to request or pre-order. October comes with exciting new titles by old favorites like Isabel Allende and Dan Brown. I am looking forward to reading more of "The Dark Lake" and "Seven Days of Us". The best part, this collection includes audio samples!
Thank to NetGalley for providing this book in exchange for an honest review.
I can hardly wait to read Seven Days of Us. Finally, a great comedy to look forward to! In these times we need to laugh as much as possible. Thank you for Buzz Books, too!
If a book is featured here, it's pretty much guaranteed that it will be excellent. I'm especially looking forward to The Dark Lake & Seven Days of Us. The excerpts have reinforced my desire to get these books when they come out. And I enjoyed reading previews of all October selections. Thank you NetGalley!
I really enjoyed the excerts of several of the books and have added them to my TBR, especially BEST DAY EVER.
Thank God, only 72 more hours until October 1! Can't wait to get my greedy hands on these upcoming titles! So much to look forward to, wonderful compilation.
An excellent preview of books to be published in the coming month. Clearly laid out with a listing of new books by genre. Followed by more-than generous excerpts from a good selection of them. Including audio is a great idea too.
Really useful - thank you to NetGalley for providing me with a copy in return for s fair review.
There's going to be so many brilliant books this October, I honestly cannot wait
I look forward to this each month! It's a great way to learn about upcoming fiction and nonfiction titles.
I just wanted to mention 2 books from this launch I am excited about. One I am currently reading, the Tan memoir I have to wait to buy at the end of this month.
I am currently reading and reviewing Phil Harrison’s The First Day. So far, it is not quite what I expected, it is much more than a forbidden affair. It spirals and manages to be a quiet disaster. The writing is wonderful, Anna is living ‘in the aftermath of love’. It’s painful and brutal, and a complex love affair. I go from hating Samuel to feeling empathy, because he struggles! So for that alone, I enjoyed this Buzz Books Monthly, I chose The First Day because of it. Also, I am seriously looking forward to Amy Tan’s Memoir ‘Where the Past Begins’.
As a an aside, a novel about a pastor ‘family man’ having an affair seems worn out, but it isn’t in Harrison’s hands. I am spending my evenings immersed in the mess the character Samuel has made and this quiet story simmers.
I will share my review soon.
Once again I enjoyed reading excerpts from different books that are going to come out. I love that there is a variety in the books chosen. These are the books included in this edition:
"The Prague Sonata" Bradford Morrow
"The Dark Lake" Sarah Bailey
"The First Day" Phil Harrison
"Seven Days of Us" Francesca Hornak
"The Spectrum of Hope" Gayatri Devi
"Life Detonated" Kathleen Murray Moran
"Where the Past Begins: A Writer's Memoir" Amy Tan
"Logical Family" Armistead Maupin
Thanks for letting me read the October book releases summary page. I've added several to my TBR list. Very excited for the new Fall and Winter books releasing this season!
As always, Buzz Books proves to be one of the best sources for finding new and upcoming books that you'll want to be sure to check out and feature on your website. The excerpts are always just the right length to give you a taste of the book that leaves you wanting more - and helps you decide whether or not the book is right for you and your online publication.
