4 stars.
Woah, this book! The graphics alone are 5 stars. Its just such a beautiful work of art that I think I spent more time taking in all of the images than I did reading everything. They are so vibrant, its just stunning. Just take a look at that cover!

This is quite an interesting book. Its educational without being 'too educational' so I think it will appeal to the younger readers. Its also a good one for parents to read with their children. Going through it together as there is just so much to look at. Its definitely worthy a look. This I would rate 3 stars as I prefered the illustrations more than the writing part of this book, but thats not saying the writing isnt good enough, it is, its just my brain was more interested in the artwork.

Netgalley ARC Review - Emily Hawkins brings us a fantastic book that any young adventurer will love. Between the abundance of facts and history, the illustrations will engage and delight. Not to mention, there is an intriguing mystery to solve as you read through a timeline of mechanical inventions. All Aboard the Discovery Express would make a great addition to your library.

All Aboard The Discovery Express Emily Hawkins and Tom Adams is a fantastic interactive book about the history of travel with an intriguing puzzle to solve along the way.  There are surprises on every page, discoveries to be made and clues to follow.

On the first page the reader meets Pierre Henri, who is to be the conductor of the journey the reader is about the embark on. He explains that this is to be no ordinary train ride, and along with geographer, explorer and adventurer Nancy Delaney you begin travelling in time, history and across the world. The purpose of this trip is to find Professor Pendleton – the leader of the crew, whom without Pierre and Nancy are lost. As we travel across each carriage, each room, and each landmark there are many many clues and information under each flap and it is important that they aren’t missed. From flying machines, the Panama Canal, to one of my favourite pages on the hot air balloon, there will be much fun to be had while learning about inventions of our past and some of the most talent engineers ever.

My words really cannot do this book justice, it is when you get to see the book in person that you realise just how much it is going to spark the imagination of children. Apart from it looking beautiful, it is a textural delight on each page which sparks interaction between those reading through the book. This book is particularly brilliant for those wanting to be scientists or engineers, and those who simply love discovery and adventure.

I recommend this book to children and people who love adventure and trains.

I received this an ARC of All Aboard The Discovery Express from NetGalley via Quarto Publishing Group and Wide Eyed Editions.

Lovvvedd that cover! Isn’t that beautiful?

This book was very creative and brilliant. I loved exploring each pages with amazing greatest inventions of the world right from Panama Canal, steam boats, trams to hot air balloon.

The beginning of the book was the best in the book. Nancy, the geographer and explorer and Pierre, the conductor of Discovery Express, took us to the map room on Discovery Express where the inventions were shown on the map of the world with year, place, inventors and little facts on them. With the clues left at the end of each pages all the greatest inventions were introduced with all the details right from its idea to design, facts and figures, mechanism, and how it worked out during that time period with beautiful illustration with language that children of age 9 or more can understand.

I loved that hot air balloon invention. The letter inventor wrote to his wife was funny. Details of Panama Canal was amazing to read. Oh and the first invention wheel was also narrated in detail. Many facts described in the book were even new to me. The book is best education material that I sure every school would like to teach through it. All the things were written in beautiful way with colorful pages keeping in mind that children enjoy reading each facts and also help them memorize them.

Why not 5 Stars-
My only concern with this book was, small text. I read PDF version and some text I couldn’t read even after zooming. I didn’t try magnifying glass as I don’t have one right now. But because of this issue I couldn’t read few facts written, specifically in last 2 or 3 pages, about airplane, bicycle, jet plane and submarines. So I just hope this drawback is solved in physical copy (it need to be Big copy with readable fonts).

Overall, it was informative, fun to read, beautifully illustrated quick journey to history of transport. This book was perfect read you wish for your children.

As the previous reviewer has stated this book has lots of promise but is difficult to follow in the current digital uncompleted(?) format. The 'spreads' at the end show a much more logical flow and show the potential of this book.
I see on the cover that the retail price of this is intended to be £17.99, which I would expect to be a hard sell at what looks to be 15 double-page topics being covered.
All in all there is definitely promise with the intended light, or more subtle, approach to the historical subject matter and I'd definitely be interested to see the finished article.
I've marked as four stars but take that with a large pinch of salt at this stage.
Thanks for allowing me to take a preview look.
