This in some places is quite a brutal romance, and yet it is recognizable to so many women. I think it is for those that like it rough or at least that is what they are used to. I think the author did a good job in writing this.
One year after her dom husband died, a woman plans her suicide, only to be stopped when she discovers what might be a dead body in the barn. Then it gets complicated.
I’m conflicted about this one. As usual when it’s a good book, I liked the female protagonist, and didn’t care for either of the guys; since they were so opposite from each other, maybe someone in between would have worked for me. The story itself is well written, if a little long; felt more drawn out than necessary, with quite a bit of fluff. Took a long time to get to any erotica or bdsm; it reads more like the journal of three damaged people. The timing of her finding him in the barn just as she’s about to off herself is a little too big of a coinkidink. But even with that I enjoyed some of the psychological aspects, more so her submissiveness than his illness.
The Submissive Muse surprised me, seeing as i didn't know about all the BDSM but it also told a sad but beautiful story of love. I devoured this book in hours, i just couldn't help myself.
This novel tells the story of two people madly in love.
Elizabeth, at twenty-three, is struggling in her life. Still living at home, working a waitress job, and all the men she is meets just wants one night flings. The only way she feels in control is by cutting herself. One night, she goes too deep and is taken to the ER where she will meet John, a handsome successful doctor, as he is leaving the hospital. As they get to know each other they both becomes hooked. I love John's dominance and his love for Elizabeth, and she is just taken by John. The dynamic between the two characters is steamy and hot. Makes this book a page turner for sure.
The novel takes a turn when John get terminally ill with a brain tumor, leaving him with not much time left on earth. He befriends Devan Carthy, the artist who was mentioned in previous chapters to help him. He asks Devan in a year after his death to check up on Elizabeth, make sure she is okay. GOSH! How perfectly delicious is that? I loved seeing how that part eventually turned out - How would Devan pull this task off?, Would Elizabeth in return fall for him? - Would this plan even work? AHHH just loved it!
Thank you NetGalley!!
Devan and Elizabeth were brought together by her dead husband John. John paid Devan to take care of his wife one year after his death. Devan and Elizabeth start an unusual friendship that starts to blossom into love. Can an eccentric artist and a submissive find love together. Yes, love does strike twice.
Oh this book wasn’t for me sadly! Doesn’t mean I would try to read future books by this author.
I voluntarily reviewed this book.
I received a complimentary copy of the Submissive Muse in exchange for an honest review. Normally a BDSM would not be my go to genre, but this novel was very tastefully done and had a great plot. It went back and forth from present to past, but the transitions were seamless, and added value to the story. The BDSM references were also mild, and well written into the story. Overall I was very impressed with this novel and would recommend to friends and family.
