I am very familiar with the Paleo diet but for a while now Keto has eluded me. I think Slajerova put together an excellent collection of Keto friendly foods. The recipes are unique and original without being too gourmet for a variety of household budgets.
The photography is stunning, don't read this with a grumbly belly or you will wind up trying to make everything at once. The Green Shakshuka looks delightful and I am rushing to the store today to try the Autumn Beef and Vegetable Stew and the Sourdough Keto Buns..
This book adds variety to my keto diet:
I have been on a keto diet for about six months now and I am in danger to repeat cooking the same recipes over and over again. Keto Slow cooker by Martina Slajerova is going to change that. Her book has so many new and savory recipes that I cannot wait to cook some of them. On my list are the Ratatouille Soup, the Salmon Chowder, the Hungarian Goulash, The Greek Briam, and the Slow Cooker Beef Fajitas. From the desserts I have to try the Snickerdoodle Creme Brulee, the Spiced Bacon Granola, and the Chocolate Chip Cookie Bites. The recipes in the book are all so appealing, I can serve them to my entire family, even though not everybody is on the keto diet.
I like the Slow Cooking 101 tips at the beginning of the book because I have not been using my slow cooker for a while. It is also very helpful that each recipes lists net carbs, total carbs, protein, and fat content per serving in grams so I have an idea of my daily macros. The Make-ahead recipes are real time savers. I can only recommend this book to all readers who want to make keto/paleo eating a constant part of their lifestyle.
Regardless all the doubts I still have towards the ketogenic diet, I still find this recipes book very interesting and well written and made me choose to buy a slow coker, because I think that some meals are worth a try, even if are not set in this specific diet.
THANKS TO NETGALLEY FOR THE PREVIEW
A great collection of those looking to adapt the keto diet into all or part of their lives. Simple, yet delicious recipes all made easier by being adapted to the slow-cooker or one pan dishes. Overall a great cookbook for those looking at the diet or even those just looking to eat a bit healthier.
I loved this book. It is a refreshing book of healthy living, low sugar recipes and low fat. I found myself wanting to make every recipes. It deserves a place on my cookbook shelf
Easy to follow and interesting recipes which I would not have thought to cook without this book.
I’m always interested in low carb, higher fat meals, even though I’m not properly following the Keto diet myself. I also really like using a slow cooker (when I’m organised enough, that is) or, even better, one pot to do everything. Less washing up, less fuss! So this book hugely appealed to me, ticking three big boxes (slow cooker, one pot, low carb).
This book is great because it largely sticks with whole foods instead of lots of processed sauces and other ingredients, which also really appeals to me. The dishes are easy enough to follow, with clear photos and without crazily expensive, rare ingredients that you sometimes see in cookbooks trying to impress. These recipes are largely wholesome and nutritious and feel attainable.
The book includes a handy list of low-carb vegetables which I found so useful, and lots of lovely curry paste/ sauce recipes too! There are also great recipes for seasonings and roasting whole vegetables in the slow cooker too, plus some incredibly handy conversions for things like common allergens and sugar to sweetener so you know what you can substitute with what. There’s also a recipe for sauerkraut, which I’ve always fancied making, AND recipes for making your own coconut milk (if you can be arsed to) as well as loads of other handy recipes too.
This book, basically, inspired me in many ways to make more use of the slow cooking setting on my instant pot, instead of just using it to pressure cook or to cook rice. Though there are lots of meat-based recipes (the ‘fish ball tagine’, ‘turkey meatballs’, ‘morrocan lamb stew’ and ‘chicken tikka masala’ looked great), there are also lots of lovely vegetarian options too, like ‘eggplant (aubergine to us brits) parmesan’, and ‘broccoli & mushroom alfredo casserole’. As my partner is pescetarian, I mostly cook vegetarian or pescetarian recipes for both of us, but would definitely try some of the meat recipes for when I’m just cooking for myself. There are also some very tasty dessert recipes too!
All in all, this is a well-rounded Keto slow cooker/ one pot cookbook with recipes that feel attainable and are easy enough to follow. Highly recommended for anyone on a keto diet wanting to make more of their slow cooker, or just fancy keeping washing up to a minimum, or those who fancy a lower-cab diet too (within reason).
Amazing! This is the larger recipe book for slow coocker that I never see. The recipes are easy and the flavours vary from traditional to worldwide meals. The particularly that makes amazing this book is the healthy ingredients used. Bon appetit
A wonderful primer for a beginner trying their hand at slow cooking for the first time is provided at the beginning of the book. Also included are helpful tips on using an Instant Pot, electric pressure cooker.
A breakdown of ketogenic diet rules proves this is a well rounded book for those trying to eat healthy while working a full time schedule. If you need help getting dinner on the table while loosing weight get THIS book.
I have tried to do keto and it is hard while working full time. This will get me back on track.
Overall, a decent Keto cookbook. It can be a challenge to find true keto recipes that don't require hours in the kitchen. This cookbook offered several that stay within my targeted carb count, and seemed to use easily obtained ingredients. It's not a perfect cookbook for me - as in there probably only a handful of recipes that will work for my keto lifestyle, but it's still one that I'm happy to have gotten my hands on. Every new meal I can put into circulation is a win for me! This is definitely worth checking out!
SO far so good! I've tried a handful of recipes and really enjoyed them. Easy to follow and read. Most ingredients I have or at least can easily get.
Off to try a few ore meals!
This looks like a nice book to have especially for those who are on the go. Easy to follow and a nice variety of foods!
I am going to be honest- I need to lose weight. So when I received a copy of Keto Slow Cooker & One-Pot Meals
via Netgalley, I was interested. I do not follow the Keto diet but I have been looking into to see if it was a lifestyle change I want to make. I am all about flavor and I don't like deprivation (hence the reason I need to lose weight haha).
I found that this cookbook has some great recipes that don't lack in flavor and variety. I have made two so far and they are delicious. I think Keto is something I can do!
This book has a lot of great information on how to lose weight by doing a Keto diet. My husband and I have been on this diet almost two months and this book has helped us a lot. This book is easy to follow and has some great recipes in it as well that are easy to follow. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader’s copy of this book. The free book held no determination on my personal review.
Delicious Keto recipes to cook in slow cooker and the Food Pics were drooling .......A must book in your shelf.......
I've been trying to branch out and find new recipes for the ketogenic diet I'm on and had to grab this cookbook when I saw it. I'm all for slow cooker recipes or one pot meals mainly because they tend to be quick and easy or just set it and forget it. I found some amazing new recipes that make meal prep a breeze and quite a few more adventurous recipes I never would have tried before. This past weekend I did the "Make-Ahead Freezer Meatballs" and it makes a ton so whenever you need a quick meal after work you can pop them in the oven or on the stove top and you have a yummy dinner. If you're looking to expand your recipes for the ketogenic/keto diet this might be the book for you.
I am always looking for ways to diversify the ketogenic diet that I follow. This, for me, has been the absolute best way to not only lose weight, but feel and look healthier. Keto Slow Cooker & One-Pot Meals is a great addition to my cookbook collection. I like that there is a healthy mixture of foods from all kinds of different regions. I love a variety of foods, and like recipes like chicken tikka masala, and moussaka. It is easier to eat well when you have a variety of delicious options! I also like that the nutrition facts are listed, particularly the fat and fiber which are both extremely important to track or at least have an idea of when eating this way. Particularly of note is the dessert section, which is full of delicious ways to conquer my sweet tooth without compromising the Keto way of life. I highly recommend this cookbook to anyone following any kind of low carbohydrate diet.
When I request cookery books, I only expect to get a few pages with some beautiful photographs and then some intriguing recipes that I may or may not try. The fact that this was the full book blew my mind. I've already tried two of the recipes, I live by my slow cooker, and they were delicious. This is definitely something I'd buy for myself or a family member in the future
The photos are beautiful, and the recipes look wonderful. I can't wait to make some!
I received a copy of Keto Slow Cooker & One-Pot Meals by Martina Slajerova from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Although I am new to the Keto diet and am still in the learning phase of meal planning, this book was a huge help! It spells out the "rules" simply and then shows how to adhere to them WITHOUT sacrificing taste or one's precious time!
I've only tried a few recipes thus far, but am looking forward to attempting more soon.
As someone new to the Keto diet, I found these recipes to be easy to understand and practical. The fact that they are slow cooker and one-pot allows me to make these recipes at home even when I'm on a time crunch.
I love the many Keto recipes and have earmarked to try them all. I love the tips and suggestions as well.
I wasn't able to cook anything before the book archived on my tablet, but the recipes included looked delicious. While there were some recipes that were out of my comfort zone, I was looking forward to cooking the meatballs & "mash"..
This book is bursting with keto options for the slow cooker. I was really surprised how many cultural dishes there were that made the book really interesting. Keto Slow Cooker & One-Pot Meals contains much more than the usual slow cooker recipes.
I'm excited to try so many of these recipes to have meals prepared when I get home from work. There also were lots of recipes that would freeze well so I could make ahead! I love recipes that call for simple supplies and can be made in advance!
I highly recommend this book to anyone searching for keto meals that are easy to make and super tasty.
I have been looking at the Keto diet for some time but thought the restrictions for food were too much. With this book I have to say that i am very surprised and pleased by the recipes and the options to use different food and different variations. I will definitely be giving some of these a try.
The book itself is easy to follow and a terrific introduction into the Keto lifestyle!
I received a copy of KetonSlow Cooker & One-Pot Meals by Martina Slajerova from the publisher via Netgalley for my honest review. With the recent hype of The Keto Diet as soon as I seen this cookbook I knew I wanted to try it.
This book provides great pictures and easy to follow recipes for your slow cooker or one-pot. What I loved best is that these recipes were tasty! I had most of the ingredients or could run up to our local store for what I was missing! This made for ease! I love that! These recipes are practical!
This book is easy to follow and a great. Introduction into the Keto Lifestyle.
Keto Slow Cooker & One-Pot Meals is the newest cookbook from author and keto-lifestyle advocate Martina Slajerova, published by Quarto - Fair Winds Press and available 21st November 2017.
The book is very well illustrated with most pages having full color photographs which support and fill out the text. The content is presented in plain and understandable language blessedly free from mumbo-jumbo. It includes a good layman accessible introduction, explaining the biological basis and uses of a ketogenic diet, the history of the diet and what to expect from a lifestyle change which includes replacing some (or most) dietary carbohydrates with fats as a source of energy.
After the introductory content is a basic chapter including slow cooking theory and how-tos along with how to choose proteins and fats and which to choose for optimal results, spices and how to flavor foods. This chapter is full of useful information for anyone, even people who aren't particularly interested in following a low carb diet. There are complete recipes for homemade spice mixes (the ranch one is -fantastic- and is my new go-to make ahead ranch seasoning), homemade curry paste (tikka masala, rogan josh, and korma), mayonnaise and even a short introduction to macrobiotic fermented vegetable based things like sauerkraut and kimchi. The first chapter along with the slow cooking info and how-to's encompass roughly 14% of the total page content.
The next chapters are full of recipes which are good-tasting and made from easily sourced ingredients. There are chapters for making homemade basics, soups, one pot meals, stews roasts & casseroles, and desserts. I really liked that many of the recipes come with built-in alternatives which make it very easy to switch things up and add even more variation to menu planning without a lot of extra effort.
Despite being insulin resistant myself (borderline type II diabetes), I've resisted trying out a low carb diet mostly because I'm crazy for carbs. I love potatoes rice and bread like nobody's business. I couldn't imagine I would care for any sort of low/no carb version of those three staples. However, I always try out several recipes for any cookbook I'm reviewing, and I thought I'd give the bread and potato alternatives a test drive.
We tried the lemon & herb cauli-rice (p.51) which wound up fluffy and flavorful but I wouldn't say it would honestly substitute for rice in any normal situation. Most people wouldn't take a bite and think they were eating rice. It was tasty however and certainly could make a nice vegetable side dish.
Bread was my second 'acid test'. We tried the sourdough keto-buns (p. 52). My 'complaint' with keto diets previously is that the bread is unsatisfying to me. That is not the case with these rolls. They were crusty and flavorful and satisfied my bread craving. Delicious. Some of the ingredients were a little hard to source (psyllium husk powder for example; had to go to the international health food co-op in town to find it, but they also had ALL the ingredients mentioned in the recipe, so it was one-stop-shopping anyhow).
The third recipe we tried was creamy "potato" soup (p. 63). I'm all over rich potato and bacon soup. It's my number one comfort food, so this was a real taste test, definitely a high bar for me. This soup substitutes rutabaga for starchy potatoes and is a vegetarian version without any meat in it, otherwise it's a traditional root vegetable type hearty soup. I enjoyed the actual soup. It's hearty and filling. It's not potato soup and it doesn't taste like potato soup (or at least it didn't fulfill the 'potato soup' criteria up in my head and in my tastebuds).
Final thoughts? These recipes really are delicious and made from (fairly) easily sourced ingredients. They -are- keto friendly and I would feel fine serving them to non-keto guests. There's a lot to love here. Many of the recipes (maybe even a majority(?)) are vegetarian/vegan friendly or adaptable. Many of them come with author recommended alternatives to make several different styles and presentations by shifting a few ingredients. All the recipes have nutritional information included in a sidebar. The information for each recipe is printed like the quote below, in a very accessible no-nonsense and understandable format:
NUTRITION FACTS PER SERVING (ABOUT 1½ CUPS/360 ML):
Total carbs: 11.3 g / Fiber: 3.4 g / Net carbs: 7.9 g / Protein: 2.3 g / Fat: 9.6 g / Energy: 135 kcal. Macronutrient ratio: Calories from carbs (25%), protein (7%), fat (68%)
I would recommend this cookbook for anyone who is curious about the benefits of a ketogenic diet and wonders if it's easily incorporated or 'do-able' for normal folks. The included recipes are tasty and convenient and made from healthy ingredients which don't rely on highly pre-processed and refined ingredients or mixes.
Available in paperback and ebook versions, 208 pages
Four stars
While I don't follow a Keto diet, it's great to have some recipes on hand. I've always found that it's hard to strictly follow a diet especially when you work, blog, and go to school like I do. So having a recipe book that gives you one pot and Slow Cooker meals is exactly what I need. Plus most of these recipes sound so good! I am not kidding either.
Beautifully laid out book. Recipes easy to follow and organized nicely on the page. Most have pictures which is a must for a recipe book. Nutritional info is included which is also helpful. Variety of recipes at a variety of difficulty levels. Something for everyone.
I received and ARC of this via netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
This book offers a good high level overview of the Keto diet, has some great tips on slow cooking as well as various other methods of cooking, and has some interesting recipes without getting to complicated.
I was very happy to receive a copy of this book because I wanted to learn a bit more about Keto and get some recipe ideas. I was pleasantly surprised to see some great advice and tips about how to use the slow cooker. It never crossed my mind to make dessert in a slow cooker and now not only do I have some great recipe ideas, but I know what not to do. I also really like that you tend to see the same ingredients throughout the recipes which means you save some money without the recipes getting overly complicated.
I did notice one typo, at least I think it’s an error. On the page listing Keto friendly veggies, it lists avocados having 12 net carbs but only having approximately 2 carbs. I only noticed because I love avocados.
Other than that, it was a great book and I’m looking forward to making some recipes.
Really interesting one pot recipes, I wish there were more veggie options but overall, the recipes I tried were tasty and easy to whip up.
Thumbs up!
This book was exactly what I was looking for. We have recently commited to a mostly keto diet and I LOVE the convenience of the recipes included in this collection. I am accustomed to using our slow cooker nearly every day, and the options presented here were new to me and all the recipes I've tried so far have been delicious. I also appreciated the beginning introduction to the diet and why/how it works - even though I've done my research, I always find these blurbs interesting and informative. This one is going on our physical shelf for sure!
Easy and Delicious recipes! !! Is a must have in the kitchen book.
I’m not totally into all the foods in the kept diet craze, but this cookbook enticed me to give some of these dishes a try.
The Keto diet and one-pot meals are all the rage right now. Recipes were fairly easy and practical.
This is a great resource to have in any kitchen, not just a Keto kitchen. I tried quite a few recipes and all were a great success. None were too tedious with too many ingredients and steps which is great with being so busy. The only category I haven't tried yet was dessert, but there are quite a few of those on the short list!
Disclaimer; I received an e-ARC of this book from the publisher and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
A well-illustrated book with recipes that are user-friendly. Whether you have been following a careful, thoughtful eating plan or are new to Keto or paleo meals, this book will provide many new recipes - that are not off-putting in any way. (meaning even I was able to try out some of these wonderful slow-cooker recipes). Thank You!
