Description
Mind Platter is a compilation of reflections on life as seen through the eyes of an educator, student, and human who experienced her early days in silence. It is written in the words of a woman who came from Lebanon to Canada at the age of sixteen and experienced what it was like to have fate push her to a place where she didn't belong. It is written in the voice of every person who has felt unheard, mistreated, misjudged, or unseen.
The book contains over 200 one-page reflections on topics we encounter in our everyday lives: love, friendship, hurt, inspiration, respect, motivation, integrity, honesty, and more. Mind Platter is not about the words it contains, but what the reader makes of them. May this book give a voice to those who need one, be a crying shoulder for those who yearn for someone to listen, and inspire those who need a reminder of the power they have over their lives.

A simple collection of poetry on a variety of topics. Beautiful cover art.
Book of empowering, motivational thoughts, some a sentence or two, and some longer paragraphs. A lovely book to have and consult when needed, a very good tool for self-care. While Najwa Zebian addresses the evils of the world, she consistently maintains a hopeful love towards humanity, and encourages readers to care for themselves and to face the world with confidence and certainty in their own worthiness..
"Of all the gifts I could give you, I choose to give the ones I needed
when I was in my darkest moments. You see, we all walk different
paths, but there is one tragedy that we all share: the struggle to be
ourselves in a world that wants us to be anything but ourselves."
This book is full of great insights and wisdom. I really enjoyed this book and can’t wait to share with my husband.
Najwa Zebian is amazing, I've been following her on social media for almost two years now and everything she says or write is full of positivity and kindness
Thank you Andrews McMeel Publishing for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Here's a piece of advice: Read this book. It's a wonderful collection of self-reflective poetry. Majority of the poems were about life lessons. Relatable and truly meaningful. Najwa Zebian is a new to me author and her words are captivating. I shall look forward on her upcoming poetry collection.
I read a preview copy to this book, and I cannot wait for the book to come out so that I can highlight many many words of wisdom contained within it. In fact, if I do that, it will be almost every page which is highlighted. This book could sit in poetry, or could equally be used as a self help/personal development book. I found it comforting and motivating.
Mind Platter is a collection of very positive, uplifting poetry. Perfect for a long hard week, or for starting out your day positively. It almost seems to be a self help book of poetry.
This was not my favorite book of poetry, but also not my least favorite.
I received this ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. I enjoyed this poetry collection and it has a lot of good advice. I would read it again.
These poems represent a meditation on life, from struggle for survival to success when emotions wage war within us and force us to question our very existence as we navigate this journey's paths.
At first I didn't understand why this was labeled as poetry, because it's not written in verse at all. It's all in prose. But I learnt that there are poets who write like this and it's still valid poetry. Good to know that.
Zebian writes paragraph-long reflections on many aspects of life and things we come across while living it which can be very inspiring if you read them at the right moment. I took my time with this book because I didn't think that reading it all in one sit was appropiate. It was too much to swallow in such a short time. I decided to read 5 to 10 pages per day, give myself time to digest the ideas and then I would keep on reading some more pages the following day. That's why it took me almost 2 months to read it (I must admit there were days that I didn't read it at all, but anyway).
I liked it very much and it felt cosy, like someone was giving me a hug while reading. Also, not realted to the content, but that cover is gorgeous. Everytime I saw it I fell in love with it again and again.
I actually gave it 4.5 out of 5 stars because it was so inspiring, motivating and full of good advice. It's just that it's too long and I cannot fully finished it but I believe this poetry is so good ! I get bored with lengthy words especially when I used to read poetry that is short and simple yet touched my heart.
