Description
Money. Art. Passion. Anguish.
You’ll Find It All in the Golden City
After digging a fortune from the frozen fields of the Klondike, August Wolff heads south to the “Golden City” of San Francisco, hoping to start over and put the unsolved loss of his wife and daughter behind him. The turn of the twentieth century brings him even more success, but the distractions of a place some call the new Sodom and Gomorrah can’t fill the gaping hole in his life.
Amelia Starling is a wildly talented artist caught in the straightjacket of Old New York society. Making a heart-breaking decision, she moves to San Francisco to further her career, all the while living with the pain of a sacrifice no woman should ever have to make.
When Gus and Lia meet, they connect as two damaged yet resilient souls. But the past, shrouded in mystery, prevents the two of them from finding a way forward. Unwilling to lead what she considers an immoral lifestyle, Lia leaves San Francisco and vows to begin again in Europe.
The Golden City offers everything a man could wish for except the answers Gus is desperate to find. But find them he must, or he and Lia have no chance at all.

"A.B. Michaels is a strong writer who has created compelling, flawed but very likeable characters. Even the more minor characters have interesting backstories, and are just as driven and complicated as the main characters...I think romance readers will enjoy this book, and probably this series, but readers of historical fiction will also like The Art of Love. It's also a quick read, mainly because once you start, you will not want to put it down." - Sabrina Ricci, Digital Pubbing

I really enjoyed "The Art of Love" by A.B. Michaels! Just a well-written, beautiful romance running the gamuts of rags to riches, sorrow to joy, loneliness to passion, loss to gain, scandal to honor, and failure to soaring summits of success. It is Lia and Gus's story. True love with seemingly unsurmountable obstacles. All the good stuff and not a murder in sight . . believable passion, without the cheapening explicit details. A satisfying, straight-through read.
This was a book I enjoyed quite a lot. I think it could be the start of an interesting series with the possibility of drawing characters who will appeal to their audience as they grow
This is a charming light romance read that has no explicit details just old fashioned romance. I like the writing and the charcters. It was a enjoyable read and I appreciated how the how writes so well of the depth of feelings and romance . Very sweet read with a good plot and well crafted charcters with likable situations.
I received a ARC for review and my opinions are my own.,
‘The Art of Love’ by A.B. Michaels is a wonderful piece of historical fiction. This wonderful story takes us from the Yukon to New York and lastly San Francisco in the late 1800's.
The story drew me in during the first chapter and had me staying up late to read ‘just one more chapter’ When I finished I wanted more. There was hope however since the cover of the book says The Golden City #1.
Both the main characters Gus and Lia are extremely complex characters who have both survived failed relationships and heartache. Both Gus and Lia have had to make very hard decisions. They both have worked tirelessly to carve out a second chance at life. They have each found the strength to face a future alone. But they are not alone for long because when they meet sparks fly. The story of how Gus and Lia find each other and come to terms with their pasts is compelling and the memorable secondary characters add depth to the rich storyline. Is rich in history, description, and especially in the two main characters. They're flawed and so very human.
I found myself wanting to read about August Wolff and Amelia Starling. The book is beautifully written, I couldn't put it down. I highly recommend this book. I will be on the look out for more from this author.
I would like to thank A.B. Michaels, BooksgoSocial and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
