For Cluck's Sake!

This is a junior equivalent of those toilet reads – trivia and ephemera for random perusal, here based on one subject. Species get profiled, scientific factoids are portrayed in handy bite-sized chunks, and – just when we've come to love them – we get recipe ideas, too. It's a strange mix, but if you're thinking of introducing chickens to the family, then your young humans will get a lot of ownership and understanding of them through these pages.

The photos are beautiful, and there are a few 'nuggets of wisdom' found throughout, but this isn't the book for someone who is interested in learning about chickens. This would make a great gift for a chicken-person who wants to be entertained. My eleven year old enjoyed it. :)

I loved this book. It had the prettiest pictures of chickens, yes I said it, chickens! I lived in Arkansas for three years and had a variety of animals, some were weird looking chickens my mother ordered. I loved their strange looks and personalities. 50 acres for them to play on. This book gave a lot of trivia and facts that were quite interesting. Egg, chicken, and more facts and humor. You could tell whoever wrote this book loved animals. I feel I am smarter now than I started the book! A fun book for any animal lover.

This is a really cute book. It has “nuggets of wisdom” which are little inspirational pages. There are some awesome photographs of chickens. I love all the facts about chickens-so interesting. It also has “breed spotlight” pages describing the different breeds of chickens. A fun whimsical little fact book about chickens.

This is a cute book that has some chicken facts, some chicken pictures and some chicken humor. It was a fun read, even for some who have chickens. I learned a few things I didn't know. The pictures were very well done. I think this would be really great for kids and adults alike.

I read a review of this book on Facebook so when I saw it in my request choices, I had to check it out! I have a cousin who is into all things chicken. I'm buying this for her Christmas stocking. Everyone needs a few smiles a day, this book supplies them.

This book is wonderful for chicken lovers! The breed spotlights and photos are informative. The other illustrations are wonderful.m And though the factoids can be a little disjointed, they are certainly interesting.

For Cluck's Sake by Stacia Tolman is a book of lots of tidbits about chickens, breeds, origins, recipes, jokes, etc. Great photos, too.

This was such a delight to read. I don't know much about chickens other than that they are delicious, but this is full of little facts that may not be the most useful, but definitely the most fun. I think what really made me adore this was the "nuggets of wisdom" (so many puns, puns everywhere) with little inspirational quotes rewritten to fit the chicken theme. My kind of humour.

Probably not everything you ever wanted to know about chickens, but close.
It starts with a funny intro where the author gives her chicken résumé, as it were. The first photo shows an angry-looking hen, staring at the camera like it’s spoiling for a fight; actually pretty scary. The second photo shows two chickens next to each other, and the pattern in their feathers is quite mesmerizing. The third photo is of a bird with feathers on its legs; it just looks. . . wrong. But you get the gist.
A pea comb is mentioned, but not explained.
Amid all the facts there are quotes that are not about the feathered fowl, but the main noun has been changed to chicken, which more often than not fails. Thankfully the fun facts are indeed fun.
Chicks come out born ready, so to speak.
The egg did come first.
Chickens are smarter than four-year-old humans when thinking long-term.
There’s a literal pecking order; doesn’t say if this is where the phrase originated, but it figures to be.
Plenty of fun or funny stuff, but some uninteresting ones as well.

How adorable! I must say at the start, this is not a book from which to learn chicken breeding, chick raising, or care. Rather, it is full of chicken trivia and history, accompanied by art and photography. Anyone who is fascinated by chickens, or who is only chicken-curious, will enjoy the read. This would definitely make a great gift for the chicken lover in your life.

What a great book! "For Cluck's Sake" is. It is fun, hilarious, and interesting. It is filled with facts about chickens, stories, recipes and of course, jokes & one-liners. It is a fun way to spend a few hours and even gain a bit of knowledge. It also has some great photography. I highly recommend it!

The book has some featured breeds of chickens with full color photos. There are stories about where chicken recipes came from. There are facts about egg grading and size. There are tons of facts about chickens. My favorite might have been all the quotes about chickens. Some of these mention chickens. Others replace words like friends for the word chickens.

I had a fun time reading this book and learning about chickens. It's not a serious book at all, but had lots of interesting things to learn.

I wasn’t really sure what to expect from this book but I now know a lot more about chicken than I ever thought – like they poop while they are sleeping. *shrugs* If you’re into chicken or just think the title of the book is funny, it might be worth checking out.

While this is not a book that gives any advice about how to raise chickens, it is delightfully entertaining. It is full of interesting information. Facts. Quotes. Trivia. History. All accompanied by beautiful photography.
