I love a good romance and this is exactly what you get with this novel.
An easy read that makes you smile and feel all warm inside!
Cannot fault it at all.
A story that with all its simplicity really manages to draw you in and become invested in what happens to the characters.
I'd happily read it again.
A fun filled Christmas with a difference
Highly amusing in parts
Keeps you entertained to the end can highly recommend
This is my first book by this author the cover really attracted me to the book and so glad it did as simply brilliant and didn't want it to end as so good. The characters are outstanding and the plot to the story is sparkling and so true to life. Didn't want to put it down at all and full of amour, finding family members and deciding what is best for you instead of being told by others. It's heartbreaking but exhiliriting to. Also about being who you want to be and happiness.
Words cannot describe just how much I LOVED this novel. It was romantic, it was adventurous and was just overall a really lovely, cosy novel. The cover is absolutely stunning - I love the colours of the sky, the snowy trees and the cute little buildings with the huge Christmas tree in the centre! Everything draws you in and automatically makes you want to read it.
The story itself was completely gripping - straight from the first page. I felt so sorry for Frankie and everything that she'd been through and I was so happy for her when she ran away from her own wedding! I was so pleased that she decided to get away from her awful relationship and I'll be honest I found myself getting so irritated with Frankie's grandmother! I just thought, how dare she speak to Frankie like that? That's why I was shocked when Frankie decided to go back to England - but to be fair, family is family in the end.
Jonas was an absolute dreamboat and I loved him! He was such a gentleman and I was so hoping that him and Frankie would work out their differences and be together! It was such a romantic setting, what with the snow, the northern lights and then Christmas. It was just such a great novel and I cannot praise it enough. Another part of the novel that I loved was Frankie and her mother, Freya's relationship. It was so lovely to see their relationship blooming and going from strength to strength. One of my favourite parts was when they were baking together. It just made me feel so warm inside and it was lovely to read.
Overall, I cannot recommend this novel enough. It deserves more than 5 stars and I urge you to read this. It was a perfect novel to cosy up with and Darcie Boleyn at her finest. Thank you to the publisher for a chance to read this novel, which I have reviewed honestly.
Loved loved loved this book!! Didn’t want it to end. A great book of love, forgiveness and deciding ur own path. Definitely looking out from more by this Author
This is my first book by this author the cover really attracted me to the book and so glad it did as simply brilliant and didn't want it to end as so good. The characters are excellent and the plot to the story is brilliant and so true to life. Didn't want to put it down at all and full of romance, finding family members and deciding what is best for you instead of being told by others. It's heartbreaking but heartwarming to. She heads to Oslo and googles her mothers name as she knows she's an artist she finds her but at the gallery Jonas works for her mother and he's handsome and not normally Hayley's type. Jonas is set on getting mother and daughter back together but he knows he will not be able to stay with Hayley if they do love each other as she knows she has a life to go back to in England. With she learn the truth to why her mother left and will she be able to have a relationship with her again what will her grandmother say when she's heard she is with her mother and how will her father react as she was his only love. Will Hayley and her father find happiness and move forward or will they still be under the thumb of the grandmother.
Simply brilliant read and so hooked and didn't want it to end.
From its stunning cover, the hilarious first few chapters, and then the way the story develops, well this is just fabulous. A heartwarming tale taking in a runaway bride, a trip to Norway, finding a parent and even more, discovering yourself too.
Where do I start in explaining how much I loved this book - when I wasn't reading it I was wondering why, when I was I was hoping the ended would never appear, as I was enjoying the story so much.
There are many directions and subplots, most of which I didn't predict which just added to the compelling qualities of this story. There were some fabulous storylines, great writing, beautiful descriptions, some emotion, plenty of laughs and some romance too - I mean what else do you need - and I did I mention it also features a trip to see the Northern Lights, a sexy photographer, a quaint art gallery and a good idea of what Oslo is like in November.
I would say this is more of a wintery book, perfect to read curled up by the fire, although I may have been just as content reading it in the sun during August! Most of the story is set in November, so its not what I would classify a Christmas book per se, more one that could be read at any time of the year, although Christmas does feature.
I loved almost all the characters in this, apart from Frankie's grandma, but I could understand her towards the end at least. I just got such a great feeling reading this that I can't really put into words, and' I don't really want to to comment on the plot as I think its best left to be discovered for yourself.
This really is a wonderful book to add you your must reads stack for this winter, and its one of my favourites from this author.
Thank you to Netgalley and Canelo for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
A wonderfully sweet story of love, forgiveness, and learning to follow your own path :c)
My review has been posted to my blog & Goodreads.
Review has also been tweeted as usual.
Thank you! :c)
Frankie leads a very privileged lifestyle but she isn’t happy so when she leaves her fiancé at the alter and makes a dash for the airport it all goes wrong! Her overbearing grandmother and her loving doting father want her home but Frankie heads to find her absent mother and discover why she abandoned her and in the process find herself.
I am very biased with Darcie’s books as Corwenna Cove is one of my favourite series but this was just a wonderful read and I loved it. Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for this arc in exchange for my honest review,
Frankie runs from her fiance on the morning of their wedding. She isn't in love with him and only said yes to the engagement as her family expected her to. Her family are mad at her so she doesn't know where to go and ends up heading to Norway to find her estranged mother.
A book about family, secrets and relationships.
I love Norway and would love to see the northern lights so always enjoy reading books set there.
This is a first for me by this author and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
The cover is what first drew me to the book... I'm glad it did as it's a fantastic read.
The first few chapters are hilarious, and the way the story develops is just amazing.

Thank-You Netgalley for my ARC.
This is a gorgeous book to read and it has a stunning cover!
I love this authors books and was delighted to see that she had a new release out for Christmas 2018 and after reading the blurb I knew it was a book I wanted to get my hands on and I certainly wasn’t disappointed.
The author managed to completely transport me to the locations in the book, I have been lucky enough to see the Northern Lights myself on a couple of occasions so it brought back some lovely memories too!
Five stars from me, another superb book from this author – a complete treat for Christmas – I loved it!!
Firstly how magical is that cover! It has got to be one of the most stunning covers I have ever seen! The colours are gorgeous! So after seeing that I was so so excited to get stuck in and read it!
Love at the Northern Lights is the best book I have read it has got to be my favourite. I absolutely loved it! Every single page was a pure joy to read and it made me so happy. I had tears in my eyes so many times - a mixture of happy and sad ones so prepare the tissues!
Frankie was a fantastic character you just love her from the first page, she is a girl I would love to be friends with, she is so kind and friendly and I just wanted her to find her happy ever after and she so desperately needs it! Oh and Jona's! Hubba Hubba he is amazing! I think I have fallen in love with him!
The Northern Lights is something I would love to visit and see and I absolutely loved hearing about them in this book and I thought it was the perfect location for this book - So Romantic!
Such a magical romantic book!
Frankie runs from her wedding, and resolves to find her mother who left her as a baby. Will she find her, and happiness, in Oslo.? A lovely read, hard to put down to find the outcome for Frankie, her parents and her strict, unloving grandmother.
What a beautiful story! I picked up this book as loved the sound of a Christmas theme and I love the northern lights and this book did not disappoint.
It was a beautiful story of the lovely Frankie, who the morning of her wedding decides she needs to take ownership of her life and do what she wants to do. A story about relationships, finding happiness and having the confidence to follow your heart.
I was enthralled once I picked it up and did not put it back down until I had finished the story of how Frankie embarks on a quest to find happiness and write her own destiny.
Oh my goodness me, where do I even start with my review of this book?!
Have you ever felt obligated to go through with something, just so that you don’t upset the apple cart, aka ‘family’? Haven’t we all?
How many of you have said ‘yes’ to doing something without even thinking of yourself in the process? Again, haven’t we all?
It’s Frankie’s wedding day and she isn’t exactly feeling, how can I put this….in the marital mood. Her friends and family are all around her, ready to support her on her wedding day, but unless Frankie is there to support herself, what chance does she have for a happy marriage and a happy life?
Without her mum there to give her last minute advice, Frankie’s dad steps in to do the honours. Will she listen to a man who is so governed by his own mothers opinion that he’s lost sight of his own identity? Or will she do what she feels is right for everyone else?
What a beautifully written, engaging, humorous and utterly perfect read! I wish I could sit here and discuss all of the bits of the book which made me go ‘OMGGGGG’ or ‘awwwww!!!’ or ‘oh wow!’. But I can’t. For someone who has a big mouth (me that is), it’s incredibly difficult being vague about this book – it is totally worth it though!!
Frankie is the sort of character who I warmed to instantly. Her personality was invigorating. Her outlook on life was relatable, and her flourishing, gut instinct was a joy to watch.
‘Love at the Northern Lights’ isn’t just a book about a wedding and the Northern Lights, it is so much more than that. Honestly, this storyline kept on giving every time I turned the page! Every single chapter made me feel as though it was my birthday due to the love, the joy, and the heartwarming moments which made me smile from ear to ear.
This book is everything I could have wished for in a book, and then some. Darcie Boleyn, in my humble opinion, has written her best book yet. Not only has the author incorporated a situation into the storyline which a lot of readers may find themselves relating to, she has also brought her characters alive with the power of her own heart. It’s very clear that Darcie Boleyn believes in her characters and what they signify, because if she didn’t, this storyline would not have come across as powerful and touching as it ended up being.
You’ve either got the that fire in your belly to create a storyline which evokes a reaction both heartwarming and emotional in one sentence, or you haven’t. Darcie Boleyn certainly has that fire, and she has that heart because I’ll tell you something for nothing, stories like ‘Love at the Northern Lights’ cannot be googled, as it takes an extremely special writer to produce a novel like this.
One of the best books I have read so far this year, ‘Love at the Northern Lights’ brightened up my night in a way I never knew was possible. A beautiful, beautiful portrayal of life, loss, forgiveness and love – I was absolutely devastated to say ‘goodbye’ to such a wonderful bunch of characters. Darcie Boleyn has outdone herself massively with her latest release – I urge you all to grab a copy as you will NOT regret it. Just….wow, wow, wow.
📚 Book Review 📚
This was supposed to be published yesterday but blogger is refusing and Im fed up with waiting-apologies @darcieboleynauthor & Ellie @canelo_co 📚
Its no secret that Im a fan of Darcie's writing and despite having neglected my book & blogger duties of late, I couldn't say no to being part of the blog tour!

Doubts creep in and at the last minute she decides to bolt, much to her Grandmothers disgust - what will her social acquaintances think?! As she embarks on a journey to discover why Freya abandoned her as a baby, she is also faced with learning some home truths about her family as well as allowing her heart to explore with the lovely Jonas.
#LoveAtTheNorthernLights is a wonderful story about love, forgiveness and learning to move on. Its about hopes and dreams and belief that you can achieve something if you really want it.
There are gorgeous settings and scenes throughout the novel along with characters you can't help but get engrossed into.
A delightful #read for the lead up to #Christmas
I'm going to start straight away by saying that I loved this book! Darcie Boleyn creates the most balanced, loveable and beautiful stories that always make me smile. As soon as I saw the title of this book I was so happy! It's my dream to see the Northern Lights and I'm determined to do it one day but for the time being I will have to experience them through books. So the addition of the Northern Lights just made this book all the more magical for me. I was well and truly whisked away to Norway!
In this story we follow Frankie who decides to try to sort out her very complicated family situation and in the process meets Jonas. Think Chris Hemsworth as Thor and you can begin to imagine Jonas, I think I was halfway in love myself. This all created a wonderful emotional connection as you have a little bit of family drama along with a beautiful romance. Frankie goes on quite a journey and I loved seeing her blossom as she faces her past.
Now that the weather is starting to get colder I couldn't think of anything better than curling up with this book, you really are in for a charming and loveable treat.
With Love at the Northern Lights you get an uplifting, romantic and beautiful story. Just perfect!
Five stars from me!
Oh what a truly wonderful and delightful read. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this whilst curled up on my sofa.
The author draws you right in to the story pretty quickly with meeting and getting to know all of the characters and experiencing the illidicit and picturesque setting/location of Norway, was so very easy to lose myself in this story.
I loved my visits to Norway, really did feel like I was there for real, as it was all so well described and well written. The mentions of the Northern Lights just sounded beautiful, although as much as I'd love to see them for real, not sure I could have coped with the extreme cold weather conditions lol.
The story was lovely, a very nice easy read with a few emotional and heartfelt moments throughout. Loved the characters, getting to know Frankie, Freya, Hugo and Jonas, and seeing how things progress and develop with them all throughout the story.
Oh and I absolutely adored Luna, who is Jonas husky dog, I just wanted to cuddle her all the time, but then I do have such a soft spot for them.
This book was super cute! It has humour, drama and of course romance. It kept me hooked from the very beginning and felt very true to real life while still being a wonderful story. It also has the cutest cover!
I will definitely be reading more by this author in the future.
Darcie Boleyn is back with an irresistible new romantic read that is simply outstanding, Love at the Northern Lights! Funny, poignant and impossible to put down, Love at the Northern Lights is another mesmerizing read by this fabulous writer!
Frankie Ashford always imagined her wedding day to be a celebration full of romance, flowers and confetti – she certainly never imagined that she would be climbing out of a window in her dress and tiara and hightailing it out of there as fast as her feet could carry her! Hopping onto a plane to Oslo in Norway, Frankie plans to find her estranged mother and try and make peace with the past. But fate has lately got into the habit of pulling the rug from under Frankie’s feet as she discovers when she slips on the ice and ends up being swept into the arms of strong and sexy Viking, Jonas Thorsen.
Jonas and Frankie soon find themselves drawn to one another, and even though they come from different worlds, an attraction that simply cannot be ignored soon ignites between the two of them. Yet, Jonas knows that any relationship he might have with Frankie will be transient, because she has made it perfectly clear that her life is in London and he cannot imagine ever leaving Oslo behind as family means everything to Jonas. Although time might be ticking on their romance, Jonas is determined to help Frankie find her mother. Jonas will reunite Frankie with her missing parent and provide her with all the answers she is seeking. But the more time Jonas spends with Frankie, the more he finds himself falling for her.
With Christmas fast approaching, the northern lights soon work their magic on Frankie and Jonas, but will they have the courage to take a chance on love and a leap into the unknown? Or will they play it safe and spend the rest of their lives living with broken hearts?
Darcie Boleyn’s writing never fails to shine and sparkle and Love at the Northern Lights is a gorgeous, uplifting and captivating romance that made me want to book the first flight to Norway! A story about hope, healing and second chances set against a meticulously recreated background, Love at the Northern Lights is a heartwarming romance with a gorgeous Viking hero, a fantastic heroine and love, laughter and drama aplenty.
A writer who pens immersive romantic stores that hold me spellbound from start to finish, Darcie Boleyn’s name on a book cover is a surefire guarantee of an engrossing and compelling tale readers will simply not want to put down and Love at the Northern Lights is certainly no exception. Fast-paced, poignant and a joy from beginning to end, Love at the Northern Lights is another winner for Darcie Boleyn!
I have reviewed five of Darcie Boleyn’s books and love them all. She has such an amazing talent for writing and this is evident in every book. Her latest, Love at the Northern Lights is no exception. It follows the story of Frankie, a runaway bride who ends up changing her honeymoon destination to Norway and going in search of her mother Freya. She ends up meeting Jonas and they are great together.
Love at the Northern Lights is a story that’s filled with romance, secrets and discovery as well as sadness surrounded by a beautiful landscape and the Northern Lights. The atmosphere is cosy, romantic and the pace is such that you will not want the book to end. Darcie Boleyn books are addictive and despite the winter theme of the book, it can be enjoyed year-round. The characters are very real and all likeable apart from Frankie’s grandmother. The mention of vintage clothing hooked me and there was a lot of humor at the beginning of the book. There are secrets and harsh realities to be dealt with, too.
Love at the Northern Lights is not to be missed. I am honoured to have reviewed an ARC of the book in exchange for an honest and voluntary review. Thank you so much to Darcie Boleyn and Canelo for my ARC and my slot on the blog tour. This book really deserves 5 sparkly stars!
I had never read a book by this author before, but the cover attracted me to read it.
The book starts with Frankie who is about to be married, but she has doubts. She feels forced into the marriage by her over-bearing Grandmother. She breaks off the Wedding, and runs away to Norway, where she hopes to find her estranged Mother who left when she was a baby.
She meets Jonas, who leads her to get Mother, and helps them to rekindle their relationship. Frankie learns the truth about why her Mother left, and encourages her to come home with her when there is bad news from home. Jonas comes too, as he and Frankie are beginning to have feelings for each other. Back in England it is apparent that Frankie leads a completely different lifestyle to him.
Frankie is torn between her love for Jonas, and family commitments. It seems impossible that their relationship can continue.
This book is amusing in places, but also has a strong moral theme, about family, and how making the right choices can be difficult.
The story moves seamlessly between England and Norway. The descriptions of Norway are stunning, and make you wish that you are there. I was sorry when the story finished as I would have liked to have read more about Frankie and Jonas. I enjoyed this book very much, it was well written, and I am looking forward to reading more books by this author.
I received a preview copy of this book from Netgalley in return for a fair review.
This is another brilliant 5* romance from this highly talented author, IMHO, possibly her best story so far. Starting with a hen party, then Frankie Ashford absconding from her own wedding, this story has a hilarious start and is an emotive adventure as Frankie travels to Oslo hoping to meet her mother who left when Frankie was just a baby. It is a story of discovering what happened in the past, reuniting and moving forward to a new destiny.
There are plenty of sub plots interwoven into this story to create a beautiful tapestry of events. The evocative descriptions of Norway bring it to life and make it easy to believe you're actually there - including tasting some of the delicious foods on offer, which were mouthwateringly portrayed. It has really made me want to visit to see it all for myself! The characters are easy to relate to, many feeling like people you really know as their motivations both now and in the past, together with their actions and emotions are described, bringing them to life in the imagination of the reader. There isn't just one romance in this story, there's a new one for Frankie and a second-chance one for another couple. It is a story of heartbreak but is also heart warming, I loved it and have no hesitation in highly recommending it.
I requested and was given a copy of this book, via NetGalley. This is my honest review of the book after choosing to read it.
I do love a bit of escapism with Darcie Boleyn.Off to the Northern Lights with this one and it’s very fluffy and nice to just head off with Frankie, spend time with her and her Viking man and then head to the wonders of Tromso. And oh that cake! There’s lots to enjoy here, it’s all very cosy but then sometimes this is just what you need.
The scene setting as ever is lovely with little snippets of history and observations thrown in. The colours of the sky, lying underneath reindeer skins....it might be a Christmas set read but I enjoyed this in the middle of September.
Review: Love at the Northern Lights is an exceptional read. I am a very big fan of Darcie Boleyn's and love all her stories but this one is now my firm favourite story. I was super excited to be asked to review and to be apart of the blog tour and would like to thank Canelo.
Before I get into the review I just want to make note of the beautiful cover and title of this book. It just screams 'you must read me now' it has a lovely Christmas vibe to it.
I was totally blown away by the depth to the characters. Darcie always creates great characters but there is something about Frankie, Freya and Jonas that is special. Love is at the heart of the plot and not just shown through a romantic relationship but with family relationships as well.
The setting Norway is lovely I wont give too much away here as it is just amazing reading it and discovering it for yourself as a reader but it's very romantic and Christmas in London sounds so cosy.
This is a must read for any one who loves a good romance with elements of family pressures. It is full of love and hope for the future.
Darcie Boleyn is one of my favourite romance authors so it’s always a pleasure reading her latest book. She consistently manages to sweep me away to wonderful locations and Love at the Northern Lights is no different. Norway is a place that I’ve never even thought about visiting but the descriptions of Oslo made me want to “do a Frankie” and jump on the next plane over there!
Leaving your fiancé at the alter takes a lot of courage but Frankie did exactly that! Although I couldn’t blame her once I met aforementioned fiancé but still, it seemed a very extreme way to end a relationship. Frankie wasn’t the most likeable of characters to begin with, I found her a little spoilt and shallow but that soon changed once she arrived in Oslo. The journey to reconnect with the mother who abandoned her as a baby was a brave one to take but it lead to her meeting Jonas, the Thor lookalike, who lives a life a million miles away from the one enjoyed by Frankie. Their resulting romance is a sweet, and almost innocent, meeting of perfect soulmates that brought a warm fuzzy glow to my heart.
This is a captivating tale of lost opportunities, forgiveness and taking chances that pulled me immediately into the beautifully written storyline. I adored Jonas, especially his outlook on life, so I think we definitely need more Norwegian men in romantic fiction! And now I’m off to price up that weekend break in Oslo!
Great romance highly recommended by me.
When we first meet Frankie she is due to be married to Rolo, when her dad tells her its not too late to back out, if she doesn't want to marry him. Frankie runs off, but not before a chastisement from her grandmother. Heading to the airport with just her suitcase that was packed for her honeymoon. Frankie isn't sure what to do next. The scene in the airport bathroom had me laughing. Trust me I'm sure it will make you laugh too. While pondering what to do next Frankie decides to head to Norway its time to find her mum. Darcie Boleyn does a lovely job of describing the scenery, you really feel as if you are with Frankie. With a little internet search Frankie tracks down her mum Freya. She also meets the lovely Jonas too, who is a great help at facilitating the relationship between mother and daughter. Jonas feels an attraction to Frankie but realises nothing can become of it as she will be going back to her world. When the grandmother is taken ill Frankie rushes back home with her mother and Jonas with her. When we first meet the grandmother she isn't a likable person, but we find out what has made her that way, she does redeem herself a little. I really enjoyed my time with Frankie and co, as they navigate their way to a happy ending.Highly recommended for fans of contemporary romance.
Fab-U-lous!! Different to any other Christmas book I've read this year, this one sparkles and dazzles from beginning to end!
Frankie find herself wearing her designer wedding dress, with her hair pinned in place and decides it's the last place she wants to be. Making an undignified exit, she needs to get away somewhere and plumps for Oslo where she may even manage to find her estranged mother. Who she bumps into is a viking-like man who saves her from a nasty fall and, attractive as he may be, the last thing on Frankie's mind is romance. After all, she's just had a lucky escape!
This is a humdinger of a read; a wonderful storyline, stunning location and lots and lots going on. The author skilfully brings it all together into a heart-warming, enriching tale which will make every reader yearn for snow this Christmas! A novel to wallow in and soak up and which will truly leave you with plenty of festive spirit. What a fantastic cover too, and one which this book definitely deserves. Just gorgeous from beginning to end, absolutely perfect!
My thanks to publisher Canelo for my copy via NetGalley and the invitation to join in this Blog Tour, which I'm thrilled to be kicking off today. This is my honest, original and unbiased read.
A story of mothers and daughters, injustice and second chances in scenic Norway and fashionable London and romance that will last longer than the festive season.
A lovely, romantic tale with a festive twist. Frankie runs away from her wedding and her controlling grandmother and decides to find the mother who walked out on her when she was a baby. Her only clue a postcard her mother sent from Norway.
Norway is full of surprises and possible romance until a call from London means she has to go home. The relationship between Frankie and her mother is poignant and realistic and there is lots of simmering romance amid the snow and the Northern Lights.
An easy to read festive tale which will make you smile.
I received a copy of this book from Canelo via NetGalley in return for an honest review.
Frankie runs from her wedding and as she doesn't have a place to stay, she goes to the airport and decides to go to Norway. She wants to find her mother, who left her, when she was a baby. When Frankie locates her mother's gallery, she also meets Jonas and the two feel mutual attraction right from the start. The trip to Norway did good to Frankie and her mother, they finally have a chance to talk about everything. Frankie was finally able to overcome her doubts and fears about her mother and her past. A handsome Norwegian man also has a special place in her heart since they met for the first time.
I really liked the book in general, but the parts that were set in Norway I absolutely adored. I loved the description of the cold and snowy weather, watching the northern lights while laying on the reindeer skin by the fire and the local food. The characters were are likeable, except Frankie's grandmother, who didn't really want to consider other people's opinions or feelings. Frankie came from money, but she wasn't snooty or spoiled at all and Jonas was a real gentleman, a bit modest but really caring and sweet. Overall I found it well written book with interesting characters and a lot of emotion in the story.
A story as magical and wonderful as the aurora borealis ...
Darcy Boleyn has become one of my go to authors for stories that I know will take me to a place of wonder that will fill my heart with warmth and joy. Each story that the author writes you can appreciate the setting and almost experience it just like the characters written on the pages. Love at the Northern Lights is a story that takes you from the city metropolis of London to the idyllic sounding city of Oslo, Norway. A city that sounds full of culture, charm and with the added wonder of a community that enjoys the spectre of the mesmerising dance of colours within the night sky, known as the northern lights.
Frankie Ashford was on the countdown to her wedding to fellow socialite Rolo Bellamy. Frankie's family was full of wealth and living in the grand house with her Grandmother and Father, Frankie was used to her life being mapped out before her, including her forthcoming nuptials. However, on her wedding day Frankie felt that something was amiss and before she makes the biggest mistake of her life she has to make a big decision. Frankie's decision takes her to Norway with just her honeymoon clothes and a mission to find her estranged mother.
With the drama and mayhem of escaping her own wedding we follow Frankie to the snowy climes of Norway. A journey that is filled with trepidation, enlightenment, forgiveness, new beginnings and new friendships.
I loved Frankie's story. It was such a whirlwind of emotional upheaval for her. I felt like I'd laughed with her, cried with her and fallen in love with a new country and new friends. A story that will have you absorbed and entranced from start to finish. It will also have you reaching for the Norwegian travel brochures!
Beautiful, feel-good literature to bring a warm glow to you during the changing seasons; seasons that were meant for reading.
A magical setting for a book, very interesting and likeable characters, romance, family issues, all tied up in a neat story. Perfect reading for a cosy autumn or winter evening.
When Frankie realises what a mistake she is making and runs away from her own wedding she decides to run to Norway and find her long lost mother.... but she also finds the gorgeous Jonas!
Another lovely book by this author, I have loved all of her books and this one doesn't disappoint, there are plenty of twists and turns and great characters, even the mean grandmother! Great book to curl up in front of a fire with
A lovely story that totally involves you with you hoping for a happy ending. It was easy to read and kept you wanting to not put the book down. Recommended for those who enjoy this genre.
I have never read a Darcie Boleyn book I haven't enjoyed and this is no exception. She's a gifted writer who knows how to craft a story to hold your interest from the beginning to the end. Perfect.
This is a really lovely story about how parents/grandparents decisions can really impact on a child and the way it maps their future.
Frankie is a really likeable character and you support the choices she makes and just hope she makes the right ones too....
This is an easy and enjoyable story to read. It has some twists along the way, whilst other parts are more predicable. The characters are believable and you get to know them well.
When Frankie decides to step off the path that her domineering Grandmother has set out for her and travel to Norway in search of her mother, you find yourself rooting for her from the very start. Oslo is beautifully described and you can hear the crunch of the snow beneath her feet and the crisp, cold of the snow. It all seems like a slightly magical place, never more so than when she travels north in search of the Northern Lights. There is a festive feel to the story and a sparkle and glitter about the place.
There is a strong, hopeful message. Can you forgive mistakes from the past and grasp second chances, looking forwards, never back? The romance is a slow burn, always there beneath the surface but there is also much to be said about family relationships. When Frankie meets Jonas, there is a clash of cultures with her privileged yet cold upbringing contrasting with his more humble but warm family life. Yet they also find that they have a lot in common. With strong characters and a wonderful setting, this is a great winter read.
In short: shimmering festive romance and a heart-warming tale.
Thanks to the author for a copy of the book.
Really great read. It takes you on a really great journey of different emotions.
It is the story of Frankie who lives with her father and grandmother. When she was a baby her mother abandoned her and on her 18th birthday her mother sends her a letter with an address on. Now 29 Frankie is about to get married and walks out and goes to the airport and gets on a flight to Oslo. Where her mother lives.
Will things work out? It was fun and funny, filled with strapping nordic men, mince pies, and forgiveness.
Thoroughly enjoyed it.
Frankie is a runaway bride – fleeing from Rolo, a man she doesn’t love, but who she feels duty bound to marry, to please her grandmother. After running out on the wedding, she’s not sure what to do, and ends up at the airport. Making an impulsive decision, she books a flight to Norway to track down her estranged Mum, a mum who walked out on her when she was a very young baby, and who ended up living in Norway. One day, Frankie encounters a Norwegian stranger Jonas and they quickly develop a friendship, and together they find her mother. All too soon Frankie has to return to her privileged life in London, but where will fate take her?
Darcie Boleyn has become one of my favourite authors, and I didn’t think anything could beat the Conwenna Cove series, until I read this! I absolutely adored this story– the description of Norway was enchanting, and the whole tale was captivating and the characters were completely believable.
Having spent a weekend in Norway many years ago, this book bought back so many lovely memories, and I felt like I was transported back there again.
Feel good story of relationships and romance with Norway thrown in for good measure. Nice story which was pleasant to read - finished it in one day whilst on holiday.
Thanks to the publishers and Netgalley for a thoroughly enjoyable, romantic read.
The story is full of interesting characters and the author describes everything so well that you can really imagine that you are there with the characters in both Norway and England. There is a definitely a festive magical feel to the story, never more so than when she travels north in search of the Northern Lights and took me back to when I visited Lapland.
Frankie Ashford is running away from her own wedding much to her domineering Grandmother’s annoyance. She heads to the airport still wearing her wedding dress and tiara and pulling the suitcase she was meant to take on her honeymoon. She doesn’t have a plan on where she is going to go but, she just knows that she has to get far away.
Sitting in the airport café she pulls out the postcard she has been carrying around with her for years, a postcard from her mum who she hasn’t seen since she was just a baby. She doesn’t know whether her mum will still be at the same address, but she decides to find out and heads to the destination on the postcard – Norway.
There is definitely a moral to this story. Can you forgive mistakes from the past and grasp second chances, looking forwards and never back?. When Frankie meets Jonas, there is a clash of cultures with her privileged yet cold upbringing contrasting with his more humble but warm family life. Yet they also find that they have a lot in common and their romance develops slowly. With strong likeable characters and a wonderful setting, this is a great winter read.
I love stories like this, an easy read with plenty to keep me interested. Having read this author before I was looking forward to this one.
The author starts with some very funny chapters, I laughed so much at the hen night antics. She then takes us on a journey to places I would love to visit some day. I have always dreamt of seeing the Northern Lights.
The story is very well told, there is plenty of intrigue throughout as Frankie attempts to find out the secrets of her past and try to find out if she can have a relationship with the mother who abandoned her.
The characters are written well, the story flows throughout, and I thoroughly enjoyed the story.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for providing a copy.
Read this until 2am this morning. Wonderful characters, stunning scenery and “Thor”. What more could you ask for?
Frankie has left her future husband at the church and decides to take a must needed trip to Norway, not only because of the beautiful landscapes and handsome men, but to try to find her mother. Luckily for her, this trip will be an end and start for her life, she will find more than she ever searched, but will she be strong enough to accept it?
This had been a sweet and delicious story, I have to say I read it in one stand and I couldn't put it down! But it was not only a sweet story that makes you love this book, is the past of Frankie, telling how was her childhood without a mother; how her mother has lived all these years without seeing her daughter and of course how Frankie decides to take a step and fight for her dreams; that makes this story real and touchable. Of course we all not have a family with money to support us behind, but I think all of us can understand what it means that our family doesn't approve our desires and hopes.
It was interesting reading how Frankie's mother had to left her daughter and husband behind, simply because she was not "acceptable" in a richer family, you know, too idealist and crafty for the posh people...! But sadly, the relation between the wife and the mother-in-law sounded so familiar to me that it was scary!
The story totally transports you to the cold but beautiful Norway landscapes, I can tell you that they are as astonishing as you read the book, but quite pricey too! ;)
I really liked the story, but I would had liked a couple of more chapters, it was a brusque ending, letting everything explained in the epilogue,
This is a story to enjoy with a hot chocolate in a cold day, it will warm your heart and put a sweet smile on your face, because in life even if you were in a difficult position, you can have a nice ending!
We are introduced to the character of Frankie straight away in the storyline, who has literally just run out of her own wedding. Frankie knows that she does not want to marry Rolo, despite her over-bearing grandmother telling her she will be set-up for life by marrying into such a has been a notable family. Not knowing where to go, or what to do, Frankie heads to the airport and to Norway in search of her estranged mother.
I loved this book - perfect for this time of the year.
Full review can be found on my Blog.
A wonderful festive romance and set in such a great location, Norway. Frankie, a well-rounded modern woman who runs away from a life she can’t hack anymore. She has a desire to find the truth about her past and in the meantime finds love.
Oh, how I loved this. Okay, so I know it’s only September but as someone that loves Christmas I can read these kind of books all times of the year. Boleyn has a knack of building characters readers care about and so she does here with Frankie...yum.
Before you start reading Love at The Northen Lights, there is something you really need to do, make yourself a hot chocolate and get comfy on the sofa. This may sound strange, but trust me, from the moment you start reading you will not want to move until you have finished the book. The perfect read for these early autumn days.
From page one, Darcie’s style of writing transports us into Frankie’s life ~ to England and Norway ~ all without leaving your own home! The vivid descriptions, enjoyable characters and scenery has become a trademark of Darcie’s writing style. A style that makes for enjoyable and absorbing reading.
The story is centred around Frankie, whom is set to marry Rolo whom has a wealthy background. Frankie knows that by marrying him she will be comfortable financially for life. However, she recognises that she wants to marry for love…. queue the run away bride, a tear to her rather costly wedding dress and finding Rolo in the bushes with another woman…. she knows she’s doing the right thing, calling off the wedding
A quick decision finds Frankie at the airport on her way to Oslo. Frankie’s mother hasn’t been in her life much and she has only received the odd letter and postcard. This has left her wanting to find her mother, to find out why she left when she was a baby.
We join Frankie on her trip to Oslo. It’s not long before she meets Jonas, who is not materialistic and his life has centered around family. He is also set to reunite mother and daughter. And he starts to fall for Frankie. No spoilers as always….
This book is without a doubt another of Darcie’s master pieces, I love her style of writing and the scenes written at the Northen Lights really make you feel as though you are sat in the moment with the characters. An incredible writing trait to possess.
Sadly, the book had to come to an ending. I wanted to keep reading and turning the pages. An enjoyable and heart warming read. I loved the “follow your heart” theme through the boom. Looking forward to the next one.
Thank you once again to Ellie, Darcie and Canelo for our advanced copy.
