First off I would like to say I am not in favor of the word Weirdo to describe children who are different or have disabilities. Having raised a child with one I find it offensive. It is hard enough for a child to be different more or less change schools. This happens to Amy. Not only does she stutter but she changes schools. She has expectations of making new friends in her school but soon finds out it is very hard to fit in.She finds like people like herself and they are good friends and very supportive in her run for class president. I found it good in the respect it took a lot of courage for Amy to run for class president and she had a lot of hurtles to cross to do it. I would have rated this book a lot higher if the word Weirdo was omitted.
There was a great message in this book about accepting who you are that would resonate with upper elementary school age children. It might be too short for middle school. The main character finds positive and supportive friendships, which is another good lesson for children to see. Some of the actions of the secondary characters made me take a star off, and I really do wish it had been longer to hit the target demographic better. Thank you to West 44 Books for this ARC!
From time to time, you need a good, short book to keep you going. Preferably something with a feel-good aspect to it, maybe even something that shows you things can go right after all. That is, in all aspects, exactly what Amy Price for President will offer you. When she changes schools, Amy Price finds that her stutter strongly limits her (friendly) interactions with other children at her school. She even gets picked on quite a bit. Through her friendship with some other weirdos (moniker claimed by the title of the series!), she discovers that, when she's singing, she actually can get her message across without her stutter getting in the way. And that might even be the thing that helps her as she decides to run for president!
This is a quick read, with a nice, small cast of characters. A definite feel good ending (Amy conquers, after all), and it definitely got me curious about the other characters in the series.

I am reviewing a copy of Amy Vice For President through West 44 Books and Netgalley:
Amy Vice wants to make a name for herself on her first day of Middle School knowing that’s the most important time to make an impression on people but with her stutter Amy has a hard time making friends. Despite her Stutter Amy has a big dream and that is to be class president, she wants people to see her as a leader and not simply see her disability.
The first day of school Amy eats lunch alone but when she discovers the weirdo table that changes. It is here that Amy finds friendship as well as the courage to launch her presidential campaign.
I give Amy Vice for President five out of five stars!
