Description
A shy, late bloomer, the Honorable Judith Leslie survives her debut into Regency society despite ridicule of her height and her ruddy Scottish complexion from her more delicate contemporaries. But she surprises even herself when she boldly greets the eligible yet reluctantly marriageable Peter Tenwick, Viscount Caxton, at her first ball.
Their mutual attraction is instant, but when they speak to their respective parents, they learn that opposition to the union runs deep and personal. So deep that Peter's father arranges for him to marry instead the worst of the ill-tempered shrews who have made Judith's season so unpleasant.
In order to marry, Peter and Judith must not only overcome their parents' objection but find a substitute suitor for Peter's fiancée. Those obstacles become the least of their worries when Judith is kidnapped by a gang of smugglers and Peter must act fast to rescue his heart's treasure.

This is a case of instant attraction with Judith Leslie and Peter Tenwick, Viscount Caxton, meeting at during her first ball. However, all does not run smoothly as Judith, in her genuine honesty, comments on his usual attire. Surprisingly, Peter finds her honesty refreshing and seeks her out. It soon becomes apparent to them both, that Judith's mother and Peter’s father, fell in love but married others, leading to them parents forbidding them to have anything to do with each other. Peter’s father, in a desperate attempt to separate them, forces him to marry Cassandra, who has been vicious in her treatment of Judith.
From the very beginning, this story was full of emotion and action, with smugglers and treasures in the plot. I must admit that the characters of Cassandra and Lord Kingsley might have been developed further, as they played a substantial part in this story. An enjoyable read overall.
I received an advanced review copy from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
Judith's first Season in London is something her mother has been planning for years. When Judith spots Peter, Lord Caxton, it is like at first sight for both of them. He is wearing a purple coat and the first all-out of her mouth is how awful his coat is. Instant attraction leads Judith to ask him to dance. Peter is at her house first thing in the morning. Due to a personal matter between their parents, they are told they cannot see each other. Peter becomes engaged against his will but his betrothed agrees that it he will find her someone else to marry, she will jilt him. Peter follows Judith to a house party where he is not only looking for someone for his betrothed to marry, but he wants time with Judith. Secrets come out as do smugglers and treasure hunting. I liked this book a lot, but if a girl asked a man to dance with her, she would be ruined. I don't think she would have approached someone without an introduction, no matter how forthright she is. I received this book from Net Galley and Wild rose Press for a honest review and no compensation otherwise.
I absolutely loved this book by Marin McGinnis!! Judith and Peter's story warmed my heart! They are attracted to each other instantly, but their parents refuse to even consider a marriage between them. A love triangle, forbidden love and a kidnapping all wrapped up in this beautiful package! I highly recommend it!!!
