Description
Amara's move home is anything but fun. With her mom recovering from a cancer diagnosis, her only goal is to find a job in her field and support her family. But once she lays eyes on Travis Holt, she realizes her time in LA might be a lot more tolerable if she could use him to take her mind off things. For Travis, there's only ever been one rule: stay away from his best friend's sister. And it wasn't a problem until Amara moved back west all grown-up and sexier than sin. When she comes strutting around his gym every day, it's impossible to keep his eyes--and hands--off her. The one-off fling Amara imagined isn't possible with a God like Holt. And once Eddie finds out, they're suddenly cast into the turbulent waters of Something More, the unfamiliar terrain where Amara has to confront whether she can truly support someone whose career is the antithesis of everything she's worked for in the non-profit world.

My review for Breaking the Rules is written with mixed feelings. while I loved Travis’ character, unfortunately I did not like his love interest. Don’t get me wrong, Amara has many good qualities and her passion to help battered women cannot be denied, but her tendency to be judgemental and manipulative is off-putting and annoying. On this note her relationship with Travis seems more about what she can from their connection, for example, guilting him into providing workshops etc. rather than any deep emotional bond.
There are some lighter moments though, especially regarding the dilemma of dating your friend’s sibling; sneaking around, sexual tension and the over the top reactions to their attraction, were amusing and believable too. Overall, this is a sweet contemporary romance (sex is on the milder side) and will appeal to many readers, but was just OK for me.
I did not like this story at all. It had nothing to do with the writing but I really didnt like Amara at all. I kinda felt she looked down on Travis. I also felt that yeah Travis was hot and he did good things with his life but I like a littleemore sophisticated type of characters and the people at his club I would never go there, at times it felt dangerous. It was very LA Barrio type of story and its not what I look for in my escapism reading. So while it had nothing against the author if I had known I would not have requested to read it.
I am going to be a see-saw with this review and let me tell you why.. I loved Travis and I actually wished he had another love interest than Amara, why do you ask? Well let me tell you. I liked that she felt strongly about her cause (battered women shelter) loved the cause and would totally help, my issue was that she had no balance and she was judgy (yup made up a word) I mean we all have opinions but we need to respect the feelings and opinions of others.. Now don't get me wrong I did enjoy and would even tell you to read buuuuuut she bugged the hell out of me and for that I did not rate higher....Enjoy! ( forgot I had already read and reviewed..oops
ARC received for review
Amara comes home to help with her sick mom (but there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of that going on) and re-enters Hawk's world. Hawk who is her brother's BFF didn't realized that little Amara has grown up and gotten so hot. Lots of chemistry and him trying to do the right thing before they both give in to the heat. Then of course brother finds out and is hurt, but all's well in the end. Let's talk about the ending....they get together, admit to being in love, and BAM the book is done. Nothing extra..blah. What's wrong with writing an epilogue?

"Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for the advance copy of this book, in exchange for an honest review."
Loved this book very much. It had just enough sweet, sexy, suspenseful romance and the storyline was great! I highly recommend!
Amara moves back to LA after her mother gets sick. She worked with nonprofit organization for abused women. Travis is a MMA and has one of the most popular gyms around. He was a UFC fighter but got injured and has been out for three years but he is training for the championship. Amara’s brother Eddie is Travis’s best friend so Eddie has made it clear to all that no one is to mess with his sister. Amara wants Travis bad and does everything to get him to break the rules but Travis holds strong for awhile but he wants her with a passion. The fire between them burns hotter than either could have ever imagined. But will their relationship ruin the one they have with Eddie? Good story. First time reading this author and I’m glad I found her. The story is a friends to lovers. Secrets and some very hot sex scenes. I wasn’t fond of Amara at first but she redeems herself toward the end. * Voluntarily read and reviewed this for Netgalley *
I loved it, Just the kind of stories I like to read, I was hooked from page one and sucked into the book those are always the best.
I've received a ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
The easy flowing writing style was perfect and I was immensely impressed by the author. Unfortunately what I wasn't impressed by was Arama. I found her to be really immature and self centered, and it became almost a little diffcult to complete the series. Otherwise, everything/everyone else was fine.
I look forward to reading future works by the author.
I loved the book so much that I stayed up until I finished it.
The couple in the book were interesting to read about and the characters also amazing
3.5 stars
Wow
I loveeee it~
Breaking the Rules is hot, but I felt like it was lacking something.
It was a sweet, sexy, suspenseful romance. The forbidden romance was intense, i loved it.
Can't wait to read more from this author~
This is well written, good story and actully enjoyed all the characters can't wait for the next one.
Travis and Amara jump hurdles yo be with each other. 2 different people, from different cities with different views on life.
With Amara’s brother not liking bros and sisters get it on; Travis and Amara fight their passion as long as they can.
I loved this book! I can’t wait to read the second book and totally recommend this hot read..
Amara moves back home to help her mom recover from a cancer diagnosis and is looking for a job to help support her family. Travis is her brother best friend and her old crush, but when they see each other again sparks fly. Will Travis go against his friend’s rules and start a relationship with Amara? Will other barriers get in the way of their new relationship? I admit Amara was a bit annoying, however overall, I enjoyed this entertaining read.
I received an arc from Netgalley. What an intense read and I definitely could not put this book down. Eddies sister Amara comes back to LA and once she lays eyes on Travis, who is Eddies best friend, all bets are off. Against Eddies wishes these two just can’t stop their attraction for one another.
Thanks to the publisher for an ARC to read and give my honest opinion.
MMA style love romance. Amara comes back to help her mother go through stages of breast cancer and her brother Eddie is training at a gym. Amara falls for MMA hottie Travis Hoyt.
What did I like? The chemistry is off the charts as Travis and Amara Circle each other. Travis and Eddies are bro's and dating Amara seems like a sin. TBH the chemistry is off the chain for these two as the chemistry becomes too much.
Would I buy this book? Yes, he chemistry is panty combustible hot and they just make a great couple. The author writes it so you know Eddie will get his frustration before he gets his turn.
Thoughts for the author? I love beta reading for this author! Four fun stars of entertainment!!
This was the first novel I have read by this author but it won't be my last. This novel grabbed me from the very first page to the very last. The chemistry between Amara and Travis was off the charts. I can't wait to see what is coming next.
A bad break up six months earlier left trevor’s best friend- since they were fourteen years old- Eddie overweight and struggling. Travis gym- Holt Body Fitness was the sacred place for all people looking to improve their self or get back into shape. Even travis who had gone into beast mode for the past three weeks. His UFC injury had sidelined him for almost three years but now he was showing up to prove he still had it. No ACL tear could keep him away from the title again as he had already possessed the middleweight belt that he had possessed five times previously now he would be going up against Victor Lean for the best. Eddie mentioned possibly back to the gym if his sister Anara didn’t need the car. Amara had moved out East eight years ago for school barely ever coming home. Travis had no memories of her, Eddie said she came back as their mom had been sick- diagnosed with breast cancer. Eddie added she wanted to find a job. Eddie and his sister and mom were tighter than most families. Their mother had told Amara to go back to DC but Amara wouldn’t go she wanted to be with her mom and help. Travis said she could work there at the front desk until she was able to find a job there in LA. With the daily demands of sealing his business and preparing for his first televised match up in almost three years Travis didn’t have much time to work with huis gym as he’d like. Training eddie everyday was a great way to force himself to spend time hitting the floor again. The gym itself was a temple for him, a spacious retreat where he offered every kind of workout and sweat potential. This was the place he craved as he fought in the streets and than eventually on television through his early twenties. This upcoming fight was everything. The true chance to reestablish himself as star owner of Holt Body Fitness. The unexpected injury had helped Travis focus in his long term goal of owning a gym. Both running the gym and winning fights provided the attention he thrived on. The eye candy and celebrities were a constant in his gym. Travis’s job was all about growing his business, making a name for himself, and raking in the profit. The last time Travis had seen Amara was at her going away party about eight years ago. Amara said it looked like things worked out well for him. Travis asked if she was moving back to LA and she said she’d see how things went. Amara thought how travis had changed, he was npw hot as steel. He’d had money, success, amd good looks. She was very attracted to Travis. Amara didn’t know it but Travis was very attracted to her. I enjoyed this book. I liked Amara and Travis together. Although I thought Travis and Eand manipulative- getting Travis to offer free self defense classes- Eddie were better characters the Amara. Amara came off a little immature , manipulative, and definitely judgemental. Otherwise it was a good read. I didn’t want to put this down as I wanted to see what would happen next. I loved Eddie’s and Travis’s relationship and how Travis didn’t want to mess it up even though he really wanted Amara. There was hot chemistry between Amara and Travis. I enjoyed the plot and pace. This was an easy read. I did love the work Amara did in DC trying to help domestic violence victims- women. I liked the characters and the ins and outs of this book and I recommend it.
