I've been in a reading rut lately and was feeling so unexcited about starting something new. I received an email from St. Martin’s Press offering me a chance to read an Advanced Reader Copy of Michelle Adams' new book Between the Lies, and once I read the description, I knew I had to give it a chance. I am SO glad that I did. The book had my attention from the second I started reading and kept me guessing the entire time. I would come up with one theory only to be convinced of something different over and over again. I found myself very attached to Chloe and feeling so strongly towards her father which was quite unusual for me. I don't typically find myself so emotionally invested with characters. I enjoyed Between the Lies so much and I'm very excited to see that Adams has another book out. I can't wait to read that one too!

When I saw this book available on NetGalley - I requested it without reading the synopsis. I have read Michelle Adams' previous book last year and was amazed by the writing style and most importantly by its plot twists. And I am happy to report that this book did not disappoint me one bit.

Michelle Adams does not waste any time. She throws the reader right in the middle of the action. We meet our main character Chloe during a fatal car accident. Days later she wakes up from a coma with no memory of her previous life. Freaky, I know. However, everyone underestimates our little fighter. As weeks go by, and countless therapy sessions, Chloe starts to suspect that her family is hiding something from her. After multiple unanswered questions, our fearless Chloe takes the matter into her own hands and goes out into an unfamiliar world to find the truth and answers about herself and people that surround her. However, who can she really trust and how can she avoid walking into a well-set trap.

A phenomenal story about survival, and trusting your own intuition. No one knows us better than ourselves. Michelle Adams has outdone herself. I can't wait for her next book. Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin's Press Pub for a free copy of the book.

Sunday afternoon I sat down to read and early Monday morning I finished Between the Lies. In other words the book was a nonstop read. From the amnesia where nothing is remembered by the main character Chloe Daniels to her acceptance of her family she doesn't know, the questions abound. Of course she would have to get her memory back, it's the story, but how was she going to get there? As Chloe starts to recover, learns terrifying events of those days she cannot remember, deals with her psychiatrist father, tries to understand her mother sister and even the help, and finds little lies seem to be a family habit that stalls her memory I kept diving for clues as how the psychological thriller would resolve all things for Chloe. The plot keeps you jumping to conclusions, you root for Chloe, you boo her family, and you yell to Chloe to protect herself. Between the Lies is a very satisfactory novel to keep your mind running through all possibilities and conclusions that will bring everything to and end, and you will hope it is satisfying to you.

Excellent psychological thriller that hooks you from the get go and won’t let you go until you’ve read every last page. I love books that make me think and this one had me analyzing everything trying to guess the outcome. Chloe was in an accident and had amnesia, she was brought to her parents home and remembered absolutely nothing about her old life. Soon she learns she can’t trust anyone around here and that the things she thinks she knows aren’t true. Through the book you experience pain, grief, Love etc with Chloe, I love how the emotion just draws you in deeper.

I also absolutely loved the little trick towards the end, you’re practically yelling through the pages at Chloe and then sigh in relief in the end

I really didn’t want to read another book about an amnesiac woman trying to find out how she’d lost her memory but I’m glad I gave Between the Lies a chance. When Chloe Daniels wakes up in the hospital, she can’t remember anything, not even the strangers who call themselves her family. They seem to be trying to help her but they know everything about her when she remembers nothing about them. Chloe even starts noticing little inconsistencies and she shortly realizes that they are lying to her. How can she trust them then and how will she be able to figure out what happened? Also, there are bad lies and white lies. If something in your past was too painful, wouldn’t forgetting it be a blessing? Maybe her family is just trying to protect her because her life was not as perfect as it seems. I was completely in the dark about what was going to happen. There was one twist that I saw coming, but the rest were completely unexpected. The writing flows so easily that it’s a quick read and Chloe is such a good character that I wanted her to solve the mystery of her memory loss. This book is so good, it made me forget all the other amnesia books I’d read before.
I chose to read this book and all opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased. Thank you, NetGalley/SOURCEBOOKS Landmark!

Can you imagine waking up and not knowing who you are? Chloe does just that after a car accident. She is told her son died in the crash and her husband died a week before the car accident. To make matters worse, their funerals have already taken place. Chloe is devastated and feels as if all this is her fault. Upon discharge from the hospital, she goes back to her parents house to recuperate. Her Father, a well known psychiatrist, insists on treating Chloe with drugs and hypnosis because she suffered a serious brain injury in the car accident. Chloe becomes more confused and knows her parents are lying about things but can't quite figure out what.I

Michelle Adams has written an amazingly creepy story. She skillfully withholds information from her protagonist and her readers about this severely dysfunctional family where secrets are the norm. Much like Chloe, I felt confused about what happened and why these events didn't make sense. The plot is well thought out and I very much wanted to keep reading to find out what was going on

First, I want to thank Michelle Adams, St. Martin Griffin and NetGalley for providing me with this book so I may bring you this review.

Between the Lies by Michelle Adams is one of the best books in this genre I have read all year. It was fast paced, suspenseful, thrilling, exciting, a lot of twists and turns you won’t see coming, tragic at times, and a book that you won’t want to put down. Between the Lies is a book that truly lives up its title.

Michelle does a phenomenal job taking her readers inside Chloe’s amnesiacs mind post car accident. The detail of how she is feeling and coping is just incredible. You could tell she was really passionate about this character and wanted to bring out the best in this scene. It was an incredible original story with a lot of depth to it.

There is a good lesson in this book that I walked away with. Trust has to be earned not given. Don’t believe everything everyone tells you. Chloe found this out the hard way.

One thing is for sure Michelle is an incredible storyteller with an amazing imagination!!

This book had an amazing cast of characters and thrilling storyline I would love to see this be made into a Netflix Original Movie. I think it would do really well.

This is my first book by this Author and I loved it. I was drawn into the story on the first page and read past my bedtime to finish it. How horrible to awake from a coma to be told you were in a serious car accident and to have no memory of who you are, your family or your life. Chloe knows something isn't right and suspects she is being lied to but the extent of the lies are unimaginable. Lots of twists and turns. I will now read her book My Sister. Thanks to NetGalley, St Martin's Press and the Author for allowing me to read and review this book.

It is the stuff of nightmares. Just imagine, you awake in hospital in pain, confused and do not even know who you are and you are told these people are your parents and you are going home with them – strangers to you. This is what happened to our protagonist, Chloe Daniels. Following a car accident Chloe has been in a coma and suffered a severe brain bleed leaving her with no memory, a wound on her leg and various other injuries leaving her severely weakened. Fortunately her father is a psychiatrist and through hypnotherapy and medication is helping her to recover. Despite her lack of memory, things do not feel right to Chloe. Her father is somewhat bullish; her mother is obviously scared of him and her sister is somewhat hesitant with her. The house is nothing less than grim, her bedroom unchanged since she lived at home and she is not allowed to leave the house – even the gates are locked. It just does not feel ‘right’ and she alternates between trusting her instincts and doubting herself. Slowly Chloe discovers the secrets that her family are trying to conceal from her.

From the outset there is an overwhelming sense of foreboding especially when related to the father. His character is domineering and threatening and I could only feel distrust of his motives and fear for Chloe. The mother and sister were equally untrustworthy and their ‘gardener’, Ben, was perfectly positioned to be a ‘wrong un’. As for Chloe – of course you must sympathise with her, indeed fear for her but as the plot is revealed sometimes I thought ‘are you serious’.

This is a well-constructed plot, beautifully paced and with a few surprises so I can heartily recommend this psychological thriller.

Thank you to the author, publishers and NetGalley for providing an ARC via my Kindle in return for an honest review.
