Description

The greatest battles we face are with ourselves
In You vs You, author Todd Cahill starts with a simple premise: As people strive for any improvement in their lives—whether it’s more income, a better relationship, a promotion, a bigger business, or a better body—the most important battles they will face are against themselves. People invite problems into their lives through poor choices, apathy, indecision, arrogance, anxiety, selfishness, and other traits they would rather not discuss but must be addressed.

In this valuable book, Cahill shares what he has learned about these battles that either keep people from success and significance or usher them to victory. As a life coach and leadership trainer, he has taught thousands of people these lessons, and many of them are now experiencing a level of personal achievement, relational abundance, and financial freedom they never thought possible.

People often self-sabotage if they’re not mindful, wise, and willing. Cahill reinforces the idea that readers can choose today to fight against who they once were (or are) and become who they are made to be. You vs You is about that choice and the challenging, rewarding quest that ensues.

The first thing that stands out about this book is how real the author is....he tells on himself, both good and bad, and does so in a conversational tone. He pulls in several pop-culture references and anecdotes that bring his points to life, making the book very easy relatable for the reader. Some of the twelve points may be spot-on for you, while you might simply gloss over others. Being divided into definitive chapters, which don't have to be read in order, makes this easy to pick up and get through in small doses.

I'm not very keen on self-help books, but I like how this book was executed. Every topic started out with a quote. The given advice was backed up by a variety of studies and examples. In between, the author redefined the goal of the chapter. At the end of each topic, there were tasks on how to take action in order to win the battle against yourself. All in all it was wrapped up nicely though most of the things mentioned were already known to me.

This book was nicely written, and easy to read. Todd highlight 12 areas where you can improve your life, and perception. Some of the quotes, and stories used to demonstrate his ideas are really good, and do make you think. I also liked the little exercises, at the end of the chapters.
Overall this book is a good read, I have given three stars as I don’t think there is anything mind blowing in here, but it’s nicely done, and worth a read.
I was given an ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review, thank you to Netgalley, and the publisher.

This book started scoring points with me right from the start. In the Forward, Larry Cohn says, "Simply put, you are involved in everything you do. And thus, you are responsible for the decisions you have made." I am a firm believer in the fact that things do not happen to me; they happen because of me. I love the idea of taking an active role in making the changes I want to see in my life. The rest of the book forces you to question aspects of your life and guides you in getting where you want to be.

I really agree with the other review about how the author tells on himself. I enjoy reading about other people's failures, not because I am a mean sadist, but because it reinforces the fact that everyone has failures. It reminds me to not get too hung up on my own failures.

What I loved most about this book was the reflection questions at the end of each chapter. The key thing about making self-help books work for you is to do something active beyond just reading the text. The questions force readers to try to apply the book to their own life.

You vs You will be different for everyone who reads this book. This isn't the first book about how to become a better person but the author Toss Cahill breaks down what hold individuals back from finding their success. The author has it broken down into categories helping readers discover a way to find a better you. The author uses success stories, quotes, and examples that will gives readers insight.

This is your basic self help book but the author is able to add hiss own aspect that will create a unique and interesting looking at creating a better you.

I received this book from NetGalley (thank you!).

I was particularly interested in reading this book as I am currently working on my dissertation about mindset. I really enjoyed Cahill's voice and engaging tone throughout the text. The author touched upon several aspects of determination and grit that my research has found as well, so I found myself nodding to the work several times. Overall, this is an enjoyable book to help people get out of their own way.

I like the tone and format of this book. It's not just inspirational but it is also practical as it offers insights into daily personal struggles and how we can overcome them.
I love the quotes shared at the beginning of every chapter too.
Thanks Netgalley for the eARC. One thing readers are guaranteed with this book is that they will relate to every chapter and situation because the author's tone is as conversational and practical as can be.

I like how Cahill breaks down the categories that often hold people back. He provides easy to relate to scenarios and offers specific ideas to make changes. His writing style flows and drew me through the first three battles in one sitting.

I would definitely recommend this book to others. I will add though, when I looked up more about the author, I felt a disconnect. He "looks" to be living a life completely contrary to mine and it felt weird.
