Murder Between the Pages is a novel written by Linda Hope Lee. It is a mystery revolving around Nina Foster, a librarian in a small town. Nina Foster's best friend has been murdered and Nina finds herself investigating the murder. In the process she uncovers many intrigues and secrets about people close to her, but she also stumbles upon a man who intrigues her as much as all those secrets.
In this fast pace novel you are faced with many characters whose problems and personalities are very much real.

This book is more than anything else an easy read. The fast pace of the plot is in my opinion one of the best aspects of this book. The characters are a bit two-dimensional, there is not a lot of depth to them. This isn't something that makes the book enjoyable however. I cannot say that I didn't have a good time reading this book since that would be a blatant lie! I liked the adventures of Nina Foster very much. I liked coming up with theories to who the killer was and most of all I enjoyed the fact that they were all in the end proven wrong.

There is however one thing that really bugged me in this book. The names. The names were mostly either made up or just really cringy (such as a bookstore clerk named Hamlet?!). This didn't "destroy" my reading experience, but I couldn't really take a person named Sondra Wagner seriously.

In conclusion, if you are looking an easy-to-read book to take with you to vacation or you simply enjoy books that don't demand a lot of energy while you read them, then this might just be the book for you. However, those aren't the types of books that I prefer.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review.

This cozy mystery is not the most original, but it has a good plot and excellent characters. The best, however, is the flow. No unnecessary filling, and everything on a timeline.

Clever and entertaining cozy mystery. Our lovely librarian has issues. She has friends and one wise and fun relative. She is capable and when in peril it was not because she is too stupid to live. A little romance. A lot of mystery with many suspects. A page turner.

This was a lovely murder mystery perfect for book lovers and crime aficionados alike. Nina finds herself wrapped up in a mystery involving her friends and feels compelled to solve it. Linda Hope Lee does a great job or weaving together the characters and the mystery elements.

A cozy mystery. Nina, a local librarian, finds her friend Wildeen murdered. Naturally she has the need to investigate. May just be me, but found many of the names distracting and slightly weird. Also, story was a little skimmable at times. Still though, if you want a quick and easy read this would be a good fit. Would recommend.

Librarian Nina Foster loves books and while at her friend Zelma’s book event, she overhears her other best friend, Wildeen, argue with Zelma. She thinks nothing of it at the time but the next day, Nina discovers Wildeen dead in her office. Could Zelma have killed Wildeen? Zelma’s the number one suspect and pleads with Nina to help figure out who murdered Wildeen.

In an effort to help her friend, Nina dons her amateur detective cap and starts investigating. She teams up with newspaper reporter Stephen. The more they investigate, the more suspects appear. As they work together, she develops feelings for Stephen which she tries to deny. A romance blooms but when it goes too far, Nina breaks it off. The closer she gets to the truth, the more danger she’s in. Can she solve the case before the murderer strikes again?

I love mysteries starring amateur detectives and this one takes on a very bookish setting. The backstabbing and jealousy between three friends in the book world is spot-on. While it’s a slow beginning, once the investigating begins, it moves at a quick pace. There’s a lot of characters to keep track of but I caught on. Lots of twists and turns plus the reveal of the murderer was unexpected. One downside for me is the formal dialogue. It seemed forced in some areas and not quite real. The setting of the Pacific Northwest, however, was brilliantly done. I felt transported back to my days when I was a bookseller.

If you’re looking for a cozy mystery set in the Pacific Northwest, pick this up today. I look forward to reading the next Nina adventure.

Murder Between the Pages is a new series starter by Linda Hope Lee. Released 19th Dec 2018 by Wild Rose Press, it's 190 pages and available in paperback and ebook formats.

This one should've checked all the boxes for me. I love cozies, bonus points for librarians and book-centric plots. I love the Pacific northwest area. It was definitely readable and it's a short easy read which moves along at a pretty good clip, however....

The dialogue is often awkward and stilted. The names are intrusively weird and very old fashioned (Wildeen, Zelda, Morry, Arlette, Hamlet, etc). . The main character is a librarian and although she's in her mid-thirties comes across as very schoolmarm-ish. If the author hadn't specified, I'd have thought her much closer to senior citizen age than 30's.

For readers who enjoy squeaky clean cozies with nothing racier in the romance subplot than a handful of very chaste kisses, this could definitely fit the bill. There's nothing here which would scandalize a nun (apart from the murder of course).

The denouement felt somewhat tacked on, and the murderer's motivation lacked believability to me. It often takes a few books before new series hit their strides, so I will likely pick up the followup book before making a decision to continue or quit.

Three stars.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

This is a hugely enjoyable cosy mystery with everything we want from this genre: a gutsy, go-ahead amateur sleuth, a supportive and interesting network of friends, a clever plot, love interest and just the right ending!
The author has created a super cast of characters and devised an interesting background to this series. The story is well crafted and satisfying, and this looks like being an excellent series in the making.
