Wow this was so bad. What happened to author who has written Slater brothers??? This book..... I don't even know where to begin. The story had a potential but the delivery was really bad. Ryan and Ash did not have any chemistry and they felt like robots to me. There is a sex scene with Ash and another girl at the beginning of the book and I just hated it. I don't understand, and never will, why authors think that we readers like to read about one of the main characters having sex (in detail) with someone else before they meet their heroine.
I'm writing this review and I still can't believe how bad this book was. At the end everything was wrapped up so quickly and nicely that my head was spinning.
After saying all of the above I'll still read L. A. Casey because this is the first time I got disappointed.
This is my first time reading an L.A. Casey book and I’ll definitely be checking out more in the future. My Little Secret is the love story of a very bad boy, Ashley, and a good girl, Ryan (yes, you read that correctly - the quirky names were one of many things that helped keep this otherwise dark book lighthearted). I have to admit, I was not sold on the book at the beginning. All of the characters have heavy Irish accents which took a little getting used to, and Ash was most definitely a bad boy at the beginning of the book - I struggled with whether or not I’d be able to root for him to find love. But the writing style was great and the book progressed quickly. Ash soon won me over and I most definitely loved the core relationship (not to mention the secondary relationship in this book!)
If you’re looking for a fast-paced romance with a little mystery and some humor, look no further than My Little Secret.
Yet again, another epic read by this fabulous author! I don’t even have to read a blurb from this woman to know her books will be amazing, she is that awesome! I loved this book, from the storyline, to the characters—I couldn’t put it down! Highly recommend reading!
Got to be honest, I wasn’t feeling the first few chapters, and then, BAM, I fell head over heels in love with bad boy Ashley Dunne. Ash was not selling drugs and breaking legs because he wanted to, no, Ash was stuck in a life of crime because his younger self was trying to provide for his mum and brother. A victim of circumstance trapped in a life of crime, he was considerate and kind with a lethal edge. I loved his interactions with Ryan, who he was besotted with from the very first time he saw her. Two people from entirely different worlds, both knowing that a relationship was impossible. Wonderful writing (dual POV), a story that I truly didn’t want to end. It’s been a long time since I’ve wanted to go straight to the beginning of a book and read it again, I wanted to do it that with My Little Secret. I loved the characters, Ash, Ryan, and all the misfits in and amongst made for an emotional and passionate story, with a few twists. I received an advanced copy of this book from the publisher. This is my honest review.
Another fantastically written book by L.A Casey.
She has not written a bad book yet !
Every book i read by this amazing author grips me so much that i literally cannot put the book down.
She can write comedy between the characters like in "The Slater Series" but also Heartfelt Emotional scenes like in "Until Harry" and 'Her Lifeline"
You never know what you'll get in her books until you actually read them.
Ryan Mahony's life has been in a tailspin since her father was sentenced to serve time in prison. With her steadfast belief of his innocence, Ryan is still left with a void while he is away. She promises him that she will move to Dublin to live with her aunt and cousin, so she won't be left entirely alone. Leaving her insular childhood home to live in the big city where there are dangers around every corner is a far cry from her what she is used to, but she vows to make the best of her situation while she is there.
Ashley Dunne is a member of Dublin's most ruthless gang, where selling drugs and breaking bones is all in a days work. But, his unfortunate extra-curricular activities in no way define the kind of man that he is. After the death of their mother, Ash is the only parent his younger brother has, and he takes his role as parent very seriously.
Ryan and Ashley are opposites in every way, but when they meet, the sparks between them are something that neither of them can deny...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My Little Secret is a story of a sheltered girl who meets the bad boy with a heart of gold. Warned away from him from the very start, Ryan can't help but interact with Ash when he refuses to leave her alone. When their good-natured flirting leads them to something more, Ryan and Ash's journey to HEA is anything but easily won.
Ryan may have been brought up with the finer things in life, but her isolated existence has left her lacking in the socializing department. Moving to Dublin comes with it's own set of hurdles, but when she meets one of the people she was expressly told to stay away from, Ryan finds it impossible to avoid the enigmatic Ashley.
Ash's membership in the Disciples is not one the he celebrates. Making a mistake when he was a teenager has led to a life sentence of gang life. But, he makes due with what life has dealt him, and focuses on teaching his brother to be a good man, even when Ash himself has had to do some very bad things. He knows his infatuation with Ryan is something that could never go anywhere... she is a nice girl with a life that would only be ruined by associating with a man like him. But, his ability to stay away from her is quickly losing out to his need to spend every waking moment getting to know everything about her.
L.A. Casey's voice continues to be a delight of local dialect and life in Dublin, which combined with her entertaining writing and unique storylines, delivers with another great book. With some fantastic story elements and an entire cast of solid and interesting characters, this story was an enjoyable and fascinating read.
I received a complimentary copy of this book for my honest and unbiased review.
"Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for the advance copy of this book, in exchange for an honest review."
Loved this book very much. It had just enough sweet, sexy romance and the storyline was great! I highly recommend!
ARC provided in exchange for an honest review. Thank you, NetGalley, LA Casey and Montlake Romance for the opportunity.
Ryan Mahony is a good girl. She lives a privileged and sheltered life in the countryside of Ireland until her father, a former barrister, is sent to prison. Ashley Dunn is a bad boy. He is a member of the Disciples, one of Dublin's most notorious gangs and has a ruthless reputation. When Ryan goes to live with her aunt and cousin in their urban estate, her path unexpectedly crosses with Ash and sparks fly. The more time she spends with Ash, the more Ryan begins to believe that maybe Ash isn't really a bad boy at all. He's just a guy in a bad situation.
LA Casey's classic tale of a good girl falling for a bad boy was delightful. I loved how the narrative was funny yet really emotional. Many of the characters had loss in their lives and as a reader, I was able to really feel for them no matter their situations. My Little Secret's plot was not all romance either, which is always a pleasant bonus. The story has a few mysteries and is a little suspenseful too. One of my favorite parts without spoiling the story was the reveal of Mr. Nobody. I did not see the identity coming and I must praise LA Casey for such a curve ball.
I had only one issue with the novel and that was getting used to reading the Irish dialect. As an American, I struggled a little with it. However, once you get out your comfort zone, it will be smooth sailing. I promise.
I recommend this book.
4 1/2 stars
Okay, so My Little Secret went from oh no, I don't think I”m going to like this story to oh my god I really like this story. I love when that happens. This story is about Ryan (a girl, with a boys name) is shoved out of her life of privilege into a life of living a part of Ireland that is very low income as she moves in with her aunt and cousin. At first I thought this book was going to be heavy book but at around chapter 4 it turned around for me and I ended up like both Ryan and Ashley (the guy in the book) a lot. This was actually a pretty light book with a bit of suspense thrown in. I loved that we got both pov's and the epilogue at the end was lovely.
I was excited about Ash and Ryan's chemistry and the good girl and bad boy vibe on the story. While I liked the story and the heartfelt chemistry, I did find Ryan to be naive at times and a little unbelievable. All in all, this was a nice read if not my favorite from this author.
My Little Secret is actually a huge life changing secret but you will never know if you don't read it. This sweet romance is between a naive young woman and a worldly troubled man. It's a case of opposites attracting. Set in Ireland, My Little Secret has the dreamy accents and lingo to back it up. ( Please excuse the puddle of drool, I can't help it.)
You will be happy to know, all your questions will be answer by the time you finish. Enjoy the journey, love the lingo, and find some friends worth having around. It'll be our secret!
What can I say about this book, Well Lee has done another great job of giving us a great story, I really loved Ashley and Ryan's story and the name switch so cleaver loved it. Overall I couldn't put this down and really loved it and it's a must read book.
Thanks to the publisher for an ARC to read and give my honest opinion.
Ryan is a shy girl who has been homeschooled. She goes to live with her aunt and cousin when her Dad is jailed for a crime, she believes he did not commit. While at her Aunt's, she meets Ash. Ash is a gang member of the disciples, lost in a gang world because of circumstances. There they fall for each other and look for their HEA.
What did I like? This was a cheeky read, and I laughed and smiled through it. Instead of Ash coming across as a bad ass, you could tell he was just a victim of circumstance and that he didn't really want the gang life. Ryan was just the opposite of endearing. Her character was just typically irritating because of her young age and childishness probably brought forth from the isolation she got in her child hood. It was a cute story but I wasn't engrossed as usual.
Would I buy this book? That is one hot cover and an eye catcher but sadly I would not buy a copy. If I hadn't read it, I probably would just for that insanely hot cover. I didn't care for the story much, even though it was cheeky.
Thoughts for the author? I've always like this author but lets be honest I'm probably not going to like every book. I thought it was an okay read but the chemistry and characters left something to be desired on this one. I hope the next one is more my style. Three Stars.
Not as emotional has her other books, but still quite good. Ash and Ryan are sweet couple. They lived both had a lot of hardships to deal with growing up. They found each other.
Loved this book, all the characters were likeable. I have lots of family in Dublin so could visualise the areas and read it in Irish accent 😁. At first we could think Ryan was naieve and didn't have a clue about the real world but she was feisty and funny and loved her family.
I enjoyed the way we can presume things about people because of where they live and how they live but Ash and Ryan's story shows we need to not be judgemental.
I loved the ending and smiled a lot a lovely feel good book
Ryan Mahony is all alone. Her mother is dead and her father is in prison. She is sent to live with her aunt and cousin in a part of Dublin, Ireland that it controlled by a notorious gang, the Disciples. Her cousin and aunt warn her about the area they live in. They also tell her to stay away from the gang member on their street, Ashley Dunne. Ashley has always his pick of women, but when he meets the sweet, naive Ryan, he has to have her. Ryan thinks the best of Ashley. She believes that he is a good person who has to do certain things to survive. She is drawn into Ash's web and allows her trusting nature to overcome her fear. This book had an interesting plot and well-developed characters. Ashley was so endearing and multi-layered that I felt the pain of their desire to have a "normal"life together that both knew was nearly impossible.
This book will be available March 26, 2019. An egalley of this book was made available from the publisher in exchange for a honest review.
I was bored, and didn't care for any of the characters. Ashley sounded like a good guy but there was no way out of the gang and I didn't like that.
While the concept of this story was clear; “good girl falls on hard times and meets boy from the wrong side of town”, I felt the main characters lacked chemistry. It was obvious that Ashley had fallen into the wrong crowd; he also projected a lack of respect for women in the early part of the book (as per the first sex scene). Ryan was understandably rudderless after her father’s fall from grace, but her reasons for seeking a relationship with this “bad boy” were shallow. This was my first read by L.A. Casey and while it wasn’t a great story, it did have some redeeming factors. As I have read many positive reviews for this author’s other series, I will probably read something else before I pass final judgement.
I don't even know where to start.
Ash?
Ryan?
The storyline?
So hard to choose from! *sigh*
We'll go with Storyline, this was amazing.
The characters to the side characters to the events that happen in this book. Amazing.
It's more of a slow burn to what I’m use to but i didn't even realise the time was flying past, the banter between Ash and Ryan or Anto and Ash, Eddi and Ryan.. there was so much banter it was great! They knew how to have a laugh, they all had that witty sarcasm about them too.
The whole falling for the bad boy is one of my favourite tropes so i was sooo excited for this one!
Ryan, she was funny and sarcastic, she had a goodish life, well she made it what it could be considering the circumstances. She held her head up strong when there was times she wanted to be anything but. She was a fighter and believed in who she loves.
Ash! Gah i loved him.
He had to grow up very quickly to look after his little brother, to give him the best life he could considering what he does but he was always willing to put someone else first even if it meant he didn't get the girl but luckily enough he decided to screw what others thought and met Ryan.
This story was amazing and I’m so happy and grateful that i got the chance to read ot early.
You guys won't want to miss this one!
❤
This is my second novel by L.A. and she’s quickly became one of my favorite authors.
Ryan is a girl who’s lived the life of privilege and she only has her father who is but in prison for a crime then she’s sent to live with her aunt and cousin. This is where things turn. She’s entered into a world that she has no place being but would never turn back from.
She meets our hero Ash, in the gang riddled town where she’s sent to live. Ash is a member of The Disciples. He isn’t exactly what you think he is. He’s a different kind of hero. A victim of his surrounding or maybe circumstances.
Their love story isn’t too angsty or too steamy but it’s cute, sweet and once in a while I like reading romances like this. Don’t expect a dark romance. That isn’t this book. While it’s not exactly white, it’s definitely not black.
Thank you to the publisher, Netgalley and the author for this ARC in exchange for a honest review.
P
This is an amazing book. Again the blurb does not do the story justice. Love the good girl bad boy dynamic. Leads to very interesting conflicts and character clashing that has you wanting to turn the page. I did feel the story was a little slow to start which is why only 4 stars
I had a hard time connecting to this story. Ryan and Ash just weren't grabbing my attention enough, I felt like I skimmed a majority of the book. I did like the epilogue, I'm a sucker for a HEA though.
L.A. Casey is a talented writer, I have read and enjoyed many of her books, but the past few releases have been hit or miss with me. I think I've just outgrown L.A. Casey as a reader,
My Little Secret isn't a "bad" book, it just wasn't for me,
I couldn't get into My Little Secret very well. I like the whole "good girl, bad boy" vibe, but it didn't really engage me.
Ryan (our good girl) was naive and boring, honestly. And Ashley (our bad boy) was the typical tortured bad boy who wants to be good. Throw in the Irish dialect/vernacular and you have a book that is hard for me to read.
Overall, was a relatively light and sweet story. The ending seemed rushed, and everything fell into place a little too easily for me.
I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book (given by Netgalley)...
I absolutely enjoyed this book, reminded me of the Slater brothers but a little darker ;)
Ok the book did move quickly, but that didn’t bother me in the least. I loved all the characters in this book, but my favorite was Anton, when you read this book you will understand why. The book focuses on Ashley (guy) and Ryan (girl) and they had quite a story, so much mystery, secrets and gang activity. There was never a dull moment in this book and especially loved the bond between Ash, Dean and Anton.
The only thing I wish we had more of was Anton and Eddi, I would love a novella just on them because that man was character. I would have loved to have seen their story unfold especially since Eddi doesn’t let him get away with anything. I would have also have liked to have seen how it went down between Eddi and Anton’s second cousin.
This book pulled me in from the start: it’s an exciting story about family, young love, deception, and what people are willing to do for those they love. It began strong, then seemed to weaken a bit towards the middle, getting repetitive and the characters seemed to not match how they were in the first part of the book, then the end felt rushed and lacked the draw that the beginning of the book held. There are sex scenes, so if you’re not into that, this may not be the book for you. I probably wouldn’t read this book again, but I’d read more from the author.
Ash and Ryan are the couple most likely to not work out....yet they do. They are from very different backgrounds. She has been warned to stay away from him as he is active within a local gang. But Ryan sees past the exterior and really sees Ash for who he is - - the good hearted man who got caught up with gang activity as a teenager and now has no choice. His primary concern now is to raise his younger brother to be able to have a better life than he does. Ryan has her own secrets. Like the one where her father is in prison.
In addition to the romantic interests, there are quite a few other twists in My Little Secret that keep you guessing. I really enjoyed the book. This is my second read by L.A. Casey and I look forward to continuing to work my way through her list of books. There were a few things in this one that felt a little rushed here and there but overall it did not significantly affect my experience. In addition, I connected with the characters which is a must for me to truly enjoy a story. Initially, I was drawn to this book because Ash had a "bad boy" vibe (which is kind of my jam) but it definitely delivered in more ways than I expected.
My thanks to NetGalley who provided this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
4.5 stars!
I've only read two of this author's other books, but I liked the other books that I've read from her! I'm not sure why I haven't continued with her books and read all of them lol! Anyway, I saw this book on Netgalley and I was able to read it without requesting it, so I decided to give it a read after I had finished a series! This book also sounded like something I would definitely pick up! After reading this book, I can say that I enjoyed it! I found the characters interesting and the plot developed at a nice pace to keep me intrigued and wanting to find out what was going to happen next! It only took me a few sittings to read as well! I also liked that the romance was slow to develop and that it wasn't instant love! It actually took the romance longer than I was expecting to develop, but I loved that the author did this! There was a bit of suspense in the plot too and it added a lot to the plot! The characters were also amazing and made this book even better! Ryan was the main female character, and in this book she was by herself and her life had changed! She had went from being in a big house and having money to being on a bit of a rough estate and wanting to get her own money! Ryan did try in this book to adjust to her new surroundings and I think she actually did a pretty good job at it! She got herself a job and wanted to provide for herself! This made me respect her! I liked that Ryan stood up for herself too! Ashley 'Ash' was the main male character and love interest of Ryan! Ash did some and was involved in some very dangerous stuff in this book, but he was trying his best to provide for his younger brother and raise him to be as good a guy as possible! This made me respect Ash because he really did try! He also had a soft side to him as well, even though he was part of a gang! I loved the way that Ash was with Ryan too! It was easy to see his feelings for her develop and he was different with her! I loved that this book was written from both Ryan and Ash's point of views! I was hoping that it was going to be before I started reading, but I wasn't sure after I read the synopsis! I'm really happy that it was written from both characters point of views because it helped me connect and understand both characters more and it allowed for more things to happen, especially as the characters were going through their own situations and took the first 25% of the book to actually meet lol! I can also completely understand why this book is a standalone! Everything was wrapped up in the plot and all the questions raised were answered! I will miss all the characters, but the ending was left at the perfect place and summed up Ryan and Ash's story perfectly! I now can't wait to find out what this author is going to release next and I'm definitely going to be reading the books of hers that I haven't already read! The cover for this book is also seriously hot and is perfect for the book! It really suits the vibe of it and would draw me to the book! The cover model also looks pretty hot from what I can see of him lol, which suits the character of Ash! Big thank you to L.A. Casey, Montlake Romance, and Netgalley for an ARC of My Little Secret!
3.5 stars .I enjoyed this book but for me there was something missing. I quite liked the brooding character of Ash and the feisty character of Ryan but together I did not feel the chemistry between them. I would have liked to have known more about the gang and have more happen involving the gang. They had a reputation but there was nothing that happened in the book to deserve it. I think this would have made the book more exciting I felt like the reveal of Mr Nobody was a bit of nothing.. So much more could have been made of it.
I hate to give a low rating of a book, but I have to say that I just couldn't finish this one. There was just something about it that I couldn't connect with and as others have said, I had a problem with one of the first scenes in the book between the main male character and another character who is not the heroine of the book. Just my preference and I just couldn't get beyond that. I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC for NetGalley.
It pains me to write this but I don’t know where it went wrong 😩
I love this author’s books so much and saying I was excited for this book would be an understatement.
I had such high expectation for My Little Secret but it just didn’t quench my fix for an L.A. Casey book.
I was mentally having a fan-girl moment when I started this book. I was honestly expecting to be swept off my feet with Ash and Ryan’s story just like how the Slater Brothers or any of her books ruined me in the best possible way.
As dramatic as it sounds, I had a hard time convincing myself to continue on reading because I lost interest halfway into the book. I persevered but the end result was a dud for me
Here’s the thing though,My Little Secret wasn’t all that bad (this is me, a die hard L.A. Casey fan, trying to ‘salvage’ and convince myself that it wasn’t all that bad). Ash and Ryan’s chemistry was very intriguing …at the beginning. I swear, it really was. I think that was one of the few things that made me giddy with excitement. But alas! That didn’t last. Where’s the fiery chemistry? Where’s the witty sarcastic banter? NOTHING! 😤
This book infuriates me to end because I can’t believe that this is the same author who wrote so many of my favourite books.
Apologies but I am going to pretend that I didn’t read this book because it actually hurts me that this book was such a disappointment.
Moving On!
Like all of LA Casey books, this was no exception it was good. I liked how flawed he is and the fact that in her very sheltered life her heart is given so easily. This does get slow and the ending was really quick.
The story develops slowly but hang in there because it gets sweet and interesting. It has a mystery that Ash needs to solve to make sure the people he cares about are safe. And in the process you will notice one main topic in this book, appearances can be deceiving. Every character here is surprisingly different than what they portray. They have real feelings, worries and responsibilities. They are in the middle of the worst situation they could have but they work hard to change that. And it is admirable. Something I loved about the story is that Ash is a protector and a family man. I love that Ryan is understanding. That she gives opportunities for others to show their true selves. Using communication as a key. And more than anything, she teaches others to better themselves by giving chances. An open mind and heart works wonders for their happiness. It's a story that starts sad but develops into something beautiful full of opportunities.
Ryan Mahon has always led the perfect life she is a child of a wealthy father and as always had privileged but when daddy is charged and sent to prison her life crumbles She has to go live with her Aunt and her family and that is in a town controlled by Irish gangsters. Ashley Dunne is an enforcer for the local Irish mob and he has done many ad things and he is locked into a world he cannot leave When he meets Ryan he sees another kind of world. Ryan is warned to stay away but the two of them are like moths to a flame they just keep drawing one another in.
On the whole this is a book that you can neither like or dislike it is just a oh hum read I didn't hate it but I didn't love it either It dragged a little in the middle
I am upset or more like sad because I have so many books to read and catch up on and unfortunately for me I picked this one and have to say that it was not what I expected..I disliked the main characters and couldn't get into the story mainly because I could not get the feeling that these two had much interest in each other. I love opposites attract and that was the only thing that I could agree on, I also could not understand why we got a descriptive sex scene with one of the main characters that was not with the other main characters, yeah that should have told me that I should have stopped from there, lesson learned..
*3.5 stars* This was an enjoyable book. Very well written with lots of Irish sass. Ash and Ryan are the ultimate bad boy/ good girl couple. He grew up on the streets of Dublin and now he's leading a division of rough Irish gang. She is the only child of an overprotective barrister and has led a very protected life. When Ryan's father is sent to jail Ryan is forced to go live with her aunt and cousin in a very rough part of Dublin. Although they warn her to keep her head down and work hard Ryan can't resist the pull of Ash. This is the part of the story I couldn't quite feel. I would have liked a little more chemistry between these two but it just wasn't there for me. Overall though it's not a bad read and one I would still recommend.
"My Little Secret" by L.A. Casey .
My first time reading that author.
I liked it but didn't love it.
I did love the cover though!
I generally love a good girl falling for a bad boy story even though I've read that many times. I just couldn't connect with the characters. I didn't feel there was chemistry between them.
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for letting me read this ARC. This is my honest review. All opinions are my own.
Thanks to Netgalley for allowing me to read this arc early.
I’ve read other books by this author, so I knew what to expect with this story. Unfortunately, the book fell a little short for me. It took a few chapters to “get into” this book. The storyline consists of two people from different paths in life. You know the idea, the woman was told to stay away from men like him. But predictably, he wasn’t as bad as they said. It’s a fairly predictable storyline. Bad boy, good girl fall in love. I’ll leave it up to you ok whether it’s your thing.
Bad boys and good girls?
In yet another well written book by L.A. Casey we get the good girl and the bad boy.
Authors Blurb: Ashley Dunne is a bad boy, a notorious member of Dublin’s most ruthless gang. But when privileged daddy’s girl Ryan Mahony finds herself living on an urban estate they control, she can’t help feeling he’s not that bad at all…
Ryan and Ash were never meant to cross paths: she’s always been sheltered by her successful barrister father. But when he’s unexpectedly sent to prison, she’s forced to move in with estranged relatives in the city, where a chance encounter with Ash sends sparks flying. He’s the one man she’s been warned to avoid, but fate seems determined to bring them together…
While her head warns of danger, her heart tells her to be reckless for the first time in her life. She knows there’s more to Ash than his gangland reputation. But when he starts to rethink his future and attracts the wrong kind of attention, Ryan has to ask herself: is her life going off the rails—or has she finally found the right track?
This book has everything I love in a book. Then you add that it's beautifully written and believable. It is easily a five star read. Written in dual POV my personal favorite this story flows so incredibly well that the next thing you know your 80% into the book and loving every second of it. The believable way the characters interact is perfect. Run, Hop, Jump or use your (1 click) finger to do whatever you have to do and get this amazing book. It'll break your heart, you'll want to scream with frustration and it'll let you discover that love just might conquer all. The chemistry is steamy and sweet and oh so romantic.
Thanks Netgally for letting me read and review.📚💕
My Little Secret is a stand alone read. I was really looking forward to this book, however, it fell a little short for me. Oveall, i thought the storyline had a lot of potential. I liked the idea behind the story and it had romatic elements and a nice suspenseful twist but the execution just didn’t quite hit the mark. The ending all wrapped up a little too quickly and neatly and I felt that the romantic connection between the H/h could have had a bit more deph. This was just an ok read for me.
This book was absolutely fantastic. The storyline was very enjoyable and kept my interest throughout. I kept thinking 'Just one more page'. I enjoyed reading about the characters and the story flowed well. Plenty of love and laughs with drama thrown in for good measure. Absolutely amazing.
I love LA Casey and get super excited when I see she has a new book out and she didn't disappoint with this one.
Soon as you start this book you are instantly intrigued and left wondering how this story will play out.
Ryan has had her sheltered life turned upside down since her Father was sent to prison. She now has to move to Dublin to live with her Aunt and Cousin, who she barely knows.
Ash Dunne is part of the Disciples, the bad boy your parents warn you to stay away from. He wants to change his life but is stuck in the gang. Raising his younger brother, there is no way he wants his brother to lead the life he is.
Soon as Ryan and Ash meet the chemistry between them is electric. She has no clue who he is and is quite feisty which amuses Ash. She sparks something in him and even though she keeps turning him down for dates he doesn't give up.
What I liked is that not only is this a romance story, there is also an underlying suspense line. Someone is after Ash but no-one has a clue who it could be or who will get caught in the crossfire.
Another great read from this author.
This one is one of those books that started off intriguing and was going strong for a minute, but then kinda fizzled out for me towards the end, which was a shame because I found both Ryan and Ashley quite interesting characters in the beginning. I mulled over what changed for me and I came to the conclusion that the spark that I felt between Ash and Ryan kind of disappeared in the latter half of the book and so my interest waned.
While the end result wasn’t what I’d hoped for going in, I did enjoy watching as Ryan and Ash evolved and became stronger than they, and those around them, ever thought they could be and found their HEA with each other.
My Little Secret by L.A. Casey is the story of Ashley 'Ash ' Dunne and Ryan Mahony.
Ash at a early age ended up in a gang and is still there. Ash is trying to build a better future for his little brother knowing it probably to let for him. Ryan's father is in jail which has made her move where she meets Ash. Although she been warn away from him..she see something more to him then others do. Enjoyed their story!
I can honestly say that this was the first LA. Casey book I didn't finish. I didn't care for Ryan I felt she was unbelievable at times and to be honest I just didn't care what happened.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher, I am voluntarily providing my honest review.
This is probably my favorite book by this author that I have read. I loved the ya the story flowed and kept me turning the pages all night long!!
My relationship with L.A Casey series has always been a love-hate relationship. I was excited to pick up this book due to the fact I ended always been a sucker for good girl and bad boy romances. Before even making it to chapter three, the characters have become more than a turn off, there wasn't anything drawing me to the story and how the dialogue was written was driving me instead. Sadly enough, this just wasn't a keeper.
My Little Secret by L.A. Casey is the story of Ashley 'Ash ' Dunne and Ryan Mahony.
I was very curious about this book. I've read some other books from the author and I liked it, so I decided to give this one a try. And I'm glad that I did it.
Sassy Ryan has her life turned upside down after something bad happens with her father. She moves to another city to live with her loving aunt and crazy cousin (who's actually a good girl), but she's not ready for her new reality.
Right at first she's informed by her family about the people she shouldn't get involved with.
Well, guess who falls for the wrong guy?
The problem is that Ash isn't what
everyone thinks of him. Unfortunately, he made some bad choices when he was too young to know better, and now he's stuck in a situation that is dangerous. For himself, his family, his friends, and Ryan.
I love a good book about a bad boy falling for the good girl. I really liked to see how they dealt with everything that happened, even if it felt a little rushed by the end of the book.
3.5 to 4 stars
This story started out kinda slow and I was wondering if it was going to get any better. But then it began to turn around and ended up being a really good story.
Ryan's life has fallen around her, since her father was sent to prison last year but she is going to live with her aunt and cousin that she hasn't seen in years. So basically, she is moving in with strangers. She has to adapt and move forward until she can figure out how to help her dad.
Ash Dunne is the bad boy that Ryan is warned to stay away from. He is part of a gang the runs drugs and just about anything else bad going on in town. He would like to change his life to help his brother with a brighter future instead of him ending up in the gang.
When Ryan meets Ash, she doesn't realize who he is and proceeds to chew him out. While Ash thinks it's funny and wants to get to know her better, Ryan is horrified when she finds out who he is, but she can't stay away from him. They seem drawn together and only see the good in each other. While Ryan is innocent, Ash has done some bad things.
Can Ryan forgive the things Ash has done to be with him? Will Ash let her go instead of ruining her life? Will they survive life together? Will they prove her dad is innocent? And who is after someone Ash loves?
I really liked this story, it just started slow but after a few chapters it picked up and moved along well. I have read L.A. Casey and her other series are great too. Looking forward to more from her in the future.
Due to circumstances beyond her control, Ryan is sent to live with her aunt and cousin.
Her cousin Eddi warns her to keep away from known criminals that operated in the area: Ash and Anto. But unfortunately love has different ideas.
Can their different up bringing and lifestyles hamper their future?
"Whatever ye've heard about me, I'm sure I'm far worse..."
Well, another one book by Mrs. Casey's pen came to an end...
Honestly, it wasn't as bad as the most reviews are saying... I did enjoy and this story... But i think that it was lacking something... more!!! And the action had taken a while to be unfolded!!!
The first 40% of the book could be characterized as a little boring because of the too much inner talking of the characters, but the author was trying to connect the dots in a way...
Yep, this story wasn't the best, even though it had the potentials to be, but still i liked it!!!
"We're Disciples, no one fucks with us."
Ryan's life changed the past year dramatically... Her only friend and parental figure is behind bars and all her world is crumbling down... Now, she is forced in a way to leave the countryside and her childhood home and to go in Dublin to live with some distant relatives!!!! An aunt and a cousin with whom is in odds!!!
Even though this transition is really hard for her, she is really trying to adjust in this new life...
And then, Ashley Dunne is coming into her life... A man that she was warned off him!!!
"I still had to get to know him, but I believed that he was a good man. My heart believed he was."
Ashley is a boy for the start... Bahaha... As Ryan is a girl... Okay???
Well, Ash is a bad boy and a gang member... He has a very bad reputation, but the truth is that i didn't see the evil inside of him... Ash seemed very good to me... But he had got himself in trouble in a very early age...
At the present, he was raising alone his brother, he was working his ass off and the only other person who meant something for him except his brother, was his best friend Anto!!!
Oh, and lately someone was after him...
"I had to keep him in line; I couldn't let him turn out like me. I just couldn't."
Well, when Ashley and Ryan met each other, everything changed in their lives...
Ash was pushing and at first, Ryan was pulling away... But then, things went down differently...
They became each other's strength, but the problems around them were too many and they were chasing them down...
Will they manage to be together at the end, when they are opposites in every way???
"Leave me alone."
"No."
"Why not?"
"I have no fuckin' clue, nightmare."
Well, as i told you above, i think that the book was lacking in some aspects... I won't get into details, but something was missing... Some kind of spark, even though the potentials were all around the story...
Ryan was a lovely girl, a little bit too protected and she was hurt by the situation that her father was in...
Ashley didn't seem like the bad guy that everyone were saying that he was... I liked him very much from the beginning!!!
Those two together were... good!!! In the beginning, i liked them very much, but then something was missing, i think!!!
"He was who he was, and I was who I was. I came from a law-abiding family... Could I just ignore that and see what could happen with Ash? Was that even possible? Did I want it to be?" {Ryan}
"You're too good to get involved with me, babe. You're fuckin' perfect." {Ashley}
Oh!!! And of course, i liked very much mouthy Eddi and hillarious and crazy Ando... They were so perfect in their way!!! Bahahaha...
And for the end, that said little secret had nothing to do with the couple, as i used to think in the beginning... It was something entirely different...
"For as long as I lived, it would always be my little secret..."
Unfortunately, I was not able to complete this book. I could not get into the plot and the characters did not interest me. I hope to try something else from L.A. Casey in the near future. I feel like this will be a book that is either hit or miss for people. I encourage everyone to read a few reviews before making your decision on whether or not this book will be for you.
Unfortunately, NetGalley is going to require me to give a star rating. Please do not pay attention to this as I do not feel it is fair for me to give a star rating when I DNF'd the work.
So did I enjoyed reading this book yes it was funny and with ok characters. It just that I had a feeling the book is more for a younger audience. The whole story about the gang and everything it was not solid or too much believable. But Ash and Ry had a cute little relationship, there are funny things in the book and there are some steamy scenes. The story starts as a big tragedy but in the ends, everything ends so perfectly and too sweet.
I volunteered to review an ARC of this book for Netgelly
I didn't think that I would love this book as much as I ended up loving it. It was a lot of fun, and I appreciated the relationship between all the characters, it was really well done and realistic. The chemistry between Ryan and Ash was fantastic, they had time to develop a relationship and grow.
The first 70-off percent was brilliant, but I had some issues with how the ending wrapped up, it was a little too convenient for me. I personally would've liked a different ending and that disappointed me.
Beautiful characters that were perfect and interesting to read about
I liked the ending it’s was amazing
This was different from the usual LA Casey style. It's not that I didn't enjoy it, I did, but it didn't have that 'feeling' I get from reading her other books. Or it could be that I'm still waiting for her next Alien book :P
My Little Secret was an okay read. I usually love this author’s work but there was just something missing this time.
I was very excited about reading this book based on the blurb, but unfortunately I could not get into the story. I think this is one of those book you either love or just don't want to finish. I fall in the latter. Thank you for the ARC, all opinions are my own.
This is the first book by this author that I've read and it definitely won't be the last. This is a sweet sexy romance story. The characters were really well written and the story line was fantastic. This story will keep you reading long into the night. This story has you looking for answers all the way through but by the end they all will be answered. I can't wait to read more from this author in the future.
Highly recommended
I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book
I received an ARC from Netgalley for this wonderful book. I cant say enough good things about this book. I giggled, I blushed, I LOL"d. This was a perfect mix or romance, comedy and a good story line. I did have to adjust to reading in an accent but I got over that right away and couldnt put it down. Its a must read. Any story where the bad boy finds love with the good girl is thumbs up to me
I’m a huge fan of LA Casey’s Slater Brothers series, and Until Harry made me cry a bucket load, I was quite eager to read My Little Secret. Full of action, drama, secrets, romance and suspense I was intrigued by these characters and their story.
I thoroughly enjoyed Ash and Ryan’s story. Ash is a bad boy, but a survivor. He was recruited to a Dublin gang as a teen, determined to provide for his younger brother and desperate to give him a better life, he sees no other option or escape.
Ryan’s father is in prison, and her life has done a drastic one eighty. She was raised in the lap of luxury, home schooled in a small country town. With her fathers incarceration she moves in with her aunt and cousin in a rougher part of Dublin.
This pair are inexplicably drawn to each other, despite their different backgrounds. I enjoyed their witty, fun and flirtatious banter and the honesty they have with each other.
Although the ending was a tad rushed, the twists and turns were surprising and kept me completely captivated. I highly recommend this title if you enjoy a slow burn romance, and I will be eager for more of LA Casey’s work in the future.
I’m a huge fan of LA Casey and love all her words and this story was no different. I have to admit that I did find the beginning slow to start and almost, almost put it down but I’m so happy I didn’t. I actually ended up really enjoying this read and would recommend. Thank you.
L.A. Casey is a hit or miss author for me. I have really loved several of her books, but this one felt like it was trying too hard. The story was told, but I did not feel any chemistry between the characters. Sadly, I only made it half way through the book and then lost interest.
3.5 stars. My Little Secret is the story of bad boy Ash and good girl Ryan. Ash isn’t all that bad, he’s just a victim of crappy circumstances and doing the best with what he has been given. Ryan has grown up sheltered and privileged. Her life is turned upside down after her father is sent to prison.
The flow of the book was a bit off to me. It was a little slow in the middle, but yet the chemistry felt rushed. There is an air of mystery through the whole book that surprised me when it was resolved. The ending was action packed and enjoyed that everything came full circle.
This was my first read by this author. It was a good read that I recieved thru Netgalley. There were times that the suspense had me on my toes. I did wish it had more romance or drama. This one I will consider a YA read eventhough talk about drugs and gang life. The author didn't describe it explicitly. I love how the author ended the book was a beautiful happy ending.
My first foray in reading Casey. I've been debating... 3.5 stars? 4 stars? 3.5 stars? 4 stars?
I can't even rightly explain why I liked this book that much. The story is fairly routine. Ryan has to enter the "real world" after her father goes to prison. It's a pretty big switch from being home schooled and sheltered to essentially living in the projects. Ashley is the area's bad boy criminal. Naturally they are attracted to each other.
Ryan shows good character development in mending the rift with her extended family, growing into her personality while her relationship with Ash develops. I suppose I liked the book largely due to Ash's character. He fully accepts the reality of his life of crime as something not to be escaped and manages to hold on to his humanity as evidenced in his relationships with his brother, Anto and Ryan.
The HEA is a tad hokey but something I can live with. Will definitely be checking out more books by Casey.
My Little Secret by L. A. Casey was an enjoyable read and I soon became engrossed in the story.
This is a lovely romance set in Dublin that follows the challenging relationship of Ryan Mahony and Ashley Dunne, a bad boy and a notorious member of Dublin’s most ruthless gang.
Privileged daddy's girl Ryan meets the love of her life and they fall for each other in a big way, though their paths were never meant to cross. Ryan had lived her life in the Dublin countryside until her father, a former barrister, was sent to prison. Ashley is a bad boy with a ruthless reputation and a member of the Disciples, one of Dublin's most notorious gangs. Ryan is forced to move in with estranged relatives on an urban estate, where a chance encounter with Ash sends sparks flying. He’s the one she’s been warned to avoid, but fate seems determined to push them together. As she spends more and more time with Ash, she comes to believe that maybe he isn't really a bad boy at all; he's a good guy in a bad situation. The pair were drawn to each other, despite their different backgrounds and I guess it was a typical case of opposites attracting.
L.A. Casey's classic tale of a good girl falling for the bad guy was adorable. The narrative was great; so funny, witty and flirtatious, yet really emotional. Some of the characters, very well drawn by Casey, were dealing with loss and I was able to really identify with them. My Little Secret was certainly not all sweet romance as the plot included elements of suspense and mystery as well.
Overall, this is a book that I'm pleased to have read.
I received a complimentary copy of this novel from Montlake Romance via NetGalley at my own request. This review is my own unbiased opinion.
Ryan is daddy’s princess ... until he goes to jail and she has to go live with her aunt in a rough part of Dublin. Ash’s father died when he was young, forcing Ash to join a gang to protect his mom and younger brother. Ryan knows that Ash is trouble and she should stay away from him ... but she can’t.
The premise of this book is good ... and I hate to say this ... but it wasn’t exciting. I found it distracting to read with the dialect ... but I know that the author was keeping it true to the Irish slang.
I received a copy courtesy of Montlake Romance through NetGalley in exchange for a honest review.
When I first started reading this book I thought the names would throw me too much since Ryan is a girl and Ashley is the guy but once I started I couldnt stop. It was my first LA Casey book and not my last. Loved it!
What a fascinating book. I was impressed by the storyline and the characters were all well written and complex. Where there are complex storylines combined with intriguing characters the reader experience is magnified tremendously. To have a book that is well written as well as entertaining is a delight. Reading is about escaping your world and entering another one. The word building was phenomenal in this book. Here I forgot about my own life and was immersed in the world created by the author. I would recommend this book.
What I liked: I went into this book blind, so the Ireland setting and the plot of the book was a nice surprised. From the cover I thought it was going to maybe be a brothers best friend romcom. But it was actually about an Irish gang. Loved that that the mmc was named Ashley and the fmc was named Ryan.
What I didn’t like: The story didn’t have much substance. I was at the end of the book and was thinking “that’s it?”. I really thought it was going to end on a cliffhanger bc of how empty the story felt. The relationship was slow burned and maybe that’s why it felt like nothing much was happening.
