Very enjoyable story of love lost and found again after overcoming problems along the way. Definitely a holiday read with the feel good factor when things turn a corner.
Holly fled Greenacres a year ago after her breakup with the love of her life Rich, not knowing that she was pregnant with his son. Now she is back following the death of her grandfather, how will she face Rich and how will he react to a son that he did not know he had?
Another lovely warm book by this author, she is one of my favourites, and although predictable it leaves you with a lovely warm feeling and as the start of a series I am really looking forward to the next one
I just love the way Darcie writes. She hold my interest, makes me happy, sad and happy again and really invest in her characters.
This story didn't disappoint. Once more she's got a winner.
Well let’s just say I devoured this gorgeous story within a week which for me is quick reading and I so wish I could have sat and read it in one sitting! I found the narrative of this story to be so easy to follow and I for one love that as then I can concentrate on enjoying the story itself. This is actually my first read of Darcie’s and I feel so bad for this as I wish I had read her books before now! I do have a few already on my kindle.
Let’s get onto the story.....we meet Holly who returns to Greenacres after a messy break up however she returns for a good reason. Even from these first few chapters I found myself having to hold back the tears as these events brought up some personal memories, which I’m sure rings true for a lot of readers of this book. We also meet Holly’s lovely granny and her father as well as her friends. Holly is my favourite character because of her determination to overcome various challenges in her life, I won’t go into these challenges as I would like for you to read the book too! I didn’t dislike any of the characters in this story.
I am now a huge fan of Darcie’s writing because of this book and I’m thrilled to see that ‘The House at Greenacres’ is the first in a series so this won’t be the last we hear about Holly and the gang. I felt like I was at Penhallow Sands myself and would actually love to visit the vineyards if I could! I am now eagerly awaiting the next in the series to see what happens next! 😊 I give ‘The House at Greenacres’ 4*/5*. Please go and read this book you won’t regret it.
Thank you to Canelo and Darcie for an advanced copy of this book via Netgalley.
Heartwarming and sweet story. The slow burn s cond chance at romance tale is lovely. You are there with the MC just as confused as to why and what, it’s very well done and a lovely end. A lovely story.
Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for a free copy for an honest opinion
The House at Greenacres by Darcie Boleyn is the first book in Penhallow Sands and a lovely romance perfect for an afternoon read.
After the death of her grandfather Holly goes back home after only a year of her leaving. Memories of her love with Rich are still hunting her. However, now she has their son to think of. She decides to tell Rich the truth even though she knows that everything between them is over.
Heartwarming and uplifting story about love lost and found again.
Lovely characters and cozy atmosphere add to the charm of this story as we learn about what is looks like to run a vineyard.
Even if the end was quite predictable it is still a charming love story with many romantic moments.
Perfect read for romance lovers.
The House at Greenacres is an absolutely outstanding magical novel by Darcie Boleyn which I thoroughly enjoyed – the cover is beautiful! As you read the book, you can imagine the characters in real life living in the lovely house and vineyard featured on the front cover.
Cornwall was brought to life in this very emotional story which is based in the beautiful setting of Penhallow Sands and centres on the lives of the wonderful characters, Holly, Luke and Rich, their families, their friends and Holly’s families wonderful vineyard - Greenacres. Throughout the book we are faced with the themes of grief, forgiveness, love, changing relationships, the importance of family and their vital loving support, hopes and dreams. You have to move forward in life, living for today and following your heart and I am so pleased that is exactly what Holly and Rich along with Luke did – a wonderful end to the book.
Such a lovely warm story which I thoroughly enjoyed. I am very much looking forward to reading Penhallow Sands 2 and I hope it is out very very soon as I would love to find out more about the relationship developing between Holly and Rich (and I hope they move into Plum Tree Cottage!) and also the other characters.
I absolutely loved this story.
I found it extremely well written and totally believable.
Holly returns to Greenacres with her young son after her grandfather dies. She sees Rich who is her baby's father and who knows nothing about his son.
Rich wants to be a good father and wants to win Holly's trust again.
I was sad when this story finished which is very rare for me now days.
This was a very gentle story that was a thoroughly enjoyable read. It was light and whilst there were not the 'super-dramatic' moments that you find in some books, I felt it ambled along nicely. It was like taking a pleasant stroll on a sunny day.
ARC from Netgalley.
Thanks go to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
The House at Greenacres is my first Darcie Boleyn book, and it was delightful. I was first captured by the beautiful cover, and the story inside was just as beautiful. Holly has returned home to attend the funeral of her beloved grandfather, bringing along her infant son. She knows she will see her former boyfriend, who is unaware that he is now a father. What ensues is the story of lost love restored and a family renewed from a patriarch's loss by a baby's arrival. Looking forward to reading more from this author.
3.5 stars!
Meet Holly, back at her family home following the death of her grandfather she returns with her son Luke in tow. Luke is only 3 months old and a bit of a secret following her departure the previous year due to serious heartache.
The problem is Luke is also a secret to the man who caused the heartache, his dad Rich.
I thought the book would be about Holly trying to keep Luke's birth father a secret from Rich but actually she let him know very quickly on her return at her grandfathers funeral and what followed was a genteel story about Rich and Luke's paternal family getting into a way of family life with both Luke and Holly. It quickly became clear that Holly was not the type of character to have hidden Luke away, she had her son at the forefront of everything and wanted him to have a relationship with his whole family if possible and it was lovely to read about her forgiving nature.
Rich had been fighting his own demons when he did something that caused Holly to leave, she had not known she was pregnant, and he obviously regretted his actions and worked hard to gain back Holly's trust.
This story, and ending, was quite predictable from the very start but I actually wouldn't have had it any other way. A lovely read with enjoyable characters - I could definitely see a follow-up book on Holly's friend Fran.
My many thanks to Canelo via NetGalley for providing me with this advanced reading copy in exchange for an honest review.
I love this book,it is a great read,I couldn't put it down it is sad story but also a happy one,it is a must read, you won't regret it
Another wonderful read from the fabulous Darcie Boleyn, and it's great that this is the beginning of what promises to be a marvellous series.
Holly Dryden left her home, the family business at Greenacres, almost a year ago with a broken heart. When circumstances bring her back she's not alone, bringing along her son, 3 month old Luke. In no time at all she comes across the reason she left .. ex-partner Rich who is Luke's father - although he doesn't know it yet. Will Holly stay at home, or will she and her baby son leave again?
There's something really comforting about a tale of someone returning to the family home; this is a beautifully created story with lots happening! As well as the relationship between Holly and Rich, there is the family business to consider as well as the other family members, Rich's parents and Holly's friend Fran. Plus, of course - and no story from this author would be complete without them - the most wonderful rescue dogs! I already feel myself immersed in the wonderful location and look forward to learning so much more about everything connected to Greenacres. I'm delighted the author has resisted the temptation to educate our palates on the different wines which the vineyard produces, and has stuck to the emotions of the story. This is a fascinating tale, and it has room to grow. The cover deserves a mention too - it's just perfect for what the pages contain! Overall, this is a luscious read and my mouth is already watering for the next in series! Most definitely a super 5* read!
My thanks to publisher Canelo for my copy via NetGalley. As always, the opinions stated here are entirely my own honest view.

I received a copy of the book in advance via NetGalley in return for an honest review as part of my blog.
The House at Greenacres is a captivating and enchanting story of overcoming heartache, forgiveness and reconciliation. It is ultimately a love story, but there are other aspects as well including the rebuilding of a failing business.
Greenacres is a vineyard owned by Holly’s late grandfather. He has run it successfully but hasn’t wanted to make any modern adjustments. His passing leaves the business vulnerable, and Holly returns to Greenacres for his funeral after a small period in exile to help the business flourish and to face her past. I found myself coming up with ideas that would save the business, and it made me laugh that all the plans I thought of were executed in the book!
The book begins in quite a sombre style, and you are learning of the grandfather’s passing but also the reasons that made Holly flee the only home that she had ever known and loved.
As Holly and the family are healing, she also has the added strain of coming to terms with what has happened to her and rebuilding bridges she thought were burnt forever. She does this very tentatively and slowly as she is scared of being hurt all over again and she’s not sure the risk is worth it. Should she cut her losses and leave Greenacres or stay and live the life she desires?
The pace of the book is quite slow, but it is building up to the most significant decision Holly has had to make. She needs to know that she can be happy but also protect her newborn son, Luke.
This is the perfect story if you want a wonderful feel-good read. It is uplifting, gripping and charming. You are rooting for the character’s happiness, and the ending will leave you smiling (there are even some laugh-out-loud moments throughout as well).
A solid four-star read, and at only 255 pages it is a fast-paced story that will leave you with a warm fuzzy glow!
Having read a coupleof Darcie books in the past, I was pretty confident that I'd enjoy this one as much as her other ones and I wasn't wrong.
This had been a lovely pleasant read, thoroughly enjoyable story from start to finish.
I adored getting to know all of the characters especially Holly and Rich, and had quite a soft spoy for baby Luke. As for the setting of the story, being Greenacres, well it sounded truly picturesque and idyllic and I felt like I was there for real.
There was plenty going on in the story, lots of heartfelt moments, some emotional scenes, as well as some laugh out loud moments. It made for a very enjoyable read.
I have to say that the cover for this book is absolutely beautiful.
What an emotional and heartwarming novel by the lovely Darcie Boleyn. As soon as I saw this cover I knew that I had to read it. I love the bright pink blossoms across the top of the cover and my favourite tulips along the bottom! As well as this, we have a cute little house right next to the sea and it just looks so pretty and draws you in.
The story follows main character Holly, after fleeing home due to heartache, she decides now is the time to come home due to recently losing her beloved Grandpa. After seeing Rich at the wake, she decides now is the best time to tell him he is the father to their son, Luke who is just over 3 months old. At first he isn't sure how to act, (I can imagine it's quite a shock being told you're a father without having any inkling!) and he tells Holly he needs time to think.
I would completely recommend you giving this novel a read, it's so heartwarming and beautifully written that you'll struggle to put it down - even for 5 minutes! It's a lovely story about love, loss and friendship. I am so excited to learn that this is the first in a new series! And I cannot wait to read more about this lovely Cornwall location. The setting sounded so idyllic and I can't wait to read about other characters in the story.
I felt like all of the characters felt like family. I really related to all of them and I think this is what made the story go by so quick! They all seemed so lovely and there was a wonderful sense of community between them all. It sounded like an ideal place to live and had me longing to visit Cornwall! I also loved the fact that Holly's family had their own vineyard! It was so interesting to read about. Give this romantic and sweet story a read, you won't regret it! Thank you to the publisher for a chance to read this novel, which I have reviewed honestly.

After the death of her grandfather, Holly Morton goes back home. It’s not an easy step, because a lot of memories connect her to the place; family moments, but also Rich, the man, who broke her heart.
Something has changed though, she is a mum now and decides to tell Rich that he is a father.
This story is a wonderful tale about love, family, relationships, and parenting, all included in a wonderful setting and atmosphere.
The storyline is full of ups and downs, magical moments and charm. It’s a bit predictable, but Darcie Boleyn’s writing totally makes up for it. I couldn’t stop reading!!!
Lovely second chance romance! Holly and Rich were a couple until......She had to leave, just had to leave Penhallow Shallows. She didn't know she was pregnant with Luke. Sadly, her grandfather has just died and she fears the funeral for another reason. She never told Rich about Luke but she screws up her courage and does. How these two make their way back to each other is nicely handled. Set in Cornwall (one of my favorite spots!), this has good characters you will root for. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. Perfect for when you need something happy.
