Description
Grayson Daly and I aren’t just rivals. We’re enemies. Born minutes apart on the same day in the same hospital, our parents thought this meant we were somehow destined to be together. We knew were we just destined to beat each other. Competition boiled over until junior year, when the cold war turned into an unexpected peace offering. Maybe my hormones allowed me to notice his broad shoulders, stormy gray-blue eyes, and soccer star’s chiseled frame. But after I fell for him…he stomped all over my heart. Ten years later, I’m at the top of the realty game in Bayshore and Grayson is just a distant memory. Until he shows up from NYC, his ego bigger than a skyscraper, and asks me to sell the house he recently inherited. It’s easy to say no. Even though I want to climb him like the jungle gyms we used to dangle from in strong arm battles. But I forgot that Gray doesn’t take no for an answer. And that he isn’t content unless he’s defeating me. He butts into my evenings on the boat. Ropes me into water skiing battles. Even shows up at the bar and creates a scene when I’m scouting a date to the upcoming Bicentennial Ball. It’s almost like he’s gunning to win me. But if he wins, that means I lose. And I’m not ready to cede victory just yet. MAKE ME LOSE is a steamy, laugh-out-loud small-town romance! Start getting to know the Daly brothers today and one-click the first book of this rom-com series!

Make Me Lose is the first book in Ember Leigh’s Bayshore series and has a whole lot of everything! There’s rivalry, angst, contempt, sassy and sarcastic banter and some super-HOT, HOT, HOT sex! The story is basically about frenemies; yep, Grayson and Hazel have been battling it out in one way or another since forever and there’s no sign of a truce in the near future. If memories can serve as a reminder, this couple have never forgotten their exuberant competitiveness, or that they were always opponents in years gone by.
This is undeniably an exciting, fun and amusing story with plenty going on and wonderful world building to set the stage for more in the series. I enjoyed the character portrayals and found myself perched on the edge of my seat, waiting to see where the author would ultimately take this perplexing couple. Ms Leigh has definitely penned another addictive first in a series that will certainly keep me coming back for more. I’m eager to see which brother gets their story next!
I really loved this book! Grayson and Hazel were perfect. I can’t wait to read the next books in the series! Thank you to netgalley for the arc!
This is a new series by an author I had not read in a while. It was mostly enjoyable tough I had a tough time connecting with the male lead, Grayson.
It is a small town romance with a 2nd chance at love between two rivals who grewup together. My main issue with Grayson is that he hates the small town he grew up in. He lives in NY but he kinda hates it too and his job but he also can't wait to leave the small town he grew up in,
The story begins as he is home for his grandmas funeral and she left him a house, he seeks out Hazel, his rival in high school and she refuses to help him, over something that happened in high school. My first issue is whathappened around prom seemed to really bug Hazel and its not confronted. Instead she and he just compete with each other a lot.
I really liked Hazel and alot of the supporting characters but I had a hard time liking the guy who kinda seemed miserable all around. That said it was an enjoyable story and I liked the writing.
Thank you netgalley for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I thought this was a funny, hot romance. Hazel and Grayson are childhood enemies that compete to get over the other one. Watching their antics had me laughing. The sexual chemistry between them is combustible and they don't allow the rivalry to get in the way of their need for each other. It was entertaining watching them forgive the past and embrace their future in their small town.
I really liked this book! This is an enemies to lovers romance.
Grayson and Hazel were born on the same day which naturally made them competitive in their early years. They became romantic in high school but a falling out ended their relationship and ten years later, Grayson comes back from New York to attend his grandmother's funeral and sell her house. Hazel is the town's only realtor and a successful one at that. Their time apart hasn't diminished their antagonism but their attraction to each other is stronger. As they rekindle their romance Grey and Hazel realize that they still love each other, but Hazel's love for their home town and her successful career become obstacles.
This book is funny and sexy and it was refreshing to read about a heroine who is successful and not afraid of making her career a priority.
I loved this book! I couldn't believe that it was Ember's books, not that I do not like her books but I didn't know that she wrote in this genre- romantic comedy and let me tell you that this is definitely her niche. I loved Grayson and Hazel together. This was an enemies to lovers book, who really were two people that have been in love for years however due to some interference and misunderstanding broke up years ago and then went back to their enemies rivalry. Grayson comes back to town to sell his grandmothers house and needs Hazels help since she is the best in the business in their hometown. Hazel could not believe that Grayson is asking for her help and that he is more gorgeous than before but she is going to make him want her and then reject him. But the minute these two spending time together they are combustible and realize that they have loved each other for so long, they are each other soulmates, the problem they lives thousands of miles away and how will they make a relationship work? I can't wait for the next Daly brothers!!!Enjoy!
I loved this book. It kept me engaged from page one to the end. It was sexy, funny, and full of drama. The main characters Gray and Hazel are strong likable characters. This is the second book in this series and can't wait to read the next one. This book can be read as a stand alone. I would recommend this book.
I received an advance copy from NetGalley for my honest review.
Loved this new series, Grayson and Hazel were perfect with the back and forth competition, can't wait for the next one in the series.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the advance read, I am voluntarily providing my honest review.
Make Me Lose follows the enemies to lovers trope where Grayson Daly and Hazel had an auspicious beginning to their competitive relationship as they were born on the same day in the same hospital and ever since compete like they were born to do it.
I liked the very real feelings that Gray felt towards his family— his complete adoration of his mother and the way that he and his four brothers vied and competed for her devotion, the drive he realizes he gets from his father but also doesn’t enjoy the fact that he shares his mannerisms and the competitive meanness he also gets from him, and his nuanced feelings towards all of his brothers, but especially his oldest brother Dom, as they were often pitted against each other throughout their adolescence and adulthood (because of their tough love father).
There were moments that I enjoyed the Gray and Hazel pairing— the squabbling was entertaining, the arguments felt real, and oftentimes I was annoyed with Hazel’s petty, unbecoming fighting style. Gray definitely had moments of self-consciousness that he took out on Hazel, and I felt that while it was a realistic trait that they shared, they could have benefited deeply from therapy, as their issues with themselves and each other need more than a band-aid repair to fix the bone deep level miscommunication that they share.
Of course there was a miscommunication during their high school romance that caused the two to have a ten year stretch in which they don’t speak to each other. Of course they wind up barely talking about this and move on with their relationship in the present day even though throughout the entire book they both lamented over their hurt feelings inwardly towards each other— the book could have done without this overdone trope, as it already had the enemies to lovers plot line which was enough fun for a reader to enjoy on it’s own.
(Also, the way that Gray went from an investment banker to owning a renovation company was highly irregular and completely unrealistic as he had no prior experience to working with his hands in construction! This was very obviously book magic in order to get the two characters to their happily-ever-after and so unrealistic that I would have preferred they do the work in their relationship to actually get to the same page instead of this claptrap, sepia-toned nonsense!)
I received an ARC from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
The story of Grayson and Hazel. A second chance romance, but they have always been rivals too.
Now Grayson is back in town and wants Hazel to help sell the house he inherited. She doesn't want to help and as always they challenge each other. When he goes back to his life in the city, he wants her to follow him. Will she give up what she has worked so hard for?
A fun and entertaining read. Looking forward to more from this author.
Ob.sess.ed with this book. It was soooooo good. I'm a sucker for a enemies to lovers story. Add small town charm. Some kooky secondary characters. A pinch of foreshadowing for forthcoming books in the series and you've got me. I'm here for it.
Hazel and Gray, have been rivals since birth. They were born on the same day, super competitive all through high school. After they hooked up then torn apart by outside forces they went their separate ways. Hazel made a name for herself in their hometown as the premiere real estate agent. Gray couldn't get away from his overbearing father and moved to the city to work himself to death, all in the name of being better than his brother.
When Gray returns home and inherits his grandmother's house, he and Hazel are forced to spend time together and find out that the rivalry and competitiveness explodes into passion in the bedroom.
But Gray won't stay and Hazel won't leave.
An amazing story. Loved it and I really hope there's more with Gray's brothers. Like the Romeo and Juliet (Conner & Kinsley) couple. OH! and Weston, the hippie younger brother. I hope he gets a book.
Cute
This is my first book by Ember Leigh.
What I liked:
The writing style
The characters
Rom-com
Part of a series: Bayshore
Standalone
HEA
Epilogue
I look forward to reading more from this author and the next book in this series.
This is the first book in the Bayshore series, and the story of Grayson, and Hazel, born on the same day, they have been racing for the finish line, always trying to beat the other, since. When competition, takes a back seat to love, Grayson breaks Hazel's young heart. Now it's ten years later, and Grayson, and Hazel haven't seen each other, but when he approaches her for help selling his house, the sparks fly, and old feelings return. This was a steamy read, the characters had great chemistry, this book was emotional, passionate, dramatic, and entertaining.
A big thank you to NetGalley and Backlit PR for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book What a fun book. A love/hate relationship with lots of chemistry. Hazel and Grayson are sooo competition e. Crazy antics but fun to read. Truly enjoyable read. I think most romance readers would enjoy. 3.5 stars
Born minutes apart on the same day, in the same town, Hazel and Grayson have been competing since birth. They even dated for a while in high school. It ended badly, and they both headed off to college. Years later they are thrown back together in the same sleepy little town. What will Hazel make Gray lose this time? His temper, his sanity, or maybe his heart?
Ember Leigh is a pro when it comes to writing characters that a reader can fall in love with. More please!
Thanks to #Netgalley and the publisher and author of #MakeMeLose for the opportunity to read this advanced reading copy in return for an honest review.
Competition you haven’t seen anything until you meet Grayson and Hazel. Make Me Lose is the first in the Bayshore series and Gray and Hazel, born on the same day they have been rivals trying to out do each other since they were children but is it something more? A wonderful read with great characters and an exciting storyline. Do yourself a favor and pick this one up
Grayson Daly is HOT! I absolutely loved Make Me Lose. I loved Hazel, I loved their rivalry, I loved the realness of the relationship. There honestly isn't anything I didn't love about this book. I'm a sucker for a good enemies to lovers book and Make Me Lose fit the bill.
I really enjoyed seeing Hazel stand her ground and make Gray work for it. And I loved those small moments of vulnerability that Grayson displayed that were so unlike him that they really made your heart melt.
I devoured this book in one day and highly recommend it to anyone who loves Enemies to Lovers. It is un-put-down-able
Thanks to the publisher for an arc to read and give my honest opinion.
Loved it! I’m so used to this authors MMA series that this was a pleasant surprise! I’m so happy that she has branched in this direction and the writing as usual was fabulous.
Hazel and Gray... two obscure colors but when mixed ... sparks fly. These two have a sordid history, since birth but fate has thrown them together again and it’s up to them to figure out if they truly are kismet.
What did I like? Two people with that much passion are just combustible or is it. compatible? Combatable? Anyways they had it in spades and once they worked through it, it was a true romance!
Would I buy this book? Yes! Definitely referable. Great book and great romance!
Thoughts for the author! Love this series! Want and need more!
Oh. My. Word. Make Me Lose was an absolute blast! I seriously loved every second of it. A hilarious romantic comedy with colourful characters, a witty banter, and sparking wit. If you are a fan of enemies to lovers stories that make you laugh one minute and swoon the next, you’ll not go wrong with Make Me Lose by Ember Leigh. Well done Ember Leigh!! Very well done!! Can’t wait for the next book book by her!! Happy reading!!
Make Me Lose was a pretty formulaic rom-com book. It wasn't great, and it wasn't awful. The characters are likable enough. I loved the setting -- the quaint community of Bayshore is lovely.
Grayson and Hazel are so determined to be wrong for one another that they are right for each other -- from the VERY beginning. It was fun to watch their bicker/banter. I did like that Hazel did not immediately plan to sacrifice her career for their relationship to be successful.
Romance was steam enough for sure. I just never felt 100 percent invested in either of the leads. I would probably read another book in the series to see if it improves.
Did you get a good look at the cover? It certainly drew my eye. And since the blurb made me snicker, I decided I really wanted to read this one. And it was certainly a treat, although sometimes a bit over the top. Hazel and Grayson were born on the same day in Bayshore. As small town locals, they were destined to be together. But Hazel and Grayson planned to defy all odds: by getting competitive. All through high school they riled each other up to do crazy dares, up until Gray stood up Hazel for their prom. Ever since Hazel and Grayson have been each others nemesis. And while Grayson became a hotshot financial investor in New York, Hazel became the town sweetheart by setting up her own local realtor company in her hometown. So now Grayson is back because he has inherited his grandmother's house and he needs to sell it. But when he asks Hazel to sell his house she turns him down flat.
So Grayson resorts to the only thing to persuade Hazel into selling his house by tricking her into a contest. Hazel can't believe the biggest jerk is back in town. And that he tricked her into selling his grandmother's house. As if nothing has changed ,they start having contests all over again. But with their current chemistry, maybe losing isn't so bad after all.... But although the sparks are flying, Grayson still wants to go back to New York after the sale. And Hazel doesn't want to leave their hometown. So at a cross roads, which path will both of them take? And will they turn it into a contest? Find out for yourself in this sparkly , funny and competitive story. Four out of five stars from me and a special thank you to Netgalley for providing the arc.
It was a cute story. It started strong and ended strong but dragged a bit in the middle. Hazel was fun. loved some her scenes at the beginning and her pretend typing! Grayson seemed to be a bit of an ass but that turned around quickly. Both characters seemed willing to give and take which is nice (sometimes it seems like on the female characters have to give something up) and I loved the brothers!
If you like the enemy to lovers trope then this is a book for you. I personally love reading them going from enemies to lovers. This was a fun and steamy read and I most definitely recommend. Thanks NetGalley.
Great book. Amazing author! I was sucked in from the first page!!I love the Daly brothers and look forward to more more more !!!!!
Make Me Lose is the first book in the Bayshore series by Ember Leigh. The novel follows the mostly antagonistic interactions between the two main characters, Hazel and Grayson in this enemies-to-lovers story. As readers sit on the sidelines, Hazel and Grayson battle it out in every possible way. Ember Leigh’s writing style and character development have readers invested in the Hazel and Grayson’s relationship and their greatest competition of all—the battle for their HEA.
Grayson and Hazel have been pitted against each other in competition since he was born ten minutes before her in the same hospital on the same day. Other than a brief period in high school where they secretly dated, they’ve been rivals ever since. So when Gray shows up after ten years (looking hotter than ever) and asks successful realtor Hazel to sell his grandmother’s house, she can’t decide whether to gloat or kiss him. Maybe both?
These two had great chemistry, and their journey from enemies to lovers felt very real, especially as these two alphas struggled to figure out how to compromise. Cute start to a new series.
Loved this story, Grayson and Hazel were hilarious, though at times they did leave me misty eyed. Totally a one sitting read.
Grayson Daly is returning to Bayshore to sell his grandmother’s house. He has not been home in ten years and though his family is looking forward to seeing him he is not looking forward to going home. It begins before he enters town when he sees a build board of Hazel and the saying and picture of her stays with him for the rest of the day. That is until he is asked by his mother to go to her office and ask her to sell or list the house. The thing about the two of them is that they were born on the same day minutes apart, and had a completion between one another up until they began dating in high school. Then he broke up with before the senior prom and went with someone else and she has been back to the completion. Except for the ten years have been good for Hazel her business has taken off she has her friends and life is good. When Grayson walks into her office that day he is shocked by the beauty of the pin-up girl standing there and when she turns around and realizes that it is Hazel he knows that he is doomed. On top of everything else she said to list the house, he leaves more upset than he was before. He then must deal with Hazel in a bar situation, on the lake water skiing and in a bathing suit showing off her curves. Anyway, you get the point. This is a very good book, I really liked Hazel's character and at times Grayson was a jerk, but that was part of the story. Overall a good book.
Really cute! Enjoyed this one a lot. Not quite as fluffy as I anticipated but really good. I’ll be reading from this author for sure.
Good read book I will definitely be recommending this book brilliant read and written perfectly with a fantastic storyline and characters will look forward to reading more from this author
This second chance for Grayson and Hazel was so enjoyable book to read. How they pick on eachother, how they come from hate to love, how their passion explodes. Both are very enjoyable characters easy to love. Their love story is unique and it is very enjoyable to see their HEA, I really enjoyed reading every page of the book.
I volunteered to review an ARC of this book for NetGalley
I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. Thank you NetGalley..
This was my first book by this author.
Grayson and Hazel are serious chemistry / sex goals. What a HOT book! The book has more than just great sex scenes though.. The banter is great. The storyline is great.. and i couldn't put it down!
Thank u NetGalley for the digital ARC . I let this book sit on the digital shelf for a few months . It started a little slow for me but once i got into it – i was done in a few hours. What a cute love story! Two arch rivals who fall in love after years of trying to outdo each other… they were meant for each other from the start! Kudos to the author and on to book two!
I enjoyed the characters in this book. But, the reason for their lovers to enemies trope back in high school was really stupid and could have easily been avoided, but if I disregard this and think of it more as just a regular "rekindled flame" kind of book, then I really enjoyed it.
Grayson and Hazel had a rivalry that wasn’t for the faint of heart. Each time they got together they would accept a challenge and take it to the next level. Ten years have passed since they broke up but the level of animosity still exists. Will Hazel help him sell his grandmother’s home or will she hold on to the feelings that continue to torment her? All the passion they feel with their on going feud can definitely be put to better use and it’s only a matter of time when one of them succumbs.
