A quick compilation of comics that will make you simultaneously laugh and say awww (sometimes in the heartwarming way and sometimes in the terrible existential crisis way).
Sorry I Ruined Your Childhood is a collection of short comics. It was a quick and enjoyable read. I didn't like all, but most were funny and entertaining.
I loved it. Simple and sarcastic. It has simple outlay. Three times per cartoon. And it covers common topics. It depicts things we see all around us. Mario, hulk, movie, Harry Potter and other stuff that kids and teens get infatuated with.
It makes you laugh and will be more influential if you like dark themes.
I will like to read other works by the author ( cartoonist).
Don't go by the cover, inside flaps are very colourful and entertaining.
It is a small read and can be finished in time in which you read introduction part of any other common books.
Thanks netgalley and publisher for review copy.
Dark humor and all the stuff kids in middle school talked about - this comic is exactly what it says on the tin. I found a few chuckle-worthy gems in these pages, but there were some that fell flat for me as well.
Overall, if you have a dark sense of humor and enjoy laughing at ironic pain on a comic book page I would pick this up.
I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley.
Andrews McMeel has made a pretty successful business publishing the best gag comics the internet has to offer, giving us the likes of The Oatmeal and Sarah Andersen, along with some of the crummiest like Soppy and Man, I Hate Cursive. Fortunately, Ben Zaehringer’s Sorry I Ruined Your Childhood from berkeleymews.com is among their better titles.
The format is mostly the classic three panel strip and, while your mileage may vary given that everyone’s comedic tastes are different, I thought the majority of them were genuinely funny and really imaginative. The content largely references childhood movies and shows - anything somewhat nostalgic for adult readers today - but some of the best gags were separate from those subjects.
Some of the funniest for me: a clown getting upset that his partner’s laughing while they’re having sex; God ripping out one of Adam’s ribs and drawing a face onto it with a pen; Santa eating weed cookies, forgetting to deliver presents and getting Taco Bell instead.
Real life TMNT, Prince Charming looking through an app called Cinder, the waterbed shark, the terrible father (screaming when his kid tells him the floor is lava and making them cry; telling his son he owes him forty bucks after smoking his weed), the Independence Day ship turning out to be a giant alien Roomba. It goes on like this - there are too many bangers for me to list off.
As expected, not all the gags were that good. The Superman parodies weren’t that funny, nor was the Sesame Street stuff and I’m pretty sure I’ve seen the mummy sat on the toilet using his bandages for toilet paper elsewhere. But there’s so many great, clever jokes here to make it worth checking out, particularly if you’re in need of a laugh or ten. Fans of Nicholas Gurewitch’s Perry Bible Fellowship will really like this.
Short book filled with cute, witty comics. I didn't like all of them, but most of them were pretty dang adorable and/or funny!
I haven't heard of Berkeley Mews until I had the chance to read this compilation, and from the looks of it I have definitely been missing out. The simple art and a humor style that ranges from the sharply dark to the outright bizarre come together nicely in a wonderfully fun combination.
I found it mildly entertaining. I enjoyed the darker sense of humour. It made a nice change to what I usually come across. I got through the book quickly.
Some of the jokes were a little repetitive but it covered a lot of topics.
This book had me cracking up. Was a fun and easy read that will make you laugh out loud. If you love memes this is a good book for you.
This had a lot of really cute and funny comics, I want to read more things like this, time to go raid the comics section
This is a short book of dark, witty comics. It is mostly three frames each comic. I like the simple art and how much the illustrations and a few words portray. This is an amusing collection!
Review to come to my blog/Goodreads in September.
I received this book from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.
When I spotted this book on here I was interested, but it wasn't until I went on Twitter to find the artist that I saw this comic collection would be perfect for me. I read a few comics on twitter, laughed aloud, showed them to my hubbie who also laughed aloud. And then I requested the book on here.
And then two days ago I started reading this collection and OH BOY, I had so much fun reading it. The comics in there are exactly my (and also my husbands) humour. Silly, over the top, at times tiptoeing the edge of what is correct and incorrect (if that makes sense). Eventually I started whatsapping my hubbie to send him comics as I wanted to share them with him and couldn't wait until we were both home again. We both had a lot of laughs while reading it, while I didn't hear him laugh of course, he did send me plenty of emojis.
There is a wide variety of topics, there are comics featuring God, but also pop culture, Snow White pops by as well, Medusa (poor poor Medusa), people get stranded on islands, Mario is here, and so much more.
The style of the art fits perfectly with the comics.
All in all, highly recommended if you are looking for something silly and fun!
If you are the kind of person who gets lost on the internet looking at memes, this is the comic for you. This is a collection of short dark humor memes touching on topics of life and childhood nostalgia.
Personally, I loved this comic. I zoomed though it and each page got better than the last. They were all quick witted jokes that take normal circumstances or stories and flips them on their head in such an interesting manner that makes you never want I look away.
The art and text is simple and to the point, yet appealing to look at. I’m in awe of how little went into some of the designs that hit the biggest punchlines.
Needless to say, I really enjoyed this collection. Immediately after finishing I followed the author on social media in hopes of finding more hilarious content. If you like witty jokes and animations that are beyond relatable I highly recommend giving this book a read and sharing your favorite pages with a friend!
This collection reminded me of being a kid and getting my hands on my parent's Far Side book. Sorry I Ruined Your Childhood is jokes (sometimes dad jokes) in picture form. They're quick, witty, and frequently dark. Each page could stand alone, which is what makes this book so meme-able. It's a fast read and is at it's best when the comics can be shared with others who get the humor.
I really enjoyed this witty, up to date series of short comics. This was smart and funny and I laughed out loud a number of times while I was reading it.
Very cute and fast little comics. Some will leave you laughing with how funny they are, and some will leave you smiling cause of how cute it is. I wish there was more, it was great, all the illustrations were interesting with just enough details to say whats going on without over crowding it.
Each comic strip is one page long. So when you turn each page you will be wondering what will be in this new comic strip.
I received a free copy of this e comic book free and am giving it an honest review, of my thoughts.
This collection of comics is pretty great if you love dark humour. I found almost every page funny and I chuckled to a lot of the comics. The art style is pretty simple, but I liked it, and one can't really expect any breathtaking artwork from a gag comic. To keep it short - this short book is pretty funny and would make a great gift for somebody with wry/dark humour and common knowledge of pop culture.
An arc was kindly provided to me by the publisher through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
Thanks Netgalley for a free copy of this book!
It's a pretty fun coffee table book that house guests will have a good laugh. There were various art styles throughout the whole book, which I surprisingly don't mind. I related to some of them and had a good chuckle. For some, I was wildly surprise because I haven't considered it as a child, but as a young adult now, it does makes sense. There were a few which I didn't get the reference, if any, but were still quite funny enough. Some, I have no idea what it was trying to say. It's fine, though, because it does cater a lot of the ages in the millennial age range. I'd recommend it if you want a good chuckle, and a conversation starter.
Creative, humorous, and witty. This text unites words and images in a very entertaining way. A truly fun reading experience.
Really really funny! I enjoyed it a lot! Plus it's very short so you can read it in a single setting.
I don't think I was that familiar with these comics before reading this book. I may have seen one or two here and there online, but never really paid much attention. Collections like this can be hit or miss; sometimes it seems like there's just too much all in one place. But I actually found that the selections here are so diverse that I didn't really get bored or feel like I was seeing too much repetition.
Some of these are laugh-out-loud funny. Some will make you think. There are plenty of pop-culture references for Generation X-ers and Millennials (and Xennials) that'll have you taking a few trips down memory lane. Some of the comics are a little disturbing, but the drawing style is usually so simple that even when things get gory, they're not too difficult to look at.
Overall, I quite enjoyed these. The book is a quick read (you could easily finish in one sitting, if you wanted) but it's packed full of amusing stuff.
I've already seen most of them, but they still made me smile, some of them laugh even. It is great webcomic, that format (three-panel strip) is perfect. It's intelligent, entertaining..
A delightful, cynical, laugh-out-loud collection of 3-panel comic strips, that balances an even mix of wickedly dark humor, with genuinely touching moments. The illustrations are endlessly charming and endearing - especially when paired with a dark scenario - and go a long way toward making this book just as enjoyable on the second or third reading. Not every page made me physically laugh, but most did. And they all made me smile.
I received a free advanced copy of this book from Netgalley, in exchange for an honest review.
Received a digital ARC of this book via NetGalley.
Really liked. One page comics. Lots of pop culture references.
The worst part of this book is that it isn't longer. I thought the content was pretty wholesome for the most part, nothing too outrageous. I found most of them to be pretty clever.
While not every joke landed so many of them were laugh out loud funny. This would be a great addition to my library's humor section.
I enjoyed these short comics and found them somewhat funny. I would definitely be interested in similar collections and will check out more of this writer's work.
I very much believe that my assessment or impression from this book is clouded/influenced by two things. I enjoy this dark or even cruel humour, some people may find it horrible or even disgusting, and I totally respect that.
Furthermore, I was in a bit of a down mood, did not want to go to sleep, I did not enjoy the movie my family was watching, I did not feel like reading, so I went to NetGalley to see if I could find some comics or something similar to this.
This caught my attention because the colour was the same as my mood, down and the picture is pretty much me. So, it completely fitted me at the moment.
Apparently, this comics is also published online, but I never saw it before.
I cannot say that I laughed aloud at any of this, but most of the time I had a bit of a smirk. Sometimes I was a bit missing the point, and when I finally found it, it was usually hilarious.
My favourites were the "space" Roomba, ghost bedbugs, snails doing drugs and burying at sea.
But as I said, this book is definitely not for everybody.
Nintinder... I actually laughed out loud at many of these comics. The mister potato head one was hilarious.
These were all borderline dumb and absolutely belly laughing good. This is the type of humour I enjoy the most.
The illustrate were really simple but definitely didn’t take away from the comics themselves.
I've seen quite a few of these comics in the course of my internet travels, and they are no less funny than they were the first time. While I didn't recognize every single reference, the sense of humor so perfectly matches my own that in most cases I still felt like I was in on the joke. And, of course, the art itself is delightfully playful.
I absolutely loved these comics!! This book was full of references from the 80's and 90's; my childhood. They were simple, hilarious and sometimes even made you think twice.

These were a mixture of some laugh out loud funny and other's charming and sweet and still other's that were not either. That may have been a generational thing more than the actual comic value of each though. I could definitely see that many were "to be appreciated" by the younger generations who use all versions of social media fluidly. Overall, this was a pleasure to go through. My son sends me a daily (and random) clip of either football in the south or a clip of a comic strip that is a good laugh between us. This reminded me of that, which definitely makes me smile. Thank you for that!

Disclaimer: I received this through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This was so cute, and so funny. There were some unique things in here that did actually make me laugh, which I wasn't expecting. (Well my version of "laughing" at books which tends to involve either breathing out fast through my nose or snorting slightly).
I'd definitely recommend people picking this up to check out - it's fun, quick, surprisingly light.
content warnings: death, anxiety religion (so many bible jokes, they were amazing), sad robots, medusa jokes
[3.5 Stars]
I got some good chuckles out of going through this. Silly, witty, and a little crude. This is something that makes a great coffee table book or something to give a friend who needs some cheering up. Many of the comics are ones already featured and viral on the internet but were still as humorous as ever.
This isn't something I am going to be purchasing for my library only because (and I've noticed this with many webcomics that go to hard print) it's internet availability will most likely take away from circulations.
Otherwise a funny and entertaining book!
I really enjoyed this book of quick funny little comics that I want to share with everyone I know. This would make a great coffee table book that people can just flip through. Each page had a different comic that always had a twist ending.
This was an quick and funny comic to read. I liked the artstyle and i laughed most of the times. It was cute and funny.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. Thank you NetGalley!
I seriously loved this book! perfect mix of fun, funny, and cute.
"Sorry I Ruined Your Childhood" by Ben Zaehringer was a hilarious comic book full of some ridiculously funny, nonsensical ideas that come out of thinking about something just a moment longer than you would normally. Each page is laugh out loud funny, beautifully illustrated and as a whole you can read the whole thing or just randomly flip through it.
I received this eBook free of charge from Andrews McMeel Publishing via NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review. I did not receive any fiscal compensation from either company for this review and the opinions expressed herein are entirely my own.
Just a fantastic collection of comics. The thing I like the most about Zaehringer's work is that it always has these great twists that you don't see coming. It makes the comics fun and I know there's going to be something interesting happening all the time. The comics were also very diverse, and I found they were almost always great.
Whether or not you get the book, it's worth checking out the comics.
*I received an ARC via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Thanks for the free comic.*
These one page, often only three panel comic strips are hilarious. I had seen some of them on social media before, but the collection was the best of. Some are really dark, others really wholesome. There's Sesame Street, Harry Potter, Star Wars, God / Religious Issues, and much more in it.
If you like short comic strips, pick this one up!

I really really enjoyed this. I wasn’t sure what to expect since I haven’t read any of his comics before, but this had me laughing out loud when I was trying to go to sleep. This was my childhood, so I actually understood all of the references. They were funny, witty, and well thought out. I’d often flip back to a random page and I’d notice something else which made it even more funny.
Loved it. Well done.
Super happy I stumbled upon this on NetGalley. A few were familiar from scrolling aimlessly on FB so I'm glad to know the artist so I can continue to follow them.
This is a deliciously dark set of little comics. A few felt like they were incomplete panels, but most were good little stand alones.
*Digital review copy provided by NetGalley and the publisher.
Great mixture of various types of humor: both for the older generations and the younger generations..
Provided some laugh out loud giggles along the way.
Thanks for the ARC NetGalley and NG & Andrews McMeel Publishing.
Some quick read, humorous web comics, often pop culture related. Zaehringer has a dark sense of humor which I appreciate.
This is an extremely fun, dark, quirky, quick read filled with mostly 3-panel comic strips.
Many of them were definitely laugh-out-loud funny.
I also found a bunch of them very relatable with my friends and I showed them to my friends telling them I found each of us in this book and we all had a great laugh about it! My friends loved the comics I showed them too! :)
This was such a fun collection of comics. I couldn't stop laughing at many of them. Each comic had a fun twist which is impressive since the comics were so short.
One of the better collections of web comics I've read. Clever and funny. Even standard observations are done in a unique way. Many observations are pretty off the way.
Sorry I Ruined Your Childhood is a collection of comic strips from the one and only Ben Zaehringer. His humor is slightly dark but exceedingly witty and dry. And that is why I love his comics so much.
To be clear; this isn’t a comic collection full of bright and bubbly artwork and light-hearted jokes. Ben Zaehringer isn’t afraid to get dark – the title of this series should probably give that away. But for those that lean towards the cynical side, or who enjoy a dry sense of humor, this collection is perfect for you.
This collection was a chuckle-worthy read, through and through. Here so many elements from our childhoods have been pulled into comic format, and slightly altered. So as to ‘ruin our childhood.’ The humor is sometimes a little bit warped, but in the way, you might expect from this collection (again, look at the title!).
This was a fun and memorable read for me. And it was one I highly enjoyed. I’m going to have to remember to keep an eye out for more of Ben Zaehringer’s works, because he gets me.
With a strong shot of nostalgia mixed with a very contemporary feel, Ben Zaehringer probably won't ruin your childhood (and your adulthood), but he'll make you laugh about it. His cartoons in Sorry I Ruined Your Childhood hit the sweet spot with me generationally and with his not-crude-but-sometimes-bizarre-and-irreverant tone. His pop culture references range from "Sesame Street" and Disney movies to The Shining, Ghostbusters, and Alien.
It's not just pop culture, though. Zaehringer's sense of humor is a bit dark, maybe a bit obsessive about death, and super punny. I was laughing out loud on almost every page, but when I shared with my wife and son, they weren't as impressed.
It's always fun to find someone whose sense of humor is just as twisted as my own. Zaehringer is that cartoonist for me. Maybe he is for you, too.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the complimentary electronic review copy!
A fun, quick read, something to pick up when you want a chuckle. The comics are mostly hits with some misses mixed in, but I have the feeling the misses will become hits when they catch you in the right mood. These are one-off cartoons, making it an easy book to pick up and flip to any page when you have a moment. Would make a good all-purpose gift.
