Maddie Dragonette is one mean girl. It's mot just adolescent angst siffusing her very nature, it's anger, rage, and hatred. Maddie is a barely suppressed volcano if rage. She's also Narcissistic and not very self-aware of her own limitations. She would have bern successful as a bloodthirsty pirate or a successful CEO. However, Maddie thinks whatever she wants she must have, and in her late grandmother's greenhouse are plants no one's ever heard of....A brilliantly cautionary tale!
Maddie Dragonette is one mean girl. I know it’s not nice to say someone is mean, but in this case..
It's not just normal adolescent behavior most girls her age experience, it's anger, rage, vindictiveness and even hatred. Maddie is narcissistic with no insight into herself. Her mother walks on eggshells around her daughter. Yet Maddie has a talent. She is a master gardener. She inherited a lovely greenhouse from her grandmother and along with that a book that explains the power of the unique plants growing only in her greenhouse. Some of the plants are some lovely and some horribly ugly, Maddie is a girl who thinks whatever she wants she must have, and she uses the power of her evil plants to get what she wants.
This is a tale of evil and revenge, but can the plants be trusted?
This book is mild middle school horror.interesting reading but the ending was too abrupt for my likes.
But it’s a good style for writing a series of “scary” books for our patron requesting books that will chill and thrill their spine.
Are some people just born evil? Maddie Dragonette seems to be one of those people. She doesn't like anyone ,not her mother and no one at school. Not only does she not like them, she dreams of doing harm to them. The only person she seems to like is her grandmother that she has never met. Her grandmother left her a greenhouse full of unusual plants and a book full of things that those plants can do, some helpful things and some evil things. When a girl at school has a necklace that she wants, Maddie just uses one of her plants to poison her a little, just enough to make her sick so that Maddie could take the necklace. But when Maddie sees and advertisement for a play at school, The Demon Child. It is about a girl who gets angry when she doesn't get what she wants. Since Maddie is just like this, she knows that she would be perfect for the lead. So when she doesn't get the lead she makes sure that things start happening to the girl who got the lead, and then her understudy, and the understudy under her. When it comes down to Maddie finally getting the part, Ms. Klein said they will hold more tryouts. This makes Maddie furious!! Will Maddie use her plants to hurt Ms. Klien? How far will she go to get what she wants? Will anyone put two and two together and realize what is happening or will the evil consume Maddie? Read this dark and disturbing book to find out!
If you have kids who love creepy stories, this is the one for them. The whole time I was reading I kept thinking about horror stories like Carrie, but the kids version. Maddie gave me chills throughout the whole book. I'm sure glad I didn't go to school with her. I love Wil Mara's spooky books for kids! They are quick reads and the kids will love them!

I love the Hi-Lo books! It helps ease a new reader or someone who is having trouble with reading.. into reading!!
The main character Maddie Dragonette is just plain mean. Was she born mean? who knows. Her own mother is afraid of her. She's a thief and disrespectful to everyone.
She found a notebook that had belonged to her grandmother. It was a detailed listing of plants and what they could do. Maddie used this knowledge to benefit her. She has a huge greenhouse that is filled with all the nasty plants that would/could be used to make so many different kinds of poisons.
It was just as expected: a twisted tale of discovery. Well done!!
About a mean girl who let her bitterness get the best of her.
This is my first time reading a Twisted Series story, ultimately a good one to begin with.
It shows what rage, jealousy and resentment can do to you when you make them your top priority. How even a tiny glimmer of hope could be snuff out by tremendous amount of hatred if let be.
So, instead of expressing her odd angry feelings toward everyone and everything, Maddie CHOSE to keep things deep down in her darkest heart whilst looking after the very same greenhouse plants that once engulfed her grandmother in that similar desolation.
A quick short story of the results of making decisions in vehemence without considering the consequences they bring. I’d definitely recommend it to children and adults alike (who love reading middle grade stories like me). I’d give it a 3.5 out of 5 though, due to its abrupt conclusion which I personally hoped would continue on in a second book.
A big thank you to Wil Mara, West 44 Books and NetGalley for sending me the ARC of the book. Honestly without their approval I never would have known the existence of this Series.
This story is targeted to middle grade but it was an entertaining read for me too. The title alone is worth a couple of stars! A young girl holds a grudge against the world and has no problem taking her frustrations out on everyone else. Right now, she wants some things from her grandmother's green house, but the "be careful what you ask for" saying applies here. Will Mara has done a great job of bringing the character to life and setting her into a story that does not have a happy ending....
Maddie doesn’t like people who don’t agree with her. Actually she doesn’t like anyone. At lunch, she discovers that her chicken sandwich has a slice of tomato that isn’t perfect. She makes a note to yell at her mother when she gets home from school. Will she do it? Who yells at that mother or much less even think to criticize their mother? Maddie does like one thing besides herself. She likes growing her garden of perfect fruit trees, vegetables and flowers. She also likes her greenhouse of plants that her grandmother grew. She had discovered her grandmother’s notebook that told her about the special things that the plants could do. When her mother finds out that she found the notebook, she insist that Maddie give it to her but Maddie says no. When Maddie sees an audition notice for a Halloween play, she decides she wants the leading role. Why? What will Maddie do when she doesn’t get the part?
Nasty people do live in our world. That is what this story is about. It’s a book that kept me reading as I expected to see Maddie realize that she was wrong in doing the things she does. The story includes themes of friendship and honesty. It’s a great creepy story for kids.
