The Daughter by Michelle Frances is a tense thriller that pulled me in from the very start. A compelling and troubling premise kept me fully engaged and invested in the lives of both female protagonists, and I was soon swept up in the drama of an underdog tale that evoked all the grit of Erin Brokovich.

Becky is a fledgling journalist when she stumbles onto a lead that has the potential to bring an entire industry to its knees if exposed. When the unthinkable happens, it is up to Becky's mother Kate to take up the cause in her daughter's name, regardless of personal peril and sacrifice.

This is a fictitious tale that has been inspired by real world events. Told from the alternating perspectives of Becky and Kate, Ms Frances has crafted a story about the undying love that is shared between a mother and daughter, and the courage of two women who will risk it all to expose corporate wrongdoing. Recommended.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Pan Macmillan for this ARC.

A gripping novel full of mystery and suspense. When a young girl dies tragically, could it be linked to the case she has been working on? Did she get too close to the truth? It is now up to her mom to try to uncover what happened and why.

A novel that was a pleasure to read and that I recommend.
